InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Into The Well ❯ The Hanyou Boy And the Girl Who Loved Him ( Chapter 3 )
Disclaimer: Inuyasha and all characters from the Inuyasha universe belong to Rumiko Takahashi. The only ones I can claim are Takeshi Sato, his parents, and Shin Morimoto. I may not have Inuyasha, but I'm fully happy with Takeshi and Shin, lol.
A/N: I've pretty much rewritten the entire story. I didn't want to do it, but it was progressing way too fast and it took one good critique to point that out to me. I'm glad I restarted, I'm quite proud of how things are going so far! Please don't forget to leave a review and let me know what you think of the revised piece.
Also, I want to think my bestest beta, Nikki. You rock, girl!
On with the show.

Kagome curled into her sleeping bag and watched as the fire in front of her blazed bright. It had been six months since she had fallen into the well and her life hadn't been the same. At first it had just been she and Inuyasha after the shards, but their little 'family' had grown.
First there was little Shippou, the orphaned fox. She felt horrible about what the Thunder Brothers had done to his parents. She understood all too well the devastation of losing a parent, having lost her own father. Soon the little guy seemed to see her as a mother figure. Like any mother, she spoiled him and ignored Inuyasha's complaints.
Not very long after they first encountered Miroku. At times she still wanted to beat his head in for trying to kidnap her, stealing her shards AND her bike, and then trying to grope her bottom repeatedly. All in a twentyfour hour period. Of course Inuyasha didn't want to have him along, like when they found Shippou, but after a few creative "sits" here and there the stubborn hanyou finally relented.
The one person she was happiest about was Sango. They got off on the wrong foot, like they had with their other two companions, but after everyone shared stories they became fast friends. To be frank, Kagome was becoming closer to Sango than she ever was to any of her friends back in the modern era. It was nice to actually have a girl around in her life dominated by men, a couple of little boys, and a grown hanyou that had a tendency to act like a little boy.
With another purpose, they battled to collect all of the jewel shards and defeat Naraku.
-----
"Bye, gramps!" Kagome yelled as she dashed across the shrine's courtyard towards the well house. She looked over her shoulder to see grandpa wave at her before she opened the doors and went inside. Steadying herself for the trip through time, she jumped into the well and waited for the familiar catch.
When her feet touched down on the other side she took hold of the rope ladder and climbed up to find Inuyasha leaning on a tree waiting for her, looking pretty beat up. Immediately she dropped her bag and rushed to him. "What happened?"
With a little more effort than usual he hefted himself up to greet her. "Ran into Sesshoumaru." He smacked away her hands when she tried to take off his top to survey the damage. "Quit it, wench. I'm fine." She broke through his busy hands and touched his shoulder, not surised to hear the hiss escape him.
"Let me see," she commanded, trying to get the top off again.
"No!" Again, he tried to brush away her hands. Then she gave him the look. "Oh, no! Don't say it!" His eyes widened and he tried to step back, almost like he was hoping if he moved far enough back he would be out of range for the word.
"Then quit being such a big baby!" she shot back.
Rather not liking the idea of being restrained he quickly worked the ties of his haori and pulled it off with his undershirt. He would rather deal with her so called helpful medicines any day. He winced at her gasp. "You think that's bad, you should see the other guy," he joked.
Kagome just shook her head and wrestled her first aid kit out of her bag. "He probably looks perfect as usual," she replied dryly, dabbing an alcohol swab on the neat little punctures going across his shoulder.
'Wait, she thinks he looks perfect?' He grit his teeth when the swab touched the open wounds, and the touch of hurt for her words. "One swipe of Tessaiga and he was gone!" He yelped when she dabbed the ointment on. "Ouch! Bitch, that burns!"
"If you can go fight you can take a bit of ointment." She lightly blew on the cuts. With precise hands Kagome quickly finished wrapping up his shoulder. "There, all done."
Inuyasha worked his shoulder a bit, wincing at the pull of the wrappings. "Not too bad. Let's get back to the village." He stood and watched Kagome pack the kit back into her bag and stand up next to him. Within three steps she noticed his limp.
"Inuyasha-"
"No! I'm not taking off my pants!" he yelled, blushing.
Kagome just shrugged and followed the hanyou back to the village that would temporarily be home.
-----
Ever the joyous event, dinner with Kaede was a time to sit together and not worry about all of the harsh realities of the world. Inuyasha leaned against the hut's wall picking his teeth. Kagome and Sango had really outdone themselves this time with the rabbit, but he would never tell them that. He had a reputation as a hardass that he had to live up to!
Out of the corner of his eye he watched Shippou coloring with the wax sticks Kagome brought him. For a runt, he wasn't half bad as an artist. No one knew it, but he actually had a picture of he and Kagome that Shippou drew tucked into his haori, folded around a snapshot that Kagome's mother took of them when she thought he wasn't looking.
He focused his attention on Kagome and Sango. The two were animatedly talking, ever once in a while whispering and giggling. He knew Kikyo never whispered and giggled. She always took her miko duties too seriously. Kagome was just so different, he seemed drawn to her more than he was ever drawn to Kikyo. He loved her. Yes, he had loved her with everything he was. But now that he really thought about it, it was more of an acceptance thing. She was the first human other than his mother that accepted him as a person; she didn't see him as a demon or hanyou, she just saw him as Inuyasha. Yet they were going to use the jewel so he could be human; her wish of course.
Suddenly Kagome flashed in his mind. 'Don't ever change, Inuyasha! I love you just the way you are!'
Maybe Kikyo's wish was selfish. Maybe if she would have used the jewel to rid him of his demon blood Naraku would have killed BOTH of them fifty years ago instead of just Kikyo.
If things went differently he would have never met Kagome.
And he couldn't imagine his life without the bossy, meddlesome, clumsy, noisy little bitch.
A particularly loud giggle pulled Inuyasha from his daydreaming and back to Kaede's hut. 'She's kinda cute when she blushes.'
'She may be a bossy, meddlesome, clumsy, noisy little bitch, but she's MY bitch.'
And he wouldn't have it any other way.
He felt another body slink down next to him. "Does your head hurt, Inuyasha?" He looked over at Miroku's ever smiling face.
"No, why monk?" he snapped in normal grumpy Inuyasha fashion.
Miroku shrugged his shoulders. "Oh, no reason. You looked deep in thought."
Without a second glance Inuyasha reached over and beamed Miroku in the head, leaving a fair sized knot behind. "Think about that next time you ask a stupid question."
-----
Another month passed, summer began to give way to fall. Kagome held tighter to Inuyasha as they flew through the trees, enjoying a birds eye view of the leaves changing colors and the breeze rushing through her hair. He slightly lost his footing, making her clinch herself tigher to his back and he grip her thighs a bit harder. Not even half a second later they were flying again.
"Inuyasha," she said, close enough to his ears she knew he heard her over the wind.
"Yeah," he replied, concentrating on keeping them in the air.
"When you take me out like this, I feel free." To illustrate her point she let go of his shoulders and held her arms out and let her head fall backwards, enjoying the ride.
Tightening his grip he couldn't help but grin and move faster. 'Me, too Kagome, me too.' Jumping a bit higher than before, he delighted in her high pitch giggles and laughter, no matter how much the higher tones hurt his ears.
Slowly he reduced his speed before coming to a halt in an empty field to wait for the others.
"I need to go back to my time for about a week, Inuyasha." He let her down off of his back so she could get a bottle of water out of her bag.
"What for this time?" he asked, almost calm. He accepted the water she handed him.
"Fall exams. They are very important," she replied, taking back the water and taking a sip before putting the cap back on.
"Feh." All of the exams were important to her, but he just didn't see the point. "I'll give you three days."
"I need all week!" she shrieked.
"Four days."
"All seven!"
"I'll give you five days and no more than that!"
"And I'll give you SIT!" She crossed her arms over her chest and looked at his vulnerable form smashed into the damp earth.
The hanyou grumbled from his spot on the ground. "Ungrateful bitch," he muttered.
"Don't make me say it again."
"Fine! All week!" She still stood directly over him, flushed in anger, radiating untamed power. Ever the normal male, he peeked up her skirt when she turned and was rewarded with a glimpse of pink lace.
Half an hour later, the rest of their little group showed up and they decided to set up camp near by at a river Inuyasha and Kagome had spotted earlier in the day. Luckily for the girls, there was a hot spring.
Leaving the boys to set up camp, Kagome and Sango grabbed their bathing supplies and walked the short distance to the spring. They were thankful that it was surrounded by large rocks that would obscure the view of any peeping toms.
Kagome began unknotting her scarf. "Sango, I need some advice."
The other girl was almost completely nude and folding her clothing. "Is it about Inuyasha, Kagome-chan?"
She tried to figure out exactly how to put her little quandry. "Not exactly," she replied, slipping out of her skirt and panties. She carefully folded them before joining Sango in the spring.
"Not exactly?" Sango raised an eyebrow.
Kagome sighed. "Ok, there is this guy in my time who likes me-"
"What's his name??" Sango cut her off.
"Takeshi. He fell into a coma about the same time I came through the well. I don't really know him, but one of his friends thinks that if I go see Takeshi he may get better faster." She sank down into the relaxing water.
"What's the problem with that?" Sango asked, a little confused.
Kagome sighed. "Do you think Inuyasha would be angry? He still wants to murder Houjo for giving me chocolates on White Day!"
"You aren't his mate and he's not courting you so it's none of his business," Sango resolved. "It's as simple as that."
Kagome dunked under the water to get her hair wet. 'Oh how I wish things were that simple.' Squirting shampoo into her hand she thought back to all of the times Inuyasha went to see Kikyo, and how badly it hurt to see them embrace or even kiss; she thought about how badly she wished it was HER in his arms and not some clay jar.
Maybe some wishes weren't meant to come true.
-----
Three days later Kagome climbed out of the well, thankful to be home finally. Inuyasha had been doing nothing but getting under her skin from the day she asked to go home. On a good note they found two shards that hunt and he let her come home a day earlier than they agreed so she could relax before she had to take her exams.
Cracking the door to the well house open she peeked out, hoping there weren't any visitors about to see her coming out filthy and looking like she hadn't had a decent bath for a week.
Luckily for her the only visitors were tied up with grandpa looking bored to the point of illness. She tried not to make too much noise as she exited the building, but all stealth thoughts were brought to a screeching halt when she felt a hand on her shoulder. All thoughts were gone when she screamed and lashed out at the offender, successfully making them yelp along with her when they took a hard blow to the face.
"Calm down, Kagome-chan!" Shin gasped, trying to restrain the struggling girl.
Kagome stopped struggling and pushed the boy away. "Kagome-chan? Who the hell are you and how do you get off calling me Kagome-chan?" She cocked her head to the side and put her hands on her hips.
"Remember Takeshi?"
"Yeah, he's in the hospital still, right?" She stared at the boy for a moment. "You....you're Shin."
He put his arms out and smiled. "The one and only! Now let's see what sort of prize the little lady has won!"
"How about I get to kick you in the place of my choice?" She grinned when his face blanched and started to walk away. "First Takeshi, then Miroku, Houjo, Kouga, and now you too?"
Shin dashed to catch up with her. "Look, I'm not here for me. I'm here for Takeshi. It's been six months, you are never in school, you haven't called your friends, and I know Takeshi would be worried. I know Ayumi is." He stopped when Kagome did, debating if he should back away.
"Since when do you know Ayumi?"
"Since we started dating two months ago." Again he followed as she walked away. "Will you at least go see Takeshi? For me? For my girlfriend?" When Kagome turned around he gave her the best puppy dog eyes he could conjure up, the ones he used on Ayumi when he wanted his way.
Kagome was tied. She had a lot of cramming to do, and she wanted to spend a little time with her family before she had to return to the past. Looking back up at Shin and his pathetic puppy dog face she relented. "Fine. I'll go. Just let me get a shower first."
"Great!" He clapped his hands. "Takeshi will be thrilled."
"Remember, I'm doing this for Ayumi, though I don't see what she has to do with this other than being your girlfriend," she said over her shoulder, walking up to the front door of her home.
"You know," Shin replied in a thoughful voice. "I don't know what she has to do with it either, but you have to admit it was one hell of a trump card."
"You're dirty."
"But I did get my way didn't I?"
-----
Kagome walked into the hospital room behind Shin and Ayumi. She had always hated hospitals; they were too cold and clean, smelled of illness and death. The last time she had been in that hospital was when she brought Souta to visit Satoru, the younger brother of Mayu, and it lead to yet another Inuyasha filled adventure.
Approaching the side of the bed she couldn't believe how bad he looked. What was a handsome young man turned to a pale skeleton. His glow was gone, his muscle tone starting to fade from months of being unconscious in a hospital bed. Slowly she sat down on the edge of the bed and took his hand.
Ayumi slightly pulled on Shin's hand, signaling that she wanted to give Takeshi some time alone with Kagome.
When she heard the door click shut she looked down at the pale boy. "Shin and Ayumi thought it would be good for me to come see you, yet I don't know what to talk about. All I know is we both like apple pie and once attended the same school." She sat silent for a few moments, the only sound in the room coming from the dozens of machines that were attached to Takeshi. "So," she said quietly, "I want to tell you a story. There once was a hanyou boy who was pinned to a tree for fifty years and a strange miko from the future that released him and slowly began to love him....."
-----
When Kagome emerged from the room an hour later Shin and Ayumi had long left, leaving her to return home on her own. Not that she minded, of course. After being in the past for so long it was nice to stroll through the busy streets of Tokyo that she knew as home. If only the people she passed by knew that she had walked through here four hundred years ago when the streets they walked on here in a land called Edo.
Not halfway to the train station she heard her name being called. 'What now?' She slowly turned around to see Houjo running in her direction. "Kagome!" As he approached she tried harder to smile and hoped he didn't see through it.
"Hi Houjo!" she greeted as cheerily as she could manage.
He smiled widely when he came to a stop. "What luck, Kagome, I was just on my way to see you! I saw you come from the hospital. Is your family in good health?"
She nodded. "I was there to see a friend."
"I hope your friend gets better soon." He dug around into his bag that hung from his shoulder. "Your grandpa said you were out of school because of your back, so I wanted to bring you these!" He pulled out a box of self-heating back wraps. "The heat will relax the pain away, and the stones heat on their own!"
Taking the box from him she tried her best to smile and be grateful, no matter how odd she thought his gift was. "Thank you, Houjo. I'll be sure to use them. I hate to be rude, but if I stay any longer I'll miss the last train. Thanks again!" She turned and ran toward the station, feeling uncomfortable talking to him.
When she finally arrived at the shrine it was well past sunset. Her mother left her a plate on the kitchen counter and a note telling her that she and grandpa had taken Souta to a movie and wouldn't be back until later in the evening. She tossed the note into the garbage and took the lid off of the plate. It was odd to eat alone after having dinner with her friends for so long everyday, and then with her family when she was at home. When she finished she washed her plate and utensils before going to her room to study for the night.
Quickly undressing, she looked at the box of wraps that now lay on the bed. 'Maybe my back does hurt a little bit.' She snatched the box up and opened it, taking one wrap out of the packaging and scanning over the directions before putting it on. Pleased with the warming sensations on her back she pulled on a big t-shirt her mother had originally gotten for Inuyasha. Ever the stubborn man he refused to wear it, so Kagome had taken to wearing it to sleep when she was at home. Though he had never worn the shirt it still technically belonged to him and it brought a little comfort to wear it when he wasn't around.
She sighed. Her first test was in math, her toughest subject. "Might as well get this over with." She sat down at her desk and opened her math book. "How can they call this education? It's punishment!"
-----
He knew he told her he would leave her alone for a full seven days, but he couldn't. Inuyasha ran for the well at breakneck speeds, intent on seeing Kagome. He had sen Kikyo again and after that he needed to see her, to make sure she was alright.
"Inuyasha," Kikyo said, "You made a promise to me. I need you."
"I'm trying to avenge your death, but I made a promise to her too. She needs me. And I think I need her."
Kikyo looked almost hurt. "I thought you loved me."
"I did love you, but I'm not so sure anymore."
"She's taken you from me. Are you her's now?"
"She had me from the moment she removed the arrow you used to pin me."
In one clean jump he was into the well, letting the blue light carry him to the place he felt he was supposed to be. Anywhere she was. Emerging in the well house he silently moved through the cracked doors and closed them behind him. His favorite tree soon in sight he jumped, landing on a limb outside of Kagome's bedroom window.
His eyes widened when he saw she stood there in only a pair of panties with a small red box in her hands. He hid himself the best he could in the branches and for the first time in his life wished his father had given him an outfit in green instead of shocking red. He would have to speak with Souta about the strange clothes he called "camo" that seemed so popular in this era as everyday wear.
A smile graced his face when she turned to face the window, giving him full view of her breasts and tiny white panties. 'Not quite a handful,' he thought.
'But would be a good mouth full!' his demon supplied.
'Shut up will ya? You're as bad as the monk!' he threw back at the demon.
'Hey, I go with my carnal instincts, and our instincts want her.'
'You never said things like that about Kikyo.'
'Because Kikyo never got us hard.'
Inuyasha tried to control his temper at his more perverted half when he noticed what she was putting on. 'That's my shirt.' All anger seemed to melt away to be replaced with pride that she would want to wear his clothes, even though he had never worn that particular shirt. He decided that next time he came to visit he would, so she would be covered in his scent; he wanted to keep all men away from her. 'My bitch, his demon said, again up for another round of "piss of the human half".
He continued to watch her study, silently laughing when she would curse at her book or talk to herself. After a couple of hours her family came home and said their goodnights, yet she still stayed glued to that book. Eventually she fell asleep mid-equation and he hopped to the window and walked to the desk. Taking the pencil from her hand he carefully picked her up and moved her to the bed. When he tried to release her she fisted her hands into his shirt. "Stay, Inuyasha."
He didn't know if she was asleep or awake, but he lay next to her and wrapped his arms around her, soon falling into a comfortable sleep with her.
