Inu-Youji
Time was a marvelous thing. You grew up, you lived, and you died. How was it possible such a thing can happen in a world as small as our own? Simple. Miracles. It is a miracle to wake up and breathe in the morning regardless of what happens to us as time wears on. Such things would remain and continue to happen as a creature is born screaming into the world.
Chapter One
Twenty-five years have passed, she thought miserably. Her mind wondered what in the hell she had done to be this bored. To be punished with the cruelty of passing time with nothing to show for it. No one to give her efforts to when she passed from this world. No one to live on from her own blood line. She looked down at the stone pile she sat next to and sighed. He had it so much easier, she decided.
"Your lucky, Kohaku. Life was kind to you in the end. You faded in your sleep and the shard vanished from this world as if it never was. Yet, here I am. It's been twenty five years since you died. Twenty-five years since I haven't aged a day. I wonder how Master Jaken and Sesshomaru-sama have fared over the years. I wonder what they would think if they saw me now, trained and armed to the teeth for slaughtering yokai. I still have your weapon. I remember the day you first trained me in it. You knew even then you were going to die and you wanted to protect your little sister. Thank you, Kohaku." she said. The wind caught at knee length hair and blew it around her small frame. The long ponytail to one side of her hair remained heavy against her temple as she caught the rest of the locks back.
"I need a change of hairstyle." she groaned and flopped back. "That last one nearly killed me, but I got him. Little hairball deserved what he got. Ugh, rat demons." Looking at the sky, Rin smiled. "I wish I could fall in love. Or maybe, meet someone I can have as a partner. Just, someone in my life as you once was. As Sesshomaru-sama and Jaken-san were. I miss all of you so much. But that’s enough about me. How was your week? Good I hope."
Of course there wasn't an answer and after another few hours, the slayer got to her feet. "I'll be seeing you around." she said. "Goodbye, Kohaku-kun." With that, she turned around and mounted the waiting horse. With a kick to its sides, she sent it galloping away in a cloud of dust. She had a demon to hunt down.
By nightfall, Rin was in a new village. Her home had burned to the ground the night of Kohaku's death and she had made for the West. She was the only one human to reside in this place, as Sesshomaru-sama wasn't too fond of them. Yet, it had been years since he had come anywhere near this place. Rin had made it her duty to keep most of these creeps in line. Most of them didn't seem to mind her anymore and those that did often ended up dead.
Her mount was quickly stabled and she made her way inside to have her dinner. One of her house mates looked up from her tea. "The lord is back and he has ordered all residents to the castle tomorrow." the weasel yokai claimed. "He is not pleased with the rumors of a ningen in his lands. He plans to kill you."
Rin smiled coldly. "He can try." she answered. Her thumb ran lovingly over the demon fang she had at her waist. The long dagger was made from a fang of her lord, merely called it Hanone-sama. A name she had given the blade when she was twelve. This and Kohaku's weapon made up the bulk of her arsenal. The blade had poison qualities, a small black gem imbedded in its hilt, and she had recently rewrapped the handle in red silk. "I'm not so easy to kill."
The weasel yokai chortletted at her answer and indicated behind her. "Then you should be able to handle your escort." the yokai hissed before leaping out the open window. Rin watched her go before drawing her blade.
Her dark eyes narrowed on the demons in the doorway of her home. "Well, sirs, how good of you to drop by." she said before leaping over the cooking pit and kicking the nearest back out. He fell into his companions and barely had time to blink before their prey had flipped herself out into the streets. The moonlight caught and held the silver and white threads of her short kimono. Black boots and gloves protected her feet and hands from tear while she handled her weapons. She brought her chain to hand as she smiled.
The very wind shivered around her as she concentrated on her newest foes. Didn't any of them ever learn? She asked herself. "Give yourself up, ningen. Our lord is interested in how such a female like you could slip under our guard." the head guardsman ordered.
Rin arched a brow. Surely he was kidding? Taking a step back, she readjusted her original impression of these fools. Talk was useless, when dealing with the guards. "If you had been doing your job right, I would not need to do it for you." she claimed. An enraged howl was suddenly silenced when a form slid up behind her.
"Drop your weapons." he said in a cool voice. The chain fell from her hand at the same time as she spun around. Standing there before her was the same man who had protected her for years as a child. The same man who she had never hoped to see again.
"Sesshomaru-sama." she breathed. She had known he ruled over these lands for some time, however, she had not dared to hope it would be him. The yokai stared at her coldly before giving a sign. Before Rin could blink she found her arms wrestled behind her and bound with a thick rope. Her weapons were stripped away and she found herself on her knees. Her mind barely took this in as she looked up in awe. Sesshomaru turned around and departed, leaving his men to manhandle her on to her own mount and led to the castle. Rin was soon cursing herself for a fool when she found herself tossed in a dungeon.
"Damn it!" she cursed as she starred at her walls. She had been locked in this place for the last few weeks waiting who knew what. Her patience was gone, replaced with her temper. The only thing that kept her from exploding at this very moment was the fact that she had learned stillness from the best. She stood in the center of her cell just watching the door and the flicker of torchlight on the wall. Two yokai stood guard, awaiting any attempt at escape. None had dared enter beyond throwing her the occasional meal to keep the fragile prisoner alive.
It would not last much longer, her mind told her. Her position was not one she enjoyed, especially after years of freedom. "Damn him." she muttered, least the sound carry to her guards. Rin turned her attention to the hole in the ceiling that allowed for air to get in and shivered. Winter was coming and she was without the proper protections for that season. The stone floor and walls caught and held the chill as well as they would heat. That’s when it hit her. He was planning to freeze her right here in his own dungeon. His brother was right, Sesshomaru was an ass!
The yokai lord sat in his blessedly warm chambers with a blank expression on his face as he viewed what was supposed to be a concubine seducing him. These creatures no longer satisfied him. They were so meek, cold, and passionless. He gave a wave of his hand, dismissing the females. He turned his gaze towards the fields and wondered if he should perhaps relieve his tension by interviewing the pest that resided in his dungeons. Yes, that would serve nicely. Summoning his servants, he ordered them to prepare her for his presence. To escort her to his private garden when they were done.
The men quickly fled and rushed to carry out his orders. They would have her prepared in a matter of moments. He was patient however. A human could only have so much beauty before becoming an enchantress. If she amused him enough, he might allow her to live. With these thoughts, Sesshomaru departed to the small garden he kept for his own amusement and meditation.
Rin was taken by surprise when her guards suddenly seized her and brought her to the surface world. The fresh air poured into her lungs in a rush as sunlight nearly blinded her. She dared not speak and locked her jaw against the groan of pain as she was brought to a private a bath and resolutely scrubbed clean. Her old clothes were torn away, leaving her in nothing but her own bareness before silken garments were covering her skin. Three kimonos covered a light linen shift before she could blink. Her hair was brushed free of tangles and left to hang around her body in a silk current of black. Her dark eyes were lined with kohl, lips highlighted a pale pink, and a slight floral scent applied to ankles, wrists, and neck. In the meantime, Rin growled at the yokai and thought up their deaths to amuse herself.
When she was prepared, she found herself dressed in a pale lilac kimono and two under kimonos made of ivory and pink fabric. She doubted she would be allowed to keep the clothing when whatever was done with her was over. Something wasn't right, she thought. She looked towards the women in the room and noted their red eyes. Aaah. That was it. His concubines had failed him and now he was going to amuse himself with her. So be it. Rin had a few tricks of her own to use against him.
Lead out through a shielded path, Rin noted the wary movements of her 'escort'. They almost looked sorry for her, but surely she was imaging that? At the sudden halt in her guard, she was pushed into a walled garden that no mortal could hope to climb. The muttered words of good luck didn't go unmissed. With a sigh, she turned to face the pale form of her former master. Sesshomaru-sama in all his glory was haloed by the sun and was looking like an angel. A fallen angel, she reminded herself. She didn't speak, she didn't bow, nor did she acknowledge him. Her bare feet moved nearly silently over the ground as she walked forward. She was more interested in the sunlight.
Turning her face up to the warmth, that was most likely to flee her presence at a nod from this man here, she bathed her face in its glory. "Sesshomaru-sama, do you forget your charges so easily?" she asked as she suddenly turned to look at him. Her brown eyes surged with anger as she looked at the man who had been her guardian and her hero at one time.
The Tai-yokai looked down at her, his eyes moving over her form as he circled around her. This woman's audacity did not fit in with his plans for her. How could she even know about Rin or Kohaku for that matter? What was her connection to them? "You would ask me about my charges, when you know nothing of the matter." he countered. "Explain yourself."
She shrugged and flicked a stray lock of blue-black hair behind her. Rin then gave him a brief look before slipping up on tip toes and pressing herself slightly into him. "I am Rin." she whispered coolly.
