The sun popped up above the dewy grass and began to spread light upon feudal Japan. Inuyasha groaned and turned to his side hoping for at least a few moments more sleep. Beside him, Shippau yawned and began to stir. He rubbed his eyes and looked across the land to see no one in view.
"Inuyasha, we must begin our walk to find your friend Kagome."
Inuyasha opened his eyes at the mention of Kagome's name. He had a sudden pain of sadness strike him, but did not show it.
The two friends cleaned up their camp and began walking away from the forest.
"Shippou never mentioned an older brother."
"He most likely doesn't remember me."
"Who was your mother?" Inuyasha asked.
"She was a splendid fox demon. She cared for me so; she wouldn't let a speck of dust fall upon my head. In her demon form, she had Silver fur and gold eyes. She was 2/3 the size of Father. In her human form, she had long silver hair, gold eye shadow and make-up, beautiful silver robes, and an elegant air."
"She sounds wonderful. I can remember my mother some."
"Where is your mother."
"She has left this world behind her."
"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that."
The two of them walked on down the narrow, dusty trail.
"Where is it we are going Inuyasha?"
"Sita said we should go to the lake of Thiatins."
-2 hours later…
Inuyasha and Shippau looked ahead of them and only saw the dust path going on mile after mile. Sweat dripped off of their bodies and landed on the scorched grass. They crossed many dried up rivers and creek. Their thirst grew more with every step. They pushed themselves forward knowing the only rest would come when the moon appeared before them.
"It seems to get drier as we move on." Shippau said exhaustingly, "camp was lush with wild life and this place is like a desert. The lake may have dried up and we have already passed it."
"No, we have not come to it yet. I have a feeling to keep moving on."
8-hours later…
"Inuyasha, the sun is setting and I think we have earned a rest."
"Yeah."
They sat down on the dry, dead grass and eased their muscles best they could. Their faces were red and covered in sweat. Inuyasha removed the top half of his robe. Shippau removed his jacket and tried to relax.
Their mouths were dry and full of dust. They would have given anything for just enough water to wet their chapped lips.
That night they ate a piece of bread and went to sleep in the moonlight.
"Wake up Inuyasha."
Inuyasha opened his eyes and saw Sita standing above him. "I have been watching you and Shippau. I have brought cold water to quench your deep thirst."
Inuyasha's eyes widened at the sound of water. "Where's water!!!" He yelled in an excited voice.
Shippau was awakened by Inuyasha's yell and opens his eyes to see Inuyasha drinking out of a large basket of water. He jumped to his feet and dumped his face into the basket.
The cold water slid down his dry throat and complete happiness spread through him. The two friends drank the water and sloshed it on their dry bodies.
"Thankyou." Shippau said bowing to Sita before going back to the cool water.
"What he said." Inuyasha mumbled quickly.
When the two looked up again Sita was gone. After completely soaking themselves in water they filled containers with the remaining water. They slept much better after the refreshing water.
