Chapter two “Back to the past”
“Two nights. It's been two nights since I shattered the Heavenly Jewel and then came back home without telling any of the others or even InuKage.” Hikaru eyes shot open and she looked around. “Huh? Why am I thinking about him again? Why can't I stop thinking about him?” She asked herself as she sat at her desk in her room at night. She shook her head and picked up the tape recorder again and hit record.
~~Hikaru's POV~~
File number two now recording. Like I said last time my name is Hikaru. It has been two nights now since me, my friends, and family came back from the Feudal Era where I had shattered the Heavenly Jewel and made friends with Kagome and her whole group. I don't know why, but for some reason I want to go back and I keep seeing InuKage's face constantly. I guess I just to make sure everyone's all right. I've got this really bad feeling that something is terribly wrong over there.
~~Normal POV~~
“Sis?” asked a quiet voice. Hikaru jumps in surprise and stops the recorder. She glances up to see Ami, Takara, and Kichiro, in they're pajamas, standing in her doorway. “You ok?” Ami asked with a worried look on her face.
“Yeah. Why do you ask?” Hikaru says.
“You just seem spaced out more then usually are,” Takara said.
“Which is hard to believe,” Kichiro muttered.
“What was that?!” Hikaru demanded from him. He just laughed.
“You're thinking about InuKage huh?” Takara asked. Hikaru blushed, looked at the ground, and nodded her head.
“Then you better go,” Kichiro said which made Hikaru's head whip up and look at them.
“Huh? What are you guys talking about?” Hikaru asked totally bewildered.
“Just don't die over there and tell Hanako, Shippo, and Usagi that me and Kichiro say hi,” Ami said.
Hikaru perched up upon hearing this. She now knew what they were trying to tell her. They were telling her to go back to the gang. “Thanks guys,” she said as she grabbed to small bottle that she had put the two shards in. She quickly stuffed something's into a big backpack and then rushed downstairs to grab her bow and arrows she had been practicing with ever since she came back. For some reason she just started practicing with it and found out she was quite good at it.
Her parents, grandma, uncle, and aunt, who all sat on the couch, looked at her as she rushed around. “Hikaru what are you doing?” her mom asked.
“I can't really talk right now mom, but Ami, Kichiro, and Takara even Sakura, Mayuda, and Satou can tell you why I'm doing this. If you don't believe them,” she tossed them the first cassette from the tape recorder, “then listen to that. All that happened on that tape was recorded by me myself no one else helped or edited it. I tried to make all the details very accurate as possible and I'll warn you know some parts maybe graphic. Now I have to go and help some people.” She slipped her sneakers on and then raced towards the well house. Once inside she dashed to the well and jumped down it with one though in her mind. `Hang on guys. I'm coming back.' On the other side of the well she began to step over the well only to stop when she heard a loud yowl. She looked down to see her foot on the tail of a large white tiger. The tiger looked really familiar to her with its bright blue eyes. “Tora!” Hikaru exclaimed taking her foot off her tail, leaping to the grass, and then she hugged her.
“Good to see you again too Hikaru,” Shitora purred.
“Hikaru you must hurry!” a small voice cried after Hikaru released Shitora from the hug. Hikaru looked at Shitora's head and saw Myoga there.
“Myoga! What's wrong?” Hikaru asked. She knew that if trouble was around Myoga was always the first to flee from it.
“InuYasha and the others are being attacked and InuKage is terribly hurt,” Myoga explained. Hikaru's heart skipped a beat upon hearing this.
`Please no.' “Is he still alive?” she asked with a slight tremble in her voice.
“Not if we don't defeat that foe soon. We think it's using a Heavenly Shard, but we don't know where it's at. Kagome tried to fins it but she couldn't see it,” Shitora explained.
“What are they fighting?” Hikaru asked.
“We all really don't know. We never saw this creature before today. It has black, gray, and white scales covering its body like a sheath, huge wings, and a snaking prehensile tail,” Myoga explained.
“That sounds like a Cornugon,” Hikaru said.
“A what?” both Shitora and Myoga asked confused.
“A Cornugon or a Horned devil, you can call it either name, is part of a group known as devils or baatezu. They are supreme soldiers of the nine hells. They are terrible to look upon even to other baatezu's,” Hikaru explained as got onto Shitora's back. Shitora dashed away as Hikaru continued to explain, “They are very bold fighters who rarely retreat from a battle even if the odds are against them. They love to lash out with they're spiked chains and they usually single out the most powerfulest of they're opponents. They always take them out first before going on to the weaker ones next. But why would it go after InuKage? He's no threat to it. I would be on the other hand. So why go after InuKage?”
“No idea. Do you know how to take one of them down?” Shitora asked.
“Not a clue, but I'll give it my best shot,” Hikaru told her as brought out her bow and arrows. Suddenly she looked around like they were missing something.
“Something wrong Hikaru?” Shitora asked glancing back at her.
“Myoga ran away again! That damn flea. Always running,” Hikaru cursed, “Oh well. Better not worry about him. Right now we have to worry about the others.”
“Right. Hang on tight Hikaru. I'm gonna pick up speed,” Shitora said. With that the two of them dashed towards the rest of the group.
InuYasha and the others weren't faring well against the Cornugon. Shippo, Satoshi, and Usagi were with InuKage off to the side trying to tend to his injuries while everyone else was fighting the Cornugon. Hanako, in her bigger form, Miroku, and Inushiro were beside Kagome ready to defend her if the Cornugon came at her. “What the hell is this thing?!” InuYasha demanded.
Mamoru's white eyes glared at the Cornugon as green energy made his green hair seem to fly upwards. “No freaking clue!” he said as he hurled some rocks at it only to have them sliced in half by the Cornugon's chain.
“What ever it is it's putting up one hell of a fight,” Tsunami said. He had dark blue hair and green eyes. He sent spheres of water at the Cornugon who just dodged them and laughed.
“You weaklings shall never harm me,” it cackled.
“Then try me!” a female voice called out sounding pissed accompanied by a deep growl like that of a big cat.
At the sound of the voice InuKage shot up. `It couldn't?!' he though to himself.
An arrow flew right at the Cornugon and struck it in the wing making it scream in pain. Shitora leapt into the scene growling with Hikaru on her back with her bow in hand. A thing of arrows was attached to her back. “No Horned devil or any other creature is going to harm my friends!” Hikaru hollered with anger visible in her blue eyes.
InuKage could not believe that Hikaru had come back. “Hikaru!” both Shippo and Usagi exclaimed both extremely happy to see her even if it was in the middle of battle.
Hikaru turned to them and saw them next to InuKage. She saw the blood all over him from all the wounds that she supposed the Cornugon gave him when they had been fighting. “InuKage!” she exclaimed as she leapt off of Shitora's back and rushed over to him. Shitora followed right behind her keeping an eye on the Cornugon who InuYasha had gone back to fighting seeing as how Hikaru's arrow hurt it.
`She came back? Why? Why did she come back and why does she seem so worried about me?' InuKage asked himself.
Soon Hikaru and Shitora were by his side kneeling and Hikaru turned to Shippo, Satoshi, and Usagi. “What happened?” she asked.
“That creature appeared out of nowhere a few hours ago and just started attacking InuKage until he collapsed and then InuYasha and the others charged at it while Shippo, Usagi, and I were told to look after him,” Satoshi explained.
“Ok first off that creature is called a Horned devil or Cornugon. He never retreats from a battle. If we can get the chain out of his hands we might stand a chance,” Hikaru said standing up and grabbing another arrow as she turned towards the baatezu. “Shitora go and tell everyone my idea. Tell them to be ready.” Tora nodded. She rushed over to InuYasha and the others to tell them the plan. `Hang on a second. I'm sensing something from this Cornugon so it must mean I can sense the Heavenly shards just like Kagome can sense the Shikon shards. But where is the shard?' Hikaru though. She stared hard at the baatezu until she saw a tiny light on its right shoulder. `There! The shard!' She began to move towards InuYasha and the others putting another arrow into her bow.
“Where the hell do you think your going?” Hikaru glanced behind her to see InuKage trying to stand while Shippo and Usagi were trying to get him to lie down again. He glared right at her.
“If you must know I'm going to help my friends,” Hikaru told him and then she turned back around towards the fight.
“This coming from the one who disappeared two nights ago without even a word to anyone?” InuKage shot back at her.
Hikaru paused for a second or two unsure how to reply to him. “You won't understand even if I told you,” Hikaru said as she strolled over to the rest of the gang ready to fight. InuKage watched her go with concern flickering in his eyes for this girl he barely knew. There was something in her voice that told InuKage she knew what had to be done and was ready to do it by any means necessary. Plus it seemed she regretted leaving without a word. “The shard is in its right shoulder right where the wing bone meets the shoulder,” Hikaru explained to the others after getting over to them.
The Cornugon glared at Hikaru. “So you can see the shards,” it said. Hikaru said nothing and just glared right back at it.
Suddenly Shippo noticed something green and scaly was headed towards his friends. “Kagome behind you!” Shippo called. Everyone quickly turned to see the creature charging them. It had pointed ears and moist green scaly skin. It had a long tail, clawed hands and feet, and a snaky, disgusting beard. In its hands was a massive saw-tooth glaive.
“Any idea what that is Hikaru?” Shitora asked her.
“Yeah. That's a Bearded devil or Barbazu. They usually serve as shock troopers in Baatezu armies. They are aggressive and love to fight. They like to spread mayhem among they're foes when fighting,” Hikaru explained, “Take his glaive away and he'll be easy to take down.” `But why are these two baatezu's here? They're supposed to belong to a game. They aren't suppose to be real,' Hikaru though.
“Half take the Barbazu while the rest take the Cornugon,” Sakuya said, “InuYasha, Kagome, Hikaru, Shitora, Hanako, Houka, and Kaze will take on the Cornugon while the rest of us take on the Barbazu.” Everyone nodded in agreement and squared off with they're opponent.
Soon everyone was fighting. InuYasha charged at the Cornugon with the Tetsusaiga while both Kaze and Houka prepared they're own attacks of wind and fire. Hanako and Shitora stood beside both Kagome and Hikaru ready to defend them at a moments notice. “Your going down!” InuYasha hollered. The Cornugon just smirked and when Inu slashed at it the Cornugon seemed to disappear. “Where'd it go?” InuYasha demanded glaring around trying to find the enemy.
Suddenly the Cornugon appeared behind Hikaru and grabbed her by her throat. “Hikaru!” Shitora cried. Everyone whipped around to see the Cornugon choking Hikaru who had dropped her bow on the ground after it grabbed her. No one knew what to do to help her.
“Wave Claws!” a voice cried. It looked like InuYasha's Blades of Blood only orange and it hit the Cornugon in its back. The Cornugon glanced back at InuKage who stood there growling angrily at it and blood dripping from his body.
`Inu…Kage,' Hikaru though as she saw blood fall from his arm to the ground, `He's way too hurt. He could collapse at any time.'
“Release her right now,” InuKage growled out.
“And what if I do not?” the Cornugon asked calmly not even intimidated.
Hikaru noticed that the Cornugon was being distracted by InuKage and loosening its grip on her neck. `Now's my chance,' she though and slipped her hand into her pocket. `Good thing I decided to bring it along.' She withdrew a pocketknife and jabbed the knife into the Cornugon's shoulder right where the shard was. `Yes!'
“You bitch!” the Cornugon exclaimed as it lashed out and slapped her right in the face.
InuKage's blood boiled, as he smelt Hikaru's blood since some blood was on her bottom lip and falling from her nose. He knew she was hurting he could see it in her eyes and smell it in her scent. “Your dead!” InuKage hollered and charged right at the baatezu. He slashed at its arm that held Hikaru and sliced it clean off. Hikaru fell towards the ground, but InuKage caught her before she hit the ground. “You all right?” he asked her as he crouched on the ground with her still in his arms.
“Not really,” she said then pointed to the knife, “That knife is right where the shard is.”
“Got it.” InuKage placed her on the ground and then lunged for the baatezu again. He slashed at the Cornugon aiming for where the knife was. Soon the shard was clawed out of the Cornugon's shoulder along with the knife. InuKage watched as Hikaru picked up the shard and knife after they landed on the ground.
“You bitch!” the Barbazu cried as it charged at her with its glaive pointed towards her.
“Not today!” InuKage said as he scooped up Hikaru and moving her out of the way.
InuYasha took over from there. “Wind Scar!” The Barbazu was diced by InuYasha's attack. The Cornugon took this opportunity to escape.
“Its finally over,” InuKage said before collapsing to the ground face first.
“InuKage!” he heard Hikaru cry out before he blanked out. “Kagome we need to help him!”
“We'll take him to Kaede's village,” Houka said.
“Yes. Her village is not that far away,” Miroku said. With that Hanako trotted over to InuKage and lowered herself to the ground so Hikaru could easily put InuKage on her back.
Then Hikaru got onto Hanako's back as well. The gang then headed for Kaede's village. Hikaru glanced down at InuKage. `Please hang on InuKage. We're going to get you healed as soon as possible.'
The next morning InuKage awoke to find himself inside a hut. “Where the hell?”
“I would refrain from speaking out loud or you will wake up the young woman beside you,” an elderly voice said. InuKage saw an elderly woman with a patch over her eye.
“Who are you?” he demanded. He glanced beside him to see Hikaru sleeping there with a blanket over her. “What did you do to her?” he growled.
“I merely tended to her wounds and yours. I also put that necklace around neck upon request of the young woman,” the woman said, “I was told by Kagome and the others what had happened.”
“And I also explained a few things to her,” came Hikaru's voice. Both glanced over at her to see her sitting up. “Morning lady Kaede. Morning InuKage,” she said.
Kaede bowed her head to her. “I will inform the others that you are both awake.” With that she left the hut.
“Why did you leave?” InuKage demanded as soon as he was sure Kaede was far enough away so she wouldn't hear them, “Too scared thinking that the Heavenly jewel will turn on you?”
“That,” she said quietly hanging her head sounding sad, “and I had to protect my friends and family. I was the only one that Naraku wanted yet my friends and my family were dragged into this by mistake. After I found out what needed to be done I didn't want to get them involved any more then they needed to be. I hope you understand. I'm sorry I didn't come back right away.”
“Don't apologize. You were thinking about your family and your real friends,” InuKage said looking away from her.
“You guys are also my real friends,” Hikaru said gaining his attention, “Everyday that I was back in my time I kept feeling that something was wrong here and…” She paused unsure if she should tell him everything.
“And?” he questioned.
She took a deep breath and blushing continued, “And I saw your face in everything I did. I couldn't shake it no matter what I did. You could have left me and my friends to face the fury of the next demon to cross our path, but you choose to offer your help and just get us to a village. You didn't have to.”
“I didn't want to help you or your friends, but somewhere deep down something told me to help you. So I did,” he explained.
“Hikaru!” two childish voices cried. Leaping into Hikaru's arms was Usagi and Shippo. The rest of the gang appeared in the hut along with Kaede.
“Will you be staying this time?” Houka asked.
“Yes. I'll stay. Besides you guys are my friends and I won't let anything that I caused hurt my friends,” Hikaru said. The others nodded.
Meanwhile the Cornugon knelt before a sitting figure. “So you return a failure,” the figure says in a cold female voice.
“I am sorry m-lady,” the Cornugon said.
“Sorry is not good enough Zetsu,” the woman said. Something lashed out and killed Zetsu immediately. “Both Zetsu and Yashagawa were unable to obtain any shards.” A butterfly landed on the woman's outstretched finger. “It seems this girl who is suppose to be Hayahisa's reincarnation has returned. I must learn more about her in order to destroy her and obtain the Heavenly shards with ease.” The woman laughs as the butterfly flies away.
Back at Kaede's Hikaru sat awake while the rest of the group was asleep in Kaede's hut with InuYasha, InuKage, Neko, and Sakuya keeping guard outside. `I should continue the log I started,' she though. She then took out the recorder and hit record.
~~Hikaru's POV~~
File number two second recording. I have gone back to the Feudal Era and I made it just in time to help my new friends fight back against a Cornugon and a Barbazu. I don't know how two different devils from Dungeons and Dragons got here in the Feudal Era. Supposedly Dungeons and Dragons was just a game, but some how 2 of its creatures have come to life. I don't know how long this adventure will take. Probably until we locate all the shards of the Heavenly Jewel and some how get rid if it before it kills me or Naraku gets a hold of it. For some reason I have a feeling he is not the only one we have to worry about. Who ever it is I hope we can defeat them soon so I can return to my normal life. Although I doubt after this adventure I will be anything but normal. End file two.
~~Normal POV~~
Hikaru stopped the tape and put the recorder away. `Time for bed. InuYasha will want to move first thing in the morning. I hope I have everything I need for this trip,' Hikaru though as she slipped under the blanket Kaede had provided her and fell asleep. InuKage glanced in at her and then returned to his post quietly.
