Scroll 1: The New Student - Ara-Kun

Kagome Higurashi woke up on an early Friday morning. She yawned lightly and stretched.
"Ah..." she sighed. "Three days." She looked out her window and stared at the shrine longingly.
"Three days since Naraku was deafeated. I wonder how everyone is..."

Inu-Yasha sat in a tree branch, looking up at the sky. A small spec bounced upon his shoulder.
"What troubles you, Lord Inu-Yasha?" asked Myoga, the flea. He sighed.
"It's been three days..." he said.
"Hm?"
"Three days since we have defeated Naraku." Shippo came up to the tree where Inu-Yasha rested.
"I am bored..." he said, sighing.
"Yeah," said Inu-Yasha. There has not been any action since the Shikon Jewel was whole...
"Hey!" said Shippo. "Let's go to Kagome's time!"
"Are you nuts?!" asked Inu-Yasha. "You know we cannot! And besides, I am the only one who can go!"
"Then we will hang on to you."
Miroku and Sango walked up to them.
"That way, we can all see Kagome," said Sango.
"So it is set!" said Shippo.
"Huh?!" said Inu-Yasha. He jumped down from the tree. "We can't!"
"But wasn't it you who said that this era was boring?" asked Shippo.
"Mm-hmm," nodded Miroku. "And wouldn't you like to see Kagome again?"
Inu-Yasha stopped his protest.
Kagome... he thought. Then he stood up.
"Alright! Let's go!" he said. They all cheered.

Kagome looked out the window of her classroom. Everyone in her class was in Independent Reading. Her teacher, in front of the class was looking over a lesson plan. A man came into the classroom, tapped the teacher's shoulder and whispered in his ear. They both left the classroom and only the teacher came back in.
"Class..." he said. Everyone looked up. The teacher motioned for the student to come into the room. He walked in slowly, his long, black hair shifting lightly on his back. Kagome broke out of her daze and looked at the student. The teacher cleared his throat.
"This is our new student, Ara...Kun (stranger name...). Anyway, please give your undivided attention to him, he will be here for a while."
Kagomes heart skipped a beat as she looked at the student's face-- his eyes were pure black, gone of any emotion. He bowed to the class and took his seat in front of Kagome.
This kid... she thought tensely. He looks like--
"No," she said, shaking her head. "I must be losing it..."
After fourty-five minutes, the teacher rose.
"Now..." he said. Everyone put their books away. "As you know, this is the second to the last day of school. So... you all will be given the 'My Neigbor' project from the beginning of school."
A chorus of cheers filled the classroom.
"Yes!" They said. "An easy assignment!" Kagome put her hand on her cheek in wonder.
"Who was my partner again?" she asked herself. Her teacher looked on a clipboard.
"You all will be assigned to the same partners," he said, then casted a look to Kagome.
"Miss Higurashi!" Kagome bolted straight up from her wondering.
"Yes?"
"Since your partner, Hojo, fell ill today, you will be working with our new student."
"What?!" she said in protest.
"Do not get testy with me," he retorted. "You may have missed classes due to your ailments, but be thankful you have gotten by three days in a row." He walked over to Ara-Kun and told him about the assignment. Kagome only saw the back of his head nod.
Great... she thought sadly. All I have to do is show him around the house and the shrine. Easy.
Ara-Kun turned to face Kagome with a simple smile.
"So," he said in a casual tone. "What time do I come?"
"Ah...is seven good?" she shrugged He nodded with his smile.
"Perfect."

Kagome came to the front door of her house.
"I'm home!" she called, taking off her shoes as she entered. Mrs. Higurashi came up to her.
"Welcome home, Kagome!" she said, hugging her. "You have company."
"Huh? Ara-Kun came already?"
"No, your friend, Inu-Yasha."
Kagome's heart skipped a beat. She felt a happiness she thought she would not have felt for thee days.
"Inu-Yasha," she muttered. She ran upstairs and into her room. He was resting soundly and peacefully in her bed. She sat next to him and caressed his long silver hair.
Did you come from the feudal era to see me, Inu-Yasha? She thought. His dog-ears perked and he woke up.
"Kagome..." he said. He pulled her into a loving embrace. She shared the embrace, feeling his warmth.
"Why did you come?" she asked, smiling.
"Because...things weren't the same without you," he said. She blushed deeply.
"Do you mean that--"
"Kagome!!"
Shippo jumped into her lap, giving her a hug.
"We've missed you, Kagome!" he said. Kagome picked him up ad hugged him.
"Shippo! I've missed you too!" she said happily.
"Sango and Miroku are here, too!" he said, pointing at the doorway. Sango and Miroku stood there, smiling at her.
"Nie to see you again, Kagome," said Sango. Miroku rushed to her and grasped her hands
"Likewise," he said quickly. "Will you reconsider my---"
POW
Sango hit him with her large boomerang astride her back!
"I think not, Miroku," she said, angrilly. Kagome smiled.
My friends, she thought. They all came to see me.
She looked around to a clock, reading 6:57. She jumped!
"Ahh! You guys gotta hide!" she said.
"Why?" asked Shippo.
"Yeah!" said Inu-Yasha. "We've waited the whole day for you!"
"But Ara's comming in 3 minutes!" she said. Inu-Yasha lept out the window and into a tree. Sango and Miroku hid in the closet. Shippo looked around in worry.
"What am I gonna do?!" he asked Kagome.
"Hide in Sota's room!" she said. Shippo ran. Kagome ran downstairs and opened the front door. She stopped, however, as she almost ran into a wide-eyed Ara-Kun, who was near touching the doorbell.
"Wow, Kagome!" he said. "Pretty fast!"
"Uh...Yeah!" she said.

Kagome started the tour on her ouse, starting with the kitchen. She introduced her mother, her little brother Sota, and her grandfather, who told to them various legends of irrelevant household items ("Amazing!" said Ara-Kun. "I didn't know that!")

Sango and Miroku were hiding in Kagome's closet, squeezed closely together.
"Isn't this an odd predicament," said Miroku, grinning.
"Don't try anything, Miroku," warned Sango.
"Like this?" he asked, rubbing the curves of her backside. She gave an "eep!" of surprise and was going to slap him.
"Here's my room!" rang Kagome's voice. Sango held back.
"Very creative," said Ara-Kun, looking around.
Inu-Yasha sat within the tree's leaves, looking at Kagome and Ara-Kun from the open window. He sniffed vivdly and gave a low growl.
"There's something about that guy..." he said. "Something bad."
As soon as Kagome and Ara-Kun left the room, a SMACK sounded, followed by Miroku falling out of the closet. Sango came out and picked him up by his neck.
"Do it again and I'll kill you!" she said.

Kagome and Ara-Kun left the house and stood outside.
"Well, that's my house!" said Kagome cheerfully. Thank God...
Ara-Kun felt his chest.
"My amulet..." he said.
"Huh?"
"I think I lost my amulet at your well..."
"Why were you at the well in the first place?" His head lowered slightly.
"Well...I wanted to look at the shrine myself, and when I went to the well, I took my amulet off. Kagome sighed.
"Alright, let's go get it."
They both went over to the wells housing.
"I think I must have dropped it in the well," said Ara-Kun. Kagome stopped--she felt a sense surge within her.
There's a Shikon Shard here, she thought. But I thought we--
"Hey! I found it!"
Ara-Kun help up a gold medallion with a sparkling jewel fragment in it's center....Kagome gasped.
It is! It's a shard of the Shikon Jewel!
It started to shimmer brightly.
"Huh?" said Ara-Kun, as the well glowed brightly. He started to go deeper and deeper into the well's light!"
"Ahh! Help me!!" he cried out. Kagome jumped and grabbed his arm. The pull was too strong!
Ara-Kun's hand slipped out of her grip. She reeled back and hit the wall hard. The glowing ceased, and Kagome's eyes grew in horror.
"Oh, no..." she gasped.
