InuYasha's Strength.
Chapter 3
Nightmares and Realities
InuYasha sat his son at the dining room table and went into the kitchen. He returned with cookies, milk and a couple of glasses and some napkins.
Keitaro sat with his blanket wrapped around him tightly. His little ears tweaked at the sound of his father rummaging through the cupboards and the refrigerator. His amber eyes went wide as InuYasha came into the dining room with the bundle of goodies. The two were silent as InuYasha poured the milk and assorted the cookies. When he sat down Keitaro looked at his cookies and waited.
“Ok Keitaro, dig in.”
“Um, dad?”
“What son?” InuYasha asked with his mouth full of cookies. Keitaro looked down at his lap.
“Dad, what is Naraku?”
InuYasha, who was taking a drink of his milk, stopped and looked over the glass at his son.
“Where did you hear that name Keitaro?”
“Mommy.”
“What?”
“Mommy says it in her sleep sometimes, then her scent changes. She is scared of the Naraku.”
“How do you know?”
“Uncle Sesshomaru says mommy came from a long line of Mikos and you came from a long line of demon royalty, both very powerful races.”
“Keitaro, do you know what a race is?” InuYasha smirked as his little likeness rolled his eyes.
“Keh, I was born at night, but I wasn't born last night.” He said as he took a bite of a cookie.
“Keitaro, tell me. What does she dream?”
“I don't know, but a couple of times she's glowed.”
“Glowed?”
“Yeah, mom says its because the generational duty of the Higurashi clan has been past down to her and someday I will have to take on this duty, as I am the first born.”
`Starting to sound like her grandfather.' InuYasha thought with a bored look.
“But dad, she calls out for you. She fights in her sleep and she screams! And she gets so scared its like-.”
THUMP
The noise startled the two sitting at the table. InuYasha stood up as Keitaro got out of his seat. InuYasha stopped him before he could go any further.
“Keitaro, stay behind me ok?”
“Its ok dad, I know what it is.” Keitaro pushed passed his father and ran upstairs.
“KEITARO!” InuYasha yelled. “GET BACK HERE NOW!”
“Dad its mom! She's having a nightmare! She has them when she is alone!” the boy called from the top of the stairs.

“Kagome.”
“…”
“You can't ignore me.” He said as he walked around to face her. He sat on his knees and waited for a response.
“...”
“I am out of prison now. You know that right?”
“Get out of my head.” Kagome said looking up at him.
“I will come for you. Regardless of the past, I will succeed this time.”
“I said get out!”
“I can't Kagome.” He said as he ran his long fingernails down her throat and over her heart. “You see, you still live. As does that filthy hanyou you call your mate.”
“Calling the kettle black now are we?”
“You see Kagome, once I get that which you so dutifully protect- I will not be half anymore. I will be full demon.”
“I won't let you. I have to willing to give it to you and I'm not so it's a lost cause for you Naraku.”
“No, there is another way to remove it. Though it would be easier for you if just gave it up, I know of another way to- retrieve it.” With that he placed his hands on her swollen belly. She slapped them away and found his hands around her neck.
“If you die, then InuYasha dies. Keitaro is left without parents and the new baby will bare the jewel. If I raise it as my own, then a trust will be formed and the child will give it to me upon my request. Or maybe, I'll just kill you and the baby and be done with it.”
“NO! GET AWAY FROM ME!” Kagome wrapped her hands around his wrists and with a great light purified him from her dream. She felt herself fall; as she did, darkness surrounded her and she fell into unconsciousness and felt nor heard anymore.

InuYasha ran up the second flight of stairs, followed closely by Keitaro. As he opened their bedroom door, he was greeted by the scent of her fear. Just as the little boy had predicted, Kagome was fighting in her sleep and had fallen on the floor. She stopped moving and InuYasha ran to her side.
“Kagome?”
“Mommy?”
“Kags? Answer me Kags.”
“Dad is mom ok?”
InuYasha looked at him. His gaze concerned but his face was emotionless as he looked at his father.
“Keitaro, she'll be fine. Lets put her in bed and we'll sit in the corner and you can tell me what happens in these dreams.
Keitaro only nodded. InuYasha gently picked Kagome up and set her in their bed. As he situated her pillows, Keitaro pulled her feet under the covers and tucked her in. He watched as InuYasha gave her a kiss on her forehead and stroked her cheek lightly.
`Dad really loves mom.' He thought with a smile.
`I'd die without you Kags. I love you.' InuYasha thought as he gave her another peck on the cheek. He then rose up and turned to his son, who sat on the edge of the bed with a small grin on his cheek.
“Ok son, tell me.”
