InuYasha's Strength

Chapter 15
Coming Home

Sesshomaru had been signing the last document as the alarm on his phone went off. Then, hearing InuYasha's less than helpless plea confirmed his fear.

Naraku had set it all up yet again.

Sesshomaru and InuYasha took InuYasha's car back to the house. InuYasha had never been so scared in all his life. He was glad that Kagome wasn't with him as he drove. She would have surely taken his keys and never let him drive again.

`But to have her safe in my arms. That is all I want right now. Kags, please be all right.'

Sesshomaru and InuYasha arrived in time to see several of the men exit surrounding one man with InuYasha's unconscious beauty slung carelessly over his shoulder.

“HEY FUCKER LET GO OF MY MATE!” InuYasha yelled as he charged. Before he knew it, Miroku and Sango appeared in the drive.

“Sesshomaru!” Sango called worriedly.

“We came as soon as the alarm went off!” Miroku said as he came up next to InuYasha.

“InuYasha? When did you get out?” Sango asked out of breath.

“An hour ago. Naraku thinks he can just take off with my mate because I'm not around he's got another thing coming. Sango, find Keitaro and Mieko while I take care of these bastards.”

InuYasha charged the group of men who came at him. He was merciless to his enemies; his only thoughts were of saving Kagome and holding her in his arms once more.

But it was not meant to be.

“KAGOME!” he screamed.

Suddenly, several shots rang out and InuYasha stopped and looked down. His chest had three wounds, his arm had been grazed and the final bullet had passed through his leg. InuYasha ignored the pain and the warnings of his brother and friends. He charged again successful in taking out only a few more before more shots were fired. This time, InuYasha fell and he did not get up again. The last thing he heard was his son's screams and his wife's muffled cries.

-*-*-*-*-*-
Kagome had awoken with the sound her husband's voice and by the first shot had focused enough to see InuYasha come charging at the group of men that surrounded her. She watched as he flung the men out of his way as if they were nothing and suddenly as a hail of bullets entered her beloved's body. She watched in horror as he looked down at his chest, the pain not even registering on his face as he looked back up and charged again. Again, he took a few men out as if they were nothing before another wave of bullets crashed into him.

Kagome could hear herself scream as he fell to the ground. His concealment charm fell next to his lifeless form and his ears appeared. As the group fought off her friends, the man that held her turned and walked towards a waiting car. She started kicking and fighting her way out of her bonds. The next thing she knew, she had been thrown to the ground and felt yet another prick on her neck. The last thing she remembered was seeing InuYasha's ears twitch and hearing what she thought to be the desperate screams of her son.

Keitaro had tried to wait to call for help once it was quite downstairs but he couldn't.

Not after what they said.

“Move and Die.”

Keitaro had decided that as man of the house something had to be done. He tried calling Sesshomaru and found his efforts to be less than futile and gave up. Suddenly Mieko woke up and looked around. Keitaro could sense her confusion and soon her fear ebbed away the confusion and took over.

It was all Keitaro could do to cover his ears to keep his sisters shrill cry from his ears, which though resembled that of a human, had the sensitivity of his true form. Suddenly, he heard a car drive up and two doors slam. He got up and looked out the window.

“DAD!” He turned to his two week old sister and cried. “MIEKO ITS DAD! HE CAME BACK!”

Keitaro watched as his uncles and father fought off his mother's attackers bravely. Finally, when his father had made a walkway he watched as InuYasha made his way to the group that was falling back from the others. Suddenly his father charged, taking out a few men. Suddenly his father cried out his mothers name as a weird sound rang through the air. He watched as his father stopped, looked down and charged again.

The sound didn't register at first, but when it came again and he watched his father fall and his mother kick and scream only to be thrown to the ground, the sound was that of a gun. Suddenly, he panicked. He ran to the crib and picked up his infant sister and held her as he screamed for his parents.

Neither of them moved despite his pleading cries.

Sango rushed through the house knocking anyone who stood in her way down. Many of Naraku's thugs still remained, but were easily taken care of. Sango was in mother mode, nothing could stand in the way of her protecting her young or the young of her best friend.
As she made her way to what she knew to be the room Kagome had used. Upon entering, her heart stopped. She felt a sense of déjà vu as she looked around. There was blood everywhere, along with a couple bodies of the guards had tried to protect Kagome and thugs that had tried to take her. Suddenly, the room was too quiet.

“KEITARO!” Sango called frantically. “KEITARO! MIEKO! WHERE ARE YOU?”

Silence flooded her ears. Then a noise from the closet reached her ears. She opened it with her weapon pointing in front of her. The sight that met her was terrible.

“Mrs. Houshi.” A man on the floor called to her weakly. Sango recognized him as one of the guards from her husband's security company and rushed to his side. Sango assessed his injuries. The man was bleeding from his left shoulder and right leg. Once determining that his injuries weren't life threatening, she asked him again.

“Please, where are the Higurashi children?”

“Mrs. Houshi, they found the kids. If I hadn't- they would've killed them.”

“Kagewaki. Tell me where they are?” She asked quietly. “How did this happen?”

“The kids are in the safe room in the attic above us.” The man panted. “Apparently, we had an insider on the security team, and he managed to infiltrate the system along with some men.”

“Did they reach the children?”

“No, they were waiting for the last digit to the code when I came in with my men.”

Sango sighed in relief.

“Do you know the code to open the door?”

“Only Kagome or Sesshomaru know the code. For security reasons.”

“Ok. Can you stay with me for a minute? I'm going to call for help ok?”

“Believe me, I'm not going anywhere.” He said as he winced.

“Ok. I'll be back.” Sango got up and ran to the door of the room. She quickly looked around the room. Figuring it was safe; she closed, locked and barricaded the door shut. Then she went to the nightstand next to Kagome's bed and picked up the phone.

“Police, what is your emergency?”

“This is Sango Houshi, I'm calling to report shots fired, several injured, several dead and one missing person.”

“Ok Ma'am, where are you located?”

“Sesshomaru Taisho's home.”

“Sounds like a slaughter.”

“It was.”

“All right, help is on the way Mrs. Houshi.”

Sango hung up the phone and tore off the sheets on Kagome's bed. She then went to the closet where Kagewaki lay. She quickly tore the sheets and applied them to his wounds. Tying the mock bandage in place she left him to find Sesshomaru.

Sesshomaru fought off the thugs effortlessly, his thoughts about his wife and daughter, grateful Kagura had gone to see Rin and not stayed here to see this. His thoughts stopped as his brother fell and instinct took over. He quickly fought off all those who came at him and backed off.

“Houshi!” he called to Miroku who was fighting a losing battle against three men. Sesshomaru went to his aid and removed the men from Miroku's disadvantage, taking two of them out without effort.

“Miroku, we need to get back. InuYasha's blood is about to take over.”

“He needs your father's sword!” Miroku said as he dodged another attack. “It's the only thing that has kept his blood in check!”

“I do not have this sword.”

“You do!” Miroku yelled as he ducked and swung his leg out in front of him, knocking his opponent to the ground. “Kagome never leaves the house without it!”

“Where is it then?”
Sesshomaru turned his attention to his brother and watched as his body began the unmistakable transformation.

“I believe Kagome kept it in the attic!” He said as he ran up to Sesshomaru. “We need to get it before he transforms and kills all those who are here!”

“SESSHOMARU!” A frantic voice called. “THE KIDS ARE IN THE ATTIC SAFE HOUSE! WE NEED THE CODE!”

Keitaro sat against the wall, rocking back and forth holding his now sleeping sister; all the while a blank expression on his face. He had put the package over the door as his mother had asked, but it had a comforting scent and he now held it next to his heart in his arms with his infant sister.

“It smells like dad and a little like mom.” He said as he held his sister. “That's why you quit crying.”

The images of his parents falling to the ground were running around mercilessly in his young mind, as well as the memories of how his uncle and father had explained the difference of love and mating.

****Flashback*****

“Dad?” Keitaro asked from one of the chairs in his father's office.

“Yeah Keitaro?” InuYasha asked not looking up from his work.

“What are mates?”

InuYasha stopped writing for a moment before continuing.

“Why do you want to know son?”

“Uncle Sesshomaru said that mates are different than married people.”

Keitaro watched his father scowl before he turned and looked at him.

“Come here son.”

Keitaro nodded and went to his father and InuYasha set him on his knee.

“Mates and married people only have one difference. They can never leave each other.”

“What about all the times you leave dad?”

“Not like that Keitaro. I mean, they can never leave and not come back again.”

“So, you mean if mommy were to run away?”

“She can't because I marked her. I could always find her.”

“Yeah, but what if a mate dies? Then what?”

“Keitaro why do you want to know?”

“I just do dad.”

“Ok, but don't worry about this part ok?”

“Um, ok?”

“When a man and a woman mate, it's meant to last for eternity. So, if say I were to die, then mommy would die with me. But since she has you and soon the new baby, I won't let her die until you guys have mates of your own.”

“But what if she dies?”

Keitaro watched as his father got a far away look on his face then smiled.

“Then, I would follow her. Providing she doesn't make the choice to make me stay her and take care of you.”

“You don't want to take care of me?”

“Not without your mommy. But, I would because I love her and because I love you.”

Keitaro smiled.

“Thanks dad.”

*****End Flashback*****

The image of his father falling face down in the drive and then his mother's motionless body haunted him along with those words. He looked down a Mieko.

“Mom. Dad.” Keitaro whispered. “Don't leave me.” The small boy buried his head in the bundle in his arms and cried. He didn't see the door open, nor feel as the sword was swiftly removed from his arms. Only when some one tried to remove Mieko from his grasp, did he react. His head shot up and he growled viciously, his eyes a familiar pink.
Sango was shocked, but truly knew that it was only because he protecting his sister.

“Keitaro.” She whispered. “Sweetie, its ok.”

His eyes had turned almost red, but it quickly recedes as Sango took him into her arms.

“Sango.”

“It's ok Keitaro.” She said as she stood with him in her arms. He still held Mieko tightly. She turned around and for the first time, noticed the window. To her dismay, she saw InuYasha's demon form chasing men around and slicing them in half. She could only hold Keitaro's head in an opposite direction while she watched InuYasha take out the rest of the men as a black car drove away quickly.

`No. Kagome.' She thought as tears filled her eyes. Suddenly she realized why the boy was so distraught.

“Keitaro, did you see-?”

The little boy nodded.

“Mom and dad are dead. Aren't they?”

Sango said nothing as she watched Miroku and Sesshomaru rush at InuYasha with the sword only to have InuYasha collapse, then as police cars and ambulances came in. Finally the help had arrived.

Only to be too late to help.

Sesshomaru didn't know exactly how to revert InuYasha's blood, but knew as soon he left the house that the youkai within his brother was receding. He watched as InuYasha stopped, turned around and collapsed. The danger was over as he reached InuYasha side.

“InuYasha.”

“She's gone.”

“We'll get her back.”

“Keitaro and Mieko?”

“They are with Sango. They are safe.”

Suddenly, both men cringed as sirens came up the drive.
