Chapter 20: Party of the Year
It was finally here. The big night where Inuyasha and Sango were going to find out if their little plan would work on Kagome and Miroku. It was the night of the biggest party of the year. At the school they all went to, this party was a sort of tradition that had been created about 6 years ago. Every year, one of the most popular kids would host the party at their house and everyone in school was invited. The person that was chosen was to be the host was always very rich because they had to have a big house for all of those people. This year, the host was Inuyasha himself. The host had almost no control over the party itself though.
For this party, a suggestion box was put in the cafeteria for two weeks, and people would write down whatever they wanted to see happen at the party. At the end of the two weeks, the host would be the first person to read the suggestions. He or she would then remove the ones that were not even possible, and then try to fulfill the rest. The host couldn't get rid of one of the ideas if they didn't like it, only if it wasn't possible. It may seem like a big deal just for a party, but everyone got really into it.
The host of the party put more time and effort into it then anyone. For this reason, Inuyasha had been too busy lately to really worry about the Kagome situation. He still couldn't keep it off of his mind, but he couldn't do anything about it. Him and Sango had gone on a couple of "dates", but only because they wanted it to seem like they were really dating. They figured unless they had some practice dating, there was no way they would be able to make things convincing to Kagome and Miroku. But that was about all of the social interaction Inuyasha had in the last two weeks. He was beginning to doubt that the party could really be good enough to be worth all this work, but he sure hoped so.
The party started tonight at 8pm, and the only thing left to do was to put up some last minute decorations. Inuyasha was stoked about this because Kagome had volunteered to come by for a while and help Inuyasha put them up. The theme this year was beach party, and they had two hours to change his house into a beach.....
Inuyasha was currently in his room, looking in the mirror. He couldn't stop worrying about how he looked, even thought he had already seen Kagome at school today. He didn't know how to feel about the fact that he cared what he looked like....That had never happened to him before, ever. This girl just really had an effect on him. Figuring that Kagome would get there any minute, he headed down to the main floor. He was shocked to see that see was already there, just waiting in the entry way.
"Kagome when did you get here?" he asked walking up to her.
"Oh only about 5 minutes ago. I think it was your butler who answered the door....He said he was going to get you."
"I'll have to talk to him about that....."
"It's no big deal Inuyasha, really."
"I'm glad you could make it," Inuyasha said simply.
"Wouldn't miss it. I know we haven't seen each other much lately, and I bet this party has been talking a lot out of you."
"Yeah I guess it has.....So, what are we waiting for, lets get all this decorating over with."
They spent the next 90 minutes talking and laughing, while decorating the kitchen, ballroom, game room, family room, entry way, and a few other places. The main thing they talked about was the party and how school was going. Whenever the topic of Sesshoumaru would come up, Inuyasha would steer away from it as quickly as possible. If Kagome noticed what he was doing, she didn't say anything about it. Inuyasha didn't know if he wanted to talk about him and Sango or not, but he ended up not having to worry about it, 'cause Kagome brought it up.
"How has Sango been lately? I haven't been talking to her enough either." Kagome said casually.
"Uh, she's doing fine...."
"Do you know who she has been dating lately? I keep hearing around school that she has a new boyfriend. Do you know who it is?"
"Yeah I do...... Sango and I have been dating for the last two weeks," Inuyasha said. He couldn't lie to her, so now all he could do was wait and see how she would react.
At first, she didn't really. She seemed to be in shock....
"You are dating Sango? When did this happen? How did I not know anything about it? And better yet, why didn't either of you tell me about it?" She didn't sound mad, but she didn't sound like she was exactly happy for them either.
"Well, like you said yourself you have been busy lately. I guess we just never really found a time that was good to tell you...."
"Oh.....well that's good. I'm really happy for you two," she said smiling. Even Inuyasha could tell the smile was fake though. His hopes soared. Was there really a chance that she cared and didn't want them dating?
For the next 15 minutes they worked in silence, neither of them knowing what to say.
"I should probably be going," Kagome said finally talking. "It's 5:30 and there are some things I need to do before the party. I'll see you tonight k?"
Inuyasha nodded and watched her leave the room. Things were looking up.
~~~~****~~~~
By 9:30pm, Inuyashas house was completely packed, and the party was awesome. The decorations looked great thanks to Kagome and Inuyasha, there was music playing everywhere you went, there was great food thanks to Inuyashas four cooks, and it seemed that everywhere you went in his house someone was hooking up....Or at least some type of action was going on...
"I can't believe you didn't tell me about him!" Miroku yelled turning and walking away from Sango.
They were in the ballroom dancing when Sango told Miroku, and he wasn't holding his feelings about things back. Ignoring the nosey looks people were giving her, Sango ran after him.
"Well I don't see what the big deal is!" she yelled back. "I can date whoever I want to, I thought I was being considerate by telling you now! I didn't want you to find out from someone else."
They were now outside, and apparently that made Miroku feel even more open about showing exactly how he felt about this.
"But Inuyasha? I mean why the hell would you date him of all people?! He is so not your type!"
"How would you know what my type is Miroku? It's not like we talk all that often. And when we do it can't stay serious for more then 5 minutes!"
"You don't really know that Sango now do you?! Because it's not like you've ever really given me a chance!"
"Well it's not like you have ever given me a reason to give you one!"
"Yeah well you have never given me a reason to give you a reason!"
".......Miroku, that didn't even make since...."
"Whatever.....I'm happy for you Sango, really I am......I'm sure that you will make a great couple."
Sango watched him walk off and was really lost now. She had expected him to react, but not this much or this badly.
Miroku ran inside looking for one person and one person only. He was going to find Inuyasha if it was the last thing he did...
Poor, unsuspecting Inuyasha was in the entry way talking to some people who had just arrived when Miroku found him. When he spotted Miroku he waved him over, but there was no need for that. Miroku was already on his way over, and he looked anything but friendly.
"What's up man?" Inuyasha asked.
Miroku didn't reply, instead he punched Inuyasha right in the face and hard. Hard enough that the guests behind him had to catch him so he wouldn't fall.
Shaking out his hand Miroku said, "Don't "what's up" me you bastard! Sango just told me about the two of you. Well, I just expressed to you my feelings on the matter. I can't believe you...."
Miroku looked at Inuyasha in disgust, and excited through the front door. Inuyasha was still too in shock to say anything.
"My god are you alright?"
Inuyasha looked away from the door to see Kagome running up to him. She had taken to the beach theme well and was wearing a yellow bikini top with a green hula skirt. The only thing she was noticing though was the big red spot developing on Inuyashas left check. He looked relieved to see her, but it would seem that he forgot what it was that was causing her to be concerned.
"Of course I am," he said, "How are you doing?"
"Inuyasha I just saw Miroku hit you! What was he talking about, you and Sango?" She paused and it all appeared to register. "Oh....he found out that you two were dating huh?"
"Yeah that's basically what happened. I think he is over reacting just a tad...."
"Lets go find Sango k?" Kagome suggested, leading him away from all the staring people.
Sango wasn't too hard to find. She was in a big room that was almost completely full of people. They were all sitting in a circle playing a sort of spin the bottle. It seemed that Sango had gotten over Miroku quick enough.... Kagome sat down next to Sango, and Inuyasha sat sort of across the circle next to on of his guy friends from school.
"What's going on?" Sango asked not even looking at Kagome when she sat down.
"Oh I'll tell you what's going on. When Miroku found out about you and Inuyasha, he more then freaked out."
"Yeah tell me about it!" Sango said still not really listening. "He totally freaked out at me. I mean, it's really not that big of a deal."
"Well, he obviously thinks it is and Inuyasha is the one who had to pay for it."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"It's supposed to mean, that Miroku just hit Inuyasha in the face and it's partly your fault!"
"What?! My fault? How is it my fault that Miroku is jealous?"
Kagome and Sango were now glaring at each other, and the whole room had basically stopped to listen to their conversation.
"Uh hate to break up this oh so touching moment," said the boy next to Inuyasha, "but the bottle is facing Kagome and Inuyasha."
Inuyasha looked shocked/almost horrified and Kagome just looked confused.
"So?" she said, "What does that mean anyway?"
"That means you two are up!" the boy said like that was a dumb question. "What are you two waiting for? Get in that closet!"
Before Kagome or Inuyasha could say anything, they found themselves being pushed into the closet and having the door shut behind them.
"What the hell?" Kagome yelled. "Let us out of here!"
"I don't think so," came the reply from an unknown voice on the other side of the door. "Not until you two kids do something!"
"Come to think of it, there has been something I have been wanting to say to you," Kagome said turning her anger on Inuyasha.
"What?! What did I do?"
"Oh I don't know! How about dating Sango behind my back for two weeks without telling me! You deserved that punch that Miroku gave you!"
"WHAT!? You have got to be kidding me Kagome! How is it my fault if Miroku is jealous that I'm dating Sango? And it's not like you exactly asked for my approval before dating Sesshoumaru!"
"That's completely different!"
"How!? Name one way that that is different!" Inuyasha challenged.
"Well.....I.....he.....It just is ok!"
Even in the dark of the closet, Kagome could see the smirk on Inuyashas face.
"Yeah that's what I thought," he said smugly.
She didn't reply, but folded her arms in a pout. Inuyasha smiled at her actions, she was so stubborn and just hated being wrong.
Inuyasha couldn't help but stare at her, she noticed and was staring back. The air in the small closet was becoming thick, and Inuyasha brought a hand up to her face and gently stroked her hair.
"Inuyasha," she said softly, "I have a boyfriend."
"Screw that."
With that Inuyasha took her into his arms and kissed her with all of the passion that he was feeling. He couldn't help him self any longer, she was an irresistible temptation.
