“Well, that was pretty easy,” Kagome said, looking at the nearly completed Shikon jewel. Inuyasha just grumbled. Kagome glanced over at Sango, wondering what she was thinking. “Are you okay, Sango? You seem fairly quiet,” Miroku asked. “I'm alright. Just… thinking…” “Perhaps a massage will help you to think,” Miroku suggested as he began rubbing Sango's shoulders. “Ah, Miroku, that does feel…” Sango trailed off as she felt Miroku's hands on her butt. “PERVETED MONK!” *slap* Kagome giggled as Miroku rubbed the palm print on his cheek. “Same old Sango,” she thought. “Hey, look. Who's that down there?” Shippo asked, pointing at a figure amidst a sea of demons. Sango gasped. “It's Kohaku! And he's under attack!”

The gang descended and Sango through her Hirakotsu into the crowd. Half the demons were destroyed and the saw Kohaku, cowering in fear. “Go away! Why are you after me?” “The shard, boy. We know you have it. Give it to us and we'll leave you be,” one of the demons said. “Not if I have anything to say about it!” Inuyasha yelled, slashing through the remaining demons with his Tetsuiga. “Kohaku!” Sango called, running to comfort her brother. “Sister! It's you!” he exclaimed, glad to see his sister. “Well, I hate to interrupt this hug fest, but…” Inuyasha began. “Inuyasha, sit!” Kagome exclaimed. “Uff!” “Sister, why are you here?” “Kohaku, the Shikon jewel shard is almost completed. We only need one more shard.” Kohaku gasped, “But, Sister, without my shard, I won't be able to stay on this plain. I'll have to go the other side.” Sango wiped back the tears that had begun to fall. “I know, Kohaku. But, now that you're free from Naraku's grasp, you'll be at peace on the other side. And you'll be with Father and the other villagers again.” Kohaku looked up at his sister, tears forming in his eyes. “As long as I'll see again one day, sister, then I'll go in peace.” Sango let her tears fall as she motioned to Kagome. Kagome placed her hand Kohaku's shoulder and began to extract the shard. Kohaku cried out in pain as the shard was being pulled out. Suddenly, something inside Sango snapped. She struck out and grasped Kagome's hand. “Sango?! What are you doing?” Sango pushed Kagome aside and held up her Hirakotsu like a shield. “I can't let you kill my brother. Not unless you kill me first!” Sango threw her Hirakotsu at Kagome, which was swiftly knocked away my Inuyasha's Tetsuiga. “You wanna play it that way, fine. You can die along with him!” Inuyasha cried, preparing to attack. Kagome stood in front of Inuyasha. “Out of the way, Kagome!” “Inuyasha! You can't kill Sango. She's our friend. I won't let her die because of some dumb jewel shard!” As Inuyasha and Kagome began to argue, Kohaku glanced at the partially extracted shard in his shoulder. “All this fighting over a single jewel shard. Naraku put this shard in me. It was him who brought be back from a place I should never have left. I belong with the dead, not the living. It's up to me to end this.” Kohaku reached back and pulled at the jewel shard. It was stuck tightly and painful to move. He grimaced each time he pulled on it. Then, in one quick movement he finally pulled out the shard. “Sister,” he said in a whisper, “for you.” Sango gasped at the sight before her. Kohaku, who was now dead, grasped the last jewel shard between his fingers. “No…Kohaku!” she cried out collapsing to the ground. “It'll be okay, Sango. He is at peace now,” Miroku said, hoping to comfort her. In a few moments, Sango regained her composure and they gave her brother a proper burial. As Miroku blessed the grave, Kagome admired the completed Shikon jewel. “It's over now… it's finally over.”
