This went through a lot of edits. I hope that it's not too confusing and there is an extreme likelihood that I'll edit the end of this part before posting the next.

Enjoy and feedback is always welcome!

Kagome flushed and stuttered through several intelligible forms of speech. She didn't look at him until she felt the slight pressure of his claws on her face. The kiss he gave her didn't last very long. It was short and sweet. Not passionate, just a brush of his mouth against hers.

When he pulled back, it was barely an inch away. "Every touch means something," he said finally and then released her completely.

She felt a slight chill at the loss of his warmth but took a step back. She sat on the edge of the well and watched him for a moment. She was about to ask what it meant when he answered it for her.

"Short, brief, like the time we'll be apart."

Kagome nodded and then jumped into the well. Inuyasha stared at the well for a long time.

"Kagome..."

"Kagome-chan! You're here! Again!" Emi looked even more surprised than she had the day before. She also looked delighted as Kagome took her seat. "What is it now, five days? A whole week of school?"

"Yeah," Kagome said. She opened one of her books. "Five days."

"Is something wrong? Are you feeling sick again?" Yuka asked. She and Emi exchanged a look.

"No." She turned the page of the text. She forced a deep breath of air into her body. If she wasn't careful, she might start crying. "I guess, I've just been away so long, that I feel like I'm in a different reality now." She swallowed painfully.

"Is it because of that boy?" Ayumi asked.

The noise around them became hushed, almost muted as the other two girls strained for Kagome's answer. She was still and then looked over her shoulder.

"Whenever I'm with him, this world doesn't exist. I've been here for five days, Ayumi-chan. Five days and reality is dull, boring. When I'm with him, I see everything in color. Here is black and white." She shrugged. "Melodramatic, but factual." Kagome drew in a deep breath. "But we're taking a break."

"You're afraid you may never see him again." Ayumi gave a supportive smile when Kagome looked surprised. She then shook her head.

"Never is impossible for us. I'm hoping he comes within the next year."

The teacher called the class to order. Kagome stared dumbly at the text once more. She was alone. Alone.

And it was her own doing.

"Higurashi-san?"

"Hojo-kun?" Kagome's recognition of him was slow. For a moment, she thought she was talking to a mature refined Kouga. Hojo smiled at her and held out yet another of his presents.

"You looked sad during class yesterday. I saw these and immediately thought of you."

It was a dog and cat kissing. The stuffed animals were almost nauseatingly cute. Kagome raised an eyebrow and looked up at him. The young man was blushing horribly.

"Don't ask why," he wrinkled his nose. "It just did."

She smiled and leaned up to kiss his cheek. It was forward and almost impolite, but she didn't care. She ached to share even brief physical contact.

"Thank you, Hojo-kun. This is perfect."

The young man gave her one of his bright smiles. He almost sparkled in his joy. It made her smile grow as she hugged her present. "Did you name them?" she teased.

Hojo stuttered and tried to answer her several times. It made her laugh. She held up a hand to stop him from embarrassing himself any further. "Thank you again. You're a very sweet boy."

She turned to walk home, her hair bounced behind her. She was nearly skipping. It had been such a long time since she had received a gift--

Kagome halted abruptly. She stopped in front of the steps that led up to her home. Her stomach sank and began to churn. She had forgotten Inuyasha's gift the moment Hojo had given her the plushies. She had dismissed him from her mind. He hadn't been a part of that conversation.

She heaved and bile burned her throat. Kagome attempted to make her stomach settle; she took deep breaths and closed her eyes. She tried to climb up the steps as quickly as she could. Instead It was slow and laborious. She had to stop several times as sound nearly overwhelmed her mind.

Once in her house, Kagome pushed Souta out of the way. Her mother made muted sounds of concern. She made it to the bathroom.

She vomited.

"Damnit, Kouga, you could have mentioned this." Her face was wet from sweat and tears. She leaned against the cold porcelain of the bathtub as she tried to catch her breath. The only thing she hadn't thrown up by this point was blood. Never had she been so violently ill.

Kagome coughed and acid continued to burn her throat. Her mother had taken away her spoiled clothes and washed her face. Kagome couldn't move from the floor, nor did she particularly want to.

"Kagome?" Her mother knelt down in front of her. "There is a young man here to see you."

"Hojo-kun?"

"No. He's darker and wearing a similar outfit to your inuyoukai friend. I told him you were sick and couldn't have visitors."

"No! Don't send him away!" Kagome began to get frantic. She tried to stand and failed. She tried again, not caring that she was nearly naked. Her mother tried to support her, but she was just dead weight. All of her strength was gone.

Still she pushed and nearly fell to the ground. She was caught and lifted into strong arms. Violet eyes glared down at her.

"Inuyasha?"

"Keh. I knew you would get sick." He looked away from her. He nodded at her mother and then began to carry her back into the bedroom. "Stupid bitch."

"I am not a bitch, nor am I stupid," she argued. He laid her down on her bed and pulled her blankets gently over her. She glared at him, but his image began to blur. "Why are you human? It's only been two weeks since the last full moon."

Inuyasha briefly stroked her hair in an attempt to soothe her. It felt right to have him touch her so gently. It felt normal to have him comfortable enough to reach out to her. However, they had not parted on comfortable terms. Kagome was confused.

"You should get some rest. You'll feel better in the morning."

"Give me an answer or I'll twist your ears off the next time I see them." She began to sit up. He pushed her back into her pillows and handed her a stuffed panda. It distracted her for a moment before she sat up again.

"You're not going to twist my ears off," he muttered, pushing her back down.

"You really want to test that?"

"Kagome..."

"Inuyasha," she mimicked but stayed down. Her stomach was starting to twist and she didn't want to start puking again.

He sighed and sat on the floor. His back was to the bed and his hands stuffed into his sleeves.

"It's been five months."
