Prologue
Rin Kent, a young woman of twenty years old, sat at the window in the living room of her cozy little apartment, gazing out at the stars. She was absolutely beautiful. Long, shiny, ebony colored tresses extended downward to rest upon the backs of her thighs. Her eyes were the color of dark chocolate, which were set just above her perfect nose. Underneath said nose rested a pair of full, pouty lips that begged to be kissed. The rest of her body didn't disappoint, either.
She sighed softly and pulled her knees to her chest, resting her chin atop them as her eyes drifted closed. It never failed. Each time she had something good going on in her life, something or someone would come and take it all away. Things had been like this since as far back as she could remember.
The first incident happened before she was even born.
Her mother died of cancer. Ovarian Cancer. The discovery was made while she was carrying Rin, and decisions had to be made. Terminate the pregnancy and undergo chemotherapy and other treatments, or continue with the pregnancy only to let the cancer get so bad there wouldn't be any hope of possibly curing the disease. Rin's mother and father made the choice. They decided to give their baby a chance at life. Six months after her birth, Rin's mother passed away.
Rin envied her father, Jackson Kent. Raising a baby on his own wasn't easy, and that baby being a girl only added to the difficulty, but she was the apple of his eye, wanting absolutely nothing but the best for her. And that's exactly what she got. The best clothes from the best designers, the best shoes, cars, jewelry, nothing was to good for her in his eyes, and money was no object. He doted upon her whenever her got the chance to.
A lone tear rolled down Rin's cheek. She lost her father a little over two years ago. She was told he passed away due to natural causes, but she knew that wasn't the case. He died of a broken heart. Her mother died, then she went away to attend college, leaving him alone. There was never anything she regretted doing in her life, but leaving him was the first. She knew she should have stayed with him, then maybe he would still be alive.
Another tear rolled down her cheek. She knew her parents wouldn't want her to blame herself for anything that happened, but she couldn't help but feel responsible. If her mother would have gone through with chemo, chances are she would have lived longer than she did. If she wouldn't have gone away to college, then her father would still be alive to call her on a regular basis to see how she was doing. She was truly alone in the world.
That was only the beginning.
Author's Notes: I know the prologue is short, but I intend to make the upcoming chapters much longer. This was intended to be a one-shot, but it kind of grew in my mind, so it will be multi-chapters.
