InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ It's My Life ❯ Chapter 1

[ A - All Readers ]

This idea has been hanging around my brain refusing to leave me alone. Let me know if
it's good or not, it's my first try at a songfic.

Disclaimer: I Do Not own either Inuyasha which belongs to Rumiko Takahashi or “It's
My Life” by Jon Bon Jovi.

It's My Life

*Pant. Pant* “This will Never happen again. I swear it.” Kagome said breathlessly as a
worried hanyou hovered around her getting in the way.

“Inuyasha. If you do not sit in the corner out of the way I Will kick you out of the
house.” Kaede snapped. Her patience had finally been exhausted. The afore mentioned
hanyou kissed his pregnant mate on the forehead once more before slinking off to do as
Kaede told him.

This ain't a song for the broken-hearted
No silent prayer for the faith-departed
I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd
You're gonna hear my voice
When I shout it out loud

As he sat watching his mate being tended by two women who amounted to her sister and
grandmother as she was ready to give birth to his child. Inuyasha never expected
anything like this to happen.

He still remembered the day he overheard the term hanyou for the first time. He was
playing with his ball, by himself as usual because for some reason little Inuyasha could
never figure out none of the other children ever played with him. He had thrown the ball
too far and it ended up rolling into to the middle of a group of people. He picked the ball
up from where it lay at the feet of a man. He looked to the man to see if he wanted to
play and the man sneered at him.

“Hanyou.” The man said scornfully before all the people turned their backs to him and
walked away. Curious about what the man had called him the young boy ran to his
mother.

“Mama what does `hanyou' mean?” The woman looked down at her sweet son, worrying
how the harshness of reality would change him and for how long she could prevent it.

“Oh Inu. Hanyou means that you are different. That your Father and I cared for each
other so deeply that despite what many people said we had you. People might not
understand because your Father was a youkai and it is unusual for humans and youkai to
have children together.” If he had known then how much she had protected him from he
would have worried her less and told her he loved her more.

It's my life
It's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just wanna live while I'm alive
It's my life

“Ahhhh.” Another groan from his mate pulled Inuyasha out of his musings. “How long
will this go on?” Kagome whined.

“It depends child. It depends.” Kaede answered.

“On what?!” Kagome responded. Inuyasha smiled, not daring to laugh, as he fell back
into his own thoughts.

After being on his own and hunted form an early age the chance to get stronger and erase
that which caused him much pain was one Inuyasha was not going to pass up. With that
jewel he could become a full-blood, either human or youkai. He had thought about it, he
wasn't stupid. It's just that action and reaction had saved his life more times than
thinking so they tended to be his first response. The hanyou had decided on becoming a
full youkai not only for the strength gain but also because humans had caused most of the
misery in his life. Humans had killed both of his parents, had chased, beaten, and tried to
kill him for no other reason than the fact he was different to many times. Most demons
that tried to kill him were looking for an easy meal and Inuyasha couldn't fault them for
doing the same thing he himself did.

However Inuyasha found the jewel to be better guarded than he thought by a beautiful
priestess. Slowly his obsession with the jewel transferred itself to the priestess Kikyo,
who he recognized as also being lonely.

Eventually he began to love her. So when he believed she had betrayed him the hurt was
so great he didn't think, he just grabbed the jewel and ran. Inuyasha hopped that
becoming a demon would lessen the pain he felt. His plan was halted though when a half
dead Kikyo sealed him to the Goshinboku as her last act in that life.

This is for the ones who stood their ground
For Tommy and Gina who never backed down
Tomorrow's getting harder make no mistake
Luck ain't even lucky
Got to make your own breaks

Inuyasha shook himself. He still didn't like thinking about being stuck in stasis for fifty
years unaware of all that went on around him. Neither alive nor dead. Until the lovely
woman on the futon in the room released him from his prison. He wasn't proud of his
first reaction to the girl. She smelled so good, it resembled Kikyo's sent only better, and
she resembled his old love so much he had thought her to be Kikyo. His anger caused his
abrasiveness to come forth and he started to insult her. When the centipede youkai died
he immediately honed in on the jewel she carried. When he did so an old woman cast the
spell that was to be the bane of his existence for a long time, she placed the beads of
subjugation on him. The blasted beads forced him to stick around; even after Kagome
broke the jewel and he wanted to run around gather the shards without being hampered
by her. Inuyasha was glad he went with her in the end because in addition to accepting
him she gave him what he had thought he would always be denied, a family.

It's my life

First was the damned brat who he just couldn't leave behind. Inuyasha knew from
personal experience how hard it was to survive on your own that young and he didn't
want the kitsune to have to suffer what he had. Besides they were not that dissimilar;
Shippo was clever enough to survive for a while before Inuyasha and Kagome had shown
up and they both dearly loved Kagome. So he joined the group and became their little
brother.

The next to join their odd ball group was a perverted, cursed monk. From this young
man Inuyasha learned of Naraku, the one who had tricked Kikyo and Inuyasha as well as
cursing Miroku's family. To Inuyasha who had never had a friend besides Kikyo,
Kagome and Shippo it was refreshing to have a male his equivalent age to talk to.
Eventually Miroku became more of a brother and together they lamented over girl
problems. At least Miroku did and Inuyasha was forced to listen.

Then Sango came along with Kirara. Inuyasha got along well with Sango because they
were both warriors, and both had lost their families. It was a relief to Inuyasha that he
had some good people to watch his back even though many people were confused, even
angry as to how and why such a diverse group worked together. They make a formidable
team. Each challenge brought them closer together, made them into the family they were
today.

Better stand tall when they're calling you out
Don't bend, don't break, baby, don't back down

The biggest challenge they faced was the final battle with Naraku. They did not face the
battle alone though, Sesshomaru and Kouga both agreed to temporary truces with
Inuyasha and decided to help take down the evil hanyou. The adults decided it was best
if Shippo and Rin stayed at Kaede's so they did with Ginta, Hakaku and Jaken to guard
them.

The battle was, in a word, intense. Kagome held off and beat Kanna. Sango and Kirara
battled Kagura, enraged that the wind witch had done nothing to stop Naraku from killing
Kohaku to get his shard. Kouga and Miroku handled the numerous lesser demos, which
left Naraku to the brothers. Naraku, his barrier rendered useless by the red Tetsuiga, did
not fair well but lasted an impressive amount of time. He was finally defeated when
Sesshomaru, who stood with Naraku between him and his brother, unleashed Tokijin's
ultimate move. The evil hanyou was facing Sesshomaru and dodged the attack. Inuyasha
could not escape it so he thought fast and used the backlash wave to redirect the attack
back at Naraku. (a/n: Don't know if it would work but I wouldn't want to be on the
receiving end.) The combined power resulted in the death the death of their enemy. It
seemed so surreal, to finally have completed the quest that had taken so long.

Kagome picked up Naraku's part of the jewel and purified it. Kouga knew what had to
happen next and handed his shards over peaceably. The group discussed it and decided
not to make a whish, at least not yet because no one wanted to make a whish and cause
more havoc.

It's my life

I just want to live while I'm alive

“Ahhhhh!” Inuyasha's head snapped up at a particularly loud scream.

“I see it. Push. Good keep going.” Inuyasha's attention was riveted on the three women.
Eventually Kagome's shouts were replaced by the infant's cries. Kaede cleaned the baby
while Sango mopped Kagome's brow. Inuyasha moved over to sit behind Kagome,
lifting her into a sitting position bracing her against his chest. Kaede placed a silver
haired, puppy eared bundle in Kagome's arms.

He remembered the night he asked her to be his mate, to be by his side forever. It was
one of the two best days of his life. This day was the other.

Though much of his life had been unpleasant to say the least and he had sometimes
wondered why he bothered to go on he realized that he was too stubborn to give in. And
he was glad he never had because it was worth it. He had a family to love, proved for
and protect and who did the same for him.
