Chapter 17

The Shikon Jewel

The room was quiet, all the machines were smashed up into little pieces and the window was wide open. A breeze blew into the silent room.

"What are you doing? Aren't you going to chase after her Inu-kun?" The voice mocked them while a small laugh escaped from the voice.

Sesshoumaru quickly ran towards the shadows trying to grab the mysterious person but missed. Standing near the window, the voice laughed again.

"You fucking bitch! Who do you think you are?" Inuyasha yelled only to make the voice laugh even more.

"Oh dear me! Have you forgotten my voice already?" The voice asked while walking out of the shadows so Inuyasha could get a better view of the person. Standing there was Kikyo dressed all in black. "It is me Inuyasha. Kikyo! Oh and before you go all crazy on me, it wasn't me who destroyed Rin's Machine. It was already like this when I got here." She started to walk towards the bed to where Rin laid. Sesshoumaru had run out to find the doctors.

"I was on a mission and it was to kill Rin. When I came up here, I saw the Machines were already broken and Kagome standing there. We chatted for awhile and when we heard you were coming, she jumped out of the window. Since I didn't do anything, I decided to stay and tell you about this. Don't blame me for anything! I'm innocent."

Inuyasha growled. "You LIAR! Kagome would never do something like that! Rin's her friend!"

"And Kagome's a ghost! Face it Inuyasha, Kagome isn't a good ghost. She has been deceiving you all these times. I wouldn't advise you to go look for her now."

"And why is that Bitch?"

"Kagome is with her beloved long lost Sonaki." Inuyasha's eyes widened.

"So what if she's with him, she doesn't love him anymore."

"Are you so sure about that Inuyasha? How do you know?"

"Shut up wench! Kagome wouldn't do anything you just said. She hates the guy! He KILLED her FAMILY!!! Her FRIENDS!!! Heck he even killed HER!!! How can she love someone like that?"

"She just does ok?" Kikyo snapped. "Look Inuyasha, I'm trying to help you right now. Don't go near Kagome. Only bad things will happen to her. My boss is Kouga. And from such coincidence, he happened to be called Sonaki."

"What the fuck are you saying? Kouga is this Sonaki shit dude?"

"Good job Inuyasha! You figured that out on your own." Kikyo laughed. "Since I'm working for him, I know exactly what's he's going to do. It's your choice to believe me or not.

Kouga's boss had wanted everyone from the village destroyed and that also includes spirits."

"How the hell can they kill spirits?"

"Simple, Kouga's boss has this new kind of `pet' and the only things they eat are spirits. Spirits who can't return to the afterlife are rare cases and the boss will not tolerate it if she is able to leave to the afterlife. This is such a rare chance for him to strengthen up his new pet and he will stop at nothing to get Kagome. Do you understand Inuyasha? He'll kill you too to get to Kagome.

Right now, Kouga's main job is to get back all of Kagome's trust so when he brings her back to the boss, she's dead. Her soul will be nothing and she will wander around in a world of darkness all alone and afraid. A place where nothing can be heard, said or touch." Kikyo smiled sadly. "That kind of world is the worst, not even Kagome deserves to go to a place like this."

Inuyasha stared at Kikyo. It seemed as if she just had a change of heart. "Tell me the truth, who did this to Rin?"

"As I said before, I think it's Kagome since when I arrived here, it was already destroyed.

"I don't that, Kagome would NEVER do anything lie that. But answer this too. Why are you telling me all this?" Kikyo laughed quietly. "Kagome doesn't deserve this, I guess… I feel sorry for her. And the other reason is that I love you."

"Kikyo I don't have time for this. I have to find Kagome."

"Inuyasha didn't you hear me? You'll be killed if you stay near Kagome! Naraku is going to kill you!"

"Naraku?"

"He's Kouga's boss. He's a pure evil man who only thinks about himself. I'm sick of him and want him to be destroyed. That's why I'm helping you guys. I will stay as a spy and tell you everything Naraku tells me. He must be stopped."

"Ok Kikyo, I understand but I'm still going to find Kagome." And with that Inuyasha ran out the door.

"Inuyasha…"

Sesshoumaru and some doctors and police rushed into the room.

"FREEZE!!!" one of the police yelled while holding a gun towards Kikyo.

"Great… look at the mess Inuyasha leaves me in…" She muttered as she quickly ran towards the window.

"Hey! FREEZE!!!" the police yelled while firing at her. Kikyo managed to get passed them all and out through the window.

Sesshoumaru turned and faced the doctor. "Forget about her for now, go help RIN!!!" The doctors nodded and quickly paged some nurses to bring in new machines.

Inuyasha walked in the dark. `Where are you Kagome? What Kikyo said can't be true can it?' Inuyasha shook his head. `Kagome wouldn't just go back to him. Kikyo must be lying. She must be lying about everything! She's not a spy, Kagome didn't hurt Rin, Kagome isn't with Kouga, Kouga isn't trying to kill her and this Naraku guy is not real.' Inuyasha stopped. "What if everything IS true?" He muttered to himself.

~Flashback~

"I don't know what to do anymore. Everything is just a blur to me I-" She took a deep breath. "I'm scared Inuyasha, I'm scared that he will haunt me forever, never letting me go. I'm scared that I will never be able to forget about him and move on. I'm really scared."

Was all that just acting?

"Help me." She pleaded in a soft whisper. "Help me."

No, it couldn't have been. She was crying her heart out. Kagome would never just go back to him. It's not possible…. She can't go back to him.

"She just does ok?" Kikyo snapped. "Look Inuyasha, I'm trying to help you right now. Don't go near Kagome. Only bad things will happen to her. My boss is Kouga. And from such coincidence, he happened to be called Sonaki."

Then Kikyo was just lying back there too?

"Kagome doesn't deserve this, I guess… I feel sorry for her. And the other reason is that I love you."

~End of Flashback~

Inuyasha held his head.

"NOTHING IN THIS FUCKING WORLD MAKES ANY GOD DAMN SENSE!!!" He yelled as he continued walking. The words Kikyo had said to him kept ringing over and over again and again. He didn't know what to believe anymore.

"The only way to find out is to find Kagome right now." He sighed.

~*~*~*~

"I'm telling the truth Miroku! Believe ME!!!" Sango hollered as she was walking towards Inuyasha's place with Miroku following her.

"Ok Sango! I understand! Kagome has a little sister, so what's the big deal about that?"

Sango screamed in frustration. "GOD!!! Did you not hear one word I just said to you??? Kagome's so called `sister' isn't her real `sister'!"

Miroku smiled widely. "Ah! I get it now!" Sango turned around and smiled at him.

"They are step sisters then right?" Sango could have just smacked him or just fall to the ground in annoyance.

"FORGET IT!!! Just come with me right now!!!"

"As you wish my Dearest Sango for I will follow you to the ends of the world."

"Oh brother…"

As they neared the cottage, Sango spotted something.

"Hey hey!" She whispered to Miroku, "Come over here for a sec!" Running up towards the river instead of the house, Sango could see 2 people near the river.

"Who do you think they are?" Sango asked while huddled behind a bush. Miroku just stood out in the open. "Who are who? Who are you talking about Sango?" Just then one of the people turned around and Sango nearly pulled him into the bush.

"Why Sango, I didn't know y-"

"Oh shut up for a second! You're gonna get us caught!" Miroku nodded and moved some leaves around so he could see what Sango was seeing.

"I see two people and I think someone is in the water. Could they be trespassers?"

"Could be, but lets watch them for a bit longer before we jump to conclusion." Sango nodded and looked back to the people.

`I feel as if I'm been watched.' Kagome thought to herself. Kouga had said he was going to go retrieve the pendant that Inuyasha had thrown away. Kagome started to fidget a bit as she looked up towards the moon. The sky seemed so gloomy tonight. The past few days, the night always seemed peaceful and happy with a serene atmosphere but tonight…

`Something seems wrong.' She though and placed a hand on her heart. "And missing."

"What's wrong Kag?" Kouga hollered. Kagome smiled and turned towards the voice. "Nothing' wrong. I was just thinking."

"Ok then." Kagome smiled, Kouga was so nice to her. `He's trying so hard to get the pendant too.' She thought. She had wondered why the pendant was so special and what it did and Kouga told her as they we walking here.

~Flashback~

"Kagome, the pedant I gave you has special powers."

"Really?"

"Yes they do. I had found this near the village at some point. I had asked my boss about it and he told me that it's the Shikon jewel."

"Shikon jewel? Wasn't that just a legend? And wasn't the jewel supposed to be pink instead of orange?"

"Yes it's supposed to be pink BUT! Only when the holder has found true happiness and love would it shine bright pink like it did to its old owner. It also shines when the destined person is near you."

"Old owner?"

"Yes, it was heard that this jewel holds amazing powers. When the user holds it and the person she loves dies, the jewel will crack slightly but not entirely. If you have found the person who you are destined to be with and love him, then the jewel will shine bright pink and all cracks will be gone."

Kagome smile. "WOW!!! That's so cool! Who's the owner of it now?" Kouga stopped and hugged Kagome close. "It belongs to you now." Koga whispered.

"Then you must be the person I'm destined to be with." Kagome said cheerfully. Kouga didn't reply and when Kagome looked up, she saw a frown but Kouga and quickly changed it into a smile. "So that's the story about why the pendant is important." Kouga said, ignoring what Kagome had said earlier. "Where's the river?"

~End of Flashback~

Kagome sighed. `Something seems to trouble Kouga a bit….

Just then Kouga's stood up straight. Kagome looked at where he was staring at but saw nothing.

"What is it Kouga? Do you see something?" Kouga shook his head and continued searching.

"I don't believe it!" Sango whispered.

"Believe what? I still don't know who those 2 people are!"

"I don't believe this! Is t-this a date? Is Kagome going on a date with Kouga?"

"What? Sango are you serious? I thought Kagome liked Inuyasha and here's she is, on a date with Kouga?"

"I'm not sure though. That stupid Inuyasha, never asked her out when he had the chance."

"May be there's a logically explanation for all this."

"I don't care if there is or not, Kagome is too good for Kouga!"

"Isn't Kagome also too good for Inuyasha?"

"Ah shut up Miroku, Kagome is too good for any of those losers but Inuyasha is better, at least he's uh… he's… our friend." Miroku stared at Sango for a moment.

"I couldn't think of anything else! Sheesh, cut me some slack would ya?" Miroku laughed and continued watching.

"We should go tell Inuyasha about this."

"But Inuyasha would kill Kouga then. I say we should tell him to ask Kagome out as soon as possible and DON'T tell him about this. I still have more years to live!"

Sango rolled her eyes. "Fine, we won't tell him… yet. Com'on lets go!" They both got up quietly and started to walk back down the hill when they saw Inuyasha. Walking towards the cottage.

"Yo!" Inuyasha called out to Sango and Miroku. Sango began to panic.

"H-hey Inuyasha! What's up?"

"Nothing, but I'm looking for Kagome, it's very important, her mother said she went out today." Inuyasha said as he started up towards the river.

"Where are you going?" Miroku called out. "The house you go up from the front stupid!"

Inuyasha growled. "Who said I'm going to the house, I'm going to the river. I need to think and Kagome might be there." He continued walking but Sango stepped right in front of him.

"Inuyasha! I haven't seen you in AGES!! Let's all go to my place and play a little game k? Ok?"

"Sango, I saw you at school today and why are you at my place anyways?"

Miroku and Sango stared at each other. "Uh.. I came to get you to come over to my place to play some games! Let's go Inuyasha!" Sango replied as she started walking away from the river.

"Nah, I'm going to the river, I'll see you guys later ok?" Inuyasha started to walk towards the river once again. Sango bite her lip. Already she could faintly see 2 figures at the river. `Come on Sango! THINK!!!'

"Inuyasha! I advised you to not go over there!" Miroku hollered. "You can go any day, just not right now! Inuyasha! Are you listening to me?" Inuyasha stopped and that made Miroku smile. `Finally he's going to listen to us."

"Let's all go to my place right now! I got this new game that we should try it out. Let's go Inuyasha!" Sango declared as she started to walk towards her house but Miroku stopped her. Sango turned around to see what was wrong but Miroku just pointed at Inuyasha.

Inuyasha was standing there, he didn't move muscle. Sango's eyes widen as she ran towards him. When she and Miroku got there, they saw Kagome hugging Kouga, a smile plastered on her face. But there was one thing that surprised Inuyasha and didn't to the others were that Kagome was wearing the pendant and it was shining, although very faintly, pink.

The wind was blowing quietly as a lone figure was sitting on the roof top of Inuyasha's cottage.

"Everything is to plan." The voice said quietly. "Soon, my pet will be stronger enough for me to absorb its power to make into my own. Yes Kagome. You are my main focus right now. And that Shikon jewel.

Naraku chuckled quietly. "I knew Kikyo couldn't do her part properly, made me go through all the trouble of destroying the machines and even disguising as Kagome. Foolish humans, they are such pathetic creatures."

~*~*~*~

The room was quiet once again like it had before. Rin laid in bed pale as ever. Sesshoumaru didn't know what to do anymore.

He had heard the discussion his little brother and that bitch was having in the room while he went to get the doctors. Kikyo had stated that Kagome destroyed the machines.

Sesshoumaru clenched his hand as he growled softly. Kagome was a ghost, she could not be trusted. His brother was a fool to befriend a killer like her.

"Kagome will pay." Sesshoumaru growled as he got up and left the room. Just when he left Rin had opened her mouth slightly. Only one word was she able to say before she fell back into a coma.

"S-s-stop…"

~*~*~*~

"Inuyasha…" Sango said softly. She looked down and Miroku fell silent. He walked to stand beside Inuyasha. "Inuyasha, please don't go and kill K-"

"So it was true." Inuyasha stated, dazed from the scene in front of him. "Kikyo was right."

"Kikyo?" Miroku and Sango exclaimed. Inuyasha didn't say anything more as he turned around and walked away.

"Inuyasha…" Sango didn't know what to do as she started walking back home with Miroku following her.

Inuyasha walked slowly into the cottage, he was beyond shocked at what just happened. It was true. Everything Kikyo said was true and Inuyasha didn't what to believe it. He staggered to his bed and collapsed when he reached there. He felt dead but why? So what if Kagome is back with her `Sonaki'? Inuyasha spat and said the name with an utter disgust. "Life was much better without him." Inuyasha stated.

"Love hurts. That's why you shouldn't be a part of it." Inuyasha looked up to see his history teacher standing next to the window.

"When did you get here?" He yelled.

"I was always here, watching Kagome. I had told you that you couldn't keep her covered forever." She turned to the window and smiled sadly. "May be you should just listen to Kikyo and forget about Kagome. Naraku's after her and you can't do anything to stop him. You should just stop trying to help Kagome, you will only hurt yourself even more."

Inuyasha didn't say anything.

"Inuyasha, if you intend to help Kagome, then be ready to give up your life." Shinde stated as she walked out the door to leave the place.

"Eh? The pink colour faded slightly." Kagome exclaimed.

"That's ok, as long as we have it, it's ok right?

"Right!" Kagome chirped as she smiled really wide.

`May be I should.' Inuyasha thought. `I'm only hurting myself. I guess I should stop helping her and move on to my life pretending I never met her.' He sighed. "I guess I don't have a choice anymore. I hope your happy now Kagome." Inuyasha said as he got ready for bed.

No one noticed but on the faintly pink jewel that hung around Kagome's neck, a very tiny crack appeared.

Sorry for the late update. Internet wasn't working so I couldn't upload my stories!!! It's gonna be fixed in a few days. T-T oh well. Why am I writing this right now when you guys read this, of course my internet would be back. -_- oh well. Whatever…
