Once again, I’m sorry for the delay. Things just aren’t going all to well at the moment, no matter, there’s nothing that’ll stop me from my updates. That’s a promise. Things can, however, slow them down as they have been. Well, I’d like to thank everyone for the reviews, but I still can’t access them long enough to respond (you only get an hour per computer at the library).
I am having really bad writer’s block with this fic though, so if any one wants to email me to give me some ideas, my email is in my profile. Or, just leave anything in a review. I could really use some help.
Well, this chapter will focus more on Kagome and Naraku, and also, Mayuko finds a secret that can very well distinguish any ‘relationship’ she’d ever had with Naraku.
Thanks a bunch to my awesome beta! Sweet Raptured Light.
Chapter 7- The Truth Revealed
Naraku had let Kagome know that she would be sleeping in the same room Shippo had slept in. She was glad to know that he wasn’t kept in a dungeon and that she wouldn’t be either. She spent most of the day lying down on the tatami in her room, thinking over the various escape routes. Honestly, Kagome was having second thoughts on her decision, but she would never have been able to let Shippo stay with that monster.
Kagome was trying not to loose her temper with Naraku. She needed to get to him and find out exactly what he would trade for Miroku’s wind tunnel to be rid of, and Kohaku released to Sango. But she doubted that would be an easy task. She needed to get the shikon as well. That, would be the hardest task of all, but there was no doubt that she would undertake the challenge.
Kagura came into her room an hour later, telling Kagome to follow her to Naraku’s chambers so that he could speak to her about the terms of her stay. Maybe she could attack him then, maybe we would attack her. Whatever was to happen, she was prepared for it, and she would not leave his room until he knew exactly how she felt about him and everything he had done.
She followed Kagura through the many hallways, already she was lost in the many twists and turns of the place. Finally, they came to a large door, Kagura knocked gently before leaving Kagome by herself. “Come in, Kagome.” She had to keep from shivering at the way he said her name, she didn’t like it one bit, but she opened the door and walked in nonetheless, closing the door behind her.
“What do you want, Naraku?” She said with an underlying tone of malice. He smirked at her, motioning for her to come and sit in the chair across from him. Hesitantly, she did so, glaring at him as soon as she made eye contact. “Well? Are you going to answer me or should I leave to keep from wasting even more of my time in your ungrateful presence?” ‘Where did that come from?’ Naraku raised an eyebrow before shrugging off her comment, and began to speak.
“First, you will watch your mouth. Disrespect me in my own home, and you will be punished. Secondly, you will obey me. If you do not, I will personally make sure you regret your decisions. Each day you will train, and I expect improvements on both your power and control, after all, I will be needing your power for my own personal reasons. And in due time, miko, you will not object to my using you.
“I expect you to stay clean as well. I will not have you stinking up my home with your human scent. You will be free here, and may converse with any of my minions, be it Kagura, Mayuko, or anyone else you may happen to come across. Now for the restrictions. If you ever try to escape me, there will be dire consequences. You will not disrespect, nor disobey me. If you do, you will deserve whatever comes your way.
“Do not leave my barrier. I know you can sense it, so you shouldn’t have a hard time staying inside of it. If you listen to me, and do as I say, you should have no problem coping with your new home. And one more thing, never disturb me. Now, go and train yourself. If you wish for a sparing partner, you may choose anyone here. If your powers do not strengthen, you will find yourself battling me. Perhaps when your life is truly at risk you will show more enthusiasm in becoming stronger. If not, hold no doubt that I will spare your life.”
Kagome stared at Naraku indifferently. Of course she would train, but not to let him gain access to her powers. She would train to kill him and avenge the death of her friend’s family, and Inuyasha’s love. Miroku’s cursed void would disappear forever and the shikon no tama would be returned to its rightful owner. ‘The shikon no tama.’ What would she do once it was whole again? She didn’t know. But either way, this wasn’t the time to be thinking about that. She turned her back on him and walked out from his chambers, fully intent on beginning her training.
She walked down the halls, trying to find her way out of the maze she was now ‘living’ in. Kagome scoffed at her own thoughts. How the hell could things turn out this way? This was the last thing she wanted, to see Naraku everyday, knowing you don’t have the strength to defeat him on your own. It sickened her, but she would learn to put up with it until she could.
She finally came upon a large room, and hearing voices inside, she entered. “Kagura.” Kagome yelled to the wind witch. “Where do I go if I want to find the training room?” Kagome asked. Kagura walked over to her, leaving Mayuko who now had a curious look on her face. She nodded her head, motioning for Kagome to follow her down the hall.
After a few twists and turns every now and then, they came upon a large, square room. Kagome’s eyes widened as she stepped inside. Everything was black. The walls, the ceiling, aside from the few sunroof looking holes every now and then, the floor, and the door. The few paintings on the wall of bloody battles were the only thing giving the room any semblance of color. There were a few weapons in a case in the back of the room, and a large door on the right side. Kagome briefly wondered what was on the other side of it, but soon labeled her inquiry for later examination.
“Use anything you wish.” Kagura said before leaving and heading back from the way they came. “And if you wish to spar,” She called over her shoulder, “Just find me.” Kagome smiled and walked fully into the room, shutting the door behind her. She looked around, seeing a few torches, she then noticed the hooks on the walls and lit them, one by one placing them where they belong.
With the extra light, she walked over to the weapons closet looked for a bow. Finding none, she hesitantly pulled out an old katana. The blade looked perfectly new, but the sheath gave away the old age of the sword. She gripped onto the handle and walked into the center of the room, closing her eyes and focusing on the inner core of her being, her power.
She felt heat rush through her veins and focused on the blade she was holding. Her energy flared out and into the sword, the blue light now emanating from it sent even more light into the room. She smiled and let one hand leave the katana, placing it palm out in front of her. She focused hard, willing her power to go into her hand while still maintaining some on the sword. Her hand sparked, a small oval shaped blue light forming in front of it. “Yes!” She squealed. “Not quite a full shield, but in time I’ll perfect it!” She took the sword with her to a corner of the room and set it down beside her. She quickly began her meditation, full of hope for her new plan.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Naraku watched her train through Kanna’s mirror. One extremely short session and she’d channeled energy through an old sword and created a shield. No matter how small, he knew she would perfect it within the next few days. ‘She’s better then I thought.’ He decided, ‘I guess that means I’ll have to quicken the pace of everything I’m planning.’
Mayuko ran into the room, a mixture of confusion, hatred, and hope shinning in her eyes. “Na-Naraku, I’m only going to ask you this once!” She yelled, having no effect on the hanyou. “Was it you who killed my family, only sparing me because of the power you felt within me?” Naraku cracked a smirk, this was not going to end very well. But yet, he wouldn’t stoop as low as to lie about something he’d done and been extremely proud of.
He nodded, watching every thing aside from the now dominating hate leave her aura. Her eyes glazed over with malice, red seeping into them. Her claws lengthened, sharpening into a point as whiskers sprang fourth from her cheeks. Her tail narrowed as the fluffiness left it, making her look more like the neko youkai she’d transformed into. She sprang forward, drawing her katals and slashing at Naraku who easily jumped away, amusement shone clearly in his eyes.
Mayuko hissed lightly, jumping at him again, her katals quickly stashed back into their sheaths. She slashed mercilessly at him, not once hitting him. He moved effortlessly away from her as she went about with her attack. She feigned right and went in on the left, slicing him in the side. Though not a wound harmful enough to consider anything more then a minor infliction, blood seeped through his shirt. Naraku growled, this was getting neither of them anywhere. He stopped, coming directly at her, his arm outstretching and turning into a tentacle that pierced through her gut.
Mayuko stopped, leaning over his hand as pain flooded her senses. She slashed at him, trying to free herself from him. Eventually, he retracted his hand and released many more tiny tentacles that shot into her, pinning her to the wall.
Blood dripped from her body, pain coursing through her veins. Her vision slowly cleared, revealing breathtaking silver eyes. “Why?” she coughed, squeezing her eyes closed. “Why did you go on all these years lying to me?” Her smirked, chuckling lightly.
“I never lied to you, my dear. I simply left out the whole truth. You asked me who killed your parents and siblings, and I told you that it was someone evil and merciless, someone doing everything in his power to rein. All I left out, was that he was myself.” He shook his head. “It’s really too bad, my pet. I could have used you. You could have had tremendous powers, but you’ve thrown them all away. I’ll give you one chance to take it back. You may redeem yourself by killing the monk.”
Her eyes hardened as she yelled ‘no’. Naraku smirked again, pulling the tentacles from her body, he watched as she slumped to the ground in a pool of her blood. Her walked over to her and sent one more tentacle to slam into her head, knocking her unconscious. He swung her over his shoulder and walked out of the room, down the corridor, and into the training room. Kagome was still meditating, so he simply floated to the large door on the one side of the room and entered with Mayuko.
Once in, he laid her down on a bed and chained her to it, keeping her as his prisoner until she died. He could easily enough take out his pains and frustrations on her, or even more, he could use her to gain pleasure. Either way, she would be his toy for the rest of her miserable life. He looked around, seeing many other skeletons hanging on the walls, stuck up with chains, or bunched up on the floor, broken into many pieces. He took pride in each and every kill, letting anyone who ever wandered into this room know that he was not one to fool around with, or they too, could end up one of his collection.
He left just as he had entered, unseen by his precious miko training to defeat her very comrades. Well, they weren’t really her comrades anymore, but she considered them her dearest friends. He wondered what the looks on their faces would be like once they realized that Kagome would assist with their defeat, as one of his own allies, his dearest ally at that. Their best friend taken in and turned against them by their worse enemy, nothing would be worse.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She’d felt him enter, she wasn’t dumb enough to let him know though. She felt someone else with him as well, and recognized their aura, just couldn’t place it. The biggest thing though, was the fact that he’d taken her into that other room, and he left her there. Now she needed to know what was on the other side of the door, so she stood up, letting her curiosity get the best of her and walked over to the large door.
She pushed it gently, not a budge. Kagome sighed and pushed harder, still nothing, the door just wouldn’t open. Raising her hands, she forced her miko energy into the door, immediately being thrown back against the opposite wall. “The door has some kind of protection from my miko powers so there must be something important inside.” Standing up, she brushed off her backside and walked back up to the door again. “I have to find a way to get in there!” She told herself, going back over to the corner to sit down and begin her meditation again.
She closed her eyes, a frown marring her calm exterior. She couldn’t meditate when she wanted something as bad as she wanted inside that room. The only other option was to think of ways to open the door, only after could she find inner peace enough to concentrate on nothing. “I’ll do it.” She promised herself. “I’ll find a way and I’ll get myself into that room, no matter what it takes.”
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Makoto felt a strong pull on her soul, then felt a piece of a bond enter her that she thought she’d never feel again. There could only be one reason the bond with Mayuko had returned, well a small piece of it, but that meant that Mayuko felt hate towards Naraku. They’d had a bond long ago, but when her own hate for the malicious hanyou Naraku had come into contact with Mayuko’s love for the bastard, the bond had broken. And because Makoto still hated Naraku just as much if not more then before, then Mayuko would have to feel hate towards him too.
Then it hit her. Pain, anger, betrayal, all of Mayuko’s present feelings. There was only one thing Makoto could think of that had happened. Mayuko had found out about Naraku killing her parents and she snapped. Naraku most likely kept her, as he kept all of his traitorous ‘followers’ in the past. But in that case, Mayuko was most likely being tortured. “Damn.” She cursed. “There is no way I can leave her there, not when she’d be a good ally during the final battle.” Although she wasn’t sure when the battle would rage, she knew it had to be nearing.
“Sesshomaru!” Makoto yelled. In only seconds the demon lord was at her side. “I’m going to Naraku.” Although his face remained stoic, his eyes told her that he thought she was crazy, but she spoke before a word could pass his lips. “I need to find Mayuko and make certain the reason our bond has returned is what I am thinking. Also, if that is true, I’ll need to free her from Naraku.”
“You will not go to that bastard hanyou, Makoto. It is far too dangerous. What do you think Rin would say if something were to happen to you?” Makoto smiled to herself as Sesshomaru tried his hardest not to let her know that it was he who feared for her life. Getting soft at the moment was not going to slip.
“I will come back for Rin.” And with those final words she left, walking onto the balcony and jumping off, running into the distance to where she knew Naraku’s castle was located. She would go there and she would meet up with Mayuko. But she couldn’t be sure as to whether or noth she would be coming back as she said. After all, Naraku was an extremely formidable foe, hanyou or not.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She ran back to the wall, suppressing every ounce of her miko strength until it was completely un-sensible. She walked over to the door again, making sure to keep her miko powers hidden within the confines of her soul. She timidly brought her hand back to the door and pushed. It budged. She pushed harder, using all of her strength to open the door that was no doubt supposed to keep her out.
She walked in, brining a hand to her nose as the smell drifted to her senses. Her eyes widened when she felt herself moving backwards and she quickly forced her powers back once again. The tugging stopped and she walked forward, seeing something move on a bed in another part of the room, she carefully walked towards it, running forward when she saw it was Mayuko.
“Oh kami!” She said under her breath when she saw Mayuko’s battered state. She quickly yanked the chains away from the walls with and growled when she realized she’d used her powers to do so. She quickly grabbed a hold of Mayuko tightly and let her miko energy flow through her. Her and Mayuko flew back out of the room as the door slammed shut behind them. Kagome braced herself for the impact and made sure she was perfectly behind Mayuko before slamming into the wall.
Kagome groaned, feeling Mayuko move off of her. “What happened?” The young demoness asked Kagome. Suddenly, her growl filled the room. “Where is he? I’ll kill him!” Kagome sat up and shook her head, pushing Mayuko’s shoulders backwards until she was lying on the ground.
“Naraku is the one that put you in this state, and I am going to heal you.” With that, her hands glowed pink as, as did Mayuko’s body as the power engulfed her. Her body quickly mended, the pain ebbing away to a near distant memory. Kagome removed her hands from the girl, the pink fading away as she shakily stood up. “Wow, I guess that took a lot out of me.” Mayuko stood up, bowing to Kagome as she said her thanks.
“Why did you do it though?” Kagome smiled softly at Mayuko, remembering how Kagura told she knew nothing about Naraku killing her parents, or that truly Naraku was the bad guy in this whole ordeal with the shikon no tama.
“Well, for one, you deserve a second chance, a life free of Naraku. You didn’t know, and now you’ve paid the price. None of this was your fault.” Mayuko smiled at her, wondering how a soul can possible be as pure as Kagome’s. Many would have turned their backs on her by now, but Kagome didn’t she was there. Despite everything she had done to her friends. Tearing apart Sango and Miroku, and causing problems.
“Thank you, Kagome-chan, but I need to leave. Naraku would be furious if he found me here outside that room. Kagome nodded absentmindedly, wondering if she could send Mayuko back to her friends. She smiled, realizing the perfect way to send her back to them without Inuyasha killing her!
“You’ll need to take this with you to Inuyasha and everyone.” Mayuko shook her head, but watched curiously as Kagome took out some things from her pocket. “This,” she said, taking out and handing her a small pouch. “This is a pouch filled with chocolate. Milk duds more specifically. Here is a trial sized perfume from American Eagle too. Just let them see these things and tell them that I wish for you to rejoin the group, for real this time. They’ll let you. But you do need to go now.”
“Thank you so much.” She bowed once more before leaving the room and following the twists and turns of the rest of the castle until she reached the door. She stepped outside the dark fortress, walking three steps before a thick miasma covered the area, swirling around her. “No,” she whispered, knowing this was all too good to be true. Who could honestly get away from Naraku so easily as that?…..No one could.
“Where did you think you were going Mayuko?” His voice rang throughout the area. She screamed when tentacles flew at her from every direction, above her and to every side she could possibly escape from. A blue light formed around her and upon contact, the tentacles disappeared. “You bitch!” She heard Naraku yell before a scream was ripped from Kagome’s throat.
