Chapter 18

“So, you're telling me that after all you went through that the other night, absolute shit happened?”

Inuyasha nodded.

“Nothing?”

“Yeah.”

“Zip??”

“Yep.”

“Absolute squat?!”

“I already said yes!”

“Well, WHY!!!”

Inuyasha shrugged, “I don't know, I guess I just didn't want to. We met up later with Muso. I'm sure you remember him, right? He was one of Naraku's minions.”

“Yeah, I remember him. What did he want though, coming to the school? Was he there for the jewel shards?”

“Yeah. When he saw Kagome with them, he started reaching for them, and then I stopped him. Stupid bastard. He coulda hurt Kagome.”

Miroku smirked, “You know, Inuyasha. For a heartless bastard, you seem to care an awful lot for Kagome.”

“Shut up, Houshi,” Inuyasha said, gulping down the last of his coffee. “I'm supposed to protect the shards, remember? It's something I have to do. Kagome just happens to be the bearer of the shards until Naraku is defeated.”

Miroku nodded, totally disagreeing with what Inuyasha said, “Well, once we kill Naraku, what's going to happen to the entire jewel itself. It's not like you or I can keep it. It needs to be protected by a pure soul; a priestess.”

Inuyasha sighed deeply and ran an agonizing hand through his hair, “I guess Kagome's task won't be complete then.”

Miroku nodded, “Guess not.”

“Kagome, child, you had two minor faults on your examination. They are simple errors that I find you made on account of laziness. What be the trouble?”

Kagome sat on the piano bench in the empty music room with Kaede pacing around her back carrying a clipboard and making notes on Kagome's form and position. Kagome took her hands off the piano keys and placed her hands on her lap and played with her fingernails.

“I'm sorry, Kaede. My mind just seems to be on other things today. I don't really seem to be feeling all that well.”

“The weather getting to you, child?” Kaede asked. Kagome nodded.

“I suppose so. I wouldn't understand why though. I used to love the rain. Now, I don't know. I guess my woman's intuition is acting up.”

“You say you intuition, Kagome?” Kaede asked interestingly. She grabbed a nearby stool and brought it closer to Kagome and crossed her ankles. “Tell me what ye mean.”

“Well, just the other day after the dance, Inuyasha and I were encountered by a strange man who called himself Muso. Inuyasha accused him of being Naraku, but the man denied it. However, I felt a similar aura to this man as I do to Naraku. You do understand who and what I am talking about, right Kaede? You did say you are Kikyo's sister, so I thought -”

“Yes, child, I understand. Go on.”

Kagome nodded, “Well, he seemed very interested in the jewel shards that I have. And I felt that night another unusual presence, somewhat stronger than Muso's. I have reasons to believe it was Naraku.”

“You think Naraku was at the school?”

Kagome nodded quickly, and then tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “I'm not 100% positive, but I think it was. Because a part from having a queasy feeling in my stomach, I felt another presence of the jewel shards.”

“Have you told anyone other than me about this, Kagome?” Kaede demanded.

Kagome shook her head, “No one.”

Kaede sighed inwardly, “Good, it'd be best if this was just between you and me for a while.”

Kagome nodded and then stood up from the bench. “Thanks, Kaede. Oh, and I'm sorry about my mistakes. I should have been paying closer attention.”

Kaede smiled, “Do not worry about it, you received 97%, you only would have had 99,” she announced with a wink and then closed the door behind Kagome as she walked out of the music room.

“I'm growing impatient.”

“I understand, but we can not seem to reach her while Inuyasha is present.”

“You think me a fool for not knowing this! Of course that persistent bastard is always present; he has to protect the girl. But, I am growing tiresome of this cat and mouse game. I want it done, and I want it done right, even if I have to do it myself.”

“What do you have in mind?”

Naraku smirked and grabbed his cloak hanging off of the back of a chair, “How long would it take to put together a Jade Mirror?”

“A Jade Mirror? You can't be serious. You believe that meddling with fate and freezing time is necessary in capturing this girl, Naraku?”

Naraku grinned, “Whatever it takes. But how long would it take to gather the pieces?”

“About six days,” his minion responded.

Naraku draped his cloak over his shoulders and glowered at his minion, “Then inform everyone that the final battle will take place at Toukijoutsu College in exactly six days.”
