I wanted to do something other than Save my world. So I wrote this little thing.
No, Sesshomaru and Rin were not lovers. More father/daughter relationship.

“Sesshomaru?”
“Hmm?”
“Did you love her?”
Kagome almost regretted asking, but no, she needed to know. She had to know. Sesshomaru was sitting a few feet away from her, his back to a large boulder, sitting straight and his head held high. That didn't mean he wasn't hurting inside. She had never seen many emotions from the Demon Lord. That didn't mean he didn't have any. Everyone, everything has to have some feelings. He included.
“Yes.”
His answer came finally, chipping away a little at the tension between the two. Kagome looked down at her hands, trying to think of what she should say next. What could she possibly say next? She knew what it felt like to be loved and to have that love be unrequited. Did she know how it felt to be rejected? Yes. There just seemed something different in his case. Rin had been, she was his…she didn't know how to describe it. At first she had seen the two and wondered if maybe the little girl wasn't sound in the head. After all, that would explain why she followed the murderous Demon Lord around. When Sesshomaru allied with them against Naraku though, and she spent more time with the little girl, she had realized. Rin looked up Sesshomaru like a father. And he looked upon her like a daughter.
And now she had left him. She had left fearing him. Kagome tried to stop the tears, she tried so hard, but they fell any way. Not heading her frantic requests. As the tears slid down her cheeks and then fell to meet her cotton shirt, she thought about what she had seen. Sesshomaru's undeniable love for the little girl, now turned gawky teenager. Of course he didn't show it. Of course there were no hugs and kisses. No piggyback rides or hide and seek games. But he loved her the only way he could. He protected her to show his devotion. He clothed her, he fed her, and he loved her.
And now she was gone.
She looked up at Sesshomaru to she him looking at her, a curious expression on his face. She found she couldn't say what she had wanted to. She found she couldn't speak at all. Instead, she did the only thing she knew she could do. Standing, she awkwardly closed the space between them and then knelt before him, only a few inches away. Taking a deep breath to steady her nerves—she didn't know how he would react after all—she leaned forward and gently but firmly wrapped her arms around him, holding him in a tight embrace.
It was awkward, for he was quite a bit larger than her, and the unspoken fact that she did still fear him. She felt him stiffen, and held him that much tighter, willing him to feel the words she was thinking. To know that is would be all right. To know `She did love you. That's all that matters…she loved you once.'
And then he relaxed, and she felt his one arm slowly come around her, laying lightly across her lower back and then she was pulled all the closer to him, and his head was leaning on her shoulder. As her tears wet his haori, she was shocked to feel three wet drops wet the shoulder of her shirt. Three testimonies to the pain that Sesshomaru felt. That he couldn't show in for fear he would be ridiculed. He was a Demon Lord. Demon Lord's do not weep over lost human children.
And then the unspoken words were spoken.
“She loved me. I know this. She no longer loves me now, but the love she felt before was enough.”
As he inhaled deeply and pulled back slightly, she also moved back, enough to see his face. A sad smile greeted her, and though she could see no traces of the tears he had shed, his eyes glistened just a little bit more than usual. He nodded once and then released her. She took the hint and moved away, scooting across the ground to her original sitting place. When she looked back at Sesshomaru, his mask was back in place. But the mask was just a little bit more translucent. Letting her see just a little of the demon that lay beneath.
And for that she was grateful. As much as Rin's love had hurt to loose, it had also helped him gain something.
Understanding of pain.
