It had been a few weeks since Kagome’s “Mother” had told her she was adopted. Kagome still didn’t know what to think. She kept thinking back to that night.
Kagome was sitting against an ancient tree hidden in the Shikon Park. There was a rustling in the bushes behind her and she turned around.
“Kagome?! Is that you?” Inuyasha had appeared through the bushes. Kagome just started crying even more and turned around. The last thing she needed right now was Inuyasha pestering her.
Inuyasha crawled towards her and turned her around. “Kagome what’s wrong? Is there anything I can do?”
Kagome shook her head. Why was Inuyasha being so nice to her?
Suddenly, Inuyasha pulled her into a hug. At first Kagome was stiff in his arms but relaxed after he didn’t let go. She cried herself to sleep in his arms.
Inuyasha eventually noticed she had fallen asleep. He carefully picked her up bridal style so as not to wake her and carried her home.”
Kagome still didn’t know why Inuyasha had been so nice to her. Ever since that night, they had ignored each other completely.
Kagome was sitting in her history class. It was winter now. The ground was covered in snow and it had been blizzarding relentlessly for days. Today all of the buses had been cancelled but she had still had to go to school. Even though she only lived a few blocks away, Kagome had no idea how she would be getting home. The snow was almost covering the doors to the school and it looked like a lot of people would be stuck sleeping at the school.
“Students of Shikon High, unfortunately, due to these blizzards, if you wish to make it home, or even out of the school, leave now. There is too much snow to shovel but there is still some room to get out of the doors.”
“Are you going home Kagome?” Sango asked.
Kagome sighed, she couldn’t go home yet, she didn’t have a key! “No, I don’t have a key. Are you going home?”
Sango sighed as well; she also didn’t have a key. “No, I don’t have a key either. I was hoping that I could go to your house.”
Miroku had overheard this conversation and approached the two girls. “I hear neither of you can get into your houses. How about you come with Inuyasha and me? We could have a great time!” Miroku winked and reached over to Sango, his hand twitching.
“YOU PERVERT!” Sango yelled at the top of her lungs pushing him away. She was sick of him doing that repeatedly every day! Did he not get the message? She didn’t like to be groped!
“Sango,” Kagome said hesitantly not wanting to say this, “unless you have some other plan, we should go with Miroku. I for on don’t want to be stuck at the school all night.”
Sango sighed yet again. She knew Kagome was right but still she didn’t want to go with that hentai. But as far as she could tell there was nothing else they could do.
“Alright, if we must, but I blame you if Miroku gets knocked unconscious and doesn’t wake up.” Sango smiled mischievously while walking towards Miroku’s car with him and Kagome.
As they neared the car, Kagome noticed someone else sitting in the passenger seat. It was Inuyasha. Kagome was dreading being in a situation where he might bring up what happened. Her “Mother” had told her what he had done and she was very grateful but definitely did not want to talk about it, especially in front of her friends.
Inuyasha looked up and noticed them coming. His eyes widened when he say Kagome coming as well but he just looked back down and ignored them when they got in the car.
The drive to Miroku’s house was long and quiet. Kagome and Inuyasha felt too awkward to talk, Miroku was concentrating on the road and Sango was making squeaking sounds every time Miroku skidded on the ice.
Soon after they pulled into Miroku’s driveway. His house was a bungalow and had cute gardens out the front. There was a huge window that gave a great view of his TV from the street.
“Make yourselves at home,” Miroku said as they all walked in the door, “there’s lots of hot chocolate in the cupboard next to the fridge. I’m going to start a fire, be right back.”
Miroku walked into the living room while the rest of the gang headed for the kitchen. Inuyasha got out the hot chocolate and started making four mugs. The awkward silence between Inuyasha and Kagome stretched on while Sango looked between the two awkwardly stuck in the middle.
Sango finally got frustrated of sitting between the two while they kept glancing back and forth. “I think I’ll go help Miroku start the fire,” and Sango walked out of the room.
Inuyasha looked around nervously. Now that Sango and Miroku had left the room there was no reason for him not to say anything. He had been wondering since that night what was wrong but didn’t have the guts to ask her. The last thing he wanted was for her to get mad at him again and start up their stupid fight.
“Kagome…” Inuyasha started but he couldn’t bring himself to say it. She had been so distressed that night he found her and he didn’t want to see her that upset again.
‘What are you talking about Inuyasha.’ A little voice said inside Inuyasha’s head. ‘You hate this girl! She’s been rude and spiteful to you since she came here! You’re not going soft are you?’
Inuyasha contemplated what his head was saying. He wasn’t a nice person. He was the tough guy! So why did he care so much what was going on that made the girl so sad?!
While Inuyasha was thinking all of this over in his head, Kagome just stared at him and watched all the emotions pass across his face. She had never really looked too closely before. He had beautiful amber eyes but something about them made her sad. Something had obviously happened to him that had scarred him emotionally. Of course, she would probably never find out what that was.
“Kagome, what happened…that night when I found you…why were you so upset?” Inuyasha asked avoiding Kagome’s gaze.
“I…I had just found out…that I was adopted. I know it sounds stupid that I was so upset over just that but…nevermind, it doesn’t matter.”
At that moment Miroku walked into the room. “Hey! Are the hot chocolates ready yet? The fire’s going…is everything all right?” Kagome and Inuyasha were both just staring at the floor.
“Ya!” Kagome said putting on the happiest face she could muster. “Everything’s just fine! Hey I’ve got a great idea! Why don’t we all play a game! Come one!”
They all walked into the living room and sat down with their hot chocolates. Miroku’s house would definitely be considered cozy. The fireplace gave the room a warm glow and you could just sink right down into the couches. It was the coziest room any of them had ever been in.
“So what game should we play” Miroku piped up.
“Game?! What game! Since when are we playing a game! Nobody told me about a game!” Sango blurted out.
Kagome giggled, “Calm down Sango we’re just going to play a game…how about Monopoly. You got that Miroku?”
“You have got to be kidding me!” Inuyasha joined in, “Monopoly has got to be the worst game ever in existence! I refuse to play that game!”
Kagome glared at Inuyasha. “I vote Monopoly, who else?”
No one else put up his or her hands.
“Kagome,” Sango said, “ I’m sorry but I agree with Inuyasha. Monopoly is a horrible game.”
“Well, how about truth or dare?” Miroku smiled mischievously, “everyone loves that game!”
All three of the others at once screamed “NO!”
“Not everyone loves that game Miroku!” Inuyasha scolded his friend.
Miroku was getting cold glares from all of them. They knew why he wanted to play.
“I swear, one day, I will get you ALL to play.” Miroku looked around with shifty eyes and started rubbing his hands together.

A young Kagome sat staring into the distance. Screams of pain were echoing through the halls of the abandoned warehouse. Men wearing all black kept walking through the room carrying packages of stolen items. They had taken her parents to another room. They had no idea she was here. Her mother told her to hide and not make a single noise, no matter what she heard. Tears were pouring down her face now. She could hear her mother’s screaming ringing through the halls. She wanted to go to her. She wanted to help her mother but her mother had told her not to do that no matter what.
Kagome wasn’t the only child there though she was the only one hiding. There were a few other children huddled together in the middle of the room. They were tied and gagged. Kagome could here their sobs as well. They were all frightened to death. Kagome could here her name being called. Had they let her mother go? Why was she being called? She slowly crawled out from behind the stacks of crates. There was a young boy about her age standing near the doorway. She walked over to him and he told her to follow him. He led her through the warehouse, carefully avoiding all the men in black suits. She could see the exit. They were almost there! They started running. ‘Only a little further’ She kept telling herself. They were going make it! They reached for the handle but it wouldn’t budge. Someone came up behind them and grabbed them by the hair and dragged them back into the building. “How dare you try to escape,” The man said spitting out his words, “ for that, I’ll make you watch.” He pulled them towards the room all the screaming had been coming from. Kagome’s eyes welled up with tears again as she saw her mother and father lying on the floor bloody but luckily still alive. “Mommy!” Kagome screamed in anguish. “Mommy wake up!” she pulled from the man’s grip, ripping her hair and ran to her parents. “Mommy! Daddy! Wake up!”
“K...kagome? Why are you here! I told you to stay hidden!” her mother squeaked out, barely able to speak from being beaten so hard.
The man came and dragged her away from her parents. He threw her and the boy in the corner. “Your precious parents have betrayed me. Now they have to pay. And since I just love torturing young minds, you get to watch!
Kagome and the boy sat huddled in the corner after the man left the room. No one else was there except for her parents and two other people lying on the floor dead. The boy’s eyes were glazed over with tears. “We have to get out of here. We have to leave now.” He pulled Her towards the door and they were just about to leave when the man walked in with some men in black suits. He clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth disapprovingly. “I thought I made it clear that you are going to stay and watch! Now Sit!” He pushed both of the children hard against the wall. Kagome started to cry even harder than before. The young boy came over and hugged her. She hugged him back. The other two people on the floor were obviously his parents. He looked just like his father. Long flowing white hair and he had his mother’s amber eyes.
The Man that had dragged them into the room was advancing on her parents with a knife. Her parents were no longer lying on the floor but standing up defensively. Men surrounded them. One of the men came at her mother and knocked her down and her father was stabbed in the chest. He died instantly.
“Pity,” the evil man said, “I thought you would have put up more of a fight than that. Oh well, now there’s only one to torture.” The man got an evil glint in his eye. “Unless we take your pretty little daughter here!”
He pulled Kagome from the boy. Kagome cried out in pain as his claws scratched her arms. He put his knife to her side and carved a symbol in. It looked like the letter Z with two downward strokes through it. The man had cut deep and Kagome cried out in pain. She curled into a small ball while blood ran freely down her back. The man laughed evilly and turned to her mother. For the next while it was complete hell in that room. The men in black were enjoying torturing her mother so much that they turned to torturing her and the boy as well they carved the same symbol over and over again but none as deep as the one that man had made. Her mother was being cut into pieces before her eyes and there was absolutely nothing she could do. She felt completely and utterly helpless. Eventually they stopped and left the room at the man’s order. Everything was silent. Kagome’s mother was dead and she knew it. She turned her head towards where the boy was. He was even more cut up than she was. She slowly crawled over to him. He looked up at her but couldn’t keep his eyes open long. She laid her head down next to his and slowly blacked out. The last thing she heard was the sound of sirens off in the distance.
