InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Kagome and Inuyasha's First date in Feudal Japan ❯ Chapter 1 ( Chapter 1 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
The sun began to shine brightly setting over the hilltop. Two figures rose in front of the sunset, steadily climbing the hill. The figures were that of the beautiful Kagome and the half-demon Inuyasha. Inuyasha’s feet braised the grassy ground as he walked angrily away from Kagome. Obviously, he was upset about something, for he began to stomp the ground as he walked. Kagome stuck her head up in the air in disgust and did not look at Inuyasha.
“Why does he have to be so stubborn? I can not understand why he has to act so rude toward me. If he would just learn to listen to me instead of charging head on at everything he does, he would not get himself in the messes he normally does." She thought to herself.
They had just fought a demon and Inuyasha came close to getting killed. Kagome had run to his rescue, putting herself between the beast and he. Kagome was nearly hurt, but Inuyasha quickly reacted and shoved her out of the way. Inuyasha then quickly slay the demon and stormed off. Now he was still upset at her for almost getting killed, even though he knew it was his fault for trying to fight the demon without knowing anything about it. He was happy on the inside because he managed to get a jewel shard from it. He grasped the jewel shard in his hand and then looked back at Kagome. He realized that if it was not for Kagome, he would not have the jewel shard right now. Inuyasha knew that deep down inside, he cared for Kagome deeply, and he could never let her get hurt. He decided not to get angry with her, but pretend like he still was. He turned around and glared at Kagome. Kagome was starring at him with soft eyes. Even though she was upset at him, she could not help but care for him.
"Woman, why are you starring at me?" Inuyasha asked sharply. "Is something the matter with you."
Inuyasha ran closely up to her and waved his hand in front of her face. She did not move her eyes in any shape or fashion. She did not even blink or squint. Inuyasha began to walk backwards for Kagome had not stopped walking yet. Soon Kagome abruptly stopped as her body became pale and her eyes cold. She began to fall to the ground, stiff as a board, but Inuyasha broke her fall with his arms. He noticed that on the right side of her body, near her ribs, was a gash. The demon they fought earlier must had hit her on the side without either realizing. Blood had soaked her shirt and it was endanger of being infected. Inuyasha knew that if he didn’t take care of Kagome now, that she could become very sick or even possibly die with infection. He threw Kagome over his shoulder with her stomach pressing against the soft part of his shoulder. Her face lied on his back and her hair covering up her face. Inuyasha bent down closer to the ground and then pushed off with all his might. He soared high off the ground. He quickly looked around while in the air and noticed a town nearby. Inuyasha began to fall to the ground slowly, the wind, because of gravity, blowing his clothes making a rippled sound. He landed softly on the grassy ground, and with only one second of standing still, he began to sprint toward the town. The town was directly where the sun was setting (west). Inuyasha was moving so fast toward the town, that everything else was nothing but a blur. His arms brushed past a crop of sugarcane. Small cuts appeared on his arms and legs by brushing past the cane. Finally he was standing at the entrance of the small town. The town was very quiet and still. It seemed as if all the people in the town were afraid of him. Inuyasha looked at the people in disgust as they tried to hide behind objects that stood near by. Inuyasha then noticed that a little girl, around the age of six, was pulling on his left pant leg (side opposite of where Kagome was). Inuyasha looked down at her and angrily asked,
"What do you want?"
"Mr. Demon sir, please don’t attack our village. Can you just take her instead of us?" She said.
He noticed the little girl was pointing at Kagome.
"I didn’t kill her if that’s what you think. I need a place to stay little girl. I need to get this woman to feel better. Do you have any idea where I can go?"
The little girl responded with fear,
"Follow me Mr. Demon Sir."
Inuyasha followed and so did the eyes of the towns people. The little girl stopped in front of a huge Japanese mansion.
"The owners of the house was killed by a demon. No one ever comes here because every person that has, has been killed. You should be safe here though because you are so strong, and no one will bother you. Please accept this gift."
Inuyasha looked at her and figured it was some sort of trap set up by the towns people.
"Little girl, will you follow me. You said I was strong enough to go here, right? So you should have no fear of following me."
The little girl nodded. The towns people were in shock and wanted to save the girl for they thought she was in danger, but they were too afraid. As they entered, Inuyasha thought to himself,
"I can smell demon all in here. No wonder everyone has died here."
Inuyasha’s ears perked up as soon as he heard something wiz past him. He turned around and drew out his sword. He saw two glowing eyes staring at him. The figure was maybe three feet high. The figure moved closer to where it could be seen by a small beam of light shining through one of the paper thin walls. It was a tiger demon.
"I don’t even need my sword to get rid of this thing," he said as he stuck the sword back into it’s sheath.
Inuyasha drew back his left hand to punch the tiger, but the tiger ran up and tried to bite Inuyasha, but missed and bit Kagome. The teeth of the tiger sunk into Kagome and the moon was now high in the air. It was blood red and shining down into the room where they all stood. The little girl cowered in fear and stood stiff in shock. Her body was shaking terribly and her eyes widened with uttermost fear. Inuyasha became angry as he watched the demon sink his teeth into Kagome. He grabbed the tiger demon by the neck and threw it against the wall.
"Iron-Reever Soul-Stealer," Inuyasha shouted as his left hand struck marks on the tiger demon.
The tiger became afraid and retreated as it busted through one of the walls. Inuyasha and the town watched as the tiger ran in fear. Finally there was a poof of smoke seen as the tiger jumped. As the smoke cleared, there was no sign of the tiger.
"I’d like to see him come back here again so I can have his neck."
Inuyasha notices the town starring at him through the hole in the wall.
"Your town is safe now, so leave me alone."
He walks off into the darkness and disappears from the town’s view. The town people look at each other in shock. Some of the people gathered together in a group and begin discussing things, but Inuyasha is too far away to notice anything that was going on. Inuyasha was walking tip-toe in the house in case someone tried to follow him, he could easily disappear. He opened doors and slid them shut until he found the room of his choice. He finally found a room in the middle of the house where a soft mat lied in the middle of the room. The mat was huge and room enough for four people to lay on. It was meant to be a bed, because you could see the several soft Moishi pillows at the top end of the bed. This room was perfect because it was open and easy to work with when he needed room to work on her wounds. Inuyasha began to put his claws on her clothes, but then something hit him. He just realized he was going to take off Kagome’s clothes. It was so dark though, he could verily see anything anyways (even on the fact he had night vision). He took his claws off and decided to gently remove her clothes. He first took his hands and gently undid her ribbon. He placed the red ribbon on the floor beside her head (on the left). Her shirt top began to come undone and loosen up. His eyes were not paying attention to her breasts, even though they were starting to be revealed. His eyes were stuck on the wound. His eyes became gentle and sympathetic. Even though he knew exactly how to dress the wound, he could not allow himself to completely undress Kagome to do it. Inuyasha’s ears perked up as he heard a sound coming from outside. The door to the room slid open and a lantern glow was seen entering the doorway. It was the little girl again. She held the lantern in her right arm and held it above her head, but soon another figure appeared behind her. The figure was much taller and seemed to be a of a womanly shape. The figure stepped forward and it too was carrying a lantern. It was a woman and by the looks on the face, it seemed to be the child’s mother. She stared at Inuyasha and then at Kagome. Her eyes became wide with fear as she looked at Kagome’s wound. Inuyasha noticed her glance and began to speak saying,
"It is not as it looks like. I wouldn’t eat such a vile thing. She is has been hurt by a demon and has lost a lot of blood."
Inuyasha never liked being helped and had never asked for help before in his life, but now, he knew he had no other choice. He swallowed his pride begrudgingly and was about to ask for her aid, but instead she walked over to Kagome and knelt down beside her.
"I’ll take care of her. You can leave the room, I’ll call you back in when I’m done." The woman replied.
He walked outside and slammed the door shut. He paced the floors impatiently. He waited for about two minutes then decided to run outside and come back in a few minutes. He opened the doors to the outside court area, where the fountain and all the flowers of the house lied. This are was surrounded by walls and rooms. The area was in the middle of the house. The red moon shone brightly above and made the white flowers glow blood red. Inuyasha walked to the fountain that lied in the middle of the squared area and knelt down beside it. The fountain resembled a huge tree. The fountain was no taller than four feet high and was made out of stone, but it seemed as if though it was the real thing. Water poured from the stone figured tree and into the bowl of the fountain. Inuyasha lied his head near the water and began lapping the water like a dog. When he had quenched his thirst, he stood up and began walking back to the house. He looked up at the moon and began to marvel at it’s beauty.
"I wish you could stay like this all the time and never disappear" He thought to himself.
He walked up to the door and decided not to go on in and just wait till morning to go in. He lied against the paper like wall and bent down. His head hung close to his knees which were bent toward his chest. He fell asleep under the stars and moon. The woman had finished working on Kagome right when she woke up. Kagome’s eyes slowly opened. Her mind began to race with thoughts and she almost passed out. Her eyes then moved right toward the doorway, where the lady was now standing. Kagome was dripping with sweat. The demon bite was affecting her and making her feel sick. With the little bit of strength left she managed a weak,
"Don’t go."
The woman heard her loud and clear because everything was so quiet. The woman turned to Kagome’s direction leaving her right hand on the edge of the door. The woman’s eyes were sympathetic. She brushed her long black hair out her face and tried not to look into Kagome’s eyes, as if she was not worthy to. Kagome could feel that there was something covering her wound now. She thought that Inuyasha must had been mad at her for getting hurt like that. She wanted to see Inuyasha so bad and apologize for getting hurt like that and putting him in danger. Yet at the same time she was lost and confused and wondered why she was in this place. How did she end up here..? Then she almost panicked.
"What happened to Inuyasha? Where is he? Is he hurt?" She thought.
Tears began to form in her eyes
"Inuyasha." She said softly.
The woman came nearer to her and knelt down so Kagome could see her.
"Is Inuyasha the demon?" The woman asked.
Kagome looks at her in the eyes and gives her a slight yes.
"The demon saved our village by killing a tiger demon that has been haunting us for a long time. He was carrying you on your back when he came. He put you in here. I think he was trying to bandage you up. But when I came in he stopped. He looked embarrassed. I think he felt weird because he knew he had to undress you to heal your wounds. I took over so he wouldn’t have to. I did it because he protected my little girl.”
The woman could tell Kagome was worried about him.
“He’s okay. I think he went outside to cool off. The demon seemed concerned about you. He made imperative that I took care of you, by his looks anyway, not by words. I don’t know what happened, but you are lucky to live with wounds like that." The woman replied.
Kagome smiled, but it soon disappeared. She felt bad for causing Inuyasha trouble. The woman got back up and began to walk off.
"Get some sleep, you’ll need it young girl. I’ll wake you in the morning, and keep on eye on you to make sure no one messes with you. I owe it to the demon and I imagine I owe it to you. I don’t think the demon would had killed the Tiger demon if it wasn’t for you."
She slid the door behind her quietly. Kagome could hear her footsteps until the woman walked so far that the sound of her sandals hitting the ground disappeared. Kagome looked up. She fell asleep because she was too weak to stay awake. It wasn’t long before she woke again to see Inuyasha peering over her. Inuyasha quickly jumped up into the rafters above and put his arm against the wooden beam. Kagome didn’t hear a sound, so she figured she was dreaming. She closed her eyes and tried to fall asleep again. Inuyasha floated down with his pants slowing his fall. His feet softly landed on the wooden floor. He realized that Kagome was okay and decided to leave. As his hand was put on the door. Kagome opened her eyes. She realized Inuyasha was there. She didn’t say anything though. She knew how Inuyasha felt and how he would react if he knew she was awake realizing he was checking on her. She knew he’d be somewhat embarrassed and pretend he was angry with her. She smiled a quick smile and dozed off again. Inuyasha took one last look before he left. He smiled to himself hoping no one would see it. He truly cared for her, but he couldn’t let people realize it especially her. He turned his head and walked off again. He began wandering the halls for about an hour. He checked out all the rooms, and looked to see what was in them. He became bored and restless, so his attentions grew to being outside again. He walked out back into the garden. He jumped up into a tree in the northeast corner, close to Kagome’s room, and leaned against the trunk and began starring at the leaves of the tree.
"Just like this tree grows, so does my heart for Kagome."
He stops starring at the leaves and looks off in the distance.
"But like the tree, all things eventually die. If I can defeat Naraku, she can go home and everyone can leave me alone."
Though Inuyasha said this to himself, it wasn’t how he really felt. He knew he would miss Kagome a lot, and it was hard enough to see her go for three days when she had to go to school. He could not imagine how he would feel if she was gone any longer. In his mind, however, he knew he could not allow himself to think that. He knew he was a half demon and his path was else where. He knew she would have to go back home. He knew he could not allow himself to have feelings for her.
"She could not have feelings for a half-breed."
Inuyasha fell into a trance, and quickly went to sleep.
Morning soon came. Inuyasha woke up as soon as the sun began to rise over the horizon. He stood up and jumped down landing softly on the ground. Inuyasha began adjusting his eyes to the bright sunlight thst was beaming down on the earth. The smell of freshly grown flowers blew in the air. Inuyasha began to sneeze at the stench of the pollen in the air. However, his ability to adapt from being part animal/demon caused him to not be irritated by the huge amounts of pollen in the air. Soon the stench turned to a sweet smell that made him have an almost buzz from smelling the air. His face began to turn red as if he had drunken too much sake. He kept walking, half stumbling till he made it to the window-like door that led to the inside of the mansion. Before he got to put his hand on the door, he passed out. The smell was too strong for him. These flowers were unusual. The lady that had been taking care of Kagome walked out side to get some flowers to put in Kagome’s room in hopes of brightening it up. The lady slid open the door to find Inuyasha lying on the steps face down near the door. He was completely out of it. The lady put her hand over her mouth in shock. She, being a strong woman, picked Inuyasha upon her right shoulder and dragged him to a room far away from Kagome. She laid him down on the floor and took off to tend to making breakfast. The lady began fire up the wood to heat up the grill and went to the cabinets to pull out some cooking tools. When she began to oil the grill, someone mysteriously tapped her on the shoulder. The lady almost touched the grill with her hand from being frightened, but a soft hand grabbed it before it did. The lady slowly turned around to see whose hand it was. The hand was Kagome’s. Kagome was almost half naked in the clothes she wore. Bandages were rapped from the middle of her waist to the top of her breasts. She wore a robe that went down to 4 inches above the knee (which was really a coat for her) and it was tied around that bottom of her waist. The lady began to calm down and began to come curious to why Kagome had on so little clothing. She knew Kagome had no clothes under that for she had removed all of them to clean the blood stains. Before she got to ask Kagome about it, Kagome began to speak.
“I uh… um found this in the room I was staying in… I think it was your daughters, considering it doesn’t fit me very well, but I needed to put something on. I’m sorry I had to use it and stretch it out… but I had to talk to you.”
The woman was widely confused to why a girl in a condition as bad as hers, was walking around talking to her.
“First of all, um..” Kagome paused and twirled her finger in her hair nervously.
“can I um… borrow some of your clothes for a while? I am kind of missing mine, and I don’t want Inuyasha running around trying to… well you know.”
The lady laughed and nodded a yes.
“I’ll give you some of my clothes. Here follow me.”
Kagome followed contently.
“I use to live here as a servant for the owner of this mansion. I had my own little room. The owner was very nice to me and gave me money to buy lots of clothes. But the owner died because of the demon and I was forced to move out and live at another house.” Kagome began to have sympathy for the woman and wished she could help her more. The woman looked back and smiled, “But everything is okay now.” She opened the door to her quaint little room and pointed to a wardrobe cabinet lying in the middle of the back wall taking up a third of the length of the back wall. “You can have anything in there you like.” Kagome tried to protest to the lady, but before she could open her mouth the lady said, “It’s a gift for you and your demon…. I appreciate you helping my daughter and I out… and this town… I appreciate you helping them… even if they didn’t treat you two with respect.”
"Thank you miss… what is your name?"
The lady looked up and smiled contently,
"My name is Utada. I will help you in any way I can. I’ll leave and allow you to choose your clothes now."
Utada quietly shut the door behind her, tip toeing as she left. Kagome began to look through the clothes in the wardrobe using her finger tips to flip through the clothes. But it seemed as one stood out amongst the rest. Hanging on a handmade bamboo hangar was a kimono with an amazing design. The main color was white and many snow tigers were all around the fabric. It looked as if they were in a blizzard. The eyes of the tigers were a baby-blue/royal blue, making the kimono stand out. The koshi-himo, the large part of belt, was the same color as the tiger’s eyes, and the obi-jime, the braided cord to hold the large part of the belt on, was a silvery white. Both were found on the shelf under the kimonos. The kimonos were hanging on the bamboo pole between the two sides of the wardrobe. The hakama, or the pants, and nagajugan, underclothes, were the blue of the tiger’s eyes as well. Kagome lifted the kimono with the hangar off the pole and began looking at it with great admiration. She then put it back on the pole and thought about wearing it. She looked around for a mirror and found one on the opposite wall. She picked up the kimono again and put the hangar near her neck and looked into the mirror. She admired the work of the kimono and began to astonished on how well it would look on her. She then laid it softly and carefully on the bed beside her to not put a crease in the beautiful fabric. She let go of it and then began to take off her clothes one article at a time. While this was going on Inuyasha began to become conscious again. His ears perked up first listening for any sound of danger and becoming aware of senses. Inuyasha tried to sniff to see if anyone was around, but his nose was still messed up from the flowers from outside. His eyes opened and he realized he was laying down in one of the rooms. Utada slid open the door to his room and shut it behind her softly.
"Oh my, I didn’t realize you were awake. It seemed as though those flowers had some sort of affect on you and made you drowsy."
Inuyasha tried to get up, but he couldn’t move.
"What type of witchcraft flowers were those! I can’t move," he barked while struggling to get up.
"Don’t worry you’ll be able to move in a few minutes. Those flowers only spray that mist in the morning. The mist was to kill any lurking demons or at least most anyways. It has a strong scent and is really sweet to a human’s nose, but to a demon’s it is deadly. I am surprised you didn’t die."
Inuyasha put two and two together and realized why he still lived. He remembered that he smelled the sweet smell, which led to that fact that he being half demon kept him alive. He would had never thought being only a half-breed was useful.
"Well, it’s just an old ritual done by monks. I guess it doesn’t work though because that panther seemed to get around here pretty well."
Inuyasha almost began to question it, but he was too mad about the flowers that had paralyzed him. Finally his blood began to rush through his veins again and is body didn’t feel numb as it did before. Now he could move his fingers and slowly his whole body began to feel again and able to move. Inuyasha sat up and began to wiggle his fingers almost in a tapping matter, and then he clenched his claws into a fist. Utada began to back up against the door in fear.
"Don’t worry lady, I’m not going to kill you. I don’t like eating humans. Just relax."
Utada put her hand over her heart in a sigh of relief and began calming down. Inuyasha jumped to his feet and then looked over at Utada.
"How’s Kagome?"
"The girl is okay, she’s up getting some new clothes on."
"What is she up moving around for. She should be laying down that stupid girl."
Utada nodded in agreement.
"I told her she should be sleeping, but she insisted on getting up. Would you like something to eat? I am preparing food in the kitchen for you to eat and for the girl."
Inuyasha felt like saying something smart or act like he didn’t need her, but this time was different. It seemed as though Inuyasha became more mindful of other people.
"Lady, tha… tha."
He couldn’t say thank you though. It wasn’t in his system, however, Utada smiled and said,
“It should be done in a few minutes. Why don’t you wander around the house until I’m done. You should find a huge room filled with a several tables. I’ll set your food in there when I’m done. It shouldn’t be hard to find, but I figure you would like to explore the place. Take anything you like."
Inuyasha walked in front of her, opened the door and walked away into the next hallway. Utada then walked back towards the kitchen. When she looked in the expanse doorway, she found Kagome already dressed and making food. Utada was amazed that Kagome dressed herself properly. She figured Kagome would not know how to wear a kimono properly from the implications of the foreign clothes she wore (remember Kagome’s normal outfit was not in that time frame and it looked weird for her to wear those clothes). Kagome even had the tabi, the socks, and tatami, the flat foot sandals, on right. Kagome’s hair was put up in a bun with two white chopsticks to match her outfit. Kagome without looking up from her cutting up meat and preparing food asked,
"Are you sure you don’t mind me wearing these clothes. They are so nice."
Utada smiled and said,
"The clothes look splendid on you. You look very beautiful in a kimono."
Kagome smiled and said thank you to the Utada. Utada then rushed to the stove and said,
"Here let me finish, you are my guest, please go sit in the dining room in the north hall. I will finish. Shoo Shoo."
Kagome smiled and bowed to the lady in honor and Utada bowed back. Kagome walked off silently trying to get use to wearing these clothes. However, she loved the feel the clothes gave her. She felt so warm and calm. When she got to the north hall and at the entrance to the huge dining room, she found Inuyasha impatiently waiting at one of the 10 tables in the room. Inuyasha had one hand tapping on the table he was kneeling at and the other on his knee.
"Where’s my food!" he growled.
Kagome began to choke realizing Inuyasha had never seen her dressed up like this. She then began thinking,
"Why am I feeling this way? Do I have feelings for this guy? No. I can’t have feelings for a mean control freak like him, even if he did save my life."
However, her face became flushed and she began to turn around, but Inuyasha heard her steps. Without looking up, for his eyes were starring at the small, black wooden table, he asked sternly,
"What are you doing up? You have cuts on you and you’ve lost too much blood to be walking around."
"Inuyasha, you aren’t going to boss me around. I can take care of myself you know (Kagome becoming stubborn). I am fine."
Inuyasha looked up and saw Kagome. Kagome had forgotten about her being dressed up because of becoming upset at Inuyasha’s remarks. Soon she realized why Inuyasha’s eyes were fixated upon her so much. She began to blush some, but then quickly snapped by saying,
"What are you looking at?"
As she said that, she walked to the table laid her shoes near the pillow and kneeled down to the table’s level. Inuyasha was still staring at her. He was amazed at how beautiful Kagome was. He always thought of her as… he began thinking too much to himself and hated it. He became frustrated and went back to his normal sarcastic self.
"You don’t need to be taking that woman’s charity. You would had been fine."
"What a hypocrite, you sure are taking your food. Besides you think I’m going to go around naked around you?"
Inuyasha quickly blushed at the thought of it, and tried to come back with a smart reply but was at a loss for words. Kagome had noticed the blush and began to ponder about what he did.
"Did he really blush for me? He couldn’t had. I must had been seeing things."
Utada began coming in with bowls of food and lying them on the table.
"Enjoy your meal you two."
Kagome thanked the woman and then realized Inuyasha was rudely stuffing his face with food.
"Inuyasha, you could at least thank the woman for feeding you."
Inuyasha mumbled to himself and then managed,
"I like the food."
Kagome sighed in disbelief and then thanked the woman for Inuyasha’s behalf. The woman just smiled and said,
"As long as he enjoys it, that’s all that matters."
She walked off into the distance and left the two alone. In the midst of him eating, he stopped.
"Kagome…"
His tone was different than a few minutes earlier. Kagome took the chopsticks that she had in her mouth out and swallowed her food.
"What?"
"Nothing…"
"What do you mean nothing? Just finish it."
"Nothing! (he became irritated)"
"What is it Inuyasha? Wanted to say something smart (she was showing that she was annoyed by earlier)."
"I was just going to say you looked..."
Kagome then looked as Inuyasha’s tone dropped from irritated to an almost sensitive like voice. Kagome then became curious,
"Can you finish?"
Inuyasha wouldn’t look Kagome in the eyes but said,
"Beautiful. Are you happy now (sounding a little irritated)?"
Kagome was blushing uncontrollably and couldn’t speak. Inuyasha could’t look her in the face so he didn’t notice her doing so. There was an awkward silence that followed the comment until after a minute or so Kagome began laughing… giggling under her breath. Inuyasha looked up to see what she was giggling about.
"What are you laughing about?"
Inuyasha asked feeling she was laughing at his comment from earlier. Kagome got up from the table with a cloth in her hand. She then scrunched it up and walked over to Inuyasha. She bent down and dabbed it around his mouth softly.
"You had rice all over your face from eating so fast. It was kind of cute."
Inuyasha wasn’t expecting a comment like that and began to laugh at the randomness of it. They began laughing together filling their hearts with joy. But they soon stopped realizing they felt weird doing so with each other. They never had a good time like this with each other… at least not in this sense. Kagome went back to her seat and began eating again. After both had finished breakfast Inuyasha began to look tense and nervous as if something was the matter.
"Inuyasha… what’s the matter. You are fidgeting so much over there… so something must be bothering you."
"It’s nothing… I just was thinking."
"About what?"
"Well… I was wondering…"
"Yes (Kagome is wondering what he is up to)?"
"Would you like to go somewhere later tonight to eat and do something… with me?"
"(Kagome is blushing without realizing she is or why she is) You mean you want to go on a date with me?"
"What’s a date (Inuyasha is looking confused for he had never heard of that term before)?"
"(Kagome giggles) It’s when two people who like each other go somewhere to spend time with each other romantica… (Kagome pauses realizing what she just said… did he really want to do that… what will he think of her because she thought that?)"
"(Inuyasha gulps) Yes, I want to do that to um.. Make up… (it becomes hard for him to speak and swallow his pride) I want to make up for you getting hurt and me not being able to protect you."
Kagome is now looking at Inuyasha with kind eyes not even blinking. She couldn’t believe that Inuyasha was actually wanting to even think of her in that way. Did he really think of her that way? He was never this sensitive. Normally he would never consider others feelings or want to apologize, but this time he wanted to. She realized he meant it too. Inuyasha was about to come up with something smart to say, but before he got a chance Kagome said,
"(with eyes still not moving) I would love to.. I mean like to. That would be nice."
Inuyasha was shocked and realized she said yes. He had to review it twice. He almost asked what she said to verify it, but she really said yes. Did she really care for a half demon? Could she? He all pondered this and figured she couldn’t but was just being a weird girl as she usually was.
"I’ll meet you later when the sun sets outside of the mansion," Inuyasha said.
He then got up and walked off. Kagome was going to follow him, but she was still awestruck with what he did. Hours began to pass and Kagome spent her time thinking of if he really meant that, what he might do, and did he really care for her. She spent this time also fixing herself up as much as possible. After spending careful detail on how she looked and making sure everything was perfect to the last detail. She wanted to ask for Utada’s opinion, but she didn’t know where she was. As she began to walk down the hall with her arms in the opposing arm sleeves (her arms were crossed in the fabric near her waist), she began to become nervous with the upcoming night. She had no idea what was in store even though she thought of almost every possible situation. But finally the last situation came to her… a situation that startled her… She thought,
"What if he wants to have.. What if he wants me to do things to him? What if he wants to lay down with me? (she begins to worry and ask more questions) Surely he wouldn’t want to. I’m just human. Besides (she is calming down) he doesn’t think of me that way.. He loves Kikyo. He couldn’t ever look at me like that."
She felt a little sad about it but ignored her feelings. She came to the main entrance to the mansion… two double doors huge in mass made of iron and wood. She began to stare at them.
"This is the only thing that separates me from an unknown night of mystery and confusion with Inuyasha. Maybe he won’t show."
She opened one of the doors just enough to slide out. As she slid out, she shut the door behind her. She then looked down to see Inuyasha sitting on the steps talking to himself. Inuyasha’s ears quickly perked up sensing Kagome’s presence. He quickly stood and faced her. He was dazzled now. Kagome was wearing a different Kimono this time. It was even more radiant and outstanding than the last. Inuyasha started to become excited but controlled it…
"How can I become excited from a girl like her? I don’t understand…"
Kagome smiled as she began to walk down the stone steps… Her Kimono was red with autumn leaves (colors such as orange, brown, rust, amber) as the pattern. The Kimono was a furisode, a long-sleeved kimono, with an dark orange koshi-himo (larger part of obi = belt/sash), and a red obi-jime (cord that holds the obi together and kimono together) tied around that. Her tatami (flat-foot sandals) were red with a black throng. The tabi (Japanese socks) were the normal white. Her head was still in a bun but now in orange chopsticks. She wore orange eye shadow on her eyes and her cheeks were almost rosy but still looked normal. Her lips were a scarlet color (blood red) She was stunning in her clothes and make-up making Inuyasha feel as if maybe he did have feelings for her. He reached out his hand to grab hers. She took his hand and eased her down the last step so she wouldn’t trip on her kimono. She gently reached the floor and began to let go of his hand. But before she could, he began walking slowly. He let his grip be loosed and stood beside her. They walked holding hands. Kagome couldn’t believe he was holding was holding her hand… but soon it ended as he let go. She felt confused and bewildered to why he did that and then all of a sudden stopped. She kept walking beside him even so. The sun’s direction in they sky gave that it was around 8:00 (this is the autumn time there… it doesn’t get dark till 10:00). After walking he finally stopped at a house… with closer examination Kagome realized it was a restaurant. The restaurant had a sign hanging above the door saying "Romansu za Ishi" (for those that know Japanese… sorry if I didn’t do it right…I don’t know that much… and for you dummies that don’t know Japanese.. That basically means Romance the Stone). Kagome thought to herself, "Why is he taking me here? He must be out of his mind…”
"Kagome, I thought about taking you here. I even got reservations. Is this place alright, if not I’ll try to take you somewhere else."
Kagome’s eyes widened. She just saw him act kind of… well like he cared… like he wanted to make sure everything was perfect for her. He seemed nervous and edgy. But Kagome just could not understand why he was acting the way he was. She finally nodded a yes that this place would be ok, but what she really wanted to say was that it was perfect in every aspect, but she could not allow herself to do that. They walked in and stood waiting to be seated. The area was quiet and calm. As Kagome observed the room, she realized why it was so calm and quiet… there was no one at any of the tables.
"Oh, Inuyasha San, you are here. As ordered, I reserved the whole restaurant for you and your young lady."
Inuyasha seemed embarrassed of the man telling him out loud what he did. Kagome was awestruck that Inuyasha went to such great lengths to just taking her out to dinner.
"Please follow me, the waiter said."
Inuyasha allowed her to take lead then followed her. As soon as they go to the table area, they sat down on the pillows, Kagome sitting across from Inuyasha.
"I will bring you, your drink that you asked for momentarily."
Inuyasha nodded and then looked down at the table waiting for Kagome to say something. Kagome, however, was looking around the room. The area was dimly lit casting shadows on all objects. The black table they sat at was decorated with lily petals and cream colored candles. There were small bonsai plants surrounding the table they sat at. The cushions their legs were laid upon were also black, but had white lilies randomly placed as a design for the fabric. It was one of the most romantic places she had been to… something she thought could only be seen in her dreams. She then looked to Inuyasha, starring at him contently… trying to figure out what he was doing.
"Kagome, will this place be alright to eat?"
Kagome was shocked he even said what he did and replied with, "I did not expect anything like this at all." Inuyasha thought she meant what she said in a bad way and got up and said,
"Okay, if you do not like this place, we can leave."
"Inuyasha, Sit boy!"
Inuyasha hit the floor hard because of her command and the spell he had upon him. Finally he managed to get up… before he got to mutter off something smart, Kagome said,
"This place is amazing, and I do not understand why you brought me here… but I want to stay and eat here. Thank you Inuyasha."
Inuyasha got back into his seat without becoming upset. Inuyasha was going to ask her a question, but before he got a chance the waiter brought him his special drink he ordered. The drink bottle, which was a Sake bottle, was in a blue Kutani poetry bowl/bucket (a very expensive poetry made only for the emperors of that time period). Kagome was almost shocked realizing the expense that Inuyasha had to pay to even get the poetry, more-less anything else. But she knew Inuyasha had no money… she had no idea how he was able to pay for this… at all. The man brought matching Kutani cups and poured the Sake into the cups. As he poured it, Kagome began to observe the bottle. As soon as the man put the bottle back in the bucket and left, Inuyasha said,
"I went through the well one day to go to find you. Since you were in school, I had to wait. As impatient as I was, I snuck around town to find something to do. When I came to a wine storage facility, I stopped by out of my curiosity to see what they had. I never had wine but wanted to taste it sometime. I managed to pick up a bottle that dated back to this very exact time, and took it with me. As far as how I managed to bring it to this place… that I will not tell you. I heard it was a good year. I thought you might like it."
Kagome was shocked that he went through so much trouble to even get the bottle… even if it was just curiosity or maybe he made up the story… still he put some thought to it. This was not the Inuyasha she had ever known before in her life. He was different. He was acting confident around her… something he never does unless he is in his human form. Inuyasha began sniffing the air and she noticed as his personality changed as he did so.
"Kagome you don’t have to drink if you don’t want (he is being sarcastic)."
Without meaning to or thinking about it Kagome snapped on him,
"You are the one that offered it you stupid mutt."
Then at that second she realized she shouldn’t had called him a mutt. She remembered all the times he had been called a mutt in the past she had been with him and each time it would make him angry. She was afraid she was going to make the tension worse where they both would be fighting again like they always do, but instead she saw Inuyasha looking as if he was hurt deeply.
"So all I am to you is nothing but a mutt? I am nothing but a half breed am I?"
"Inuyasha no"
"I have been called a mutt since I was a child. Kids would always point at me and laugh at me for having dog ears or the fact I could smell things better than I could."
Then Kagome remembered Inuyasha telling her a similar story like this earlier on. She hated she had said those things to him now. He had always been picked on whether demon or human about him being a half-breed. He never fitted in anywhere he went. Before she could say anything, the waiter came by and dropped off the food. Kagome thought,
"He already ordered food before we came here. And wow it is steaming hot. It looks so good. But how did he know what food I like? This is some of my favorite food. But really how he could he know that?"
There were several types of food ranging from rice to sushi to many more exquisite foods. The waiter spoke saying,
"I hope you enjoy your food. (he puts a small gong on the table about 3 inches tall) Ring this if you need me for anything."
Kagome shakes her head while stuffing her face with food. Inuyasha laughs at the expense of Kagome stuffing her face and says,
"I have never seen anything eat like you. You eat like a cow!"
Inuyasha gets smacked in the back of the head by Kagome’s fist and there is a huge bruise that comes up from Inuyasha’s head. With a vein popping out of Kagome’s head (she’s angry) she says,
"Make another comment like that and I’ll make sure you get the S word several times."
Inuyasha begins to cower back as Kagome seems to be growing taller and bigger with fire wrapping around her body. But after a few seconds she goes back to stuffing her face. Inuyasha’s whelp on his head disappeared and he became calm.
"Well at least you are enjoying your food. If I had done anything like that… (mumbles) you would had said I had horrible table manners or something similar to that."
She looked up and realized she had said things like that before. She wipes her face with a table cloth and begins to eat more sophisticatedly. Inuyasha looks at her and says,
"I can tell you are hungry though, so do not worry about it. I won’t say anymore."
He picks up his utensils and begins to eat properly. Kagome begins to look in shock never realizing he knew how to eat properly. Right before Kagome said anything about it, Inuyasha sensed her shock and knew what it was about.
"You never knew I could act like a gentlemen did you? My mother taught me when I was little. My mother was very kind to the humans and demons. She always taught me the same principles."
"Inuyasha, it seems there are so many things that I do not know about you."
You could see Inuyasha getting defensive but before he said anything Kagome said,
"I am sorry for calling you a mutt earlier. I…”
She looks down with hurt not knowing what to say. He had been so different and kind to her today and even in the past.
"Eat your food woman before it gets cold."
Inuyasha began eating again and drinking his sake quietly. When they finished their meal, the waiter took away their food at the sound of the gong and brought out desert. Kagome got up from her seat to stretch real quick. As she did she enticed Inuyasha making him wince a little in his seat. As she sat up she noticed that her keen smell of sense had become stronger. She almost questioned it but she figured it was the smell of the food that made her nose tingle like it did due to the strong aroma. She sat down again and began eating.
"Inuyasha… thank you for taking me out to eat."
His response was different than she expected though for he said,
"Miroku talked to me the todayut what? How much he likes touching Sango’s butt?"
"No"
It was then Kagome realized he was serious and was not trying to make a joke.
"What did he have to say."
"We talked a lot actually. I found him with Sango in another town while I was busy doing something (the Inuyasha realizes with the information he has, he might find something out of Kagome) Well, it seemed they were getting along pretty well. It also seems that Miroku cares for Sango, but he’s too big of a perv… so she would probably never believe him. But he took this time to be with Sango hoping he can…well anyways… I managed to get him away from Sango awhile to talk about stuff dealing with Naraku… and Kikyo… and other things."
Kagome had forgotten all about Kikyo. She began to feel uncomfortable. Inuyasha could tell it bothered her.
"He also told me you cared a lot about me and I was too stupid to see that.."
All of a sudden Kagome stopped eating period and looked down at the table. She thought,
"Do I really care for him that much? Surely I don’t. Oh my gosh, do I? I mean what’s the point of me going to find the shikon jewel shards if I can not possibly care for him. He’s so rude and male chauvinistic toward me. But then again he has been a gentleman to me in the past by not looking at me naked as I took a bath and instead keeping watch over everything to protect me. Wait does he care for me? NO! What am I thinking I must be going crazy."
Inuyasha could tell she was frustrated without even looking at her. He could tell by her smell she gave off. He could always tell what she was feeling by the smell of her body. It would change with her mood. He could tell when she was afraid, hurt, or even excited. He knew he cared for her, but like he had said to Miroku earlier,
"I owe my life to Kikyo after what I did. But I… I care for Kagome. I want to be with her."
But he remembered Miroku saying,
"Do you care for Kagome because of who she is or because she is Kikyo’s reincarnated spirit?"
Inuyasha had been fighting that question even in the past, but tonight… he knew he really did care for Kagome for who she was. He wanted to be with her. He always hid it… or at least tried, but even a few minutes drove him wild when they were apart.
"Inuyasha… you still love Kikyo don’t you?"
Kagome stated as a question.
"… I don’t care for her like you think I do… Besides why do you care, it is not like you care for me (he becomes snappy feeling unconfident)."
Kagome began thinking,
"Oh my gosh, do I care for him? Why should I care if he likes Kikyo or not (thinking sarcastically)? (she feels her heart beat with her hands) Oh my gosh, I do care about him."
Strange emotions that she had felt before began to overcome her. Inuyasha looks at her after finishing his food.
"Inuyasha…"
"Kagome?"
"Inuyasha… I…”
She wanted to get close to him. Talk to him… and tell him how she felt… but she could not. How could he care for her if he still loved Kikyo. She tried to come up with reasons to not care for him or for her even being in the feudal era. All of a sudden she felt sick and began to feint. Inuyasha leapt up and caught her in his arms. She laid against his chest and her eyes were half open. Inuyasha’s heart began to beat faster and faster… he thought,
"Could I be turning into my demon form? No… because I do not crave blood. What is this I feel?"
Kagome could feel his heart beat and realized it was beating fast. She began smell a weird sent in the air something she had never smelled before in her life. The smell was pleasing but it seemed as if it came from Inuyasha. With a weak feeble cry she said,
"Inuyasha…"
He held her as tight as he could without hurting her. After a few moments she began to feel conscious again and rose up off him.
"I am sorry about that. I do not know what happened to me. I feel fine now."
"You scared me Kagome."
She looked up at him and realized that maybe he did care for her… like she had thought before. And after tonight she realized that he was so defensive and hard to let his feelings out because of the past he had went through. He had such low self-esteem. She understood his defensiveness… his smart remarks… and the fact that he really did care for her. She wanted to hold him and make him feel better… to show him that he really had a place and purpose. Kagome leaned against him again and held onto him tightly.
"Kagome are you feeling feint again? Are you alright (showing concern without realizing it)?"
"I am not feinting… I am completely alright."
Inuyasha began smelling the air and realized she was telling the truth. She pulled herself closer to him and held onto him as if she would die if she didn’t. Inuyasha had no idea what was going on, but he felt calm and pleased. He felt this way anytime she was in his arms. She then let go feeling embarrassed and looked away from him. He got up and walked away from the seats.
"It is time to go Kagome."
Kagome helped herself up and walked toward him. Inuyasha began feeling more confident and was wondering if she really did care for him… a half-breed. As they began walking out of the restaurant, he spoke,
"There will be a firework show later on tonight. Before then, I am taking you to a spa so you might relax and heal those wounds of yours. I am sure you are still hurting. I made sure the place would give you all the comfort you will need I will be outside watching to make sure no one comes around."
Kagome thought,
"Wow! He put a lot of thought into this. A firework show and a spa. This is like a dream in a book! But is he doing this just to keep me around for my ability to find the shikon jewel shards or is he doing this because…"
Her thoughts slipped because she became too confused and just nodded at what he said.
"Don’t you be a perv, like Miroku, and be starring at me. I mean it Inuyasha. Don’t get any bright ideas."
"You actually compare me to him. (he becomes upset) I can’t believe you Kagome."
"Sit boy. (he hit’s the ground hard leaving an impression in the ground) I will see you when my spa treatment is over."
By this time she was in front of the spa house where she was greeted by a kind older lady.
"Right this way.” She said as she pointed to the door.
"Hmpf, she’s got some nerve. I will get her later." Inuyasha said.
Inuyasha jumps up into a tree hovering above the spa house. He took his spot laying against the tree as one of his feet dangled off the side… his normal position he took while in any tree. He looked into the sunset and looked off hoping that it would not take long for her to finish her spa.
