Kagome's Curse

By Jennifer Whitman

May 21, 2004

Prologue:

A young girl kneels in a garden plot, the noon sun pounding down on to her back.

She sighs and brushes a hand covered in mud across her forehead, heedless of the dirty streak she leaves behind. Glancing up at the sun, she blows out another breath and resigns herself to the task at hand. Grimacing, she sticks her already filthy hands back into the ground and pats the dirt around another onion bulb.

"I hate gardening," she mumbles under her breath.

Now, at this point, some curious people might wonder why she was doing a task she so dreadfully hated. Was it because her family was poverty-stricken and couldn't afford a gardener? Or was Kagome a servant her self, forced to bend her will to people of higher power.

The answer is neither. Not only was Kagome not a servant, she was in fact the only daughter of the wealthiest man in the country. The Higurashi's names were known far and wide for their wealth and generosity, as well as for the reputation of the daughter. Now, no one knew exactly why Kagome Higurashi behaved as she did, but all respected her, and most were very kind.

What exactly was Kagome known for? She would do anything she was ordered to. Never a harsh word crossed her lips when an order was given, despite how horrendous some orders were. She simply nodded and moved off to do as she was compelled.

Many a rumor flew as to why she was the way she was, but only three people knew the truth; Kagome, her father, and a powerful miko who roamed the land.

Woe is the day that an unsuspecting stranger would stumble upon the secret of Kagome's curse, for many miserable events could ensue.

That is where this story takes us.

A long time ago in a place far far away, there lived a girl named Kagome Higurashi, who was cursed to follow any order given to her, and the man who discovered the infamous curse.

What would ensue after the discovery would go down in history, for greater things were never known after Inuyasha's discovery of Kagome.
