Author's note: Well the last chapter was good with the lime and lemon but I don't think they'll be one of those for awhile. Actually I don't even know why I added it, probably because it was needed and because I couldn't think of anything else to write.

The Birthday

“It'll be my birthday tomorrow, I'm so excited” Kagome cheered.

“Finally 20 summers old” Sesshomaru said. He felt old compared to her.

“I decided to surprise you with something” Sesshomaru said.

“With what?” Kagome asked.

“It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you” Sesshomaru smiled. Another rare moment for Kagome.

“Please tell me” Kagome begged.

“A ball for your birthday, the Eastern lands will be coming to celebrate your grand occasion” Sesshomaru said.

Kagome squealed in delight. “Oh how sweet of you” Kagome cooed. She hugged him.

`She seems so happy at the idea of this party'

“So did you tell the others?” Kagome asked.

“No need, you can if you want” Sesshomaru said.

“A tailor will be coming in a few hours to make dresses for you, Kagura, Sango and Rin” Sesshomaru told her. She was really happy about that. She wandered off to find Kashia.

“Oh baby, daddy is throwing me a party” She smiled down at her.

She found Kashia smiling back. She was ready to break the news. Everyone was outside playing.

“I have great news” Kagome announced.

“What?” Everyone asked.

“Sesshomaru is throwing me a party tomorrow night, for my birthday” Kagome smiled.

“That's great” Sango said. She was glad for Kagome.

“A tailor is coming to make all of us ladies, dresses for the evening” Kagome said. That caught the girls' attention.

“Even Rin?” Rin asked.

“Even you” Kagome answered.

“Oh well, we have a lot to plan, what about our hair, our shoes,” Kagura said. It had been awhile since Kagura has gotten dressed up.

“Don't worry, we can plan it out tonight” Kagome said. They all went back into the house to talk and plan.

“What did he get himself into?” Miroku said.

“I do not know” Inuyasha said.

“Who did he invite?” Miroku asked.

“I invited the eastern lands” Sesshomaru said.

“A small party, don't you think” Miroku commented.

“It's a birthday, not a social session” Sesshomaru said.

“So uh what about the guys, what are we to wear?” Miroku asked.

“Traditional wear, that way we don't have to waste money” Sesshomaru said. Inuyasha wasn't even listening.

`I know Kagome thought about me in her sleep that got her aroused and made her release herself in the bathroom, but why? When she claimed that our kiss was meaningless and in the heat of the moment, does she still care for me the way that I still care for her?'

“Inuyasha, try to pay attention” Sesshomaru nudged him.

“Paulina, did you hear? Kagome is throwing a birthday party tomorrow night, a grand dance of some sort and only the Eastern wolf tribe has been invited” Trevor told her.

“Then we strike tomorrow, during the day we'll walk to her area, we'll hide in a barrier and then steal Kashia” Paulina said. “What are we to do with the baby; it can not stay with us?” Trevor said.

“We hid it, and force Sesshomaru to here to retrieve it, once under my mind control, I'll break them up and get him for good” Paulina chuckled.

“Do not count on it, he is not that simple to get” Trevor said.

“Get out, I want to think more about it” Paulina insisted.

Trevor left.

“Lord Sesshomaru, It is an honor and a pleasure to be your personal tailor for Lady Kagome's ball” The tailor said. She bowed low to both of them.

“Lady Kagome would you like to go first?” She asked. Kagome nodded.

Kagome led them to an empty room. The tailor, named Erika, laid out the patterns on a table.

“Please, pick anything you like” She offered. Kagome went through all the colors, lovely lavender appealed to her.

“I want this color” Kagome said.

Erika took it from her. “Let me get your measurements” She said. Using a tape measure, she measured her waist, arms, legs and bust.

“IS there anything else you want on the dress?” Erika asked.

“A slit on the side and low cut” Kagome said.

“As you wish, Lady Kagome” Erika said. She scratched it down on a pad of paper. After she took all the ladies' measurements and patterns, she went to talk to Sesshomaru.

“Lord Sesshomaru, these dresses will be done later on tonight, they will be delivered tomorrow morning promptly” Erika said. And with that she left, back to the small village where a bunch of local villagers will make the dresses.

“Kagome would did you choose for your dress?” Sango asked.

“It's a surprise” Kagome smiled.

“Who's going to watch Kashia?” Kagura asked.

“Jaken is watching the pups” Sesshomaru said. Jaken groaned at the thought.

“So wench, do I have to go?” Inuyasha asked.

`Do not address Kagome as Wench'

`It's a little name I call her, back off fluffy'

“I would appreciate it if you did go” Kagome said.

`Why does Inuyasha not want to go to the party? I know I won't have a good time without him, but then I have Sesshomaru who went through a whole lotta trouble to throw it and then Kouga will be there'.

“Do not worry mate, the half-breed will be there” Sesshomaru reassured.

Kashia wailed from inside the crib. Kagome went over to get her.

“Haven't you gotten big” Kagome smiled. She couldn't help it. Kashia was stretching her arms and accidentally cut Kagome with her claws.

“Ow” Kagome said.

“What's wrong?” Sango asked.

“Kashia accidentally cut me” Kagome brushed it off. Kagome put her back in the crib. Kagome washed up at the hot spring.

“Ready for bed?” Sesshomaru asked.

“Yeah, it's been a long day” Kagome said, rubbing her eyes. Kagome lay to her side and Sesshomaru wrapped his arm around her.

`God, I wish Inuyasha would do this to me. I can't believe I am still thinking about Inuyasha, I love Sesshomaru, I mated with him, we have a beautiful daughter, I am so happy with him. I need to confess to him, that I may still have feelings for him'

Kagome tried to sit up in bed but Sesshomaru's arm made it difficult.

“Sess, let me up” Kagome whispered.

“What is it?” He asked.

“I need to tell you something, but you have to promise to hear me out and not get mad” She said.

“I promise, now tell me” He said. “I….I…. It's nothing” Kagome said.

`To tell him, is to ruin everything I've built with him and besides I can't have both of them'

“Please Kagome, just tell me” He said.

“It's nothing” She insisted.

`I know it has to do with him, but what is it?'

The next day fell by for them. Erika dropped off the dresses as promised, Kanna and Jaken spent most of the day making food for the party and decorating the entertainment hall. The girls got ready and the guys sat around talking.

“Wow Kagome, I love your dress” Sango exclaimed. It was wonderful, a lavender dress with a white rose attached to the belt in the middle, a slit coming knee high on the right. Kagome did her hair into a little ponytail.

“Thanks Sango, but what about yours” She said. Sango's was nice too, a creamy off white dress, stopped a little below the knee.

“What about Rin's” Rin added. Rin had a simple pink dress. Kagura's was really good though.

Copying one of the designs from Kagome's magazines, she had a spaghetti strap, low back, short and skimpy dress.

“Wow Kagura, Inuyasha will love your dress” Sango said.

“How much longer until the guests arrive?” Inuyasha asked.

“Another hour or so, Lord Inuyasha” Kanna answered.

“Be patient, little one” Sesshomaru teased.

“I caught a glimpse at one of the dresses the tailor brought this morning. IT was perfect, it was really short, and reminded me of a nightgown” Miroku said.

“Who's was it?” Inuyasha asked.

“I'm not sure” He answered.

“Gentlemen, we're ready” Kagome called downstairs. They all made their way to the edge of the staircase. Rin came down first. Shippo looked over at her.

“You look nice Rin” He said.

“Thanks” Rin blushed.

Sango was the next one to come down.

“Sango, this is a huge improvement from what you usually wear” Miroku teased. She stood over by him. His hand rubbed her rear.

Kagura eased downstairs. Miroku nudged Inuyasha.

“That's a wonderful dress” Miroku said. Sango stared at him along with Inuyasha. Kagura leaned up against him. Inuyasha lightly hugged Kagura.

“Come on Kagome, people will be here soon” Sango yelled. Kagome came downstairs. Inuyasha's jaw dropped along with Sesshomaru's.

“Mate, you look wonderful” Sesshomaru kissed her.

“Thanks” She smiled.

“Lady Kagome, it's so nice to see you again” Kouga said.

“Hi Kouga” Kagome said.

“Let me introduce you to Ayame, my mate” Kouga said.

`His Mate~ I never knew that they even… wow!~ that's great for him'

“It's nice to meet you” Kagome said. Ginta and Hakkaku followed close behind, a few more members from Ayame's tribe also came.

“I brought you something, a little gift since you're now 20 summers” Kouga said.

“You didn't have to” Kagome said. It was a bracelet.

“Oh Kouga, thanks” Kagome hugged him.

Both Inuyasha and Sesshomaru growled at him. Ayame wasn't thrilled either. He went off to join her.

“Sorry about that, I'm just so use to hugging him” Kagome said.

“Yeah well don't let it happen again” Inuyasha said.

“I could've kissed him” Kagome smiled. Inuyasha's eyes bugged out.

“The party just started, everyone is downstairs, except Jaken who is watching the brat, and I'm going in” Paulina whispered. She went through the secret passageways that started from yards away from the castle, it winds directly away from the main hall, Paulina had her scent masked just in case.

“May I have this dance?” Sesshomaru asked. Kagome took his hand and let him lead her out to the dance floor.

“How do you like the party so far?” He asked.

“It's wonderful, hours of fun and all my friends here” Kagome smiled.

“Can I cut in?” Inuyasha asked. Sesshomaru looked at him suspicious.

“Inuyasha, could you do I a favor and see if the kids are alright?” Kagome asked.

“Sure” Inuyasha said disappointed.

“I hate to send him away like that” Kagome said feeling guilty.

“You are just too sweet” Sesshomaru said.

Inuyasha walked to check on the brats. He stopped when he heard someone talking. “Little Kashia, your mommy will never see you again” Paulina tried to pick her up.

“Put her down” Inuyasha growled.

“Inuyasha, I wasn't expecting you” She said. Kashia was sniffling. Once Kashia was safe back in her crib, Paulina got ready to leave.

“Iron Reaper, Soul Stealer” Inuyasha yelled, cutting through Paulina's body. She didn't attempt to protect herself.

Kagome came upstairs.

“Inuyasha, how are the…. What happened?” Kagome yelled.

“Paulina tried to steal Kagome” Inuyasha said. Kagome went over to check on Kashia.

“She's fine, calm down” Inuyasha said.

`He saved her and he's acting like it's no big deal. That's why I love him! I don't love him; I meant I love that about him'

“Thank you so much Inuyasha” Kagome said.

“Go back to the party, it's for you” Inuyasha said.

“But what if I want to be here with you” Kagome said.

“Why would you want to be here with me?” Inuyasha questioned.

“I enjoy hanging out with you” Kagome admitted.

“Why, you love fluffy?” Inuyasha said. “But I love you too” Kagome confessed. Inuyasha's head shot over to look at her.

“I didn't mean it, It as a slip of the tongue” Kagome said.

“You did mean it” Inuyasha said.

“I can't cheat on Sesshomaru” Kagome said.

`She doesn't want me, she loves me but not more than Sesshomaru, it's a mistake for us to be together'

“I have to go” Inuyasha said.

`I scared him off, I can't believe it, I finally told him that I still feel for him and now he's gone, I refuse to try and make it work, after all that. Inuyasha, I wish you could know how I feel'

`She's been gone too long, better go check on them' Inuyasha sped past him. Sesshomaru smelt her salty tears.

“What happened?” Sesshomaru asked her.

“Paulina tried to kidnap Kashia but Inuyasha killed her” Kagome cried.

“So then why are you crying?” He demanded.

“I could have lost her” Kagome said.

`She is hiding something from me; she's been doing that a lot lately'

“Kagome, tell me the truth, what happened while Inuyasha was here” Sesshomaru said.

“Nothing” Kagome lied.

“Do not lie to me” Sesshomaru said, trying to stay calm.

“Can we just drop it for now?” Kagome asked. He didn't want to but he didn't have a choice.
