Kagome's Will
Chapter Seven
What happened?
Miroku looked at Sango as her tears freely fell.
`How did this happen?' he thought `How did he find out in the first place?'
“Miroku?” Miroku looked down at the girl his arms and met her gaze.
“How did this happen Sango? How did he find out?”
“I don't know, the concealment charm was supposed to hid the pregnancy from mortal eyes. It should've worked because the baby is part demon.”
* Flashback *
“What am I going to do Sango? How am I going to tell my father?”
“Kagome, come on. He will understand, InuYasha agreed to marry you, right? What should you care what your father thinks if InuYasha marked you as his mate?”
“My father only fears InuYasha because he threatened to kill him if he every hit me again. If he finds out while InuYasha is gone, then really there is no one to stop him. He's son of a priest for heavens sake! He'll see it?”
“Kagome?” Miroku interrupted. “If you are so worried about this, why did you allow InuYasha to mark you in the first place?"
Sango glared at Miroku. `Oy, if looks could kill.' He thought.
“I'm sure she could tell him `no' in the heat of the moment. Honestly Miroku.”
“I'll figure out something to keep the mark hidden while InuYasha's away.”
“Why not ask Sesshomaru?” Miroku suggested. “He may know a way. I'm sure he already knows that InuYasha marked you.”
“NO WAY! That would be too weird!” Kagome yelled.
“Well, you're going to have to something because I'm sure Kouga will see it no matter what, or smell it for sure.”
“What do you mean smell it?” Kagome looked at Sango puzzled.
“Well you see Kagome, when InuYasha marked you he claimed you at the same time.”
“I know that Miroku, what I don't know is why Kouga would be able to smell that InuYasha claimed me.”
“Well, lets just say that `what' he claimed you with-uh, well he-um. Sango, you're an expert when it comes to these things.”
“Why Miroku, I'm shocked that you would find a loss for words when it comes to explaining sex to someone.” Sango smirked. She watched as her friends both turned a nice shade of pink. “Oh come on Kagome, that's what it is isn't it?”
“Well, yeah but.”
“Ok, it goes like this. With demons there are two parts to a mating ceremony. However, the two fit closely together to make the bond between the to `agreeing' parties that the mating is mutual and can never be reversed.”
“Well InuYasha explained that part to me, he just never said anything about a smell.”
“Well, he probably didn't think about it.” Miroku said blankly looking up at the sky.
“Kagome, InuYasha marked you as his, at the same time he broke you virgin barrier right?” Kagome blushed, but nodded.
“Well, when he broke through your virginity, his scent was then transferred into your body, to make the scent stronger, he made his mark on your neck. When he did this, he more than likely did something to make himself bleed, like bite his tongue or something. When he licked the blood from your neck, his blood was transferred into yours and vice versa. Thus, your mark on his neck, his scent in your body.”
“Oh.” Kagome simply. She was looking at her feet, but Sango could see that her friends face had turned a deep crimson. Sango smiled.
“What about finding out about a concealment charm? I guess Sesshomaru had to get his from someone right?”
“Yeah, you're right. I'll just bet that he got it from Totosai.”
“Tootsie?” Miroku asked.
“No Miroku, To-to-sai. He's the family's sword smith and heirloom preserver. He takes care of Sesshomaru and InuYasha's inheritance. Tensaiga and Tetsaiga. I'm sure that we can get a concealment charm for Kagome.”
“Yes, but how?”
“We'll ask Rin.”
“Rin?” Sango and Miroku said in unison.
“Yeah, I'd rather Rin try to find out for me than have to tell InuYasha that I want to hide the mark or- his scent. You guys know how he is.”
Later…
“So, you guys finally did it, huh? I always knew you two would end up together. I wonder if dad knows yet?”
“RIN!” Sango practically screamed. “We came her e to see if you knew of a way to get Kagome a concealment charm.”
“Why would Kagome need a concealment charm?” Sango sighed exasperatedly.
“Be-cause Rin, she needs to hide her scent from `certain' other demons.”
“Why? If you made the choice to mate with InuYasha, you should flaunt your scent. Just to prove you're proud of him.”
“Rin, it's not like I'm not proud of him, its just that, well.”
“Rin, do you remember the reason InuYasha and Kagome fell for each other?”
“InuYasha became protective of her after her father beat her up, and threatened her father to his face that if he ever so much as “touched Kagome with the tip of his finger, he cut it off.' ”
“Right, her father. If he sees the mark while InuYasha is gone, then what's to stop him from beating her? Kagome would never admit to it unless InuYasha had seen the bruises.”
Rin looked. She knew that InuYasha would be away at least a month, and if Kagome's father did beat her up, the evidence of such an occurrence would be almost impossible to see, even for InuYasha.
“Alright, I'll get the number. Just to tell him that I had anything to do with this. I want to stay his favorite neice for a little while longer.”
Sango, Kagome and Miroku watched as she left the room.
An hour later she returned, with Sesshomaru at her heels. She walked to her friends and explained.
“Dad wouldn't let me call Totosai.”
“Kagome, you made this decision of your own free will?” Sesshomaru said in his normal cold tone.
“Yes.”
“Sesshomaru looked into her dark brown eyes. “Very well, come back tonight. I'll have a talisman ready for you.” With that, Sesshomaru left the room.
“A talisman?” The three said in unison.
“It's just a little stronger than a charm, it basically the same thing. Just, more powerful.” Rin explained. “Just come back tonight.
That night, Kagome and Sango stood out on the front porch looking up at the house. They slowly walked up to the door and reached for the doorbell. She rang it once and was surprised that it was opened immediately.
“Hello Kagome, Sango.”
“Hello Kagura.” The two girls said in unison.
“Come in, Sesshomaru is waiting in the study.”
“Thank you.”
Sango couldn't help but notice Kagome shake with nervousness as she followed Kagura. Who could blame her? Now he knew. What would he say? Not that it mattered. She loved InuYasha, and nothing his older half brother could say would be able to change that. Sango knew that Kagome wouldn't let anything break her love for InuYasha.
“It's all right Kagome. Go on in.”
“Can Sango come in?”
“Of course.”
“Thanks.”
Do you need anything?”
“No thanks Kagura, we're fine.”
“All right, just call me if you need anything.” Kagome nodded. She took a deep breath.
“You can do this Kagome.” She assured her friend. As she opened the door, she heard Kagome swallow hard. `Yeah, right.'
They walked in the richly decorated room. A fire blazed in the fireplace and its shadows danced across the room. Sesshomaru was staring at its intensity silently. “Come in, little sister.”
Kagome didn't move. Sango could tell that she was afraid of what the conversation would be. Sango also knew, that Kagome needed to protect herself. So she elbowed Kagome. “Go.” Sango whispered. Kagome nodded and moved closer to the chair that was furthest from Sesshomaru.
“You have nothing to fear.” Sesshomaru said gently. “Please Kagome, sit down.”
Kagome did as she was told. She sat on the chair furthest from Sesshomaru's desk and quietly waited for him to speak. Sango took a seat next to her friend and began the conversation.
“Sesshomaru, Kagome only wants to do this because InuYasha hasn't made any announcements as to their `mating', and she's afraid that her father may not like the idea.”
“Kagome, if this is true, then why don't you speak?”
Kagome looked at Sango who nodded.
“Sesshomaru, I love InuYasha. I'm definitely proud to be his mate. But, I don't think that he wants anyone to know. Also, my father is due back tomorrow. He will find out. I don't know how, but he always does. I want this only until InuYasha has made it public.”
“Kagome, InuYasha has chosen you as his mate. Do you know exactly what this means?”
Kagome nodded.
“It means, forever. I want forever with him. I could never be with anyone else.”
At this, Sesshomaru got up from his desk and walked over to the hearth. He removed a latch and swung the picture that hung over the fireplace away, revealing a small safe. After entering the combination, he opened the door and removed a small gold box with silver edges. He closed the safe and replaced the picture and secured the latch. He then walked to Kagome and knelt before her.
“This was meant for InuYasha's chosen. I guess that means you.” He smiled as he placed the small box in Kagome's hands. Sango watched as Sesshomaru rose and walked back to his desk. She then turned to Kagome who was opening the lid to the small box. Kagome gasped as she looked inside. Sango went to her friend's side. In the box, it was lined with red with silver designs throughout the fabric. On this fabric was a silver chain at the end of the chain was a fang.
“A fang?” Sango asked puzzled.
“Kagome, do you know what that is?”
Kagome looked up at Sesshomaru, tears falling from her eyes.
“It's InuYasha's fang.”
“Yes, this fang was etched with my father's own fang. It is inlaid with the purest silver; this is InuYasha's lifeline if you will. In the midst of the design of silver, a small ruby is at the tip of the fang. This represents your heart. Know this Kagome, once you put this on, it can never come off. If it does, then InuYasha's ability to feel your emotions, your pain, your need- your desire, will be compromised.”
“I thought the mark already did that?” Sango said in confusion. Kagome only started at the small fang in her hands.
“It is true, the mark is also a life line, how ever it is how you are able to live as long as he is. The mark was made in love, thus it can never be removed. You will have that until you die, and likewise with InuYasha. The mark itself has no real way of making him understand when you need him, in anyway.”
“How is that possible? Does he have one?”
“No, the ruby is a direct link to Kagome's heart. Inlaid with the purest silver, it lays among a hidden prayer.”
Kagome looked at the small fang. Sure enough, a small prayer was etched.
“To have the courage to love, to have the wisdom and understand, to protect and not fail. Thus, my life's promise to you.”
“It was my father's vow to my brother's mother. A vow he kept until he died. InuYasha's mother had it made when he was young. Now I know why.”
Kagome smiled as she lifted the chain to her neck. Before she could clasp it though, Sesshomaru took her hands.
“Remember Kagome, this is forever. If you should take this off, it could compromise everything.” Kagome looked him in the eye and nodded.
“I understand.” She said not moving her gaze from his eyes.
Sesshomaru nodded and clasped the necklace. Sango watched her friend hold the fang in her fingers for a minute then look up at her and then to Sesshomaru.
“Thank you Sesshomaru.”
“You're welcome. The talisman will protect you so long as you have it on. It will hide his scent as well as his mark from all eyes save his own, and yours of course.”
“Thank you so much.”
“I do this to protect you Kagome. You are InuYasha's heart. He would die without you.”
“Sesshomaru? Do you care for your brother that much?” a voice from behind Kagome sounded.
“Kagura, I've told you. He is important to me, as our father's wishes were to keep him from harm. I gave our father my word that I would look after him. So, I shall.”
Kagura smiled and Sango looked at her friend, who seemed lost in thought looking at the fang.
“Well, Kagome? Are you ready to go?” Kagome eyes met her own.
“Yes Sango. Thank you again Sesshomaru. I won't take it off I promise.”
“Thank you Kagome, I knew he'd choose you for his mate. I'm glad he did.”
Kagome smiled and she walked from the room.
“Taijyia.” Sango turned around to face Sesshomaru.
“Protect Kagome, InuYasha will be gone longer than expected.”
* End Flashback *
“Bastard, I'll bet that's when it all started.” Sango thought out loud.
“What was that Sango?” Sango looked at Miroku who had his arm around her shoulders.
“Oh, nothing.” Sango said coolly. “Hey Miroku, was Kagome wearing her talisman? Did you see? I can't remember.” Miroku looked down at the girl in his arms as he went over the scene in his head.
“No, I don't think she was, Sango. I would remember because of her mark. I remember seeing her mark, but not the talisman.”
