Kagome's Will

Chapter Twelve
A night to Remember, A day to Mourn

As Sesshomaru hung up his phone, he felt something leave the presence around him. Not wanting to be correct he waited. Soon, doctors were swarming in through the swinging doors to the halls of the ICU. He watched as Sango and Miroku came out, dodging the doctors. He knew by the sobbing girls face and the young mans own tears that it had happened. Kagome had died. He felt his daughter's own aura become filled with grief. He turned only to have her run into his open arms.

-*-*-*-*-
*InuYasha's Dream*

She was there, he could sense her, smell her but something was wrong. Her scent was smothered by her fear.

“Kagome!” He screamed her name but heard nothing in reply. “Kagome!”

“You are too late half breed.” A dark figure appeared from the shadows. “She is mine.”

“Who the hell are you?”

“You know me, very well. I've tried to take Kagome from you for a long time now. Before, I failed now though, now she is mine.”

“ANSWER ME!”

“InuYasha, go back to your Miko whore and raise your bastard children. Kagome will never forgive you for what you've done.”

“Maybe not, but then I don't deserve her forgiveness. I only wanted her love, in the end I was too stupid to see that I already had it.”

“InuYasha, are you admitting defeat?”

“I know who you are! You're-.”

“Yes, InuYasha. Kagome will die tonight unless she agrees to become mine. This is her choice.” The shadowed figure then produced a small orb of purple light. In the midst of this orb, InuYasha saw Kagome, broken and battered, clutching her stomach as she lay on the ground motionless.
“What the fuck did you do to her?”

“I released her of her promise to you. She is now, how you do say it? Fair game?”

What the fuck does that mean?”

“With her mark gone, she is free to love elsewhere. However, one link remains, your blood with in her veins. That alone prevents me from taking her.

“YOU STAY AWAY FROM HER! SHE IS MINE!” InuYasha screamed as he leapt at the dark figure, which quickly jumped out of the way.

“Tsk, tsk. You are married to another and about to become a father and yet you still think you own Kagome. I feel sorry for your Miko bitch.”

“FUCK YOU!”

“She said that to me not long ago.” Suddenly InuYasha heard a scream, it was so real and so filled with fear, yet when it reached him it was only a whisper.

“INUYASHA!”

“KAGOME!

*End Dream*

InuYasha sat up in bed, and ran to the bathroom and heaved. This time he was sick. He knew something was wrong and it was Kagome. He got up from his place at the toilet, left the bathroom and took one last look at the sleeping Kikyo. He went downstairs to his office, quickly dialing Kagome's number.

“Hello, you reached Kagome's Room! Leave your name and number and I'll call you back!” Said a cheery recorded voice. The wonderful sound filled his ears and flooded his heart.

“Hey Kags, its me. Just checking on you. Give me a call ok?” With that he hung up the phone and dialed another number. Yet another answering machine picked up his call.

“You've reached Sango Taijyia, please leave your name and number and I will get back to you A-S-A-P.” InuYasha hung up the phone, and dialed Miroku's number, this time he was successful.

-*-*-*-*-
Miroku held the sobbing girl in his arms tightly; afraid that if let go he'd loose her too. Kagome, their friend had fought to live and from the sounds of the doctors and nurse running back and forth was losing. He watched as Sesshomaru talked to his daughter, quietly reassuring her as Kagura held her, stroking her hair. Kagura had arrived shortly before Kagome's heart had stopped, while Sesshomaru was talking on the phone, trying to get information on the baby.
`She didn't deserve this.' Miroku thought bitterly. `All she ever did was love him and-. Damn you InuYasha!' Miroku was jerked from his thoughts as his cell phone rang. He looked at the screaming device and then at Sango who was looking at the phone.

“It's InuYasha.” Everyone around them became silent as the cell phone continued to ring.

“Answer it.” Sesshomaru said coldly.

“What do I say?”

“Go along with it.” Was the reply, Miroku nodded and answered the phone.

“Hello?”

“Miroku? Damn its good to hear your voice.”

“Yeah, long time no talk to buddy. What's up?”

“Well, some thing is wrong, it started last night and tonight I-.”

“What do you mean?”

“Is something going on with Kagome?”

“Why?”

“Is she there?”

“Can't say?”

“Can't say or won't?”

“Can't.”

“Why?” Miroku looked around for an excuse. His eyes laid on Sango.

“Sango.” Sango looked up at him, a deep crease crossed her fore head as she frowned.

“Fine, let me talk to her.”

“Not a good idea.”

“ARGH. WHY?” InuYasha growled impatiently.

“Look InuYasha, we don't know how Kagome is doing anymore than you do. All we can do is wait to see what we hear.” Just then, the hospital intercom paged one of its doctors to Kagome's room. Miroku had covered the phone to prevent InuYasha from hearing but wasn't quick enough.

“Where the hell are you?”

“Don't worry about it.”

“Damn it Miroku, you'd better tell me!”

“No, InuYasha I don't think I will.”

“Why the hell not?”

“Why do you want to know?”

“Because I need to know how Kagome is!”

“Why? Did you have a premonition of her or something?”

“Yes and no, our mark it-. It was bleeding last night and tonight, I felt like something with in me broke. Also, I had a dream and-.” Miroku knew that the moment Kagome had spoken InuYasha's name, she used the last of her energy to purify his demon blood that coursed through her veins.

“Just be grateful InuYasha, grateful she didn't take you with her.” With that he hung up the phone and turned it off.

“Why did you say that?” Sango asked sternly. “He'll definitely figure something is going on.”

“Sango, if they don't revive her, the child will die too. InuYasha is truly the only way that the baby can live on without its mother, however.”

“However what?”

“When Kagome died, did you find it odd that InuYasha called?”

“Yes, I thought he would've died with her. He must have found a way to break the bond.”

“No, Kagome did.”

“What?”

“Kagome has come from a long line of Priests and Priestesses, her blood is filled with spiritual power. Plus, her heart was pure even in death. She purified his blood, so when she died, he didn't die with her.”

“Oh Kagome.” Sango whispered.

“Foolish girl.” Sesshomaru cursed. “His blood could have kept her alive long enough for the child to survive on its own, and she could begin to heal. Now, with it gone, she has now way living. Those doctors won't be able to revive her. The child won't live but for a day with out its mother's help.”

“NO! DADDY DO SOMETHING!” Rin pleaded “DADDY SHE DOESN'T DESERVE TO DIE, NIETHER DOES THE BABY!”

“Rin.” Kagura called softly as she took her daughter in her arms again and gave Sesshomaru a cold glare. “Your father will do what he can.”

“We need InuYasha. His blood is the answer.”

“Why his blood? Why can't they use yours?”

“InuYasha's bond with Kagome still exists. It still lives.”

“Their child? It's so young though. Was it even developed enough to live? Kagura asked.

“Well, only one way to find out.”

-*-*-*-*-
Ayame finished her rounds in the delivery rooms, checking moms and babies. Now, she had Neonatal duty. From what she heard from the last duty nurse, there was a new one, born way too soon. From what they could tell, the child was fighting to live. They hadn't a name for the baby or an explanation as to why it had been born so soon. They did know that the small baby boy had nearly bled to death and an unknown force seemed to be feeding it energy and at the same time, the same energy was casting a protective barrier around the child. Ayame quietly made her rounds, checking vitals and diapers. The last baby she came to was the newest and by far the smallest. She looked at the small baby, who seemed to be breathing on his own. He was perfect all ten fingers and all ten toes. He had tiny claws at the end of his fingers and a full head of white hair.

“You're stubborn, huh sweetie?” She asked as she checked his diaper and temperature.
“That's good sweetie, you keep fighting. You want to live, you need to live.” The baby's heartbeat seemed to speed up for a minute then suddenly dropped and then resumes a normal pace. Ayame called the doctor on duty and told him of the child's condition, and what had just happened.

“So, it sped up, slowed way down and then went back to normal.”

“Yes, just wanted to let you know and be ready.”

“Ayame, I realize that you think he can make it, but really the odds are against him.”

“No, he'll make it.” With that she hung up the phone and looked at the baby sleeping in its incubator.

`Wait, what happened to the barrier?'

-*-*-*-*-

Sesshomaru, Kagura, Rin, Sango and Miroku all arrived on the ninth floor, all hoping the same thing.

“Do you think he made it dad?” Rin asked.

“We shall see.”

“If he did, do you think we should tell InuYasha?”

“I will tell InuYasha if I think he needs to know. Right now, the child is our priority.”

Kagome's Will

Chapter Thirteen
InuYasha Arrives

InuYasha drank down another glass of whiskey. He had tried time and time again to get hold of Kagome, Sango and Miroku but to no avail. Miroku's words echoed through his head.

“Be grateful she didn't take you with her.”

“WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN!”

“InuYasha?” Came a soft voice from the stairs. “InuYasha? What's going on?”

“Nothing.”

“InuYasha, you can tell me?”

“I don't know Kikyo. I need to be alone.”

“All right, let me know if you need me though ok?”

“Feh.”

After Kikyo left, InuYasha searched his soul for anything, a small hint of her. Finding nothing, he poured himself another glass.

`Fucking idiot, you should of known. Why the hell can't you remember?'

InuYasha then remembered Kikyo's doctor's appointment was tomorrow morning. He looked at his watch. `Well, this morning.' Miroku's words still echoed in his mind. `What the hell did he mean?'

InuYasha's thoughts were interrupted as the phone rang. He quickly answered it.

“InuYasha?”

“Rin?”

“Can you come to the hospital? I want you to see something.”

“Sure thing kiddo, I'm on my way. Where are you at?”

“Don't worry, I'll find you in the front entrance.”
InuYasha rushed to get ready to go. Kikyo watched him from behind her belly.

“InuYasha, where are you going?”

“I'm going to get Rin.”

“Rin? Is she ok?”

“I don't know. She's at the hospital.” Kikyo sat up.

“I'll come too.”

“Kikyo, no. You need to rest. You have a doctor's appointment in four hours and I don't need him to think I don't let you rest.”

“InuYasha, he wouldn't think that. He knows you won't touch me while I'm with child.”
InuYasha looked at her. He wouldn't touch her this was true, but it wasn't because she was with child. His heart still belong to Kagome. He couldn't touch Kikyo without wanting Kagome.

“No, just stay here and rest. I'll be back to take you to your appointment. If I'm not, I'll call Sesshomaru and have him send Jaken.”

“Why? Do you think this will take longer than four hours?”

“I don't know.” InuYasha's felt bad about lying, but he had to go to the hospital and see what was going on with Rin, maybe on the way back he'd stop at Kagome's. InuYasha pulled on his shoes grabbed a shirt and keys from the dresser.

“I'll be back Kikyo.” He said. To make it convincing, he gave a chaste kiss on her forehead, then headed out.

All the way to the hospital, Miroku's words played over and over. That and his mark, the feeling he had. Something was wrong, he'd find out. First, he had to see what Rin needed. Why she was at the hospital at five in the morning.

True to her word, as InuYasha parked he saw Rin outside staring up at the sky. As he neared, he could tell she had been crying. Before he got to her, Sesshomaru appeared behind her. Now InuYasha knew something was wrong. Sesshomaru waited for it to hit him, but it never did.

“Sesshomaru? What are you doing here?” he looked at Rin. “What's going on Rin?”

“Dad needs to talk to, then I want you to meet someone. Someone who needs your help.”
Rin turned and left. InuYasha smelled the scent of the young girls salty tears as she walked away.

“Sesshomaru, what is going on?”

“Lets walk.”

“Why the hell would I want to walk around at five in the fucking morning?”

“Fine then, don't walk. Go home to your bitch.”

“Fuck you.”

“Coming then?” InuYasha grunted, but followed.

“Why did she have me come all the way out here, if you're already here.”

“Rin has been here for the past two days trying to sort things out.”

“Two days? Sort things out?”

“Yes, one of her close friends died last night. She died giving life to her new son.”
“So, Rin called me down her for that?”

“Her son is a half demon. Like you, it's mortal state falls on the night of the new moon.”

“Tonight?”

“Yes, you see the child was born three months early, thus it is weak. To make matters worse, it was slowly bleeding to death before anyone knew it. When they did figure it out, it was nearly to late. Since the child will be mortal at sundown, its life expectancy isn't long.”

“So you want me to give my blood to another half demon.”

“No, Rin does. She believes her friend gave her life for this child for a reason. She wants this child to live.”

“Fine, is that who she wants me to meet?”

“Yes, although you'll meet him from the other side of a glass, I think you'll like him.”

“Feh.”

The two men walked back inside and took the elevator to the ninth floor. As the neared, he felt the aura behind the closed elevator doors. `Its thick was sadness and tears.'
He gasped when he saw who was all there.

“InuYasha?” Sango and Miroku asked in unison

“Sango, Miroku?”

“Why are you here?” Sango asked calmly.

“Rin.”

“Oh.” Again, Sango and Miroku said together.

“Where is the baby Rin?”

“RIN!”

“Its ok you guys. He's going to donate blood to save the baby, right Uncle InuYasha?”

“Right, show me where he is.”

Rin led him down a hallway and into a room that held a large window, looking into the Neonatal Intensive care. Rin pointed to the incubator closest to the window.

“That's him.” She said pointing to the white-haired baby.

“What's his name?”

“His mom died before she could name him.”

“He's so tiny. How did she die?”

“She was injured. She held on long enough to-.” Rin couldn't take it anymore. Fortunately, Sango came in behind her and finished.

“She died after the baby was safe. She protected until it she felt it was safe. Then she died.”

“That's terrible. Poor little guy, he looks strong though. Maybe with a little help, he can make it.”

“Uncle InuYasha, since your doing this for him, you can name him. The doctors wanted to give a name, so if he died, they'd have something to put on the headstone, or put on adoption papers if he were to live.”

“I think that should be the dad's job.”

“I agree.” Sango said. “However, the father is married to someone else. So, the child is alone in the world. Give him a name InuYasha.
