Chapter 26: LOTR arc. The Seduction of Sesshomaru

Kagome and Sesshomaru in the first age of middle-earth . . .

Note: Ch. 25 was a one-shot look at Inu-yasha and gang. I will be continuing Inu-yasha's quest to
find Naraku, but NOT now. I'm going to do this, the LOTR arc, and the next planet's story arc
before I return to Inu-yasha, at least.

(Forgot this note at the end of Ch 25. The well and Shippo's letter and why it went through. The
letter is dead . . . and dead things can go through the well. That's why they call it the Bone-eaters
well. Dead things vanish when placed it in, remember.)

Names: In the great battle, only very few of Morgoth's captains/soldiers are named, so I'm going
to have to find names for them. So . . in order to preserve as much of a Tolkien feel as possible, I
will be using names from various other stories. So, if you're a fanatic Tolkien fan and you
recognize that the name for, say, an Orc captain is from the Return of the King, I'm sorry, I'm
using the name, but nothing else.

For example: Balrogs. There are probably 6 or 7 of them, but only 1 is named. So, if I use a
Balrog and name it, I'm going to be making it up . . . the one name that is used, in the novel, is
Gothmog. I will, for the purposes of this story, assume that is a title, not a personal name.
Gothmog equals lord of the Balrogs.

Sesshomaru's eyes open. He coughs, as he thinks, 'That woman . . . letting those misshaped
human-like creatures get so close that we were gassed unconscious and captured. I don't know
exactly what I'm going to do to her, but she's going apologize for that mistake.'

He sits up and looks around. 'Headache.' He rubs his head. 'Probably from the gas.'

The light in the room is coming from a couple of burning torches. The walls next to and above
the torches are basically clean, so the room is probably not used all that often.

Sesshomaru is laying on a richly furnished classic western style bed. 'What type of bed is this?' is
his instantaneous thought. He can feel that he is nude, but he can see his clothes, laying draped at
the foot of the bed. His hands throw the silk blanket covering off him and he stands up.

'Hands?' Sesshomaru's eyebrows raise as he raises his arms and places his hands in front of his
face. "Both hands. How? Why?" He twists his restored arm and examines it. "It's mine. I haven't
felt like this since Inu-yasha cut my arm off. Even with Naraku's shard, the replacement arm
always felt strange." he whispers.

'Let's fully test it.' He wills the acid glands in his arm to function.

Nothing.
'Why?' he thinks, his eyes blink, he concentrates. 'My headache and this arm caused me to
become careless. Only my basic senses are working, none of my other powers are functioning,
and even my nose seems weakened. I haven't felt this powerless, since I was Rin's age. Why? How?'

He looks around the room. The furnishing is very different from want he is used to. There are
four large chairs and a table off in one corner. A large oaken chest is against one wall. The huge
elevated bed occupies most of the room. 'Very strange. The bed should roll up, so the room can
be used for other purposes during the day. Why would anyone want to sit in such high chairs?' he
thinks.

The walls of the room are bare granite stone, highlighted by tapestries. The tapestries are scenes
of warfare and destruction. They subject matter is the burning of a city and systemic mass-
murder of the women and children . . . 'Sloppy. Very poor organization, if this is accurate.' he
thinks as he compares the scene to other similar scenes he's seen.

There is only one stone door and no windows.

Sesshomaru quickly grabs his clothes and dresses. 'Even my speed is reduced. I'm just barely
faster than Kagome.'

"Tenseiga and Tokijin." He breathes as he puts on his two swords. Under them is Kagome's
sword. 'Why? Where is she?' he shakes his head, 'Think about that later.' He straps her sword
across his back. He places his hand on Tokijin's hilt. 'Powerless. Not only are my personal
powers blocked, but Tokijin's are as well.' He checks Tenseiga and Jaa Kalpa with the same
results. 'Powerful opponent, indeed.'

He rips out the stitches that held one sleeve closed. 'This feels right.' He rubs his arm.

In the chest, he finds Kagome's bag and some of the objects that were in it. The obvious high-
tech metal items are missing, as are her books. "No cube and shards. Retrieving them will be a
priority." he determines.

"What has happened to her?" He picks up her spare bra, which is in the chest. 'If she is hurt . . .
after I am finished with them, death will be a kindness. Which I may not grant.' he thinks, as his
eyes redden.

He shakes his head, 'Control.' He calms himself.

He approaches the door. There is a doorknob, shaped like a wolf head. He turns it. Nothing.

He snarls . . .

He shoves the door with his shoulder, nothing.

He rubs his shoulder. 'Even my healing abilities are gone.'
He picks up a chair and approaches the door, to smash the chair into the door. 'No.' he thinks,
and lowers the chair. "That is what my brother would do." He snarls at the door. He replaces the
chair under the table.

'I will think this through.' He begins to pace the room. 'Whoever did this is powerful. They are
not going to allow this door to be broken by a simple thrown chair.'

He rubs his arm. 'They replaced my arm. They are going to want something from me.' He nods.
'The arm is a bribe.'

He thinks, 'Why did he leave me my swords? Too make me think that they do not fear my
powers?' He shakes his head. 'NO. If that was the case, why seal my powers? Ahh . . . they fear
my power. So, they are going to want to come to some sort of agreement with me. The arm and
releasing my powers will be part of the agreement. The swords are here as token that I can trust them.'

He smiles. His fangs gleam. 'If they had just replaced the arm, I would have been grateful and
listened. But, sealing my power . . . I will have to think about that.'

As he paces around the room, his eyes lit upon the chest, he blinks. "Higurashi Kagome." he
whispers. 'Will they use her against me?' He licks his lips.

He raises his restored hand to his face and curls his fingers into a fist. 'I cannot allow that. Even
for this.' He begins to pace the room, his frustration mounts . . .

'Remember, when they arrive and their offer is made, no visible emotion is to be shown. Find out
what they did to her and where the cube is . . . those are my priorities.'

*************

On the roof of the tower of Tol-in-Gaurhoth . . . it is early morning . . .

It is in a beautiful setting: The tower is built on an island in the middle of the large river. The
river is in a huge valley between two massive mountain ranges. Each mountain range rises from
the floor of the valley into high, Himalayan-type mountains, with no foothills. It's like a knife
has cut the two mountain ranges apart, with the river flowing between them. Even though it is
full summer the tops of the mountains are still snow covered. The valley opens up to the south
and on the southern horizon a great forest stretches from horizon to horizon.

A tall, thin, blood-haired man, with a very handsome face, stands against the battlements as he
looks to the south. 'They are coming. I have seen it and I can feel it. Why is Morgoth ignoring
my reports?' Sauron thinks. 'The Valar are coming out of the west. The reports of their coming
are becoming more and more clear. They could be here as early as tomorrow, perhaps.' He nods.

'That flaming eye form that I've been experimenting with does work. It allows me to see things
that happen at a great distance. I'll still need to improve upon it, but it will be a useful form.' His
thin mouth twitches, 'Even the Orcs are beginning to call it the "Great Eye" and fear it. Not that
getting Orcs to fear anything is an accomplishment, of course.'

Sauron asks himself, "Are the two that were captured last night part of the Valar force?"

He stands against the battlements and begins to lightly tap it with his fingers, a concerned look
on his face as he mentally answers, 'No. They are not. But still . . ' He nods and thinks, 'How
does that Sesshomaru fit in? I used my powers to look into his mind, but his mental defenses
prevented me from looking everywhere in his mind. Also, his recent experiences have helped his
mental defenses.'

His brow furrows as he considers last night, 'Apparently that cube, which was with him, tried to
possess him, and while he fought it off, that has caused his short-term memories to become very
hard to understand.' He sighs, 'I will know how he arrived here. But his memories of the last few
weeks I could not see clearly. The cube, no doubt, is the cause. The extra-dimensional feel to it
is very strong, but I would like to know the details.' he considers as he speaks, "Plus those
strange and odd items, that were in the bag he was carrying. Those books are written in no
known language. And those pieces of crystal. I must learn about them. He, no doubt, picked
them up during his journey here. What memories I could read told me very little. I must get him
to explain them."

Sauron shakes his head, 'He reminds me too much of Huan, the hound the saved Beren.' His
right-leg gives Sauron a twinge, a phantom pain left over, even after 120 years, from that
horrible fight.

'But. He is not Huan and he does not have an Elvin princess, whose mother is my cousin, to help
him. Sesshomaru's only companion was a simple human girl.'

He frowns, 'But those powers, and the language I stole from his mind, and what memories I
could see . . . he is not from middle-earth.'

He shakes his head in sadness, 'A pity I cannot mind control him. But his mind is too powerful,
so, I will have to seduce him into helping me.' He looks to the south again, 'Is that dust on the
horizon?' He stares, 'No just clouds. The coming of the Valar is making me chase after shadows.'

"Having his power combined with mine would be very beneficial, and a surprise to my enemies.
Since I restored his arm, which should make him grateful, and I will promise to tell him about
the cube, between those two that should cause him to swear an oath of loyalty to me. And from
what I read from his memories, once I've received that oath of loyalty . . . he's mine." Sauron smiles.

"LLL . . . Lord." An Orc opens the door to the roof.

"Yes." Sauron replies without turning.

"A.. A message from the Dark Lord Morgoth, Lord." The Orc holds out a tube of parchment to Sauron.
Sauron turns and takes the parchment. "How was this delivered?" he demands.

"W.. With the regular mail, Lord. Nothing special." The Orc squeaks out.

"Leave." The Orc scurries into the darkness of the tower.

'A message, sent to me like I was an Orc captain. Doesn't Morgoth remember that I'm his strong
right-hand?' Sauron grumbles to himself as he opens the message.

The message:

Sauron,

I, Morgoth, have read your reports. You are wrong. The Valar are not on middle earth. They
remain, as they always will, out in the West. They are hiding on their island, frightened that I
will conquer them. The crimes of the Noldor elves are so great that the Valar will never come to
their aid.

You are being tricked by the Noldor, no doubt, by the sons of Feanor. They are disguising
themselves as Valar. You are to take your forces, leave your tower and meet them in battle. After
all the defeats that the Noldor have suffered at my hands, their forces are small and weak. Attack
them and defeat them.

Reply immediately stating when you leave your tower and how many of your forces are with you.

The Dark Lord Morgoth.

Sauron purses his lips in thought, 'I've known Morgoth since before the world was created . . I
turned away from Aule, the god of Smiths and Dwarves, and joined Morgoth. But now . . . to
follow this order would mean my destruction. He may not think so, but the Valar are coming and
my forces are powerless to hold this tower, much less stop them in open warfare.'

"Hmmm . . . " Sauron mumbles.

He concentrates and using his powers, tries to telepathically communicate with Morgoth.

Morgoth blocks the attempt.

Sauron begins to reach out to the other captains that follow Morgoth, starting with the Balrogs.

All refuse his attempts to communicate, except the youngest and weakest of the Balrogs: Moria.
(See authors' note below for more on the name.)

{Sauron} the Balrog states.

{Moria, old friend. Have you read my reports?}
{I have.}

{And?}

{Morgoth is my lord. I will not question his orders. Are you?}

{...}

{You had Beren in your grasp and he escaped. The Dark Lord will never forget or forgive that
you could have prevented one HIS Silmarils from being stolen.}

A pause . .

{What if I knew details that he did not?}

{Sauron, I have known you since before the creation of the world. Out of that old friendship, I
will say this, Gothmog and Scatha have orders to visit you. Whether they are to help you or to
drag you back to Angband in chains, I do not know.}

Moria cuts the telepathic link.

Sauron breathes deeply. 'The leader of the Balrogs and the Scatha, the dragon. Things are
coming to a head. Decisions will be made.'

He lets out his breath, 'And my choices are all bad. Turn against Morgoth and be crushed
between him and the Valar. Attack the Valar and be destroyed. Go to the dungeons of Angband
in chains to be destroyed.'

"LLLL . . . Lord Sauron," An Orc opens the door to the roof of the tower.

"Yes."

"The creature in the sealed room is awake."

'Ah, Sesshomaru is awake. His power will be useful. Perhaps, his knowledge and the cube might
create another option.' Sauron thinks.

'I created that room to hold powerful foes. Since torture didn't help me against Beren, I will see if
seduction and trickery will work against Sesshomaru.'

He smiles, 'And if he refuses, then I will order that new arm I gave him to strangle himself to
death. I did place controls in it.'

He follows the Orc down into the tower.
****************************

The door to the room opens.

Sesshomaru instantly stops his pacing and watches as four beings quickly enter the room.

In front of the group are three half-wolf and half-human hybrids. They have dark black fur and
wolfish heads and jaws. But they stand on two legs, not four, though, their legs are wolfish. The
arms are human-like, but their hands end in long claws. 'Werewolves, in hybrid form.' he assumes.

Behind them is a tall, thin, blood-haired man, with a very handsome face, and, strangely, perhaps
because of a spell, his appearance very pleasing to Sesshomaru.

'My powers! They're back!' Sesshomaru thinks. He begins to gather himself for an attack, but the
door closes and his powers vanish again.

He stares at the door. 'The room has sealed my powers. When that door is opened, my powers
return. Something to remember. But, I did not feel a surge from Tokijin, so I must assume that
they are sealed by something else.'

"Lord of the Western Lands, please, sit." Sauron waves to the chair. Sauron sits down at the table.

"This Sesshomaru will stand."

"Very well, that is your option."

Sauron waves to the three werewolves. "These are Draugluin, son of Draugluin, the lord of the
werewolves." The largest of the three nods. "With him are his younger brother, Ulfang, and his
cousin Freca." The other two nod.

The three werewolves whisper to each other. Sesshomaru does not understand the language,
although Sauron is speaking Japanese.

"I am Lord Sauron, the lord of this place."

Sesshomaru stares at all four, no _expression on his face. 'I am sure that this is not earth. So, how
does this Sauron know my language? My mind felt strange when I woke up. Mind reading? I
must assume that.'

"I do apologize for my servants actions last night, Lord of the Western lands. I am expecting an
attack soon, and they misunderstood my orders." A pause, but this receives no response from Sesshomaru.

"I have placed the captain of the Orcs in the dungeons below, and, you may punish him, anyway
you wish, for his mistake."

Sesshomaru allows a small grunt to emerge. "You wish something from this Sesshomaru." he
states, in his normal low-toned voice.

Sauron nods. "Yes, I do. As you have discovered, I have restored your missing arm. And I have
knowledge of the magical cube you brought with you here."

"You mentioned that your creatures were expecting an attack. You wish this Sesshomaru's help
against your opponent."

"Yes. I do."

"This room and its powers indicate that you do not trust this Sesshomaru."

"Would you trust someone that just appeared right next to your tower?"

Sesshomaru nods, acknowledging the truth of that statement.

"And to gain your trust?" Sesshomaru asks.

"I would require an oath from you, Lord of the Western Lands."

"Describe that oath."

"It's simple really. Just an oath to not attack me, obey my orders and to help me in battle against
my foes." Sauron smiles, "And the oath can be for a short period of time. A year perhaps? Which
is a very short period of time for a long-lived being like yourself."

'Once I've received the oath to obey me, I can have him do things that will strength his bonds to
me. And when the first oath's time runs out, it can be always be extended.' Sauron thinks.

"This oath is in return for restoring my arm and knowledge about the cube." Sesshomaru
speculates. "The cube, of course, I'm not going to see until the end of the oath."

Sauron nods. "Of course, the cube and my knowledge of the cube will be given at the end of the
oath's time period."

Sesshomaru nods. 'Expected. This is a trap. Why else the werewolves and this powerless room?
Once I've given him my oath, he will twist it, I'm sure. And no doubt, his combat orders will be
very dangerous. I am expendable to him.'

Sesshomaru begins to pace. "I assume that this is only chance to accept your generous offer."

Sauron nods.

"And this room will be sealed, should I refuse?" Sauron nods, again.

The Tower shakes, like an earthquake just occurred.
The three werewolves, who have been making sure that they are between Sesshomaru and
Sauron at all times like good bodyguards should, start to mutter along themselves. Sauron
replies, calming them.

Once things calm down, Sesshomaru turns to face Sauron and he asks, "There was a human
female with me. What happened to her?"

"Oh, her. She is dead." Sauron says in a negligent tone. "I have no use for human females and
my impression of you, indicated that you don't care for them either, so." He shrugs. "I gave her
to the Orcs for their pleasure and later their food."

Only Sesshomaru's iron control stops him from attacking Sauron instantly. He does flex his
fingers, trying to work out the stress. 'Will the Tenseiga work on her? And he said their food.
Does her body even exist, so it can be raised?'

'I do wish that she meant something to him. That would have given me a very sure hold over
him.' Sauron thinks, 'But when I was in his mind, all I could see was indifference or anger
toward all humans. And his feelings were mainly anger toward human females, so I gave her to
the Orcs as a reward.'

'The only way out of this room is to agree to his oath.' Sesshomaru stares at Sauron. 'I will kill
him. And to that, I must leave this room.'

"You indicted the duration of the oath was a year, perhaps?" Sesshomaru asks.

Sauron nods.

"So, it could be a lesser period of time."

Sauron nods, again.

"Say, a day." Sesshomaru speculates.

Sauron smiles, 'He is bargaining. He is mine. Once we agree on the terms, we'll swear the oath.'
he thinks.

"Perhaps six months."

"A week."

"A month."

"Two weeks."

Sauron shakes his head. "A month."
Sesshomaru takes a deep breath. 'That will give me time to determine what his weaknesses are.
Since he has bodyguards, he must have some. And then . . . I will attack him.' he pauses, 'That
oath? Doesn't matter, it was forced on me, so it can be ignored. It is only a means to an end. His
death. I will kill him for killing Kagome.'

"Very well, a month."

The Tower shakes again, a stronger shock this time.

Dust falls from the corners of the room. The three werewolves mutter between themselves again.

The door opens. An Orc enters, and the door quickly closes behind him. 'Surprised me, so I
didn't react in time.' Sesshomaru angrily thinks as he regrets the missed opportunity.

The orc is smoking. Not his clothes, his skin is smoking. Most of his clothes are missing. There
are second and third degree burns around his shoulders and head.

He falls to the floor and starts to report to Sauron. Sesshomaru does not understand the language.
But . . .

'I can smell Kagome's scent on him. And when he entered, I sensed her power around him. He
was close to her when she released her purifying powers, that's why he's smoking.' Sesshomaru
smiles. 'She's alive. Those shakes are from her power. I'm sure of it.'

"Lord of the Western Lands," Sauron states as he stands up. "I've got to investigate those rattles.
I will return shortly and I will accept your oath to me."

"Very well." Sesshomaru replies.

'When they leave the room, the door will open and my powers will return. I've got only seconds.'
he thinks.

Sesshomaru smiles, 'Plenty of time.'

The Orc opens the door, and Sauron follows him, with the three werewolf bodyguards between
him and Sesshomaru.

Sesshomaru's acid whip forms. He springs at Sauron, moving faster than he ever has before . .

He brushes aside the surprised werewolves . . .

His acid hand buries itself deep into Sauron's back, while his acid whip wraps around Sauron's
neck . . .

Sesshomaru vs. Sauron and the three most powerful werewolves on middle earth . . .
Doom . . .

The end chapter 26.

The Valar are the middle earth equivalent of the gods of good. Morgoth and Sauron are the equal

Authors' note: Moria. Hmmm, From what I can find out Moria is the name for the black chasm
or black pit in the city of Khazad-dum. And since that is where the Balrog came out of, I am
going to assume the chasm was named for the Balrog. (I could be wrong, but, hey, this is fan
fiction and I think it works.)
