Kiss of a Black Rose
Prologue
The sun was shining while the birds tweeted merrily in the cool summer breeze. The sky was a clear baby blue as the lush green trees swayed around the open flower field. The many exotic senses whipped playfully in the air as the wind carried them along. The many abnormal colors of the swaying flower petals dazzled in the eyes of one individual who sat alone in the beautiful scenery.
Smiling softly, her raven black hair floating behind her face as it danced in time with the wind, the teenage girl picked up a flower lying on the field. A black rose lay intertwined in her fingers as calculating mature cinnamon eyes looked about the peaceful field before her. Her brow furrowed on her smooth tan skin as she gazed warily about, eyes narrowing.
Sitting up, she pulled out her weapon that was once lying sheathed by her side. A long shiny metal sword glittered dangerously in the once peaceful sun as a dark cloud began to cover the beautiful field. She crouched into a fighting position, and if anyone saw her now, they would see a warrior.
Eye's narrowed, the strange woman-child waited in the open field that she stood out from. Her skintight black fighting suit with pink armor contrasted against the many exotic colors of the mystical flower field as she stood in the on-going breeze.
“Show yourself!” she shouted to the seemingly empty field, her sword still poised and ready for battle. Her deadly velvet voice carried across the wind, as she stayed ready for attack.
An amused chuckle entered her ears, causing her eyes to narrow into mere slits. Any wiser man would have turned and ran, but sadly, this was no man. Out of the shadows a figure dressed in a white baboon pellet stepped into the clearing.
“My, my Kagome, you sure have changed since are last meeting. It seems that the demon slayer Sango has trained you now.” The stranger said, gazing with hidden fear at the woman-child before him. Kagome's eyes narrowed.
“Naraku,” she whispered, her voice laced with frosty ice, “How dare you show your face to me after what you did to my family!” Kagome yelled, preparing to charge. Naraku let out another amused chuckle.
“My dear Kagome, has their death's saddened you so terribly?” Naraku taunted, looking straight into her eyes of fury. This only cased a truly evil smile to creep upon his hidden face. “Surely with them out of the picture, you don't need to worry about missing them in that strange era of yours now do you?”
“Bastard.” Kagome hissed, eyes blazing. She was about to lunge when a gruff voice stopped her in her tracks. “Naraku, I thought I smelled your foul scent!” the gruff voice shouted as a new figure made his way into the clearing followed by three others.
“Inu-Yasha,” Naraku stated, his attention turning to the silver-haired half demon before him. Inu-Yasha's golden orbs narrowed as he drew his sword causing it to transform. “I knew you would come.” Naraku continued, still staring at the hanyou before him.
Behind Inu-Yasha three people emerged. One was a woman with long black hair tied into a high ponytail wearing the same battle suit as Kagome. Her brown eyes were narrowed on the half-demon hiding in the baboon pellet as she held her large boomerang ready for battle. She was riding atop a flaming cream-colored neko youkai who was growling menacingly at Naraku. Sango the demon slayer stood ready for battle.
The next person was a man in dark purple robes with a golden staff. His black hair was tied into a small pigtail on the back of his head and his brown eyes were also narrowed on the fiendish monster before them. Prayer beads lying atop a cloth on his right arm stretching down to his hand were held at the ready as he waited for the battle to start. Miroku the perverted monk waited calmly in the flower field.
The last arrival was a young kit by the name of Shippo. He looked on with nervous aqua eyes at the scene unfolding before him; his reddish-orange hair tied into a small pigtail was flopping messily in the air.
“Did you expect anything less?” Inu-Yasha questioned, crouching into a fighting position. Naraku chuckled as he lunged towards him with his sword poised in the air for attack.
“Fool, do you really think you can defeat me that easily?” Naraku taunted when Inu-Yasha's attack missed. Laughing hysterically, Naraku transformed in a huge creature made of an unknown amount of rouge demons, his baboon pellet falling to the ground useless.
The group looked on with disgust at the creature before them. Naraku's glowing red eyes bore down on them with amusement as he pictured his plan inside his head. Smiling evilly, he launched his attack and the battle began.
Kagome jumped in order to dodge an attack made in her direction. To her dismay, she noticed that she was now separated from the rest of the group. `Great…' she thought annoyed as she dodged yet another attempted made upon her life by Naraku's assortment of demon parts. Using her sword, she cut the blasted demon part that dared to try and attack her while trying to make her way back towards the group.
Everyone had learned early that being separated in a fight against Naraku was a big mistake. Do to his twisted mind; Naraku targeted certain members of the group to destroy so the group's power would fall. In order to do this, he needed the rest of the group away from his target so he could pick them off without too much effort.
`So that means I'm his target this time, wonderful.' Kagome thought with evident distaste as she tried to circle around the multitude of demon parts in order to make it to her friends.
Shippo was still to young to be left alone in the fight, and she always got nervous when he came to battle. Granted, he was growing stronger and he was a demon, but he was still to weak to be of much help, even with the training he had been getting.
With this thought planted firmly in mind, Kagome began hacking away at the demon parts as she continued her pursuit to the other side where her friend lay. She knew that they were doing the same to get to her.
“Dammit all! Naraku is targeting Kagome this time!” Inu-Yasha yelled frustrated as he dodged a flying demon part heading for his heart. Using his sword he launched an attack against Naraku in hopes of causing some serious damage. The battle tactics they were using right now weren't getting them anywhere.
Sango was already badly wounded, and Miroku had accidentally sucked in poisonous wasps. He himself wasn't in any better shape; do to the many cuts he had received along with the many poundings his body was put through. Thing's were defiantly not looking good and he didn't even know if Kagome was still alive. The thought that she could be dead chilled him to the bone. Good thing he was at least to get Shippo away on Kilala before the real battle took place.
Growling in frustration when the body parts simply regenerated after his attack, Inu-Yasha began to swing madly at any part of Naraku he could get at. He needed to get to Kagome before it was to late, he couldn't lose her!
With that thought in mind, Inu-Yasha charged sword raised high. However, by doing so he left himself open for attack, and Naraku, seeing his chance, struck towards him.
Kagome had finally managed to make her way back to the group. What she seen made her eyes go wide with fright. Inu-Yasha, in his rage, had charged Naraku with his sword raised high leaving him wide open for a fatal attack. With a cry she ran towards him, “Inu-Yasha!!!”
Upon hearing his name, Inu-Yasha turned towards the direction. He saw Kagome running towards him, tears staining her angelic face. Confusion coursed through him until he felt it, the blow to his stomach that pieced his tough skin. With a cry he fell to the ground, panting heavily.
“Dammit!” Inu-Yasha cussed, clutching his wounded stomach with white knuckles. With bleary vision he watch Kagome continue running towards him, her condition wasn't really much better then anyone else.
Her right shoulder was wounded and bleeding, and her leg held a gash. Scrapes littered her body along with bruises. Still though, she wasn't as wounded as the others were, and for that he was grateful.
“Kagome, run away, leave…” Inu-Yasha mumbled to her weakly when she arrived by his side. Sango and Miroku were trying their best to keep Naraku at bay with their weapons despite their critical condition. Things were defiantly not looking good.
Pulling Inu-Yasha onto her lap, Kagome pleaded to him, “Inu-Yasha, I'm going to get you out of here, please hang on!” she whimpered, tears still pouring from her eyes. Inu-Yasha smiled weakly and rubbed some of the tears away, “Kagome, you know I hate it when you cry.” He spoke weakly, but with mirth. Kagome's eyes filled with more tears.
“Come on Inu-Yasha, we got to get you out of here!” she began to tug on his clothing, trying to get him to stand up. Kagome knew that she would not be strong enough to carry him, so she would need a little help from him in order to get him to safety.
“Kagome, hurry up! Me and Miroku can't do this for much longer!” Sango yelled at her, hoisting her boomerang back into the air with difficulty. Miroku stood beside her using his sacred scrolls to fend off demon parts that were close.
Kagome looked over to Inu-Yasha with frantic eyes, “Inu-Yasha, please, you must get up! We have to go!” she urged him with a panic stricken voice, tugging on his clothing again in an attempt to get him to move. Inu-Yasha just continued to smile weakly at her.
“Kagome, run, it's to late for all of us. Besides, he wants you, please run…” Inu-Yasha pleaded with her to go, he knew that if she did not, she would be killed just like the rest of them. That's right, it was obvious they were all going to die, nothing it seemed could prevent that.
Closing her eyes in an attempt to keep the ever-flowing tears at bay, Kagome faced Inu-Yasha. “I can't just leave you!” she shouted while shaking him slightly. She couldn't leave everyone, she just couldn't. If she did, they would all surely die!
“I wont!” Kagome continued, her eyes still closed. Sango and Miroku were knocked away and left unconscious by a tree. Now all that was left was Inu-Yasha and her.
“Run Kagome.” Inu-Yasha whispered before passing out, Kagome opened her eyes to stare at him. “Inu-Yasha?” she questioned timidly; no response greeted her. “Inu-Yasha!?” she asked a bit more urgent, shaking him slightly. “INU-YASHA!” Kagome screamed shaking him for all she was worth.
“My dear Kagome, is some bad memories resurfacing in your mind?” Naraku taunted as he towered over the young miko. Kagome glared at him.
“You will pay for this!” she yelled, standing up and abandoning Inu-Yasha's body. Getting into a battle stance she faced the creature before her as her miko powers swirled about her.
Naraku laugh, “Are you mad my dear Kagome?” he asked already knowing the answer. How he loved to taunt the woman-child before him, how he loved to make her feel pain. Ever since that vision he had a week ago, he had been plotting out ways to get rid of her. No one was going to defeat him if he could help it!
“Shut-up Naraku and battle me with what little honor you have!” she yelled at him, pointing her sword towards him. Naraku only smiled in response as he prepared to put his plan into action.
“I'm afraid Kagome, that are little meeting will have to be cut short. You see, you have somewhere to go.” Naraku stated mockingly while Kagome looked at him in confusion. `What is he talking about?'
Shaking off her thoughts she charged. Naraku remained unfazed as he waited for her to get closer to him. When she finally reached the right point, he laughed and opened his trump card.
“What the?!” Kagome shouted when a black void opened up below her, pulling her in with force. Naraku laughed and laughed, his laughter echoing inside her ears even as darkness consumed her vision. With an outstretched hand, Kagome uttered on last thing, “Inu-Yasha…”
