Chapter 1: A Blessing in Disguised?

Kagome was sitting near the lake, looking at the fishes swimming in the clear waters below. She was thinking. Her okaa-san always seems to like her twin sister better. Kagome was sick and tired of Kikyou being better, even though Kagome tried hard, she was always the shadow.

But… Kikyou is nice to her, never treating her like dirt beneath a shoe. Kikyou helped her with her miko studies whenever she did not understand something, Kikyou even shared her favourite bow for her to pass Kyuuka-miko-sama's archery test. She is being very mean to think about her Kikyou-onee-san like that…

A single tear made its way down her cheek. Mentally, she scolded herself for thinking such nasty things about her elder sister.

*~*~*
Kagome got up, it was getting dark and cloudy, and she did not want her okaa-san to worry about her. Hastily, she wiped away the few remaining tears and tear stains. She walked towards the village, only to see a battle field.

“No!!!” Six year old Kagome cried, as she saw her okaa-san and onee-san lying on the ground, a pool of blood around them. “Okaa-san, Wake up!!!”

“Ka…go…me, run” Was all her okaa-san could say before she collapsed to the ground.

Kagome was scared; her whole village was destroyed by youkai, and everybody she loved kept falling down, never to wake up again. She ran and ran, never wanting to go back. She dodged some of the fights, and ran as fast as her little legs could.

*~*~*
Kagome ran for what seemed like hours. Pushing her aching muscles forward, she ran into a pack of beast. They were growling and snarling at her, she tried to back away, but got backed up to a tree. The beasts clawed at her and the blood that surfaced only seemed to excite them more. She whimpered and backed away. Behind the beasts, she saw a man in a baboon pelt, he seems oddly happy to see her being injured.

“Help me please… Help…” Kagome raised her voice despite the bleeding wounds.

He snarled at the beast, and they disappeared into the forest. The man walked calmly towards her, and smiled wickedly. Kagome panicked and screamed. `I just got into more trouble…'

*~*~*
An eight year old Inuyasha was sitting in his tree, watching the beautiful blue sky. “Argh!!!!!!” a high pitched voiced screamed, Inuyasha immediately jumped up and sniffed. Blood, fear and miasma.' Naraku is near'. He jumped up any ran towards the source of the sound, ears trying to locate the sound.

“Get the hell away from her, baboon!!!” shouted Inuyasha, his eyes turning orange-red. He drew is his father's sword Tetsusaiga.

“And what are you going to do with that rusty blade Inuyasha?” sneered Naraku. He flung Inuyasha away like a fly. “Time for me to get what I want Kagome.”

“No… Who are you? What do you want?” a weak-knee Kagome asked. She was trembling; her tear streaked face betrayed what she tried to hide. In a flash, Naraku had her in arms length, strangling her. “Let...me…go!” Kagome clawed fruitlessly against his strong grip. `I am going to die…No… I must live.' As she fainted from the lack of oxygen, a bright flash of pink, purple and white light surrounded the clearing, and Naraku disappeared.

*~*~*
Inuyasha woke to the girl's cried. He was too sore to do anything, when he saw the bright flash of light; one word went through his mind, `shit'. He clenched his eyes shut, waiting for the pain, but it never came. Slowly, he opened his eyes, to find that a barrier of pink and purple surrounded him. He quickly scanned to area for Naraku, to find only the girl laying a heap on the ground, gold poured into orange-red eyes.

The pink, purple energy disappeared suddenly. He ran over to the girl, to find that she smelled faintly of death. He carried her bridal style, mindful of her injuries and ran towards his home, hoping that Kaede could revive her.

*~*~*
Through the journey, the smell of death grew stronger, and he worriedly set her down. Guided by instinct, he used his claw to cut both their wrist, giving her his blood. After transferring a healthy dose of blood, he licked both wounds closed and continued on his journey home.

*~*~*
Toga growled as he smelt death going pass, and beckoned his mate to follow. Outside Kaede's room, both Toga and Sakura saw their son pacing, a low rumble was imitated for him.

“What happened son?” asked Toga.

“I saw Naraku and he wanted to kill the girl off, but a powerful energy scared him off and I took her here.” Inuyasha growled out.

“That would explain the huge jolt of energy I felt earlier. If I felt it, than it must have been a miko. Inuyasha, are you hurt? Did the miko attack you? Let me look at you.” Cried Sakura.

She checked a grumbling Inuyasha head to toe. Satisfied that he had but little scratch on the wrist, she reprimanded that he should not go out alone again, and went to get dinner.

“Otou-san, if Naraku was after her village, do you think that she might be in danger?” questioned Inuyasha.

“I am afraid so.” sighed Toga.

“And I gave her some of my blood, because she was dying and lost too much blood, you know…” Inuyasha stated guiltily.

“She was dying, and you did WHAT?!?!”

Inuyasha pinned his ears to his head. “Gave her blood, and-”

“Toga-sama, you better come, the young lass is having a fever and is shaking badly.”

Toga and Inuyasha went into the room, it smelled strongly of death and herbs. Kagome was lying on a futon, wearing a sleeping kimono and an amber stone around her neck, but bandages were all over her body. She was whimpering and trying to curl up into a ball.

“Kuso, she is going to die.” Cursed Toga.

He hurriedly slit his wrist and gave her blood to drink. At first taste, she coughed and tried to push away the offending limb, but Toga was too strong, letting blood drip down her throat. Soon Kagome was licking and sucking like it was greatest thing she ever tasted.

Toga, Inuyasha and Kaede watched anxiously as her shaking stopped, and fell into a peaceful slumber. Toga gently took his hand away from her sleeping form and noticed that his wrist was already healed. He frowned at this; usually it would have healed by tonight, considering that the self-induced wound was deep.

“Why did thou give blood to the lass? Will her young body take it?” questioned Kaede completely missing the frown on his face.
.
“Inuyasha already gave her blood, so I gave her mine. Her body will be able to take it.”

“What will it do to the lass?”

“I am not sure…I only know that she will need it.” stated Toga. “Let her rest, and see what will happen. There is nothing that we can do, but hope for her will to live.” Toga ushered his son out and took him to the dinning hall to eat.

*~*~*
“How is she Koibito?” asked Sakura worriedly

“She will be fine, maybe a fever. Thanks to our son here, he gave here blood, so I gave here mine.” Toga said voice full of sarcasms.

“It was instinct ok?” Inuyasha's ears could just burry themselves in his head. Both parents were starring at him, and his ani raised a thin, elegant eyebrow.

Inuyasha ate silence, worried about the girl who was fighting for her life.
