Chapter Five

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha and its characters.

Kagome walked outside in the cool summer night to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere that the garden emitted at night. The garden was more of a miniature forest than a simple flower garden with its woodsy scent and tall leafy foliages that captured the moonlight only letting some small beams to pass through to light her way. Other than that, the garden at night was pretty dim. But for some weird reason, she felt very safe here.

"Oomph.etai." 'Okay, maybe not that safe.' Kagome thought as she tried to lift up her face which implanted itself on the ground when some protruding root slipped in front of her.

"You should be more careful in the dark, girl." Startled by the masculine voice, Kagome swiveled her head forward. To her dismay, she found herself staring into a pair of black shoes and blue tailored pants.

Kagome sweat dropped, and stared at the designer shoes. Feeling very foolish, she slowly propelled herself to get up letting her eyes drag away from the man's shoes and let them scale through his long torso, which was clothed in blue business suit. She stifled a gasp and fell in a sitting position as her ankle throbbed with pain.

"I see. Your ankle may have been sprained when you fell." He commented as he offered his hand to her. Kagome stared at his hand for a moment before she graciously accepted it, and eventually was pulled up in a standing position by his strong arms, careful not to put pressure on her swollen ankle. The girl avoided looking directly at him, probably through fear or embarrassment.

"Shouldn't you be sleeping by now?" He asked suddenly. Kagome looked up to him suddenly as if confused. His face was emotionless like a porcelain statue, but its beauty was inconceivable. And his voice was a true baritone with a hint of pride and arrogance to it. His hair was a model's dream. Long and flowing with a shine to it that makes him look ethereal. Good thing he wasn't a complete stranger to her since she have seen him a lot as a child and they even went to the same high school together. If he wasn't, she would have been turned into a bumbling idiot right about now.

"I don't have a curfew, Master Sesshoumaru. But I was to retire to my chambers after I finished my walk." She said slowly with her head bowed down slightly to hide her face from his intense scrutinizing eyes and to save her from the embarrassment. Nevertheless, he never took his hand away which seems to be the only thing keeping her up.

"I see. And your chambers are?" He asked. Kagome looked at him as if he had grown another head but he ignored it. Instead of waiting for an answer, he immediately carried her bridal style and started towards the mansion.

"What.what are you doing?!" Kagome practically yelled at him as her whole body tensed.

"Relax. We are going to the mansion to get you an ice pack Ms. Higurashi." He said not even looking down at her.

"But you don't have to carry me, really!" She said as she panicked a little. It's not that she's not grateful or anything that his helping her, it's just that she's a little intimidated being so close to the rumored icicle. He was rumored to be brutal and cold when dealing with business. But he's been like that for as long as she remembered. He always looked lonely and unfeeling even in high school, although he seems to be surrounded with a lot of people all the time, his fan club to put it bluntly. But even so, he always seemed gentlemanly.

"And how do you propose to get back to the mansion or even to your room with a sprained ankle?" He said as he raised one of his eyebrows at her.

"I.I don't know." She said finally relaxing a bit in his hold as she thought of something to say.

"Thank you, Master Sesshoumaru." She whispered a little as she lightly held on to his vest ever careful not to wrinkle it. He didn't say anything after that, and he trudged through the mini-forest and into the mansion. The only thing that she seems to recall at that moment was how warm he was.
