"Comrades"

Kagome lied awake in bed. She was on her side, trying to see patterns and designs on the textured wall. She thought back for a moment on the events that had happened previously. Shortly after Sesshomaru left, a man who called himself Kouga came down and showed herself, Sango and Miroku to their rooms and asked if they were hungry. The three of them ate and then Miroku and Sango talked for a long time. Kagome didn't listen though; she had been too intrigued by her new surroundings. After that Sango and Kagome went to their room and Miroku reluctantly went to his. Kagome assumed she had fallen asleep quickly because the last thing she remembered was waking up.

She absently gazed at the clock again, it was 5:20am. Kagome looked over to Sango's sleeping form. She looked so peaceful, so content in her worriless slumber. She stared for a moment more and then sat up and slipped out of bed. Kagome knew she should ask Sango if she was allowed to leave, but she couldn't bring herself to wake the sleeping woman.

She made her way out of the room silently and began down the hallway. Her thirst was really getting to her, and something (she wasn't quite sure what) was telling her to get some liquid… preferably water. Kagome thought her body and cravings were very odd, but supposedly all of this was normal. All of these thoughts made her wonder whoever classified what "normal" was.

Kagome slinked down hallways and up staircases, trying to find any water source. If this place was anything like where she used to be, she should be looking for a kitchen. Or at least a faucet.

She stopped suddenly when she saw Sesshomaru.

"Sesshomaru-san?" she said meekly. Kagome knew she was a guest in his home, so she was wary on how she went about things.

Sesshomaru's golden eyes met her hazel ones. It took a moment for him to register who this girl was, he doubted he would have recognized her if it weren't for that heavy perfume that still lingered on her from earlier. "Hai?"

"I am a bit thirsty. If it is not too much trouble, can you show me where I can get some water?" Kagome asked. She found herself scanning his appearance, because of the coat she had not been able to see him clearly before. He was quite a bit taller than she was; her head only reaching to his collarbone. He had two red-ish stripes on each cheek and a dark blue crescent moon on his forehead, between the two were a pair of deep gold eyes. His long, silvery-white hair reached down to the calves of his legs. Speaking of his legs… they were they only thing on him that was clothed. He was only wearing slightly baggy black jeans. His well-chiseled, muscular chest was bare; his buff arms were also revealed. Oddly enough, Kagome felt herself flush a bit at this.

Sesshomaru only nodded and motioned for her to follow him. He couldn't believe it. The girl looked… human. She wasn't android, even though they almost always looked human, and yet… she didn't smell like youkai either. He could smell her scent now that the perfume had faded. Her scent triggered something that hadn't been accessed in a very long time in Sesshomaru's memory. Could it be that she smelled like a human as well? It had been so long since he had smelled one, he couldn't be sure. But there was no other explanation.

Kagome felt Sesshomaru's eyes watching her as she drank her glass of water. She was sitting at a table while he was leaning against a doorframe. His gaze made her nervous, it seemed like he was studying her… she had the odd feeling that he was trying to rekindle some forgotten memory. Why she thought this she didn't know.

"Why are you up this early?" Sesshomaru finally spoke, making Kagome jump.

"At first I could not sleep, and then I became thirsty…" She was going to continue but she found that she had noting else to say. There was a pregnant pause before she spoke again, "What about you, Sesshomaru-san?"

"I'm always awake at this hour," was all that the inu youkai responded with. It was true though. Being youkai, he didn't need much sleep so he woke up around 5am everyday. Unless he had stayed up that late, which was always a possibility, then he would wake about three hours from whenever he had fallen asleep.

"Oh," Kagome replied with a slight nod. "Miroku-san said that you and your two friends may help us, is that true, Sesshomaru-san?" She looked up at him with her innocent hazel eyes; a questioning look adorned her youthful features.

Sesshomaru found this girl stranger by the minute. Now it seemed as if she trusted him when they had only just met. "Hai," he answered. Whether Inuyasha liked it or not they would be going through with this it could be a very lucky break for them, even if those people were after him. But, on second thought, if Inuyasha wouldn't comply then it would just be more money for Kouga and himself. Either way was just fine to him.

"What's your last name?" Sesshomaru's deep voice asked after a prolonged pause.

Kagome was once again startled by the sudden break in the silence. She thought for a moment and realized she didn't know the answer to his question. She had been told of her first name, Kagome, but her last and middle name were a mystery to her still, "I do not know."

"Nani?" the silver-haired youkai was puzzled. How could she not know her last name?

"I said I do not know," She repeated, "I don't believe I have one."

Sesshomaru didn't reply to her statement this time. He had wanted her last name so he could possibly do some research and see just how wealthy this girl was. He contemplated on just how someone couldn't know their last name, it just didn't make sense.

He temporarily gave up on his puzzle; the pieces would fit together later. Sesshomaru went back into the kitchen and emerged again with a lit cigarette in his mouth.

"Smoking is not good for your health," Kagome stated as she looked back up to him. Sesshomaru raised a thin brow at her but said nothing in response.

It was around nine am before Miroku and Sango woke up. They found Kagome sitting on her bed reading the tag to the coat she had been wearing the previous day.

"Kagome-chan," Sango walked up to the girl, "Why are you reading the coat's tag?" She asked in puzzlement.

"I was bored," She stated bluntly as she looked up to the one of her two assigned guardians. "Sesshomaru-san is already awake; he said he would be getting Kouga and Inuyasha out of bed very soon as well."

"Ok," Miroku replied. "How long have you been wake?" he questioned curiously.

"Since 5:20am." Kagome answered casually, as if everyone normally woke up at that hour.

"Oh…" Miroku blinked at the girl, she was definitely a strange girl. But what could he expect? She had only been alive for a few days.

Kagome slid off of her bed and made her way to the door, not thinking to tell Sango and Miroku where she was going. She wandered down the hallways until she found the kitchen/dinning room again. Before she went back to `her' room Sesshomaru had told her to tell him when Sango and Miroku had woken up. Kagome peered into the kitchen and found Kouga and Inuyasha sitting at the cluttered table. Kouga looked as if he would fall right back to sleep, just using the table as a pillow, while Inuyasha was greedily eating a bowl of ramen. (A/N: Yes, ramen for breakfast; I have it all the time.)

"Excuse me? But, could either of you tell me where Sesshomaru-san is?" Kagome asked, startling both of the youkai.

"Yeah," Kouga said mid-yawn, "I think he's in his room. It's around the corner and the fourth door down." He pointed with a clawed finger toward a doorway at the far end of the kitchen as he said this.

"Arigatou," Kagome replied with a nod as she walked past the two and made her way to Sesshomaru's room. She counted the doors after she turned the corner and stopped at the fourth. The raven-haired girl stared at the door for a moment before she knocked on it lightly.

"Sesshomaru-san?" she called out softly.

Kagome quietly waited for an answer and was promptly responded with a `come in'. She opened the door slowly and stepped inside the room. It was surprisingly immaculate compared to the rest of the place which had countless items scattered everywhere. She found Sesshomaru out on the balcony, the sliding-glass door still open.

"What is it?" he asked without looking at her.

Kagome strode over to the balcony as well before she answered, "You told me to tell you when Sango and Miroku were awake." She looked at him, once again waiting for her reply. He seemed to be staring off into nothing, his gaze off to the right, still not facing her. Kagome looked down and saw a few people walking the street below, their perspective of the world seemingly carefree.

"We're going to be leaving soon, make sure you're ready. Wear that coat again," Sesshomaru stated simply, not making any remarks to what she had just said. He didn't want anyone to see what she looked like, if she indeed was human, he wouldn't want the fact to get around. The coat, of course, wouldn't hide her scent but it would at least help a little.

"Hai," Kagome said quietly as she turned to leave. She was going to ask where they were going but she didn't know if he would even answer her this time. She opted to go find Miroku and Sango, who were still probably in their room, and tell them that they needed to be ready to leave shortly.

She had a look that indicated she was deep in thought as she headed back to the room. She was truly perplexed. Everything seemed so new to her, even though she somehow knew what nearly everything was, but she had no memory of seeing or touching these things ever before. She felt as if she should be a very young child, being new to the world, experiencing everything for the first time. But, he features were that of a young woman. She didn't know if she wanted to tell Sango (or Miroku) of her problems and questions, but the answers not being there were annoying her. Another thing on her mind was that she only had the memory of a few days' time, what gone on in her life before that? There had to be something previously, didn't there?

A/N: I hope you liked this chapter. I found it a bit uneventful myself, but that's just me. There will be more going on in the next chapter ^_^.

Also, just incase anyone is wondering how an android (i.e. Sango and Miroku) sleep, here's your answer. They don't really physically sleep, since they're machines, robots, whatever you want to call them. It's similar to when you shut down your computer; they're in a dormant state, very similar to slumber. Anyway, I thought I'd clear that up ^_^.
