InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Lavender and Roses ❯ A Deal With the Devil ( Prologue )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Hiya everyone! This was a story a friend of mine wanted me to write after I had told her of a dream I had that was something like this story. She wanted me to write it for her, so I couldn't help myself. I apologize for any of the incorrect names, but I was trying to keep it easier with the English names for everything. I appreciate any comments or questions, even criticism. So please, read, review, and enjoy!

Prologue: A Deal with the Devil

"After her!"

"Kill the girl!"

Pounding feet echoed throughout the once quiet forest. Dead leaves crunched under heavy bodies and crackled off their alarms. Men of various ages ran through the forest after what appeared to be a silver and gray blur, weapons raised high in the air. They kept swords and axes and pitchforks at their sides as they ran.

"This way!" a young man with jet-black hair yelled to the other men.

"Kill her!"

A lithe figure leapt from branch to branch and from the rock to rock. It only appeared as a blur to even keen eyes, flying past so quickly like moonlight over water. The figure leapt to a tall branch and crept down low and kept its pointed ears trained to pick up even the faintest sound, like the flight of a hummingbird. Luscious light pink lips curved into a sinful smile.

"Over here! I heard her last over here!" the young man said.

A group of about twelve men stopped beneath a tall cherry blossom tree in the heart of the forest. It was a sacred tree worshipped by the people of the village not far off. It was here many festivals and rituals were done. The figure stayed above the treetop and moved from branch to branch silently.

"Where could she have gotten to?" an elder man with graying hair asked.

Suddenly, a man was yanked off the ground and thrown across the clearing. About three men ran over to help the man whom now suffered a broken leg and broken ribs. The others held steady and alert with their weapons ready to strike. Suddenly, another man was thrown back and into the group on the side.

"She's here!"

"That devil woman's here!"

"I prefer demoness, but devil works too I suppose," a female voice purred.

The men turned around and standing behind them was a beautiful young woman. She had long, layered cut light silver hair with darker silver strands framing her face and as highlights. Her eyes were deep violet and burned with a fire all their own. She wore a beautifully designed dark navy kimono with slits at her shoulder and three slash lines cut from just below her left breast down to her right hip, revealing pale white skin. Her kimono skirt was long but was cut with an upside down "v" in the front and revealed slender curvy legs, something not known to be done by woman. But most different was a long bushy tail closely resembling a fox's tail that was dark gray at its base and slowly became lighter as it got to its tip.

"It's her! Kill her!"

A man charged her and she quickly sidestepped him and cut his chest with her long claws. Blood dripped from her claws and fell to the ground. The girl purred and licked at her claws much like a cat would.

"I'm disappointed. I thought I'd get more of a fight," her sultry voice said.

The young man charged at her and tried to cut her arm, but she moved away and he narrowly missed her, but he anticipated it and quickly swung around and slashed the side of her cheek.

The girl growled and stood up straight with her back to the men. She reached into her kimono sleeve and pulled out a long metal chain whip. It was crafted of fine metal that would neither break nor dull. The handle was deep violet and had the phases of the moon set in it by jewels. The chain part fell to the ground and the girl turned around.

"You had one free hit guys. Should have made it count," she growled.

She swung the whip up high in one fluid movement and wrapped the chain around and man and through him into two others. The other men charged her at one time. The girl crouched down and swung the whip out low and knocked them down to the ground. The young man charged at her, but she swung her whip around the blade of his sword and pulled it out from his hand. She grabbed it with her left hand and threw it at him, burying it deep in his chest.

"She brings death to us all! She killed the chief's son! We have to flee!" a man who was able to stand shouted.

The others who were able to stand, only being about four, threw down their weapons and quickly fled. The girl flexed her claws and wiped the blood off her hands and whip. She looked around her and smiled at the dead bodies that littered the ground and scowled at the stench they left in the air.

"Nice work Shadow Moon. Though I expected more from you," a strong raspy voice stated.

"I had no idea I had an audience. I guess the thrill of the kill overcame me."

"I'm not surprised you didn't notice me. I heard once the Shadow overcomes you, it shall never leave you alive."

"I try my hardest," the girl said as she stretched.

"I have a job for you Arioch."

The girl's pointed ears perked up," A job?"

"There's a certain young half demon that I want gone. He's traveling with his friends in search of the shards of the Sacred Jewel. I have most of the shards myself, but they have obtained a few of the shards and I have been unable to recover them. My attempts at killing them have failed thus far."

"So you want me to attack them and kill them huh?" the girl said uninterestedly.

"Arioch, I'm surprised. I wouldn't have come here if I wanted you to simply attack them. They require more tact than that."

"So what is it you want exactly?" Arioch asked raising a perfectly arched brow.

"I want you to befriend them. I want you to gain their trust and then strike when they least expect it. They won't expect someone from the inside to kill them. Once you gain their trust, it will be easy to tear them apart."

"So I have to stay with a pathetic half breed?"

"Not just any half breed. I want you to kill Inuyasha, Sango the demon exterminator, Miroku the monk, and Kagome the reincarnated priestess."

"Hmm, now that's something worth my talents. Finally, my chance to get my revenge against that obnoxious demon lord," Arioch growled.

"This isn't to solve some vendetta against a demon from your past. I want Inuyasha killed. I want them all torn apart. Give me their dead bodies and the shards."

"Fine. I'll befriend the little half breed."

"Arioch, tomorrow I will have a demon attack the group. I will have it die by your hands and you will gain their trust. My plan won't fail. You just make sure you give me Inuyasha's head on a platter."

"Yes Lord Naraku," Arioch said as she bowed before him.
