Chapter 5: A Gift of Vengeance
Arioch quickly dashed after Inuyasha and the others, who were all running like bats out of hell. She chased them up a large hill and stopped as she overlooked the plains. She saw waves of demons waiting in the hills behind the plain, waiting for Naraku's word to attack.
"This is a trap. Naraku is going to slaughter them if I don't do something. I have to help them some how," Arioch said to herself.
Arioch used her demon powers to dash past the group as she ran for the hill on the other side of the vast clear plain they were in. Inuyasha dashed after her with his speed, but even he was having a hard time keeping up.
< Something isn't right. Where is she running? >
"Arioch!" Inuyasha yelled over the wind.
"Draw Tetsaiga now," Arioch commanded.
Inuyasha nodded and brought his massive sword out and Arioch took out her long metal whip. When they were nearing the top of the hill, Arioch jumped up.
"Final Phase!" Arioch yelled as she twirled her whip above her head and brought it down to hit the ground hard. Violet energy flew forth and destroyed a wave of demons.
"Now Inuyasha!"
Inuyasha drew his Tetsaiga back and struck it down, "Wind Scar!"
The remaining demons were lost in the tremendous wave of white energy.
"Let's go Inuyasha!" Arioch yelled back as she took off to go back to the others.
Arioch and Inuyasha raced back to the plain where Kagome and the others were waiting, but when they got there they saw Sango and Miroku trying to deal with a giant ogre demon.
"Kagome!" Inuyasha yelled.
Inuyasha ran even faster then Arioch thought possible and ran to Kagome's side in enough time to deflect a hit the ogre tried to send out.
"Kagome, are you ok?"
"Inuyasha, I'm fine. There's a jewel shard in its left arm."
"Got it! Miroku! Sango! Distract it and I'll go for the arm!"
Sango threw her boomerang at the ogre's face, but he deflected it easy and sent it back at the ground. Miroku was standing on the sidelines ready to use his Wind Tunnel if necessary. Inuyasha jumped and slashed at the ogre's arm, but the jewel shard glowed brightly and the cut did nothing.
"Wind Scar!" Inuyasha yelled as he brought the Tetsaiga down and used its great attack. Still, the Wind Scar did nothing as the jewel shard glowed brightly and deleted the attack.
"It stopped the Wind Scar?" Sango asked amazed.
Then, the ogre hit the ground with his powerful hands and left craters in the ground. Inuyasha was trying to hack the left arm off and wasn't paying close attention to the others. Kilala had transformed and carried Sango, Miroku, and Shippo up high in the air and was trying to get Kagome, but the ogre kept them from getting to her.
Suddenly, the ogre went to attack Kagome, who couldn't move fast enough out of the way. Inuyasha was in the air with Tetsaiga ready to use his Wind Scar again when he heard Kagome scream his name out.
"Kagome!" Inuyasha yelled.
Arioch dove down and grabbed Kagome by her waist and jumped up in the air mere seconds before the ogre hit the spot they previously occupied.
"Thanks Arioch," Kagome said.
"Listen to me Kagome. Inuyasha can hack that arm all day and it still won't get cut off. The jewel shard is protecting it. Only you can stop him now Kagome. Fire a sacred arrow at the shard and destroy the arm."
"But I'm not that good of an archer. I'll miss or mess up. I can't do it."
"Yes you can Kagome. Only you can. Or would you rather all your friends suffer instead?"
Kagome hardened her eyes, "I'll do it."
Arioch nodded and landed on top of the large hill overlooking the plain from earlier. Kagome drew her bow and notched an arrow and aimed at the ogre.
< Only I can do it. I have to believe in myself. Arioch and the others are counting on me. I won't let Inuyasha or any one of my friends get hurt. I know I have the power to do it. >
Kagome charged the arrow until it glowed and fired it. The arrow flew past Kilala and the others in the air and went directly for the ogre. The arrow seemed to grow brighter and hit the ogre's arm dead on. The arm fell severed to the ground and the ogre shrank down his height by a few feet.
Miroku jumped down from Kilala and landed to his feet and took off the prayer beads from his right hand, "Wind Tunnel!"
Miroku sucked in the ogre and rocks and rubble from the area and quickly sealed his hand again once the demon was gone, falling down to the ground from his exertion. Sango and Kilala flew down by his side and Sango put his head on her lap.
Arioch dropped Kagome by Miroku and she ran over to Inuyasha and jumped in his arms.
"I did it! I did it Inuyasha!" Kagome cheered as her eyes lit up.
Inuyasha smiled at her, "Of course you did Kagome. I could have beaten it myself you know."
Kagome smiled even more and turned to the others, "Sit boy!"
Inuyasha fell face first into the dirt, which drew laughs from everyone.
Shippo ran over to the dead ogre's arm with Kilala and took out the jewel shard, "So much trouble for one little shard. Right Kilala?"
Kilala purred and walked back with Shippo. Shippo gave the shard to Kagome, whose touch purified it, and she added it to the others on the chain around her neck. Kagome then pulled out her pack and helped anyone who had wounds.
Arioch looked around curiously," Where are you Naraku?"
Arioch then saw out of the corner of her eye, Naraku in his baboon pelt hidden in the shadows. He raised his hand in the air and red energy flew out towards the group, mainly Kagome. Arioch raced forward and pushed Kagome out of the way as the red energy wrapped around her body and formed chains on her arms, legs, and waist.
"Arioch!" Inuyasha yelled.
Arioch was pulled up high in the air to the awaiting Kagura, who was standing on her enlarged feather in the sky.
"Farewell half breed," Kagura spat out and disappeared off into the air with Arioch.
"Kagura!" Inuyasha yelled, but Kagura was already too far away.
"Let's go now!" Miroku shouted.
"Not so fast," a strong voice commanded.
Arioch was high up in the air and could tell this girl reeked of Naraku's scent.
"Naraku wants a word with you," Kagura said.
Arioch growled," All he needed to do was ask."
"Naraku never does anything simple."
Kagura brought her feather down to the ground and pulled on Arioch's chains. She dragged her deep into a wooded glen and threw her on the ground.
"Here she is Lord Naraku."
"Leave Kagura," a raspy voice ordered.
Kagura bowed and quickly walked away.
"Get yourself comfortable Arioch," Naraku said as he willed the chains to disappear.
"That's so sweet of you Naraku," Arioch spat.
"Forgive my roughness, but I didn't want it too obvious."
"Well that woman will regret the day she ever touched me."
"Don't blame Kagura. I asked her to be forceful. I don't want wandering eyes to get suspicious."
"So what do you want?" Arioch asked with her arms crossed.
"I want to know why you haven't killed the half breed yet."
"It wasn't time yet."
"You've had plenty of time. You are the great Shadow Moon, the killer of innocents and murderer of the wicked. You could have killed them ten times over by now."
"You wanted me to gain their trust and that's exactly what I'm doing."
"You are growing to fond of them. Which is why I brought you a little gift."
Arioch raised her eyebrow," A gift?"
"A gift to remind yourself you are not the virtious warrior. You are a killer and I have given you something to remind yourself of that. I believe you've wanted this for a long time."
Naraku faded away into shadow and Arioch was left alone in the glen. Suddenly, a scent assailed her nose. It was a scent she'd never forget and had searched for many, many long years. It was a scent of woodlands and wine.
Arioch clutched her hands into tight fists, her nails drawing blood, which dripped down to the earth below. A growl emanated from deep in her throat and her eyes bled red. Arioch's fangs grew slightly longer and her claws did as well.
"Him," Arioch rasped out between growls.
Arioch roared out loud and ran towards the scent, which was right there along with the scent of Inuyasha and the others.
< I have searched for Him for decades. I will have my blood. >
The sky started to darken. The wind started to pick up. The clouds covered the sun up and it seemed to hail forth an event from the darkness of Hell. Sango and Kagome cringed as Miroku held onto their hands and pulled them away from the battlefield, Shippo and Kilala at his heels. Inuyasha stood tall with his sword transformed at his side and looked into the eyes of the stranger, eyes that were much like his own.
The stranger stood tall with his back to the growing darkness the landscape was turning into. He stood with a proud expression on his face and his eyes the ever more emotionless as usual. Black boots padded on the ground and white robes whirled out in the wind.
Inuyasha tightened his grip on the hilt of the Tetsaiga as he felt his battle senses overtake his normal senses. He relaxed his muscles and readied his mind for the upcoming battle, but a loud roar resembling a wild cat pierced the quiet of the air.
Inuyasha and the stranger turned around and saw a blur of a figure running towards them. The figure dashed up high in the air and a wave of purple energy pounded the ground right where the stranger stood, but he moved quickly out of the way of the attack.
The figure stood by the crater of her attack, red eyes glowing brightly.
"I have waited a very long time to find you. I have waited years to find you and stain my claws in your blood. I have finally found you. After years of searching, I finally found you, Sesshomaru," Arioch grounded out.
