Chapter 1:
No Pairings

She raced into a forest on a horse at breakneck speed, disregarding the fact that the low branches and rocks posed a threat to her winded mount. She turned back to briefly look and groaned as she realized her father had sent the hounds after her, figuratively of course.
A pack of large brown wolves ran, a few wolf demons racing with them. One a man with icy blue eyes and dark brown hair was laughing at something a red-headed demoness said. She growled as she kicked the horse faster.
‘How dare he send the wolves after me!’ she screamed in her mind as a large tree came into view, the very thing she was searching for in the forest. She leaped off her horse which dropped from exhaustion. She crouched and placed a small hand on the lathered neck and closed her eyes. The animal’s breathing slowed down and it stood up, fully rested. She sighed, it wasn’t the horse’s fault, she shouldn’t have pushed it so much. Luckily a miko’s power always worked. She looked up a the great tree, one that had a barrier around it. A teacher of hers had spoken of a giant and ancient tree sacred to the miko’s of the North. It created a barrier when one with the power was close by. A barrier that was so strong it repelled all matter of demons and some humans.
With a snarl the wolves stopped, repelled by the strong barrier of a pale green light. She leaned against the tree, tired from her flight. “Lady, you cannot hide in the barrier for long.” the leader of the wolves said. Kouga, his name was Kouga, she shook her head maybe her father was right, maybe she needed to pay attention more.
“We will see about that.” she said as she glared at them.
“Lady, he just wants the best for you.” Ayame, the red headed demoness said.
“You think marrying Hojo is the best?” the angered girl shrieked at them.
“I most certainly do.” A deep voice filled with authority said as a pure white horse stepped into the clearing. With a gulp, she prayed the barrier repelled him too.
“I will not marry him.” she said as she crossed her arms.
“I did not say you had to, I said you may think of it.” the King said as he waved the wolves away. The paced behind him. “It will do our kingdom good if you marry the son of the Lord of East.”
“He is but one of the many men who wish for my hand, not even knowing who I am or what I am like!” she yelled at him. Her silver blue eyes flashed in barely contained anger.
“I do agree,” he sighed, “if only they realized what a little hellfire you are.”
“What?” she yelled. He chuckled at the little demon-like girl before him.
“Yes, the only thing that can put up with you would be the temple.” he rubbed his chin, “I do have a son who would be glad to carry on my name.” he turned the horse and kicked it into a canter.
“Wait!” she said as she let the barrier fall. “What do you mean temple?”
“You are a powerful miko, a stubborn one at that.” he said as the horse stopped, “ I would do better placing you in a temple to train, then worrying about you slitting the throat of a potential suitor.” he held back a laugh.
“I would never.” she said as she turned her face towards the canopy of the great tree. A flash of color caught her eye as she looked to find it again.
“What would you call Lord Hojo screaming bloody murder in the middle of the night while you held a knife to him?” the king asked with a smile.
“I was proving a point!” she yelled. Her horse shifted around uneasily. She patted its neck and whispered soothing words into its ear.
“My lord, there is something in the trees.” Kouga called as he set a hand on his sword. The wolf pack behind him growled. “A demon by the scent of it.” the princess turned to look at him, as did the king.
“What breed?” she asked him.
“A bug type of some kind.” Ayame said before Kouga could get a word in, he glared at the wolf demoness.
“Easy kill then.” the King said, confident in the wolves abilities. The other two demons of the pack growled. The wolves moved around as restlessly as the horse till Kouga issued a sharp bark that made them stand at the ready, ears erect and tails straight out. They began growling at the same time.
“Ah, a fresh maiden for me to devour to become young again.” a cracked voice said as a massive centipede demon crawled around the great tree to come behind the princess. “I can already taste my youth.” she said as her tongue snaked out and licked the shocked girl across the face. She flinched in response to the unexpected tasting and turned to glare at the demoness.
Two things happened at once, one Kagome grew angry and two the wolves attacked.

“Jaken.” A silver haired man said as he looked over the lands he so recently acquired with his father’s blessing. He had fought long and hard over the past four years to reclaim his mother’s lands. They may have been crawling with low level demons and human thieves but he and his demon army cleared them out in that time period, a period his father was not shocked of.
“Yes my Lord?” the little toad demon asked. He had sworn his life in service to the silver haired demon, rather then be killed. Sesshomaru held the little imp’s loyalty in an iron fist. The imp held a powerful staff with two heads in both hands as he trembled beneath the golden gaze of his master.
“Have you found anything of the roving band of rogues Father has spoken of?” Sesshomaru asked in a flat tone. His heart had frozen over with hatred, hatred of his uncle that had bled into a hatred of nearly everything.
“No, My Lord. They quickly cover their trails and always move.” he squeaked as the demon lord swung a sword. “A man said they haven’t been seen for a few days, so maybe they are in hiding.”
“Perhaps,” Sesshomaru turned towards the window, “ that is no excuse for your failure however.” Sesshomaru said.
“Neither is your belief that this demon,” a tall man, taller then that of Sesshomaru said as he pointed to the toad, “has the ability to find them.”
“Yes Father.” he bowed his head in respect to the demon king, his father. He had grown cold and hateful since the death of his second son, or presumed death. The flea he had sent after the child could find no rumor nor evidence of the young lord. It did not help that the only news the flea had been able to obtain was that of his brother telling the bear demons to drown him.
“It is my belief that this band, is comprised of half demons. That it is led by a half demon so powerful that he is rival to us.” Inu no Tashio, called Tashio by his family and friends. “It is funny though how they only rob and never kill.”
The Dog King left without another word, leaving his heir to ponder his words. Sesshomaru turned to the imp. “Have you seen any trace of half bloods?”
“Yes milord.” Jaken stuttered, as he backed away.
“Good, follow it.”

“Damn it!” a young woman cursed as she was surrounded by the body parts and fluids of demons she has slain.
“And you tried so hard to keep clean for the report.” a laughing monk dressed in a purple robe said as he sat on a log that had been felled by her boomerang. He inspected the sutras he had and frowned. “Of course, these were meant for evil auras, not demons.” he sighed and pulled another stack of sutras out and looked them over, “now these are the right ones.”
“You used the wrong ones? Are you an idiot?” she growled at him. “Don’t answer that, you have to be, trying to fool every village we come to in believing the most respectable home in the place is cloaked with an ‘evil aura’” she looked around the area, “Clean it up.” she told him and walked away, desperately wanting a bath, or at least a river to rinse herself off.
“But why me?” the monk said as she walked off.
“Because you know they have to be purified or they can be resurrected in the future by a dark miko.” she said grumpily. She really, really wanted that bath. Slug demons were the worst.
“Oh yes, let the monk do all the work.” he said as he set about purifying the remains. It would have to be gruesome task, a punishing thing that had to be from the kamis. “Why did I just have to grope the daughter of a king?”

As the wolves charged and the princess screamed in outrage the centipede demoness attacked Kagome, her fangs sinking into the soft flesh of her side. With a snarl the wolves leapt at her, her tough armor like hide repelled the attack easily. They backed off, their hackles raised and lips curled back. A pulsing pink light was slowing becoming stronger and brighter. The demons looked at Kagome in worry. Kouga turned and in a flash arrived before the king’s horse.
“Sire, you need to leave.” Kouga said as he stood in front of the King. “We cannot protect both you and Kagome.” the king nodded and slapped his horse into a gallop. A flash of white -pink light drew all the attention to the princess.
“Protect my daughter, Kouga.” the king yelled as the horse disappeared into the underbrush. Kouga turned towards the demoness, scoping the situation as best as he could, trying to find a weak point in the hide. Maybe her humanoid top was the weakness? Kouga transformed into his huge black wolf form, with ice blue eyes.
“Kagome!” Ayame screamed as the demon flung her up and opened her great maw. Two of the demoness’s four arms missing, the stubs burnt and charred. Her powers had awaken in her time of need, which was good and bad, the wolf demoness thought.
“Shit!” with a burst of speed the wolf demon launched himself at the underbody of the demoness and tackled her. Kagome fell into Ayame’s arms as Kouga wrestled with the demoness. Fighting the urge to drop Kagome, due to the fact the girl was glowing pink and slowly purifying the wolf demoness that held her, Ayame carried the girl across the clearing to the wolves. With a few yips she told the wolves to watch over her. She was just getting ready to sit the girl down when Kouga yelped in pain.
“I am Mistress Centipede and I am Queen!” she snarled as she flung the wolf pack leader into a tree. He reverted back to his humanoid form as he lay on the ground. Ayame sat the stunned Kagome on the ground and landed a kick on the chest of the demoness. The centipede flew backwards but her bulk prevented her from falling to the ground completely. She chuckled as she scurried to where they were. She stood up and laughed manically, as she figured she had her prey right where she wanted them. “All of you will be a fine meal befitting a queen!”
“What the hell?” Kouga snarled as none of their attacks were working. He flexed his claws as he prepared to charge, her humanoid body, it had to be the weakness, it just had to be. A coil of the centipede whipped out and knocked all the wolves to the floor. He groaned as he stood, a few ribs felt like they were broken. Ayame crouched in her wolf form, her dark red fur bristling in rage.
A loud snarl made all the demons, animals and Kagome to look at the edge of the clearing. As several trees fell to the ground in a crash.
“I cannot fucking believe this. I just want a bath!” a giant boomerang flew towards the bug and sliced her lower half. “Why can’t I have a fucking break!”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*
“Oh shit.” the monk said wide eyed as he ducked Sango’s arm as she caught the boomerang.
“Fucking hell is right, I just want a bath.” she snarled as she threw the weapon again, removing a further chuck of demon flesh.
A flash of fire and a fire cat dives from the sky, grabbing the girl from the floor and dashing to her mistress’s side, the young woman held up like a kitten. Kagome’s eyes widened in surprise as the cat held her carefully.
“Kirara, protect her better then these wolves.” Sango said as she tossed the weapon aside and withdrew her sword. Miroku, the monk charged forward, a handful of sutras in his hands. “Those better be the correct fucking sutras, monk!” Sango growled at him. With a few cuts and slices, and a lot of burnt flesh later, Miroku turned tail and ran, as soon as he realized who that girl was.
“I am not getting castrated today!” he said with a frightened yell. Sango watched him leave with amusement. She looked down at herself and grimaced. She then turned to the other woman.
“Any woman who can get that monk to flee like that is a friend of mine.” the tall woman wearing black armor said as she approached the younger woman on the ground. She was wrapped around by two large fluffy tails as the fire cat growled at the wolves. She held a hand out and helped the girl up. The fire cat shrunk into a les fearsome version of her larger form. With a mew and a wrinkle of her nose she set to cleaning herself.
“He was banished by my father, for groping me.” Kagome said her eyes narrowing, forgetting she was covered in demoness guts.
“Well that makes sense.” Sango said as she gagged at the smell of the rotting demoness. “Damn, that monk left before he could purify the remains.”
“Oh, that’s okay, the wolves can haul her to the Bone Eaters Well. It is a pure well that purifies and dissolves demon bones and remains.” Kagome said as she realized what she was covered in. “Eek!”
“You know of a hot spring around here?” Sango asked, as she held her boomerang out, guts and blood dripping off her arms.

“I would like to thank you for the honorable deed you have done by protecting my daughter.” The king said as he sat at ease in his throne. The chamber that held the thrones was made of pure white marble and was decorated with tapestries of people in miko clothing and monks clothing. They were shown doing different things, purifying demons, healing the sick, making treaties and helping reach agreements between the other kingdoms. The largest of all of them, were two that hung directly behind the two thrones, one was of a miko holding a shining pink jewel while demons fell around her in agony and the other was of a monk sitting peacefully beneath a blossoming cherry tree.
Sango kneeled before the thrones. Her weapons left outside the doors and she was dressed in a simple dress, green and pink. Her hair was down and she did not look at all like the demon killer before. “Milord, I had just happened across at the right time.”
“Even so, you have saved my eldest child from her death. I would like to reward you with what ever you choose, in return for a favor.” The king said as his wife and their two children walked into the room. His wife sat in the throne next to his and the children, one of whom was very unhappy, sat on the steps leading to the dais the thrones sat on.
“What favor do you ask of me, milord?” Sango asked as she rose. Her kitten crawled around her feet and mewed at the princess. Kagome smiled and called her over quietly.
“It is no easy task.” the king warned. The queen nodded with him.
“I have never been afraid of those words, milord.” she said as she looked him in the eye. His guards grew uneasy and he motioned them back with a wave of his hand.
“I thought you might say that.” he chucked then said, “I would like for you to be my daughter’s personal body guard.”
“What?” Kagome yelled as she stood, dropping the poor fire neko to the ground.
“May I inquire as to why?” Sango asked as Kirara came back to her a bit disgruntled.
“Kagome, you will cease this nonsense.” The king looked over at Sango when Kagome just crossed her arms and grumbled. “My lovely daughter, she needs someone who can be with her always, someone she can speak to, someone she can trust with her loyalty. Now I ask of you to place yourself fully into her employ, hers and hers only. I will ask nothing of what she speaks of to you, it is her right to be able to confide in someone. She will need someone to protect her without hesitation, you have proved that one when you killed the centipede without wondering why she was there. She will be leaving soon, to a distant kingdom, in hopes that she will learn manners there. Dog demons are hard on those who are disgraceful to their kings.”
“Father!” Kagome said as she stood. “You said I wasn’t promised to any!”
“You are not. You are merely being sent over to the Western Kingdom to be trained in not only running a kingdom but using you miko abilities.” he sighed, “They have no miko or monk, and have desperate need of them as the population of humans is growing.”
“I will accept on one condition. The monk Miroku will accompany me.” Sango said.
“The monk who grouped my daughter? Why?” he asked her with a piercing gaze.
“He is afraid to touch her, something about a castration. I ask for him because he is a monk and can be punished by helping those in need.” Sango said carefully.
“I will grant it.” the king turned to one of the guards, a wolf demon who was at the battled yesterday. “Kouga hunt down that monk and bring him back.”
“Yes milord.” Kouga said and dashed off.
“Kagome you will pack.” the queen stated as she led her son from the chamber.
“Sis has to leave?” the boy asked on the verge of tears.
“Yes Souta, she does.” the queen said.
Kagome glared at the ground as the king spoke to Sango of the arrangements.
