The next morning, Miroku and Sango were woken with a yell from Inuyasha that they were under attack. Both of them hastily dressed and hurried outside. Kagome informed everyone that there were no jewel shards on the huge mantis demon. Miroku uncovered his wind tunnel and sucked the thing in. He grimaced as the youkai made a cut on the side of his wind tunnel. Just like last time. He thought, remembering to the time this had happened shortly after Sango had joined their group. He glared at his right hand. Why am I cursed with this idiotic thing?
About three months later, they had just finished fighting another demon. Miroku had been noticing that his wind tunnel was widening lately. Sango had also been noticing signs, but of something different entirely. For example, morning sickness was a regular companion as of late. She looked over at Miroku. “Miroku-chan?” He looked at her. “Yes, Sango?” But before she could say anything, his wind tunnel began to glow. Everyone stared, wide-eyed. Miroku's eyes showed fear. Sango ran over to him and put her arms around him. He pushed her away. “Sango….my curse is going to swallow me whole. I don't want you pulled in with me, because, for one thing, I don't want to see you suffer my fate. Another thing is, you shouldn't sacrifice the innocent life you carry.” Sango stared. “How…did you know?” Miroku managed a smile. “You've been sick every morning for the past three months.” She laughed. “Good point.” His reply was cut short when his wind tunnel flew open. Inuyasha grabbed Kagome and Shippou and got away quickly. Sango screamed. “Miroku!!!” There was a flash of light, a cry of mixed pain and fright from Miroku, and he was gone. Sango ran to where he had been. She saw that all that was left of him was his staff and prayer beads, both of which she picked up. She tucked the beads away with the gas mask she carried. He was gone. Miroku was really gone. She burst into tears and fled, ignoring Kagome and Inuyasha calling out her name.
