14: Pain can be overcome
"Damn it let me go Miroku!" Inuyasha yelled to the monk for trying to hold him back. "He will not get away from me this time!"
Inuyasha has been struggling to escape from Miroku for some time now. As soon as Sesshoumaru was out of the clearing, Inuyasha was on his feet wishing to strike his brother down, if it wasn't for the monk.
"Inuyasha listen to me! You are in no condition to fight! Allow your wound to recover!" Miroku has his staff around Inuyasha's torso, keeping him from moving to reopen his now healing wounds.
"Would you get off my back about that! I am not gonna let that bastard get away for taking what is mine!" Gripping the staff, Inuyasha flings Miroku over his shoulder and pants from the use of energy. 'Damn it! Why the hell am I recovering so slowly?!' Kneeling down and gripping his stab, he looks at his palm and sees fresh blood.
Doing a back flip to land on his feet, "Inuyasha, calm yourself, I am only trying to help. There is nothing you can do for Shippo or Kagome if you run into his castle, injured where even that toad Jaken can hit you hard enough you kill-over!"
Growling at Miroku for thinking him so weak, "Why would I 'kill-over' to Jaken?" Raising to meet the monks gaze.
To emphasize his point, Miroku strikes Inuyasha's stab with his lower staff.
Howling in pain, Inuyasha instinctively lashes out at Miroku, who easily side steps the attack. "As I was saying, you are in no condition to fight. Do not tempt me to put another incantation on you." Miroku says in all seriousness while narroing his eyes.
"Miroku! Why did you do that to Inuyasha? He has a serious injury that doesn't need your added assault to damage it further!" Sango says while running to Inuyasha's aid. Placing her hand on his shoulder, to try and comfort him as best she could, but he just shrugs off her hand. Quietly, she says, "Inuyasha, as mush as I hate to agree to Miroku, you must regain strength before entering battle. A death lost for no reason is a death in vain."
Not turning to look at either one of them, Inuyasha gets up and walks away from the clearing.
Sango is about to follow but Miroku holds her back, "Leave him alone and think about what we said." He drops his hand, still serious he walks off, opposite Inuyasha, without his usual hentai gesture.
Looking at both men walking away from her, Sango gets up and motions for Kirara to follow. "Come Kirara, let us make ourselves useful and hunt dinner." A simple mew in response, both walk, in between the two men.
'Stupid monk! Stupid taijia! Stupid Sesshoumaru! Stupid stupid stupid!' Inuyasha thinks in his head while splashing furiously at the stream, cleaning blood and dirt from his cloths while the waterfall splashes his face. "Why do they always have to be the right one's? Why can't I, for once, think clearly!?" Inuyasha yells at himself. Seeing himself at the waters reflection, he hits at the surface and trips on a moss covered rock.
Ears rolled back he sulks in the stream. After a while of silence, he calms himself enough to take off his haori to clean it better. Grabbing only the neck lining, while it dances on the ripples of the water. Small trails of blood leave the haori, while Inuyasha stares at it flowing towards the rushing current. "Why couldn't I have been as a current with only one path?" He thinks out loud to himself.
"Because not even a current has just one path."
Ears raise, turning his, Inuyasha sees Sango at the top of the waterfall. 'Why didn't I hear her coming?'
"Inuyasha, a current will never be calm and collective. It may have smooth trails, but sooner or later it will meet with rocks that make it's journey difficult. But that is all worth it in the end, when everything makes it's way to the calm lake that many take comfort in it's calm surroundings." She says after reaching the shore of where Inuyasha sits in the water.
Looking at her confusedly he turns his head away and says, "Who asked you? What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be back at camp?" He gets up and heads back to the opposite shore that Sango is on. Ringing out his fire rat haori, he drapes it over his shoulders and turns away.
"As for what I'm doing here, I came to clean a few rabbits I caught for dinner." Motioning for Kirara to come from the bushes. She holds a rope in her mouth, on the end are rabbits hanging lifelessly.
"Feh, whatever." Heading back to the camp, Inuyasha turns around and looks at Sango before running quickly to the trees.
Miroku has been wondering around for a while, thinking of some way to retrieve both Kagome and Shippo from Sesshoumaru's castle.
'If Sesshoumaru is holding both of our team mates how good a chance do we have at rescuing them without putting them at risk?' Miroku continues to ponder on this dilemma, when the sun shines in his eyes.
Shielding his eyes, he looks straight to see that he has made it to a bustling village. 'Were we that close to a village? How long have I been walking?'
While amongst the crowded streets of the merchants village. People talk loudly while others bargain trying to lower the prices of goods they wish to purchase. "My, my what do we have here?" Miroku walks up to a very tanned woman dressed in odd cloths.
Her appearance is of nothing he has ever seen before. She wears a veil over her nose and mouth, it is see through, blue with trimmings in gold sparkles. The haori she wears is nothing he's seen, even from Kagome. Her sleeves are long and puffy, it ends just below her breast and show off her trim waist. Her hakamas are similar to her sleeves, stopping at her ankles. Her slippers are gold that match the soft blue of her outfit. Her hair is cast down and as black, her eyes are a chocolate brown.
They meet each others gaze but Miroku is lost from his inspection of the girl, when she asks, "So you wish me to read your palm?" Her voice is soft and gentle, her speech is accented, but not misunderstand-able.
Walking on air, he floats towards her. "Why fair maiden, please tell this humble monk your name and where it is you are from?" He asks while throwing a charming smile.
She seems taken back, when he mentioned he was a monk. "Forgive me, I did not know you were of the temples. I understand if your religion does not believe in my ability." She turns away.
"Do not fret dear maiden. Answer my questions and I shall be more than happy as to let you read my palm." Shock filled his eyes when he said that. He lifted his right hand and stared at the prayer beads wrapped around.
"My name is Jasmin, I come from India where my father is a traveling merchant who sells the finest silk of our village. I am able to read palms."
Looking back at the woman known as Jasmin, Miroku smiles, "It is a pleasure, do not worry, for I too am able to read palms, we do not toss out others who do such things." Giving her his left hand, she tries to trace its meanings.
"I am sorry, but, you do not wright in this hand, your left tells me not of anything." She returns his hand.
Smiling once again at her, "Forgive me, but I cannot show my right hand to you, for you see," showing her the glove, "I hold a cursed hole on my hand, that I will soon die from, if the one who placed such cures is not defeated. It will continue on my line until he is dead. I am afraid my time grows near, and that I too will suffer the same fate as my father and his father before him."
Grabbing both her hands he gets eye level with her, "I wish for an heir to continue my life's goal if I do not succeed." Looking straight at her eyes he asks, "Jasmin will you bare me a child?"
Back at camp, Inuyasha stares at the fire warming his face. 'Wonder where Miroku went?' Leaning back he sees an upside down Sango riding on Kirara.
Neither speak as dinner is prepared under the glow of the fire, the sun will set within the hour. 'What did Sango mean about the current?' Deciding to voice his question he asks, "Sango what did you mean when you were talking about the current?" He looks towards her.
She skewers the last rabbit and places it over the fire. "Well, when you really think about it, you kind of are like a river." When she sees him unconvinced, she continues, "It's like, your attitude, you are always a strong current, but you can show a calmness sometimes. The rocks are our battles, and the lake is kinda like how you can take comfort in us. In a way, you are like the current." She smiles while looking back at the fire to turn over the rabbit.
Raising an eyebrow he says, "That is probably the sappiest thing I have ever heard coming out of your mouth Sango." He snickers.
Sango's eyes grow wide and she lightly blushes and snickers. Then giggles. Then it becomes a full out laugh.
Seeing Sango laughing like that, Inuyasha too starts to laugh.
Sesshoumaru's castle outer gardens
So the little miko has begun to get involved in the corse of our beloved taiyoukai? This should be interesting. Since when has Sesshoumaru shown compassion to a ningen female? Snickering to herself, Kagura waits in the shadows of the night, floating on her feather, staying just above reach of the guard plants. Naraku will be most pleased of this change in the Lord.
Flying into the setting sun, she leaves, if only to return another day.
Sesshoumaru's castle inside Rin and Shippo's room
"Kagome-mama will you stay with use 'till we go to sleep?" Shippo asks, sitting on Kagome's lap along side Rin. Each nestled between one arm. Rin looks up with hopeful eyes.
"Alright you guys, but you better get to sleep." She sais while smiling down at the two.
They nod there heads quickly and Kagome hums a song to help them sleep. In only a few minutes, both are wiped out, and sleeping peaceful dreams.
She carefully puts both under the blankets, not wanting to wake them up. Kissing each in turn on the forehead.
Unknown by her, Sesshoumaru has been listening to her by the bedroom door, leaning against a wall in the hall. 'Kagome's scent is different, what could it mean?' Growling to himself, he speeds off quickly to his room to ponder this scent.
Kagome walks down the hallway to her room, grabbing at her stomach feeling a cramp comming on. 'Great, I'm on my period.'
