Chapter Twelve
Leiko's Dream

Leiko shed the blood and mud-stained tank top she wore and shimmed out of the equally-dirty shorts. She looked at them in disgust, tossing them aside. They were completely ruined. Leiko climbed into the steaming bath that Sango had prepared for her, letting out a satisfied moan as the warm water washed away the filth. The fight had taken a lot out of her. A light tap on the door brought her out of her delighted thoughts of a peaceful bath.
The door slide open slowly and Yamainu sidled in. When he turned his mouth gaped. Leiko shook her head in disbelief. Was he that desperate for another glimpse of her? They sat in silence for a few moments.
"Um...Sorry Lei..." he said. "That Satzuka girl won't back off."
Leiko cocked an eyebrow at him.
Yamainu put a slight crack in the door to prove his point. "Yamainu!" Satzuka called sweetly.
Too sweetly. Leiko thought acidly. "Close the door." she snapped. "You're letting in a draft."
Yamainu shut the door obediently. He held something under one of his arms that Leiko hadn't noticed before. The wolf youkai followed her eyes and produced a long robe of soft, blue silk. Silver threads were interwoven to form the pattern of a full moon and stars. Leiko smiled and submerged herself in the warm liquid.
When she came back up, Yamainu was sitting against the door. Leiko rose out of the water and wrung out her silver locks. She saw Yamainu look away and chuckled.
"It's a little late to look away." she said.
Yamainu offered her a towel and let his eyes slide over her body once more. His eyes burned with renewed desire, but he kept himself in check. She took the towel and dried quickly, so as not to torment him too long. When Leiko held her hand out for her robe, Yamainu held it open for her. She slid her arms into the soft sleeves and Yamainu wrapped his arms around her as he tied the drawstring at her waist. Leiko felt his lips press against her neck and leaned into them with a light moan.
A sharp rap on the door made both of them jump. "Leiko?" Keiyo's voice came from the other side.
"What?!" she asked angrily.
"Sango said that she made your bed up in the second room to the right of the living room." Keiyo replied.
Leiko sighed heavily. "Okay, Keiyo." she said.
The sound of fading foot steps and a closing door told them that the cougar demon had gone to bed. Leiko pulled out of Yamainu's grasp and moved to leave. His hand shot out and his fingers coiled around her wrist. Leiko looked down at his hand and smiled.
"I doubt Satzuka is going to try to seduce you." Leiko smiled.
Yamainu snorted. " I still want to stay with you." he said. "I can't let my woman sleep alone, now can I?"
It was still a joke to him. Leiko laughed lightly at their private joke and nodded. It was pointless to deny what she wanted. If the wolf youkai was willing to share her bed then she wasn't going to keep him away. She had grown accustom to having him wrap his strong arms around her during the night. The wave jealousy that overtaken her when Satzuka held his hand for that split second had taken her by surprise.
They left the bathing room and made their way to Leiko's room. She sank gratefully into the warm furs, smiling to herself when Yamainu slid in beside her. It seemed that she had ended up warming his furs after all. She fell to sleep remembering how Yamainu had looked at her that new moon night and then again while they had been in the bathing room. It had made her heart jump to think of what he would have done to her, had she been willing.

The tapestry hung in front of her. Leiko pointed to the picture of her father. Inuyasha came behind her and lifted her onto his shoulder, laughing. She giggled happily as Inuyasha tossed her into the air and caught her again.
"Inuyasha, let her go play." Kagome said, cradling the new-born Akira.
He put her down and the little girl ran outside. Satzuka sat on the porch, polishing the large string of prayer beads she recieved from Kagome and Inuyasha the day before. Leiko waved to the younger girl and ran to the edge of the village.
She wasn't paying attention so it was no surprise that she slammed into someone standing in her path. Her small body flew backwards and skid in the dirt. When she opened her eyes, Leiko saw a very handsome man before her. He had pointed ears, fangs, and a wolf tail.
"Hello." he said in a smooth voice.
"Hi." Leiko said, dusting herself off.
"KOUGA!" Inuyasha shouted. "Get the hell away from my daughter!"
Kouga looked up from the little girl and up at her father. He smiled half-heartedly as the young man drew near. When Kagome came to retrieve Leiko, Kouga's smile was for her alone. Leiko glared at the man who dared look at her mother in such a way.
"Hey, what do you want, you mangy wolf?!" Inuyasha growled, advancing on the wolf man.
Kouga held up his hands in defense. "I only came to warn you."
"Warn me?! About what?"
"Someone is going to harm one of your daughters." Kouga replied.
Inuyasha lifted his fist and landed a punch square on the wolf youkai's face.
"Yeah, Daddy!" Leiko shouted.
Kouga rubbed the sore spot on his face, glaring up at the angry father. He smiled slightly. "Still as stubborn as ever,eh, mutt face?" he said.
Akira's sudden outburst of screams brought the arguing to a halt. Kagome whirled. Still holding Leiko in her arms, she ran towards her baby. Leiko looked back into the eyes of the wolf youkai. His eyes begged her to believe him. She swallowed hard when they got to Akira. There was no sign of injury, but Leiko knew something was wrong.
"Damn it!" a mysterious voice said from above. "I got the wrong one."

Leiko shot off of the pallet of furs, drenched in a cold sweat. Her breath came in short gasps and her head was spinning. That dream! Was it true? Leiko put her hand on her head, trying to collect herself. When Yamainu groaned in his sleep, she settled back down beside him but sleep stayed away for the rest of the night.
