Chapter Thirty-Two
Rage of the Demon
The creature before her was not the opponet she had come to know. Her eyes were blood red, her fangs and teeth had gotten longer, and on her forehead the natural tatoo of most full demons was printed. It was a cresent moon of deep blue with a silver star under the very tip of the top point. She was a full demon!
"Leiko!" Yamainu shouted.
"Let's dance, bitch!" Leiko growled, ignoring Yamainu.
Tenma looked down at her. She was a cold-hearted killer now. This was what Tenma had been trying to provoke all the while. A sick smile twisted her face. Leiko flexed her hand and cracked the bones.
"No sword?" Tenma asked.
"Nope." Leiko said in a bored voice. "I'm going to enjoy killing you with my bare hands."
Tenma leapt from the roof and withdrew a dagger from beneath her robes. Leiko moved aside and grabbed a handful of Tenma's hair. The priestess turned and sliced into Leiko's hand. The dog youkai howled in paine. Tenma pulled away, leaving a chunk of her hair clenched in Leiko's hand.
Blood painted the ground in front of Leiko. The wound was deep and went from the side of her hand and up to the top. She brought the wound to her lips and dragged her tongue along the open gash. Her blood hit her tongue and brought a smile tp her face. She wanted to taste Tenma's blood and feel it run down her throat.
"Leiko!" Yamainu called again.
She glanced at him for no more than a brief moment. Her attention was quickly turned back to Tenma. The priestess was grinning at the dog youkai. Leiko dropped her hand and snapped at her opponet. Leiko launched herself onto Tenma and pinned her to the ground. Tenma looked up at her in pure fear. She knew that now that Leiko had her pinned down, death was the only way out.
"You won't kill me, my pet." she said.
"No?" Leiko growled. "You're so sure of you're ability?"
Tenma tried to raise her hand to stab Leiko again, but the youkai had her pinned down to hard. Leiko smiled evilly. It was all over for the priestess now.
"LEIKO!!" Yamainu shouted. "Stop!"
She looked away from Tenma and directly into her lover's eyes. He looked so afraid of her. Leiko closed her eyes and when she opened them they were their usual clear silver. Tenma smiled broadly. She had loosened her grip in that moment.
"I told you that you couldn't kill me." she said and shoved the dagger into Leiko's right shoulder.
Leiko screamed in pain and fell away from the evil priestess. Tenma scrambled to her feet and delivered a swift kick to Leiko's ribs. The hanyou groaned in pain and curled into a tight ball. Her shoulder pulsed with pain and her vision was swimming. Tenma moved in circles around Leiko. The hanyou crawled to her hands and knees. Her eyes travelled to Yamainu and the others.
"You will join your sister soon." Tenma said, producing another dagger from beneath her robes.
"Not yet." Leiko said weakly.
She grabbed the hilt of the dagger embedded in her shoulder. Blood gushed out of the now-open wound and stained the ground. Leiko forced herself to her feet and stood on shaky legs. She was losing too much blood at one time. If she didn't end this now, she would die. Leiko ground her teeth and lauched herself at Tenma. Leiko dug her claws into her open wound and covered them with blood. All she could do was pray that it worked.
"Blades of Blood!"
Deep red blades shot from her blood-covered claws and sliced through Tenma. The priestess cried out in pain and staggered backwards. Leiko unsheathed Yakeima and ran at Tenma. Sparks began to form around the blade and swirl through the air. She positioned Yakeima so that the blade was in front of her. Tenma's eyes widened in fear as she neared her. Just before Yakeima pierced Tenma's flesh, Leiko threw the blade away from her and tackled the priestess.
Leiko pinned her down once more and bared her fangs at her opponet. Tenma couldn't move from loosing so much blood. The hanyou lifted her head to the sky, howled loudly, and chomped down on Tenma's throat. Blood squirted from between her teeth and Tenma's body fell limp. Leiko released Tenma and fell to the ground beside her.
"No! Leiko!" Yamainu leapt to his feet and ran to her.
Now that Tenma was dead, her spell had no sway on them anymore. The others rose to their feet as quick as they could. They ran to Leiko's side and stood watching. Yamainu lifted her into his arms. His eyes went to Kari and she nodded. He walked to one of them empty huts and lay her down. Kari lay her hand on the wound on Leiko's shoulder. The others watched as the wound slowly closed.
"She'll live." Kari said softly.
Leiko opened her eyes slowly. "Yamainu..." she whispered. "Take me home."
"You're going back to your era?" Keiyo asked sadly.
Leiko shook her head. "No." she said. "Back to the pack's den."
Yamainu smiled softly. "I can do that." he said. "You guys coming?"
"We have to go back to our village." Sasuke said.
Satzuka smiled. "Yeah. I miss my parents too much to stay away any longer."
Kari and Shadow shared a solemn look. "We'll go back with you, Yamainu." Kari said.
"Our pack hates us now." Shadow said.
Leiko looked over at Keiyo.
The little cougar youkai smiled softly and nodded. "I have to go with you." she said. "No one else can keep you and Yamainu out of trouble."
The others laughed. Leiko smiled slightly and brought her hand over the Shikon no Tama. Yamainu bent down and kissed her on the forehead. She was going to stay with him here.
"Lei, make me a promise?" he asked.
"Depends."
"Never get that made at me."
Leiko laughed softly. "Only if you don't provoke the rage of the demon." she said.
Yamainu nodded. "Deal." he said softly.
