Smile Milo
-Leo-
How the hell did this happen? I stood at the door, blinking.
“Donel?” I asked. A black man about Hisako's age stood outside. He
was an oak tree of a man. Most people are scared of him when they
first see him. He's really a chill dude.
“Yo!” Donel said.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
“Oh,” he said, looking to his side. I looked along with him. A
little tan-skinned boy stood next to him. Oh. He brought Milo with
him.
“My sitter got sick last night,” Donel said. “I couldn't find
anyone else.” I blinked at him.
“But why me?” I asked.
“I couldn't think of anyone else,” he said. “Please? I can't leave
him alone.”
“Can't you take him to work with you?” I asked. Donel shook his
head.
“Can't,” he said. “Please.” I sighed and forced myself to
smile.
“Fine,” he said. Donel quickly bowed.
“Thank you so much, man!” he said. My face went flat.
“Right…” I muttered.

I don't need this. That bastard took over my house. Ranko is here
again. Kana won't talk to me. And now this. Milo stared at me on
the couch. Did he have to be so gloomy? I've never seen this child
smile. What does he have to be sad about? I sighed.
“So how are you today?” I asked. Milo shrugged and shook his head.
Really? I shook my head. Who was it this kid?
“What do you want to do?” I asked. Milo looked up at me. Is he
depressed or something?
We looked up when we heard footsteps. Hisako stood in the doorway.
I waved at her.
“Yo,” I said. Hisako stared at me before looking at Milo.
“Oh. It's that kid,” she said.
“Hisa!” I snapped. Milo looked down at his knees. Hisako rolled her
eyes.
“Whatever,” she said.
“You're still here?” I asked.
“Yeah,” she said. I narrowed my eyes.
“Why?” I asked. Hisako snorted and rolled her eyes.
“What do you think?” she asked.
“Oh-ho!” I said. “So they are meeting him.” I laughed.
“Well this should be interesting,” I said. Hisako's face turned
bright red.
“Shut up!” she yelled. I broke down laughing. Hisako growled and
walked off. I leaned back, laughing. But then, the laughter died
when I looked over at Milo. Nothing. He always looked like someone
died. I sighed. Oh boy…

Dinner was just… well… Yeah. Milo was still there. Still not
smiling. What's it going to take with this kid? That bastard stared
at him.
“What's wrong with him?” he asked. Mom and Hisako shrugged. I
rolled my eyes.
“Nothing,” I said. “That's how he is.” The bastard looked
confused.
“That can't be right,” he said. He looked at mom and Hisako.
“Is that true?” he asked. They said nothing. He looked at Milo.
“Who is this kid anyway?” that bastard asked.
“A friend's,” I said. I shoved grilled chicken into my mouth. That
bastard gave up. I smirked to myself. Good, he's speechless.
However, I noticed something else. What is this? The meat has no
taste. The meat has no taste. What the hell?
“How do you like dinner?” Ma asked. Her gaze was on Milo. I glanced
up at him. That child stared at his plate. No food was moved at
all. I'm starting to worry about him.
“Fine,” Milo mumbled. I nudged him on the arm.
“Are you okay, buddy?” I asked. He didn't look up at me. I put my
hand on his forehead. Hm… No fever. Maybe it's a stomach bug?
“Is he sick?” Ma asked.
“No,” I said. “I don't know what's wrong.” No one said anything. I
shoved more meat into my mouth. This kid always brings everyone
down. I sat back in my spot. Somehow, I wished I had Kana with me.
She'd do… something. I don't know. This kid is killing me. How long
until Donel gets back? Oh boy…
