Sisters of the Water

She's been missing for too long.

“I can't feel her anywhere.”

“You don't think she's—”

“No! She's still alive! I can feel it!”

“But you said…”

“She's not here.”

“Then… where is she?”

“Out there.”

“You don't mean…”

“Yes.”

“How do we get her back?”

She didn't have any answers. “I don't know.”

“Girls?”

“Yes Mama?”

“What is going on here?”

“Um…”

“We can't find out sister.” Their mother says nothing. The nymphs started to worry. She barely spoke about their sister anymore.

“She's still alive!” The sisters waited. Nothing. There was nothing in her face. The sisters started to worry.

“Mama?”

“I know.”

“What?”

Their mother may have looked stoic but her eyes were so dark. “She is gone from us.”

“No…”

“That can't be! There has to be a way!”

“No.” Her loud voice made her daughter go quiet. She took in a breath.

“Her body has been tainted. I am so sorry.” Tears filled her daughters' eyes.

“It can't be! We have to get her back! We can't leave her out there!”

“That's not how that works.” She patted her daughter on the head.

“She has to decide to come home on her own.”

“What does that mean?”

“I knew it!”

“It's that boy, isn't it? I knew it! He's ruined everything!”

“Chiho…”

“No!” Her voice echoed through the kingdom. Her older sister had to hold her still. Their mother sighed.

“Don't fault him either.” Her daughters stared at her with judgmental eyes. Suddenly, their mother froze.

“Mama?”

Her eyes glazed over. She dropped her mouth open.

“Mama? Are you there? Chiho-nee? Mika-nee? Yuki-nee? Natsumi-chan?” The sisters' eyes widened.

“Kana-chan?”

“It is you!”

“Kana-chan!”

“Are you okay?”

“How have you been?” There was a long pause.

“Kana-chan?”

“I'm in trouble!” It came out so loud and so fast. Her sisters started to get worried.

“What's wrong? What happened?”

Their mother's body started to shake. Her daughters started to panic.

“Kana-chan? Kana-chan!” The nymphs didn't know what to do. Meanwhile, Kana was running out of time. She managed to get one more message in before the connection was gone.
