Lies and Deceptions

-_Author's Note_- I don't own InuYasha or it's characters, they belong to the great Rumiko Takahashi. However I created Kage with my wide imagination.

She was lying on the grass shaded by a tree; she was bored and had nothing else to do so she contemplated her life so far. She was wearing a common grey kimono, because her mother couldn't afford to buy her more beautiful ones.
Her 135-year-old life hadn't given her any excitement like the other girls of the village that were younger than her. She knew that her species were children until the age of 100, which was 14 in human years in appearance, and that girls usually married at 14, but she was approximately 17 human years in appearance yet no man had even taken an interest in her. She had asked her mother frequently every year on her birthday since she turned 100 why, but she had always dismissed those questions.
She sat up and shook her head, shaking her long black hair, it wasn't a necessity to be married at all and besides, the men of the village were all low-classed farmers and not worthy of her. However, she did know of a large castle a few villages away, but she heard it was very eerie and sometimes even disappeared. There could be a handsome man there, maybe.
She slapped her pale hands against her pale skin; she was thinking of marriage again.
`I need to stop thinking about it or I'll become obsessed and no-one will like me then' She thought.
`Kage-chan!' A voice called from the house below. `Time for dinner!'
`Coming!' She called to the voice below. `Ooh. I wonder what we're having.'
She walked quickly down to the wooden house, being careful for the steep parts of the grassy hill. When she entered she took of her shoes and sat down in front of her plate and looked into the kind face of her mother. She noticed something about them they looked red from crying.
Rice balls, she enjoyed them as her mother made them very well. She would have liked something more, but there was always a shortage of food in the village and those with large families usually went hungry.
“Mother?” Kage asked when she noticed her mother hadn't touched her food.
“Yes?” Her mother replied
“Where's Father?”
Her mother turned her head towards the window and sighed. She then turned her head back to Kage.
“Your Father was… Your Father was killed while he was investigating something in the woods. He was sure he smelt a demon a man who was in the woods at the time he informed me.”
Her mother's grey eyes looked like she was about to burst into tears, Kage got up and walked over to her and hugged her. They both cried over the loss of her father.
After they had stopped crying Kage thought of something.
“Mother? Where does the man that saw Father's murderer live?”
“At the edge of the forest. Why?” She answered wiping her eyes.
“I need to ask him something,” Kage said as she got up and walked to the door.
Kage put her shoes on and walked outside. She took a deep breath to clear her head and set off walking. As she walked she thought of the things her mother had said to her. Her mother had always said that her father was a very powerful demon, but he was killed and by the sound of things very easily. Was her father as powerful as her mother had said? Or was this demon in the forest even more powerful than her father? These where questions that she would like to ask the man whole lived at the edge of the forest.
While Kage had gotten lost in her thoughts she had walked almost the entire way to the house so before she realised she was already there.
It was a small wooden house by the edge of the dense forest there was only one window and the door was a large piece of thick cloth, but the house looked like someone was living inside it still.
Assuming the man would be home she knocked on the doorframe loud enough so that he could hear. After she waited for a few seconds the door opened revealing a short, balding man who looked like he was at the end of his life.
“Yes?” He said looking at Kage.
“My mother said that you saw my father die. Is this true?” Kage asked.
“Ah yes. I'm afraid to say that it's true. Come in and I'll tell you of it.” The man answered sighing.
Kage followed the man into his home. The man's home inside looked smaller than it did on the outside. There was a small bedroom area, two comfortable looking chairs and a medium-sized gap in the wooden floor for a fire. One thing she also noticed was that the man was also a carpenter. Her eyes quickly skimmed over what he had created. She noticed one odd-looking piece of his work was a small ball that she wasn't sure weather it was something important. She didn't let the thought linger on her mind.
As the man reached the chair he offered the other chair to Kage so she sat down.
“Now, what do you want to know about your Father?” The man asked.
“I wanted to know how powerful my Father was and if possible could you tell me about his murderer.” Kage enquired.
“I have known your Father and Mother all my life and I know that your Father was a powerful demon who has protected this village for centuries, but this other demon looked frighteningly powerful. I'm sure that someone even stronger than your Father would not be able to survive against this other demon. I only captured a glimpse at your Father's murderer and from what I saw it looked like he had long silver hair and only had one arm by the look of it. He had a little girl as a companion who called him `Sesshoumaru'. There was also a little green imp demon with him as well. Your Father's death was instantaneous he would not have felt much pain. When he left I picked up what remained of your Father put it in a basket and ran over to your Mother's to tell her the unfortunate news. Your Mother has the basket now if you want to see.” He said.
Kage turned her head to the floor. It took her a moment to register what the man had said.
`So there are more powerful demons out there.' She thought to herself.
“Thank you for telling me this, I may talk to you again.” Kage said as she stood up to leave.
“Good bye and thank you for the company.” He said pushing the cloth door aside for her.
As Kage walked home she thought more deeply into what the man had said. “Sesshoumaru” the name of the powerful demon that killed her father. The name became similar to a bad taste in her mouth, a name she knew she would despise forever. She knew what she had to do; she had to somehow seek revenge for her father. However, she didn't know how powerful she was and was sure that this demon would kill her too, she would need some help, but from who? She didn't know any other powerful demons. Maybe something will come along to help her someday.
She then allowed the thoughts to escape her mind while she walked the rest of the way home.
Unfortunately for Kage, something had been listening to her conversation. It had finished obtaining it's information and went off high into the sky to give the information to its master.
