“What day was it Shesse-sama?” Kagome asked. Inuyasha answered the question,

“The 25th marriage anniversary of Father and Lady Naruca. That meant the end of 25 years of turmoil for the people and-” he was cut off by Shesse,

“14 years of suffering at her hands for Sesshoumaru. Of course, he didn't kill her on purpose. I would have, but he didn't use to be one to kill unnecessarily. Should I tell them the story Yasha-chan? Or will you?”

“I'll tell it Shesse.” he replied. He then turned to the whole group around the table, “Ok, so here's what happened. Naruca seemed to get bored with beating on Sesshoumaru, because he'd just keep getting up. So she came after me on a day that Father and Mother were gone somewhere, I think Mama went with Father to help him find an anniversary gift for Naruca. I was playing alone in the garden on the south side of the palace and Oniichama was out sparring with some of the guards somewhere. And of course, all the servants were around, but were too scared of Naruca to do anything. So she came up behind me and threw me against a tree in the garden. She called me a worthless child, a putrid hanyou, and a disgrace. Then she kicked me.....hard. Then she picked me up and started scratching me and burning me with a fire spell. She was a horrible woman! Just then she dropped me......out of no where. I got up as fast as any 9 year old would after receiving a beating like that and hid behind the tree I had been thrown against. She fell and there, standing above the bloody mess was Sesshoumaru.”

 

FLASHBACK

 

An angry demon teen, with a sword in his hand and eyes glowing red, fangs bared stood above a hardly alive woman. “HOW DARE YOU TOUCH HIM!” the boy yelled at her, “DIE BITCH DIE!” He stabbed her again. A gasp escaped the young hanyou's lips as he watched his brother's actions and a swift breath escaped the woman before she finally gave in, and died. When the hanyou decided it was safe to venture out from behind the tree, he approached his brother carefully.

“Oniichama?” Sesshoumaru's eyes came back to normal and he was himself again.

“Yasha-kun.....” he looked down at his mother and stared in horror as his eyes moved to his bloodied sword, his eyes brought on a look of sadness and tears began to form in them, “What have I done?!?” He yelled and fell on his knees beside his mother, “What will father say? What will HE do to me?!?” Sesshoumaru was frantic. He hadn't meant to kill his mother, it was an accident, but how likely was his father to believe that?

“Oniichama?” Sesshoumaru's teary eyes went from his mother's lifeless form to his horribly bruised brother,

“Yasha! What happened to you?!?” he scooped up the boy in his arms.

“Naruca-sama came and hurt me while you were gone.” Sesshoumaru's face hardened.

“That horrible bitch! Hurting a little kid who she has no rights to touch in the first place. But still, what will father say?”

“Just tell him it was an accident Maru-chan.” Princess Shesse came over to them, with Princess Jade in suit.

“Shesse!” Sesshoumaru grabbed her into an embrace, “Thank God you're here. What am I going to do?” Shesse stroked his hair. She was far more level headed than he was and it was a good match that Inu no Taishou had made.

“Let's not forget Maru-chan, your Father has a very keen nose. He'll be able to pick up the scent of what she was doing to Yasha-kun.” Jade took Inuyasha's hand in hers and said,

“Come on Inu-chan! Let's go play by Mama-san's* roses!” She dragged him off and left her sister to comfort The High Prince. Sesshoumaru took in a quivering breath as he clung to Shesse.

“You're right Darling. My father isn't THAT stupid. His nose will tell him what happened here. But.....”

“But what Maru-chan?” He looked up at her.

“Help me explain to him it was an accident what I've done to her.”

“Of course.”

“Thank you.” He pulled back from her and kissed her for the very first time. It was then they both knew that that moment was what would keep them in love forever and ever.

END FLASHBACK

 

“Jade and I were watching from behind Mother's flowers,” he laughed softly, “We both yelled 'EWWW! And then-”

“Ran and tackled Sesshoumaru and I.” Shesse cut in, “That was fun. You two ruined the moment, but it was fun, seeing you two smiling so big. But anyways, Sesshoumaru was hit harder than anyone with the death of his mother. Its taken him 16 years now to rid himself of her memory. But the guilt lives on in him.”

“So you see Rin, that's why Sessh needs Shesse and not you,” He paused, “He needs her, because she has made his sad past disappear. I think the reason he was so cold to you was because you reminded him of his sister, whom his mother killed 7 years prior to her own death. Her name was Aradia. You look exactly like her.” He pointed to a portrait directly beside Naruca's. He was right. She looked exactly the same as Rin. Kagome looked thoughtful,

“Aradia? Isn't that the name of the accursed Witch Princess? I think the name means Goddess of Witches. Is that right?” Inuyasha nodded.

“At least you learn something at that ridiculous place you call school. The Witch Demon Princess was his sister. She died at the age of 10. No one knows why Naruca killed her. It just happened.”
