Sorry that this chapter took so long. I went to my parent's for Thanksgiving and had to concentrate on my family. I'm back now though and feeling my oats. In the next chapter things will begin to move more quickly and there will be lemon action all along. Look for a big, fat, sour lemon coming up in about 2 - 3 chapters. Oh, and by the way, I noticed that noone has posted a Kouga/Kagome lemon for me, sniff, sniff (author crying). Come on, I am so impressed by all the talent out there, don't make me beg (although I will). Please, Please, Please will someone write a Kouga/Kagome lemon for me???!!!!

Chapter 11 - The Mission Resumes

Kagome was in shock. Kouga...a part of their group. Of all the unlikely partners, Kagome had always assumed it was a matter of pride for Kouga to attempt to seek out and destroy Naraku on his own. Unable to be silent about this new development, Kagome waited till Kouga joined her on the path to ask "Why?" Kouga smiled and spoke in a low tone to Kagome. "I am here to make sure that you can do your job. Think of me as your personal samurai. In the past, my pride has meant much to me but there is a lot more at stake now. I cannot afford to lose you now, Kagome. If that were to happen, my defeat of Naraku would be meaningless. I am only here to help you."

Kagome blushed at Kouga's heartfelt words. Lately, he seemed to be making a habit out of surprising her with his gentle nature and sweetness. It was only when he was touching her that she could feel the animal rising under the gentle demon. Strangely this excited her also. The barely restrained animal loved and desired her as much as the demon did.

"I think it's time to push on." Sango remarked. Miroku agreed and gestured for Inuyasha to begin the procession. Still muttering under his breath, Inuyasha set a fast pace south. This was the latest suspected path of Naraku. Kouga grasped Kagome's hand lightly and began to lead her on. All day they marched in this fashion. At times, Kouga suspected Inuyasha of taking the most difficult path available; they kept running through dense foliage instead of taking the beaten paths that Kouga knew were close by. The walk was mainly silent except for Inuyasha's occasional tense queries about the general direction of Kagome's shard senses.

Kagome herself bore up well under the tiring conditions. However, Inuyasha continued to press on even after the woods had fallen dark and travelling safely had become nearly impossible. Kagome never once complained but Kouga could see the exhaustion lining her face. It was doubly difficult for her since she was now forced to concentrate nonstop to sense not only youkai threats but also the direction of the shards. Kouga mentally noted how important vision seemed to be for humans.

"Oi, Inuyasha." Kouga called. "That's it for today. We can't go any further in this brush in the dark!" Inuyasha snorted. "I lead this group and I decide when we stop. It ain't now." He continued walking on. Kouga stopped and pulled Kagome close to him. He picked her up as she protested and cradled her against his chest. "I'm too heavy for you to carry! I'm doing just fine." "I know you are." He replied. "You are forgetting I'm a demon and you are as light as air for me. It's no hardship and I like to help you. Again, do this for me.....allow me to do this because I want to." Kagome nodded slightly, feeling pleasantly overwhelmed. Kouga continued walking behind Inuyasha.

Inuyasha wondered what Kouga was whispering to Kagome. His mind was whirling with ideas as to how to get Kagome back by his side. Dammit! She had promised to stay with him, by his side, no mention had ever been made of adding a scruffy wolf to the mix. He stopped suddenly and turned, intent on asking Kagome which direction to take since the way had opened up into a wider path and there were two possible routes. Turning, he caught sight of Kouga cradling Kagome against his chest. Infuriated he began striding back intending to wrest her from that dirty wolf's grasp. As Inuyasha reached Kouga, Kagome sighed and turned her face into his chest, reached up and placed her arms around Kouga's neck. "She's asleep, you bastard." Kouga hissed. "If you want to go on with this moronic march, I'm game, I can out walk you any day. However, don't think for even a moment that I'll let you come back here and wake her up for no reason. She stays asleep, got it?"

"Well, we can't keep going without a direction, asshole!" Inuyasha replied in a biting tone. "So I guess we camp here for the night. Wolf, you'd better be on your guard in your sleep, you never know when something might sneak up on you and slit your throat!"

Kouga nodded, catching the double meaning. Sango, wishing to ease the tension, said cheerfully, "Let's eat!" She began boiling water for noodles and retrieved the packages from Kagome's backpack. When the water had boiled she prepared the noodles and offered them to her companions. Kouga took his share and allowed Shippo to help him carry Kagome's share over to a large log. Kouga sat down and arranged Kagome comfortably on his lap. He accepted the noodles and was about to turn to wake Kagome up when Shippo leaned over to him and began to whisper. "I'm glad you're with us now. I know Kagome's glad too. I'll help you any way I can. I know where Inuyasha was that night too." "Don't tell Kagome." Kouga replied. "She has enough to worry about right now." "Got it!" Said Shippo and he then returned to his perch in a high tree limb.

Kouga gently shook Kagome. "Wake up, love. You've got to eat something." Inuyasha glared daggers across the fire at the mention of the word 'love'. Kagome stirred and sat up. "Kouga, what's going on?" Inuyasha broke in at this, frustrated at being ignored. "We're at a campsite. The wolf couldn't walk anymore so we stopped." "Kouga, are you alright?" Kagome asked worriedly. "I'm fine." Kouga answered, keeping a deadly gaze steady on Inuyasha. "Even we super speedy wolves get tired now and then." Kagome giggled at this. Kouga did not want her to think that they had stopped because of her. She had enough to deal with without believing that she was slowing the group down.

The wolf prince helped Kagome finish her dinner. When she was finished, Kouga lifted her to her feet and asked her if she would like a bath. Kagome nodded. "I'm sorry but the nearest water is a large creek. It's going to be very cold. Do you mind?" "No, I want to get clean, I feel absolutely filthy." Kagome answered.

"I'm taking Kagome for her bath." Kouga announced. "Lady Kagome, do you need an extra pair of hands?" Miroku offered. "No she does not and if you want yours to stay attached to your wrists I suggest you refrain from making selfless offers such as that one." Sango told him sweetly. Inuyasha was looking affronted throughout this exchange. "Kagome can bathe on her own, wolf. She doesn't need any help from you. Why doesn't Sango help her?" Kouga looked down at Kagome. "Kagome, it's up to you, I can help you or Sango can." Kagome looked thoughtful for a moment. "Maybe it would be better for Sango to help me. I don't have any more robes to bathe in and since the water is cold, I'd like to be done as soon as possible." Understanding her logic but undeniably disappointed, Kouga nodded. He could hopefully still convince her to sleep with him tonight.

Sango led Kagome to the creek and helped her get ready. She put soap and shampoo in Kagome's hands allowing her to wash herself. They began to talk quietly. They were giggling over the tension between Inuyasha and Kouga. "I wonder how much longer Inuyasha will restrain himself. I can't believe he hasn't tried to kill Kouga yet. I 'm really impressed but a little confused." Kagome commented. Sango felt guilty but understood the reasoning for keeping certain information from Kagome for now.

"So, how was your stay with Kouga? You seem very relaxed and happy, Kagome." Sango stated. Kagome blushed and replied. "He was very kind and he took excellent care of me."

"Come on, Kagome, tell me. What was it really like?" Sango was dying to hear all the details.

"Oh, Sango, he was wonderful. He is so open and he loves me so much. My feelings toward him are so different and mixed up now." Kagome paused and then seemed resolved. "However, none of that can change the path in front of me. No matter what, I have to complete the Shikon no Tama and expel it from this world. I have to keep my promise to Inuyasha, I owe him my loyalty for his protection. I can't waver, even for a minute. Besides, I have feelings still for Inuyasha." Kagome finished, her mind screaming 'Not the same feelings you have for Kouga!'

Sango was thinking very uncharitable thoughts about a certain dog demon. Kagome was so loyal, so bent on keeping her promise to the hanyou. In the meantime, Inuyasha was using Kagome, breaking his promises of protection to her, and stealing away her chance for happiness. Silently, Sango resolved to help Kouga by any means necessary. Kagome deserved to be happy.

"I think you should pay very close attention to Kouga's words and actions. Don't dismiss what he is offering so readily. You can complete your task and still have a great love in your life. I think you have a love of Inuyasha as a friend and you have mistaken it for more. Have you noticed that your feelings for Kouga are different?"

"Well, yes." Kagome answered and began to blush.

"What is the deal with that blush, Kagome? What happened between you two that you're not telling me?" Sango demanded.

"I just never realized how physical love could be." Kagome replied.

"I see." Sango wisely decided to leave it at that for now.

The girls finished up, dressed, and returned to camp to find Inuyasha, Kouga, and Miroku locked in a staring contest. Kouga was the first one to break when he noticed Kagome's return. "I'm going to get washed up too." He announced.

Miroku decided to join him and left Inuyasha, the girls, and Shippo at the camp. Inuyasha stared at Kagome for a minute and then walked over to her. "Kagome, let's talk." He grasped her hand and began to lead her away. Sango considered stopping him but then decided to simply let Kouga handle the situation. Inuyasha led Kagome to the log she and Kouga had eaten their dinner against. "What is going on with you and Kouga? I can smell him all over you. He only wants the jewel, he won't stick around after he gets his filthy paws on it. Why can't you just trust me to deal with things the way I always have? Don't you have faith in me anymore?" Inuyasha was attempting to play on all of Kagome's weak points where he was concerned. He knew that she never wanted him to believe that she had lost faith in him.

"It's not that Inuyasha. I always have faith in you. Kouga is a good fighter and he will do the best he can to watch over me so you can fight unhindered. I don't want to be a burden to you."

"Oh, Kagome, you are never a burden. I would watch out for you anyway, he can't protect you like I can."

Inuyasha moved to embrace Kagome and strangely she felt nothing. Always before she had anticipated his embraces, even starved for them. Now all she could think was that she was betraying Kouga.

"Let me go Inuyasha, please." But Inuyasha merely tightened his grip. "I care for you Kagome, I do. Please don't ruin what we have over that stupid wolf."

"I believe she asked you to let her go." Kouga stood tensely staring at the two. Kagome gasped at the sound of his voice. He stepped forward and glared menacingly at Inuyasha.

Kagome managed to push herself away from Inuyasha and Kouga moved forward to stand behind her. "Come on, Kagome, let's find a comfortable place to sleep."

Kagome's mind was still confused. How could her feelings have changed so rapidly? What were these feelings she now harbored for Kouga? She knew it wasn't simple lust because her mind was as drawn to him as much as her body was. She allowed Kouga to lead her over to a large tree and let him pick her up while he leaped onto a high branch.

"Kouga, I.." "It's okay." He stopped her. "Rest, you can ponder all this in the morning. For tonight, simply rest."

He settled himself against the tree limb and cuddled her close between his legs. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and held her tightly, putting his nose in her hair. Kagome drowsily noticed that she could feel his long, silky, wet hair spilling over his shoulders and onto her face. It smelled so good.

Her deep, even breathing soon told him that she had fallen asleep and Kouga began to lightly doze, ever mindful of Inuyasha's earlier threat/warning.

It was sometime in the early hours just after midnight that Kagome stirred. Her dreams had been hot and full of images of Kouga and herself in their field. She was uncomfortable and realized that she wanted him, badly. Kouga was stirred from his slumber by the intense scent of Kagome's arousal. He found that he had somehow inserted his hand into Kagome's kimono and was resting it lightly on her belly. Moaning lightly he drew his claws over her midsection, also drawing a moan from Kagome. His intended mate was experiencing the desire born of intimate contact with another. Unfulfilled intimate contact. Although he had ensured Kagome's orgasm in the field, there was much left undone and Kagome's body instinctively knew that. It wanted more. Eventually, if she could come to love him alone, it would consume her and she would come to him for relief. For now, it was his job to provide the teasing needed to draw her further along the path.

Kouga began to suck lightly on the sensitive flesh along the side of Kagome's neck. He also began to whisper nonsensical love words against her neck. Kagome was drawn in by the seductive nature of Kouga's actions. His hand moved up to lightly cover her breast and stroke his claws over her nipple. He began to squeeze and mold the mound of flesh under his palm. His other hand moved down her belly and into her undergarments, drawing one clawed finger over her slit. The wolf demon could feel the moisture already beginning to weep from the opening. The girl squirmed in his arms, rubbing her smooth backside over his obvious erection.

Kouga sharply drew in a breath and concentrated on the task at hand, knowing he could not ease his arousal yet. He dipped a finger past her nether lips and into her wet heat. "So wet." He murmured. "So hot." "Uhhh..." Kagome responded. He plunged the finger inside her and then drew back rubbing across her engorged jewel. Immediately responding to the familiar touch, Kagome's clit poked out to meet Kouga's finger. Lightly, Kouga rubbed his finger back and forth while at the same time he massaged her breast and licked her neck. Kagome was moaning softly and arching against his hand when Kouga began to pinch the jewel also, massaging it with his wet finger and thumb. Kagome could feel the ache tensing up her lower belly. She knew it wouldn't be long.

Kouga intensified the rubbing, hoping to bring her climax on soon. Tomorrow, he vowed, he would find a place far away from the others and he would tease her forever. For now, he wanted to give her an orgasm before anyone else noticed the sounds she was making....or the scent she was giving off. Suddenly Kagome arched and twisted around, forcing her face into Kouga's neck. "Ooooo, uhhh, oh Kouga." She gasped out against his throat.

Kouga smiled in satisfaction before he pushed Kagome back and claimed her lips. Rubbing his tongue lightly over her lips, he began to nip at her tongue as she kissed him open-mouthed, still gasping for air. The kiss was wet and very hot. Kouga groaned against her mouth but then broke the kiss. He settled her again against his lap and began to rub her stomach. Kagome was soon drawing deep breaths again, signifying her descent into sleep once more. Kouga extended his senses a little, checking for any danger. He could sense Hakkaku and Ginta close by and knew that they would meet them tomorrow. Other than the two of them, the woods were quiet.

Kouga allowed himself to sink into the daze of sleep once more, halfway between the world of the waking and the world of the sleeping. Not once, however, did his grip on Kagome relax.
