"Hmm... "
Miroku glanced over towards the girl by the fire, curious about the magazine that she was currently reading and writing notes on. Her giggling every so often was making meditation a bit more difficult than usual, as he had to fight down the urge to move over and find out what was so entertaining. Just as he was focusing once again, she broke into a peal of laughter, the sweet sound of her melodious giggles finally snapping his resolve. Opening his eyes, he turned his head and smiled when they settled on her shaking form.
She lay face down on her stomach, wearing a pink set of pj's with a rainbow and cloud print on them. Wiping tears from her eyes, she seemed to realize someone was watching her and turned with a bright smile and a light blush on her cheeks. "Gomen Miroku, did I disrupt your meditating?"
"Its all right Kagome-sama, I was finished," he smiled and moved forward, coming to sit beside her. "May I ask what you find so amusing?"
She giggled again before regaining control and leaning up on her elbows, holding up a small mirror in one hand for a moment. Looking down into it, she pouted her lips, frowned for a second and turned to ask with the exagerated pout still in place, "Do you think they look like fish lips?"
Miroku blinked, staring down at the rosy lips innocently lifted towards him. Thanks to her strawberry lip gloss, a paste she'd told Sango was to help keep them moisturized and from chapping, they shimmered enchantingly in the soft light from the fire. Mezmerized by the glistening of the cream on her pout, he once again snapped out of it at the sound of her voice.
"Ne, Miroku?"
"Hmm? Oh, hai?" he saw her tilt her head to the side and frown.
"You agree?!" looking back down at the mirror, she pouted again, for real this time and sighed. "Fish lips?"
"Oh, iie!" Miroku quickly apologized, "I was still slightly dazed from my meditation Kagome-sama, forgive me, I do not believe you have the lips of a fish."
With a chuckle, he saw her smile and bit her lower lip, "Might I ask who told you this lie?"
Kagome giggled again and shook her head, "I was taking a test, based on the answers given they say what types of lips you have."
Miroku nodded, not really understanding the reason for the quiz, "And what might the purpose of that be?"
"Oh, they're just for fun, kind of to find out more about your personality," Kagome shrugged, "Here's how they describe a person with fish lips."
~~~
You get your lip personality from your fun-loving, funny-girl approach to life! Wherever you are and whatever you're doing, you like to have a good time. And using humor to inflate or defuse situations is a skill you've practically perfected. Sure, good looks — they're great. Intelligence — it's important. But witty banter is what sets you apart from the rest. Like water to a fish, humor's something you just can't live without. No matter what form your lips take, we're sure you never lose sight of the fact that making people feel comfortable, making them laugh, and sharing the fun is how you prefer to go through life. So pucker up!
~~~
"What do you think? Sound right?" Kagome raised her head from the magazine and saw him nod.
"Yes that does sound like you Kagome-sama, its an interesting analysis," Miroku gave her a gentle smile and looked up when Shippo cried out in his sleep.
The kitsune lay in Kagome's sleeping bag, having tired himself out after a day of running around and playing with Kirara. Sango sat a few meters away behind a large tree, staring out at the field in a melancholy, isolated manner they knew well enough. With everything she'd been through, they could hardly blame the girl for being sad at times. She'd seen her people killed by her brother's hand and continually had to watch as Naraku controlled the boy. She had a right to wish for some solitude and they all respected her moods and left her be when needed.
Inuyasha was gone, as he always was on the night of the new moon. He'd made sure they were set up before sundown so he could be long gone by the time his transformation occured. Despite the fact that they all knew of it and had seen him, the hanyou was still not comfortable being around anyone in his most vulnerable form.
To Miroku's surprise, Kagome sat up suddenly and gave him a beaming smile, "Want to know about yours?"
"Mine?" The startled monk's eyes widened.
Kagome nodded and showed him the magazine, "What your lips say about you? Would you like to find out? Its aimed towards women, since its a feminine magazine, but that's ok. It'd just be for fun anyways right?"
"Well... it does sound interesting," Miroku hesitated a moment, fighting down a smile when she met hopeful eyes towards his. There was a sparkle in them that was rarely directed his way, but that he had longed to see more than once. Under that gaze, how could he refuse? So he found himself silently nodding and engulfed by a pair of arms around his neck.
"Wai! Thank you!" Without thinking, Kagome gave him a quick peck on the cheeks before sitting back and grabbing her paper and pen, seating herself more comfortably in the lotus position.
Still feeling the warmth of her lips on his cheek, Miroku followed suit and sat across from her in the same manner, legs crossed, hands resting on his knees. He waited and listened to her clear her throat and ask her first question.
"All right Miroku, number one,"
1- Lips are best used when they are:
A. Smooching
B. Gossiping
C. Conversing
D. Giggling
E. Sealed
"Hmm... this is my choice?" Miroku rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
Kagome giggled, "Yes, and you know as well as I do what your answer is!"
Giving a nod, he smiled back, watching her write down his answer while her lips formed a silent 'A'.
2- What's most important in a long relationship?
A. Keeping a sense of humor
B. Keeping a healthy sex life
C. Keeping communication lines open
D. Keeping respect for one another
"Although communication is important, as is respect of course..."
"Say no more, sex it is," Kagome shook her head a little and jotted down 'B'.
3- You tend to keep secrets:
A. As if they were my own
B. When they are my own
C. Most of the time
D. When I feel like it
"That is easy, I am a man of the cloth, I keep secrets as though they were my own," Miroku answered, his dignified manner of sitting up showing how much he actually believed what he'd said.
Kagome smirked by said nothing, biting her tongue from the laugh that threatened to escape. He seemed to sense it and slumped with a frown, muttering sullenly, "Well I CAN keep secrets to myself."
"True," Kagome patted his knee with a reassuring smile.
4- Your best flirting is done when you're:
A. Talking intimately
B. Batting my eyes
C. Dancing provocatively
D. Laughing hysterically
E. Staring intently
"Now lets see... what would you say? How is my lash batting?" He preened and batted his lashes playfully.
Kagome laughed and slapped his arm before resting her elbow on her knee and setting her chin in her palm, "What IS your flirting strategy? Besides groping and asking women to bear your child?"
"I'm not sure," Miroku stopped and looked her in the eye, staring intently into her soft brown orbs for what seemed an eternity before a snapping twig in the fire brought them out of their daze.
Looking down at the paper, Kagome re-read the options with a blush on her cheeks, answering for him.
5- What's funnier?
A. Political jokes
B. Relationship jokes
C. Dirty jokes
D. Knock-knock jokes
"Easy," Kagome and Miroku readily agreed.
6-. You usually like your lipstick:
A. Red
B. Brown
C. Pink
D. With sun block
"I don't know what suits me best, but I believe pink wouldn't do too badly," Miroku took up her mirror and stared at his reflection. "What do you advise Kagome-sama? Would a pink do? or a red? I don't believe brown would suit me at all."
Kagome smiled but kept from openly grinning, moving instead to cup his chin and turn it towards the fire. "Mm... to be honest I believe a cranberry would be more your color, but in this case go with the pink."
"I suppose that will have to do," Miroku feigned a dissapointed sigh and shrugged.
7- Kissing is best when it's:
A. Nonstop
B. Creative
C. Gentle
D. Playful
E. Passionate
Miroku frowned thoughtfully, sitting back a moment and rubbing his chin, "Now that one is a tricky one."
Kagome nodded, "I thought so too, I was torn between four options, can you believe it? Four out of five!"
"And which were those?" Miroku asked, curious to know about her preferences. [For no specific reason of course, I am not, after all, thinking of kissing her.] Nodding to himself, he listened in to her options.
"All but A," Kagome tapped her pen against the paper, seeming to concentrate again on the question.
[Creative, gentle, playful and passionate - definite qualities found in Kagome herself.] Miroku bit the inside of his cheek and thought of kissing her in each of those ways, concentrating again when she spoke.
"I finally settled on creative, because I suppose that could include the others right?" Kagome asked. "I mean if a person is creative, then they must incorporate passion and playfullness and gentleness at some moment of the creativity. Its hard to think of a creative kiss actually."
[Oh I could easily show you my dear]
"Quite right," he agreed and mentally slapped himself for his response, "I would have to say my favorite however, is a passionate kiss."
"I thought so," Kagome wrote down his answer and continued.
8- What's worse?
A. Chapped hands
B. Chapped lips
"Lips"
They both said it out loud and grinned at their unanimous answer.
9-. On a first date you usually:
A. Let him do the talking
B. Ask questions, answer questions
C. Talk up a storm
D. Tell jokes to break the ice
"That should be easy enough for you to guess," Miroku smiled and waited.
Kagome nodded, biting her lip again while asking, "Tell jokes to break the ice?"
"Exactly"
10- What's the first thing you notice about someone's smile?
A. How big it is
B. How white their teeth are
C. Whether or not it's for me
D. The twinkle in their eye that accompanies it
"C" Miroku quickly answered, "What smile is incomplete if lacking a certain twinkle?"
"Of course," Kagome agreed somberly, her own eyes twinkling in amusement.
11- What's sexier?
A. Her brain
B. Her body
C. Her laugh
D. Her heart
E. Her bank account
"No duh," Kagome rolled her eyes and lifted her pencil, surprised by the response he gave.
"Her heart"
"Heart?" Kagome blinked and looked up into his eyes, "I thought..."
Miroku spread his arms in a small shrug, "What can I say? The body is important, but even the most beautiful body is easily tarnished if it lacks a good heart."
"Right," Kagome stared into his eyes again, and saw he truly meant his words. "That's..."
"Surprising?" Miroku raised an eyebrow at her.
She shook her head and frowned a little, "Sort of, but I was going to say it was sweet."
"Oh," Miroku rubbed the back of his neck and smiled sheepishly while she wrote down his choice.
12- You lick your lips:
A. When they're dry
B. When I'm concentrating
C. When I'm nervous
D. When I'm flirting
"You do it when you're nervous," he pointed out, "Although you don't so much as lick them, but rather bite your lower lip."
"You've noticed?" Kagome looked up from the magazine in surprise.
Miroku hesitated and gave a nod, "I notice a lot of things."
"About everything around you?" Kagome asked
[Mostly about you] Miroku nodded again and said no more, waiting for the next question.
13- Do you make the first move?
A. Absolutely!
B. Absolutely not!
No comment was made, simply a shared look and wry smile giving their answer.
14. Taste test. Would you prefer something:
A. Sweet
B. Sour
C. Bitter
D. Spicy
E. Salty
"I don't know..." Miroku thought it over for a moment, surprised to hear her give her opinion.
"You like spicy food"
He looked up to her blushing face and inwardly smiled, warmed by the fact that she knew, "How can you be sure?"
She kept her eyes lowered and unthinkingly chewed her lip, finally saying only, "You're not the only one who notices things."
"Hmm..."
Leaving it at that, he watched her write down his answer and proceeded to listen again.
15- Your lips just can't get enough:
A. Of other lips
B. Smiling
C. Smirking
D. Gabbing
"That's GABBING by the way, not GRABBING, no R," Kagome clarified quickly, seeing him about to make some remark.
"In that case, A," Miroku decided, ignoring her 'why am I not surprised' comment.
16- Reading lips is:
A. Easy if you know you're doing
B. A good party trick
C. Really hard
"That would be A once again," Miroku watched her nod and begin tallying up his score, checking the results on the next page.
A small shake of her head was accompanied by a wide grin as she lifted the magazine up between them and read the description to him. "All right Mr Flaming Lips here goes,"
~~~
~~~
A moment of silence followed that, broken by Miroku's small smirk, "Did they really write down that 'hot stuff' comment?"
"You didn't think I added it did you?" Kagome giggled and showed handed him the magazine, pointing to the results that matched his point total.
"So you have fish lips and I have flaming lips?" Miroku chuckled and set the magazine down, surprised to raise his head and find her only inches away.
She'd leaned forward when she handed him the magazine, reading the results she'd gotten again while he read his. They both froze at their proximity, their noses were nearly touching and their eyes were close enough that Miroku could see the flecks of gold mixed in her brown orbs. Focusing on her lips when they opened in surprise, he swallowed thickly when her lip was once again pulled into her mouth settling into place seconds later, shinier and moist.
Before the chance went away, he lowered his head a bit to steal a kiss but stopped himself when her eyes widened. Freezing just milimeters from her lips, he met her eyes again and saw the hesitation in them, realizing what he was about to do and that she was still in love with another. He was about to pull back when she moved up and grazed her lips over his.
Giving in to his earlier wish, he cupped her chin and tilted her head, slowly brushing his mouth against hers before adding to the pressure. Their kiss was soft and gentle, warm but with no burning desire, merely a comforting touch, a bonding of sorts in a deeper way. Melding their lips together tenderly, they moved closer, Miroku's arms moving to hold her in a sweet embrace while her body scooted forward a little and her hands rested against his chest for support.
After a few more butterfly kisses and a peck to her nose, Miroku pulled back and smiled, resting his forehead against hers. Kagome brushed their noses together, smiling back while his hand cupping her cheek gently toyed with her ear. For the moment the world around them seemed to disappear, leaving only the two of them and the soft glow of the fire's embers.
They remained that way for what seemed a small eternity, eyes locked together intimately, but of course all good things must come to an end. Shippo's voice calling out for Kagome broke the enchanted spell that seemed to have settled over them, making her sit back and look away, focusing on the kitsune tossing in her bedding. He whimpered and called for her again, apparently caught in a bad dream involving his surrogate mother.
Hurrying over to his side, Kagome picked up the kit and held him close, whispering soft reassurances into his ear while allowing her scent to surround him and calm his troubled dreaming. It was something she'd done before, although it didn't happen quite as often anymore. "Its ok Shippo-chan, I'm right here..."
Waking with one last cry, Shippo blinked up at her and sniffled, wrapping his arms around her neck in relief. "Kagome I had that dream again! The one where you were killed right there in front of me and I couldn't save you!"
"Don't worry itoshii, I'm not going anywhere," Kagome kissed his cheek and nuzzled his neck the way she'd found he liked.
"But what if we get attacked when Inuyasha's not here? You could get hurt," Shippo clung to her tightly.
Miroku took a seat beside Kagome, close enough so she could feel the warmth from his body at her back. Raising his beaded hand, he gently stroked the kit's ears and added to her efforts. "Do not worry about Inuyasha's absence Shippo-chan, Kagome-sama is not alone and you know that neither you, nor Sango nor I will allow her to come to harm."
"Hai, you'll keep me safe," Kagome spoke to Shippo but looked up into Miroku's eyes, seeing the silent promise in them.
After a few more minutes of silently breathing in her scent and allowing them to soothe him, Shippo nodded and made himself comfortable, falling deeply asleep once again. With a small smile to Miroku, Kagome slipped into her sleeping bag and snuggled into her pillow.
While she settled in, Sango seemed to have had enough of her solitude and moved back towards her own bedding, frowning at the monk staring at her friend. "What are you thinking Houshi-sama?"
With a chuckle, Miroku shook his head and moved away, resting his back against a nearby tree and closing his eyes. "Nothing much my dear taijiya... for some reason I was thinking of fish."
[Fish?]
A small laugh came from Kagome's direction, but with the blanket pulled up it was hard to know who it had come from. Sango glanced between the monk and Kagome, wondering what that could mean for a moment before deciding she'd never figure the hentai out and getting under her blanket. [In all honesty, I'm not really sure I want to know.]
Miroku kept his face blank but inwardly grinned at the sound of her laugh, going back and thinking of the kiss they'd shared. [Hai, some fish sounds pretty good right about now...]

B. Smiling
C. Smirking

Just a quick M/K fluff piece. I haven't written many for them (actually just one before) so let me know what you think ok?
Thanks!
