A/N: while the original idea for this story is not mine and comes from an old fairytale, I do believe that I am the first one to turn it into an Inuyasha fan fiction. If you have seen a fan fiction similar to this one before, I assure you it was not my intent, as I have not seen one, and actually would be quite disappointed to learn that I was not the first to do this story. I’ve always loved this story since I was a kid and thought that it would make a nice little fic for the Inuyasha feudal fairytale players to act out for your enjoyment. And I hope you do enjoy it.
Oh, and a small P.S here - I was really excited about this chapter so though I would post it now even though I don’t have a betta, so any errors or blunders that you encounter I do apologise for, and will work to get them buffered out as soon as possible. If anyone is interested in bettaing, please let me know, thanks: ) Now without further delay - on with the story!
But the son had not loved and had not been loved, and so one day when the king was feeling particularly the wears and tears of his age, Inu no Taishou sent for his son.
“Inuyasha, my son, as you know I am well into the years of my old age and soon I shall no longer see the trees and the flowers, nor shall I feel the kindly kiss of the sun.” The king began, in his slow and practiced speech. “But before I die I would see you happily mated to a good woman so that there may once more be a King and Queen in our dear land after I’m gone.”
Inuyasha, for once not his usual brash self, sat quietly and listened to his much-loved father speak, before he responded. “Yes you are old, father, but to speak of your death? YOU the great dog demon Lord and mighty ruler Inu no Taishou? It is silly to think or even to speak of the end of your glorious reign. And as for a mate, I do indeed wish for it myself - only I have never yet met a princess whom I could love… and indeed father, none that could love me.”
The King listened carefully to his sons words, considering them, before he reached into a deep pocket in his rich and lavish robes and produced a gold key. He spoke again at length, saying, “My son, light and joy of my life as you are, especially since the passing of your mother, you are foolish to think me so immortal as all that. True I have lived longer and so should I have, than most and am stronger than most, but even my time must too come.” The king paused, letting a silence stretch between them for a moment, before continuing, “I would not have my son live a life of loneliness, as will surely befall you if you wait much longer to marry, for any marriage after my death shall be purely of convenience and the woman will not love you.” He held out his had, again producing the golden key.
“Take this key, Inuyasha, and climb to the top of the highest tower in the castle keep. Look carefully at all that is in the locked room and choose which you like best. Return to me quickly with your answer.”
Feeling the weight of his father’s words on him, the young prince took the key and with not another word of argument, left the room, heading for the many winding stairs that led to the tower.
Now being near 20 years, Inuyasha had indeed explored most of the entire of the castle, but this was the first time he was being allowed to venture up into the room that was now his destination.
Upon finally reaching the top, Inuyasha found himself on a small landing facing a elegantly carved door. He walked to it in two quick strides and brought the key to the lock, placing it inside and slowly turning it, until he heard the familiar ‘click’ of it coming unlocked.
Once inside, Inuyasha released a gasp in awe of what he saw.
The young prince stood now in a room painted of the most beautiful deep royal blue, that reached all of the walls and climbed up and over the entire ceiling. And the walls and ceiling were painted with the most lovely gold and silver coloured stars, making the walls and ceiling resemble the night sky.
The floor of the room was completely hidden under the most lush and softest carpet even he, who had grown up surrounded by the lushest and softest silks and velvets had never before felt. It was of the greenest green, more so than even the greenest grass.
But as magnificent as the room itself was, it was not what had the prince struck with awe, for he had seen many, many magnificent things in his life. No, indeed it was what lay across the room from him that had so caught his attention.
All along the far wall were twelve windows, framed with gold that let in the glorious light from the sun as it streamed in through the beautiful painted glass. And in each of the windows there stood, shaped in the painted glass, a woman. Each more lovely than the last.
A/N, ok, I hope that was a good place to end off this chapter for now. Let me know what you think of it : )

Once upon a time in a far away county there was a magnificent kingdom that was ruled by a fair and just dog-demon Lord, Inu no Taishou. Now the king had but one son, who although he was Hanyou - something frowned upon by most - the king loved him better than anything else in the world. But the son had not loved and had not been loved, and so one day when the king was feeling particularly the wears and tears of his age, Inu no Taishou sent for his son.
