Chapter 7-Inuyasha’s Antics

Sango sighed with pleasure as she lowered herself into the hot spring. It had been so long since she and Kagome had had the pleasure of bathing in hot water, since the youkai attacks in the region had diminished substantially after the fall of Naraku. There just wasn’t much reason left to travel anymore. She almost considered it lucky that a nearby village had sought out their help in exterminating the den of moth youkai near their village. She sighed again…’too easy.’(not that she was complaining)

Kagome sat next to her, with the same look of bliss upon her face. Sango interrupted her train of thought, “Kagome?”

“Hmmm?” Kagome replied without opening her eyes.

“Have you noticed anything strange about Inuyasha’s behavior, lately?” asked Sango.

Kagome blushed, she thought she might know some of the reasons for Inuyasha’s change behavior, but didn’t care to talk about it yet. “What do you mean?” she asked

Sango sighed, “Oh, I don’t know… he seems…happy…like, almost …giddy…” she said with a small frown, “Do you think he’s sick?”

Kagome couldn’t help but laugh at Sango’s concern, but looked at her apologetically when she noticed Sango’s frown had deepened. “No, Sango. I don’t think that he’s sick.” Kagome giggled, “Maybe he’s taken too many blows to the head, though…” She just couldn’t contain herself anymore and her snickers turned into full out gales of laughter, as Sango looked at her with a helplessly confused look on her face.

***************

The girls returned to the campsite feeling happy and relaxed after their bath, and promptly began making themselves ready for sleep. Inuyasha’s eyes followed Kagome to her sleeping bag, and he couldn’t help but notice her scent. ‘She smells so happy…and content!’ He smiled while he watched her get ready for bed.

Kagome looked across the fire at Inuyasha, but just as she caught his eye, he looked away and began to grumble about stupid bitches taking so long to bathe, when they don’t even need to in the first place. Kagome rolled her eyes, and pulled her history book out of her bag. She had read all of about three words when Inuyasha’s voice cut into her thoughts, “Oi! Wench!” Kagome sighed, as she pointedly tried to ignore him. Inuyasha stormed over to her, and kneeled down so that they were face-to-face.

“Hey!” he practically yelled right in her face. Kagome buried her nose further into her book. Inuyasha’s gaze narrowed as he snatched the History book away from her and ran to the other side of the fire. Kagome looked at him in utter shock. ‘How DARE he!’ she thought as she stalked over to him and glared right into his eyes.

“Give it back.” she said, in a barely audible tone, still glaring furiously at the hanyou.

“No.” said Inuyasha, with a slight smirk on his lips, that only served to make Kagome more angry.

“Give…it…BACK!” Kagome growled through her teeth.

“What are ya gonna do about it?” His smirk growing wider, as he saw her getting more angry. ‘Is this really worth it?’ he asked himself, as he looked down at her face. ‘Yup…it’s worth it’.

“Inuyasha…..I’ll say ‘it’…” Kagome said in a threatening tone.

Inuyasha peeked over his shoulder to make sure that both Miroku and Sango were watching their exchange. Then, a slow devilish grin spread over his face. “Would you still say ‘it’ if I told you I liked it?”

Miroku choked on the tea he had been drinking, and started coughing to try to rid his lungs of the liquid. Sango turned beet red and ran off mumbling something about getting more fire wood, and Kagome looked at Inuyasha in wide-eyed shock, as he handed her book back to her and sat down on the ground roaring with laughter.

Kagome tried to meet Miroku’s eyes over the campfire unsuccessfully, then looked back down at the mirthful hanyou. “Inuyasha?” He just looked up at her with a smug grin still on his face, then quickly got up to go find the most comfortable tree to sleep in for the night.
