Inuyasha, and the characters therein, are the property of Rumiko Takahashi.
Miroku was the first to break the silence, “Inuyasha….” But, when Inuyasha turned to look at him, Miroku was shocked at the completely helpless look in the half-demon’s eyes. A look…that no one had ever seen coming from the surly hanyou before. A look, that said that he wanted to go to her, to comfort her, to hold her. A look that held a complete and total sadness, yet at the same time, held absolute truth. Inuyasha looked like he could actually feel Kagome’s hurt. Miroku was so shocked at the depth of feeling pouring from Inuyasha’s very being, that he couldn’t even remember what he was going to say to him. The three friends stood quietly in the shadows of the trees, and watched Kagome cry. Each of them shared in her pain, in their own way, and they all stayed until she cried herself to sleep.
After Sango and Miroku returned to camp, (they had decided that it would be best to stay for the night, because it had gotten too late to finish the trek back to Kaede’s village) Inuyasha slowly approached Kagome’s sleeping form. He just stood there and watched her sleep for a long time, then sat down and pulled her sleeping form into his lap. He felt completely drained, as he held her close, and looked down into her face. He had never felt so many emotions, so quickly, in one day…let alone in his entire life. He was confused, and he didn’t know how to deal with all of the sudden changes to his psyche.
He felt Kagome unconsciously snuggle closer to his chest, and then felt a sudden tug at his heart that he had never felt before, not even with Kikyou. He gently snuggled her back, and fell asleep with Kagome in his arms.

Kagome woke the next morning, feeling drained and confused. She groaned as she snuggled closer to Inuyasha’s chest, without even thinking about what she was doing in his lap. Suddenly, as the realization of where she was hit her, her eyes jerked open, her body stiffened, and she froze. Timidly, she forced her eyes to look up at Inuyasha’s face, without moving her head or her body. She was surprised to discover that he was still asleep. ‘He never sleeps….’ As she gazed up at the hanyou’s sleeping face, she also noticed that he looked completely wiped out. ‘He looks so drawn…and tired….I wonder if he really is sick…’
Kagome tried to untangle herself from his arms, so she could go wash up, and start breakfast. But, the harder she tried to break free, the tighter he held her to him, until finally, she had no choice but to try and wake him. “Inuyasha…” she called softly. Nothin’. No response, what so ever. “Inuyasha…” she tried a little more loudly this time. Still nothing. She gently shook him, and he finally began to stir.
“Mmmmmff”, he groaned and squeezed her more tightly. “Inuyasha.” she said in a slightly exasperated tone. “Mmmmmff”, he grumbled more loudly, and still refused to let her go. “C’mon Inuyasha, what gives?” Kagome complained while she struggled to free herself from his embrace. “You still hurt.” Inuyasha complained as he snuggled his face into her neck, and tightened his arms around her a little more. “Wha…..” Kagome was shocked. ‘I still hurt?? Why would he care? How would he even know?’ Inuyasha looked into her still puffy eyes, and Kagome gasped at what she saw reflected in his own eyes. She was touched. She had never seen Inuyasha display his emotions so openly before. But even more than that….she could see her own pain within him.
Before she could even consider what she was doing, she reached up and gently cupped his cheek in her hand. He leaned into her touch, and whined. It felt like he was trying desperately to apologize without using words, and even stranger that she could actually feel his remorse for her pain. Kagome gazed into his golden eyes with a look of child-like wonder. He allowed her to slowly sit up to look at him more fully. He wined softly to her again, as if pleading for her forgiveness. It was just too much. Too sweet. Kagome leaned forward, and gently pressed her lips against his. She leaned back, to look into his eyes again, and was completely astonished at what she saw there. It was as if they spoke to her very being, and what they said to her was ’I love you.’
Chapter 9 - Changes within
Inuyasha let out a soft whine as he watched Kagome crying from behind a tree. He just knew that she was so angry and embarrassed, because he had caused her to become aroused in front of Koga. ‘Damn wolf. Why did he have to say that. I’m gonna fucking kill him…’ Inuyasha’s thoughts were interrupted by Miroku and Sango, as they quietly came to stand beside him.Miroku was the first to break the silence, “Inuyasha….” But, when Inuyasha turned to look at him, Miroku was shocked at the completely helpless look in the half-demon’s eyes.
