Chapter 23 - Sex talk

Shippo looked uncomfortably at Miroku and Sango, and fidgeted nervously. ‘I have to have a sex talk with grownups?’ He grimaced as he tried to think of a tasteful way to educate the full-grown humans.

“Well…”, he began, “…mating is when a male and a female…um…smell each other, and then…um…they take off their clothes, if they’re wearing any in the first place…and…um…”

“Shippou,”, Miroku cut in, chuckling inwardly at the kits embarrassment over having to tell adults how to ‘mate’. “I am more interested in knowing about the blood bonding.”

Shippou visibly relaxed, “Oh! Well, that’s easy! The male and the female exchange blood after they mate, and then they are bound to each other as mates.”, he finished with a big grin.

Miroku ran his hand through his hair in exasperation, “Yes, Shippou. I knew that much. What I am curious about, is what happens to the couple as a result of the bonding?”

“What do you mean?”, Shippou asked, cocking his head slightly in confusion.

“Do the male and the female change at all as a result of the bonding?”, Miroku asked impatiently.

Shippou thought for a moment, “I guess they probably start to sense each other’s needs…and maybe feel the need to mate more often…Hey! Yeah! Now I remember! My parents used to get this glazed over look in their eyes sometimes, then they would go and rut, and when they came back they would be as good as new…and…”

“And what would happen, if they didn’t rut?”, Miroku interrupted, a look of dread starting to seep into his eyes.

“Um…I’m not totally sure…I remember one time my dad went away with a hunting party and got snowed into a cave for a couple weeks…and my mom got that glazed-over look in her eyes a couple days after he left. She started rambling, and acting all weird and stuff…kind of like she was going crazy or something, and it just kept getting worse until my dad came home, and made her all better…”

Miroku cut him off again, “And, what was your father like when he returned…before he made your mother better?”

“Oh…he was acting pretty much the same…other members of the hunting party had to help him walk all the way back, and they took me to my aunts house until dad finished helping mom.”, Shippo finished, in an unconcerned tone.

Miroku’s face paled with the realization that, because of the bonding, that they now knew for a fact had happened, if Inuyasha and Kagome didn’t mate soon, they would both surely go crazy. ‘So…that’s what Myoga meant when he said all should be well if they didn’t fight it…if that sneaky flea were here right now I would kill him myself.’ He looked at Sango, who now had a panicked expression on her face, having come to the same conclusion as Miroku.

Miroku turned his attention back to the kit, “Is there any way to reverse a blood bond, Shippou?”

“Nope.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yep.”

“But, how do you know…for sure…that there is no way to reverse one?”

“Because the bond doesn’t work unless the male and female truly want it to in their heart, and therefore, it can never be reversed. It’s not just used for breeding, that’s what mating is for, and some youkai do simply mate just to ensure bloodlines continue and to increase their population. Bonding…is more like marriage…once you mix blood you can’t unmix it. They must show their love for each other and mate to reinforce their bond, or they will go crazy and eventually die.”, Shippou replied, looking at Miroku and Sango as if they were the stupidest creatures on the face of the earth for not knowing this, because everybody knows about mating and bonding. ‘Duh!’
