"Rin, I am growing impatient."

Rin knows that voice so well. It's a soft, pretty voice like a fairy prince. Rin loves to hear Lord Sesshoumaru talk!

"Rin's almost done!"

Lord Sesshoumaru collects Rin from the stream and drops a clean cloth on Rin's head. Rin dries off like he tells Rin to, because it makes him happy. Lord Sesshoumaru's hair is also wet. He took his bath before Rin. The water smells like roses, just like he does. Rin thinks he uses something with roses in it to clean his hair.

"Lord Sesshoumaru, can Rin brush your hair today?" Rin asks hopefully.

He tilts his head and considers it. Rin sees his gold eyes when Rin gets finished drying off.

Without talking, Lord Sesshoumaru sits down on a nearby log and takes his silver comb out of his sash. It's a pretty comb with diamond flowers on the handle and Rin can see Rin's reflection in it. Yay! That means yes!

Rin scampers over for the comb. Rin stands on Rin's toes and pulls the comb through Lord Sesshoumaru's pretty long hair. It always reminds Rin of a waterfall. Rin thinks it feels like fur. Like the big fluffy thing he keeps on his shoulder.

Rin tried to call Lord Sesshoumaru "Fluffy" once, but his eyes turned red. Rin never did it again.

Sometimes Rin thinks things must be hard for Lord Sesshoumaru. He's only got one hand. But Rin helps him tie his sash sometimes and holds up stones so he can sharpen his swords on them. Rin likes to help Lord Sesshoumaru because Rin thinks he's too proud to ask even when he needs it.

One time when Lord Sesshoumaru wasn't looking, Rin put Rin's hand inside one sleeve and tried to do things with one hand. It was hard!

Rin is more careful when Rin gets near Lord Sesshoumaru's pointy ears. They are very sensitive and he doesn't like it when Rin accidentally scratches them with the comb. So Rin is very careful and always finishes a pass of the comb with a pass of the hand. It's the closest Rin ever gets to petting Lord Sesshoumaru. Rin thinks Lord Sesshoumaru likes that though, 'cause he doesn't get up and walk away.

"Lord Sesshoumaru, did your mama ever brush your hair?"

Lord Sesshoumaru turns his head from side to side when Rin finds a tangle. He answers softly, "Only when I was too young to do it myself. She never used a comb."

"Ohhhh!" Rin is very curious now. "Did she do it like Lord Sesshoumaru combs Rin's hair?"

"Something like that." Lord Sesshoumaru answers. He ALWAYS sounds bored.

Rin keeps brushing Lord Sesshoumaru's silver hair. The back is done and now Rin climbs around to fix Lord Sesshoumaru's bangs. He always leans down and closes his eyes for this. Rin likes the moon on his forehead. Rin tried to touch it once, but Lord Sesshoumaru turned his head away. He didn't like that. He never likes it when people try to poke his stripes or his moon.

Rin thinks they make Lord Sesshoumaru's face look pretty.

"Rin," Lord Sesshoumaru tilts his head and looks down at Rin. He has that arch in his eyes he only makes when he smiles inside. He never smiles with anything but his gold eyes. His eyes look like goldenrod flowers. "How can you stand to leave your hair in such disarray?"

Rin giggles up at him, "Rin hasn't had time to fix Rin's hair yet!"

He gets that funny annoyed look on his face. It's a twitch on his lip. "Sit."

Rin sits. Rin always does what Lord Sesshoumaru says.

Lord Sesshoumaru starts combing Rin's hair with his claws. They're long and sometimes they scratch Rin's head a little, but Rin isn't scared of them. Rin thinks it's what it feels like to get petted and it feels nice. Lord Sesshoumaru always takes good care of Rin.

"Turn around."

Rin turns around with both hands resting on Lord Sesshoumaru's knees. Lord Sesshoumaru fixes Rin's bangs and does that funny one fingered twist that pulls Rin's hair through the hair clip. He just twirls it in a circle and Rin's hair pops right through.

Rin wiggles the hair clip to see if it's on good. It always is. "Can Rin ask Lord Sesshoumaru a question?"

Lord Sesshoumaru merely looks at Rin, waiting.

"Why do people get married?"

His eyebrow goes up. "You are too young to know of such things."

Awwwww!

"Rin wants to know now," Rin pleads. "Please tell Rin!"

Rin hears Lord Sesshoumaru take that big breath through his nose. Sometimes he does that when Rin asks funny questions.

"Marriage...is..." Lord Sesshoumaru thinks about it for a long time. Rin thinks he's going to just get up and leave, but he answers and says, "When a woman promises to stay forever with a man she loves."

"Ooh!" This makes Rin very happy! Rin already knows who Rin loves! "Can Rin marry Lord Sesshoumaru when Rin grows up?"

"When you..." Lord Sesshoumaru makes a small noise in his throat. "You are an odd girl, Rin." His gold eyes arch and twinkle. He does that funny smile of his that shows on everything but his mouth. His face gets pink. Then he gets up and walks into the trees with his fist pressed to his mouth.

Rin thinks Lord Sesshoumaru laughed inside that day.
