Chapter 1: What Happened?

It was a pretty breezy morning in the Feudal Era. The trees were swaying and the sun was shining on everything and everyone below. A group of friends that traveled together would usually be packing their things and heading back on a trail, continuing their journey to find an evil Demon named Naraku. The group of friends are an odd bunch. Three of them are humans, nothing alike the other, two of them are full demons and one, a charismatic half demon.

A demon slayer named Sango, a monk named Miroku and a priestess who came from five hundred years in the future named Kagome, are the three very different but inseparable humans. Kirara is a feline youkai. She is the companion of Sango, and she helps the group with many battles throughout their difficult journey. Shippo, another full fledged demon, is a young fox child. Though he looks to resemble a seven year old, he is actually fifty! InuYasha seems to be like the leader of the group. He is the half demon, half human. He also looks to be much younger then his true age. At age two hundred, he only looks to be about seventeen! Though he can be very hot headed and stubborn, he doesn't disappoint. He is very courageous and cares deeply for his friends, whether he admits it or not.

This odd bunch aren't in their usual spot by a fire deep in the forest. They seem to be separated, which is very unlike them. Sango and Miroku are asleep about fifteen feet from their usual spots, which isn't a huge deal. Although if you saw them, you wouldn't believe it. Miroku always tries to put his moves on the demon slayer, which tends to end up with him on his butt and a bright red handprint on his cheek. Right now though, they seem to have fallen asleep in each others arms. They are in the same bedroll together as if it's something they are so used to doing every night. If Sango were to wake up, who knows what she would do. Miroku should be escaping while he still can!

Shippo and Kirara aren't really up to anything out of the ordinary. They are still asleep, curled up together by the fire where the group had initially made camp.

What is really strange though, are the last two of the group of six. Now, everyone seems to know of Kagome and InuYasha's feelings for each other.. Other then the two themselves. The raven haired priestess has been in love with the half dog demon for a very long time now, she has even admitted it to the enemy! She had realized it herself not too long ago. Then when she was kidnapped by Hakudoshi, a demon created from Naraku, she declaired her love out loud just seconds before her rescuer came for her. InuYasha on the other hand, hasn't admitted anything to anyone. He can barely even admit it to himself. Everyone seems to still believe he has some unfinished feelings for another priestess that goes by the name, Kikyo. He doesn't still love her, but he isn't about to correct them. Let them believe whatever they want. That way, they ask less questions about his true feelings for Kagome.

What is odd about these two at the moment, is their location and situation they seemed to have gotten themselves into. They are miles away from their friends, near a secluded hotspring at a completely different end of the forest. This hotspring is amazingly beautiful. Trees circled around the glistening water and flowers blooming at every corner. Pinks, blues, reds, all the colors of the rainbow are shown throughout the grass and glistening off the reflection shown in the water. A small stream could be heard right near this location, so they have not only hot water, but cool water too.

The couple are both asleep, which is another cause for concern for the hanyou. Sure he sleeps, but when in a forest with the raven haired priestess, he likes to stay awake to keep watch over her.

Not only are the two asleep next to the steamy water, they are curled up in each others arms. How could that even have occured? Neither one of them have admitted their true feelings yet, and they are sleeping together as if it's something they have been doing all their lives. If one were to look even closer, they would see that the scene is even more personal then that of cuddling. InuYasha is asleep with his arm around the priestess, but he has no top on. Just his bottom half is covered. His bright red Haori is busy wrapped around Kagome, keeping her warm from the cool breeze from the night before.

If one were to look about fifteen feet away from where the couple is sleeping, they would see odd looking clothes. These clothes only seem odd because they are not from around this era. They come from Kagome's time, five hundred years in the future. Meaning, her clothes being thrown away from where she sleeps, she must be completely bare underneath of the Haori covering her body.

Kagome starts to groan lightly in her sleep. She rolls over and feels something warm. Still half asleep, she cuddles into the warmth. She then lightly opens her eyes and sees the color red. When she looks to her right, she notices the thing keeping her warm was a body. She shoots her entire body up in a sitting position and sees the white hair with small triangle dog ears laying next to her. The red haori that was covering her body, was actually hiding her nakedness. She shakes her head as if to shake the sight from in front of her eyes. There's no way InuYasha is next to her. Right? She must be dreaming .. or hallucinating .. or dead

Kagome quickly comes to her senses and rushes over to her clothes, before the half demon wakes from his comfortable slumber. Once she is dressed, she doesn't know if she should wake him or let him be. What would she even say? She doesn't even remember what had happened last night. How could she not remember? Why was she naked, under InuYasha's Haori and sleeping with him?! What happened between the two of them? These are all the thoughts that keep racing through her mind. She is practically frozen in place, unable to decide her next move.

Kagome notices InuYasha's ear twitch. 'Oh crap.' She had thought to herself. In that moment, she runs from the spot near the hotspring to try and find her way back to camp. Too bad they aren't even close to that spot. She would need to have the speed of a demon .. or a half demon in order to make it back. She soon realized this, and decided to just sit in front of a tree to think until the hanyou came and found her.

..

InuYasha slowly starts to wake up from sleep. His ear twitches when he hears the flow of water nearby. That can't be right. They had made camp a long way from any water. He sniffs the air and can smell it too. When he opens his eyes, his body shoots up from where it layed. He looks around, confused. What happened? Where's Kagome and the others? He rubs his temple trying to get rid of the headache that threatens to worsten. He notices that he is half naked, Haori is thrown next to him. When he looks over by the hotspring, he notices Kagome's big yellow bag. Kagome? She was here. Where could she be? All things that kept plaguing his curious mind.

InuYasha stood up and put his Haori back on as he went to retrieve Kagome's belongings. He smelled the air and came to the conclusion that the young priestess had only just left. As he smells the air some more, his face turns red. His heart starts to race and his mind goes blank. What is that smell? It smells like sweat and lust. But he and Kagome are the only two scents that have been here all night. No other scent lingers. 'That did not happen.' He thought to himself. Sure, he had had dreams of this sort of thing. But that's what they were, dreams. None of them were even close to becoming reality. There is no way Kagome would even have agreed to connect with a hanyou in that way. Right? And if she did, why him? There has to be much better men out there for her.

InuYasha shakes his head of any thoughts and quickly remembers that he needs to get to the priestess. He needs answers and he needs to know why he can't remember the events of last night.

He smells the air in order to track Kagome's scent. He came to the conclusion that she had gone straight in the direction of camp, but he knew she couldn't have made it too far. He grabs her belongings for her and headed in that direction. It took him all of one minute to find her. She was sitting in front of a tree, head between her legs with her knees against her face. She seemed to be upset, even regretful. His ears flattened to his head, hoping beyond hope that he did not cause this deep sadness that seems to radiate off her body.

"K-kagome.." InuYasha was finally able to speak after an awkward minute of silence. When Kagome heard his voice, she completely froze. She didn't want to look up at him. She still doesn't know what exactly happened and she doesn't even know if she wants to find out.

"Kagome." He said again, a little more confidently this time. He crouched down in front of her and ligthly moved her face, in order for her to look up at him. When she does look at him though, she can't help but have tears form within her eyes. She sees his amazingly amber eyes looking into her big brown ones, the eyes that she's loved since she first met them over a year ago. She looks into those eyes and she can't bare the pain of possibly losing them. What if whatever had happened last night causes them to separate? What if he doesn't want to be around her anymore? How can she handle that? Also, if what she feels may have happened, how can she leave now? She doesn't even remember and she doesn't want her last moments with him to be something forgotten.

When he causes her to look at him, she stares into his eyes for only a few seconds before tears threatened to escape. She jerked her head away in order to try and keep her feelings hidden. InuYasha is so terrible with feelings and forming words together. He's getting slightly irritated at the girl for ignoring him. He decides to try again. "Kagome, please look at me. Why are you over here? What's wrong?"

Kagome jerks her head back in order to look at him once more. She doesn't understand what kind of questions those could possibly be. Doesn't he know? Doesn't he realize what could have happened? Does he remember? All questions swarming around and battling each other for answers inside her brain. She doesn't know how she is even going to bring up last night to him, especially because she doesn't even understand the events herself.

Kagome takes a deep breath in and decides she has to speek to him at some point. "Nothing is wrong, InuYasha. I just needed some time to think. That's all." Just because she had to speek to him, didn't mean she had to be completely truthful. She put on a fake smile but that did not get passed him.

InuYasha gave a slight growl and replied. "I know you're lying. So why don't you just speek to me?"

Kagome is completely astounded by that reply. InuYasha is always so ignorant to anything like this. How could he have known she was lying? She seemed to play it off like it was the truth. So why now? 'Great. The one time he actually notices..' She looks away from him again.

InuYasha's eyes widen when she turns her head. It was only slightly noticeable because her hair covered most, but he could see a mark on the space between her shoulder blade and throat. He decided to smell the air near her body, even if he got sat for it. His eyes widened even more when realization hit him. She is mated. Not only that, but to himself. He knew she smelled slightly different, but he was too dazed and confused to realize why. Not only that, he is able to sense her feelings on a deeper level then ever before. He knew she was lying just by senses alone.

InuYasha reached closer to her in order to brush her hair away from her shoulder. He needed a closer look. It was true. A bite mark, perfectly shaped to that of his own teeth. His fangs sunken deep within her skin. What is he going to do now? She is surely going to leave him. There is no way she would want to be here any longer. Especially if she is stuck with a half demon like himself. If she went back to her own time though, she could move on with a human and be happy. He was willing to let that happen if it meant her happiness.

"Kagome.. I .. I'm sorry." That was all he seemed to be able to say.

This surprised Kagome though. InuYasha isn't usually the type to apologize for anything. So why now? What does he have to apologize for? Even if what they did was what she is thinking, they can still get through it and be friends, right? It's not like he .. forced .. her or anything. She is more confused now then she was before. Enough tip toeing around this. She needs to talk it out with him. That's the only way to get over the awkwardness that radiates in the air around them.

She looks him in his amber eyes and notices sadness. Regretfulness. Now she feels more sad then she did before. He regrets being with her. She should have known. He loves another .. Why would he even want to be with someone like her? She isn't from around here and doesn't belong here at all. She is only meant to be here in order to collect the jewel shards and defeat Naraku. Once that mission is complete, she has to go home. What else would be left here for her anyway?

"Wh-why are you sorry?" She definitely showed her worriedness.

This did not go unnoticed by the hanyou. He could sense her emotions much better then before. She's worried about something. That much he knew. What he didn't know though, what was she worried about? Does she know he connected them in the closest way possible? Does she know that she can never be with anyone else in this time? Does she know that she can go back home and live a normal life with a human? And if she doesn't know that last part, then is that why she's so sad and worried? She is worried she can't get back home now. Now his own eyes seem to show that of being worried. He doesn't want her to go, but if that's what she truly wants, he will stand by her. No matter what.

"We have to talk about what happened, Kagome. We need to talk about last night.."

Authors Notes: Thanks for reading the first Chapter to this story! How is it so far? I tend to write as I go so I don't even know why they don't remember. haha. Of course, I did know why they were going to wake up with no memories but I decided not to go that route, and now I'm thinking of a better reasoning. If you read this chapter before the answer is revealed, please comment any ideas you may have! Thanks again for reading my stories!!
