Prologue- The Beginning of a Dead Life

"You never know how much something means to you until it's gone". I finally know what that means now, and …I wish I hadn't. It wasn't all that long ago when it happened. I was 5 and had no worries or fears, or so I thought. However, all of that has changed and it will forever stay that way. I am forced to live a life of everlasting darkness....

"We have to do it tonight my Lord. We may not get another chance." A group of Inu youkai had gathered in a far off cave to discuss matters concerning their Pack.

"I know, tonight will be the night. The night when we can stop worrying over such a small thing that can cause so much harm." The leader of the Pack began to discuss his plans to his fellow pack members when he heard something rustling outside the cave.

"Sesshomaru, what are you doing here?! You disobeyed me!" The leader began to yell at the young Inu youkai. He had caught the boy wondering around the entrance of the cave listening in on their conversation.

"I'm sorry father; I did not intend to disobey you." The silver haired boy bowed his head so his long hair hid his face. "I will leave…" The young pup turned and began to leave the cave.

"I'm sorry my son but you cannot leave just yet." The elder youkai motioned for the boy to come sit with him. "Tell me, what did you hear?"

"I only heard that there is some threat in our pack and that you plan on getting rid of it." Golden eyes looked confused by his father's question. However, Sesshomaru knew better then to question his father's authorities.

The leader looked down at the pup with an almost sorrowful look in his eyes. "I'm sorry my son but I'm afraid even that was too much to hear."

"What should we do now my Lord?" One youkai asked questionably. He wasn't sure if it was a good idea involving the silver haired pup.

"We have no choice but to involve Sesshomaru on our little plan." The youkai leader began. "I know he will not disobey us." The elder youkai turn to the boy and began to tell his son about the matters at hand. And so the little pup was dragged into the middle of a malicious plot.

The day was dying fast and soon night covered feudal Japan. Everything was silent except for the soft giggling of two five and six years old children. Inuyasha was playing with his full youkai blooded younger sister, Aiya. Both were unaware of how the events of that night would change their lives forever.

"Aiya it's gettin' late. We should go home." The silver haired pup took his sister's hand, leading her to the human village.

"Don't worry Inu, nothin' is gunna happen. You don't have to squeeze so hard." Crimson eyes met gold, trying to bring them some comfort.

"I'm sorry Aiya. I just don't wanna take chances." The golden eyes flickered with concern as he hugged the smaller girl.

"Oh Inu..."

"Aiya..." The two stayed linked together until the sound of thunder rang through their furry pointed ears.

"We better hurry or we'll get caught in the storm." Inuyasha took the black haired girl's hand and once again led her to the village.

"Now do you remember what to do?" The elder silver haired youkai questioned the younger one.

"Yes I remember." The young pup tried as hard as he could not to cry. For he knew that would be a cause of great sorrow and pain.

"Very good my son, now go!" The youkai pack watched the young one as he drew closer to the village. The first part of the plan was underway.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The village had gone to rest. Everything was dark and quite. Inuyasha was fast asleep with his sister in his arms. Inuyasha had promised Aiya that he would always protect her and he tried as hard as he could to do so. But that would soon come to a horrific end.

Sesshomaru quietly crept through the village unnoticed. When he reached his desired destination he quickly tried to find a way in. He noticed a window slightly open. As quietly as he could the silver haired boy opened the window and climbed in. The site before his eyes both shocked and disgusted the boy. There was his youkai sister with that damn good-for-nothing hanyou sleeping in each other's arms.

Why she ever liked that hanyou I will never know! Sesshomaru thought disgusted.

The young pup walked over to the two sleeping children. He lightly shook Aiya so he wouldn't wake Inuyasha. The young girl just stirred and snuggled closer to Inuyasha.

"Aiya wake up." The boy shook the girl again, this time a little harder.

"Hmmm, what is it? ... Sess what are you doin' here?" The girl began to open her eyes revealing their crimson color.

"Com' on Aiya, we need to go." The golden eyed boy had a little anger in his voice.

"But …"

"No buts Aiya! Let's go!" The young youkai was trying to control his temper so he would wake the inuhanyou.

"Ok, ok. Don't get so worked up." The young girl slowly got up and walked toward her brother. The silver haired boy grabbed her hand and led her quietly out the sliding door. Once they were out of the village, he led them to a clearing in a forest about a mile or so outside the human village.

"Very good, you may go now." A familiar voice rang through the trees.

As Sesshomaru began to leave the clearing a figure crept out of the shadows. A dagger was in his right hand.

"Father?" Aiya looked closely at the figure. It was definitely her father. "What's goin' on father? Why are we here?" The young youkai's voice was panicked.

"Shh now Aiya, everything will be alright. Just be calm." The elder youkai began to walk towards Aiya while slowly raising his right hand. The black haired girl froze in fear as a strong arm wrapped around her waist. The youkai leader raised his dagger ready to strike.

"Please Daddy, don't hurt me! I didn't do anything! I was good I swear!" Aiya pleaded for her life.

"I'm sorry Aiya but you did do something. You were born!" The elder youkai was about to strike the young youkai girl when she let out an ear piercing scream. The silver haired elder tried to focus but couldn't so he just took a chance and stabbed the girl in the side. This caused her to stop screaming and fall unconscious.

Inuyasha immediately awoke to the sound of screaming. He could tell it was a girl screaming and when he realized Aiya had disappeared he rushed out into the cold dead of night to find her.

"AIYA, AIYA WHERE ARE YOU!?" The inuhanyou began screaming Aiya's name but there was no answer. Inuyasha began to fear the worst. Finally he reached a clearing in the center of the forest. There lying on a rock was Aiya. The moonlight reflected off the pool of crimson liquid next to the girl, making it appear black as ebony.

"Oh no Aiya!" The young silver haired boy rushed to the girl's side. He quickly and carefully scooped her up in his arms and began to run for help.

However, the ground began to quake and crack. Inuyasha tried to jump over the craters but soon they got too big and the two young youkai were trapped. Inuyasha slowly lowered the young girl and to his surprise she began to stir.

"Aiya?" The silver haired boy cradled the girl in his arms.

"Inu, you came to me." The black haired youkai tried to smile but it came out as a small smirk.

"I swore to you that I would always protect you and I will!" The inuhanyou held the girl tighter. Suddenly, it became very hot around them and Inuyasha noticed smoke rising from the craters in the ground. The area surrounding them had become a hell mouth. The earth began to quake again but this time only where Aiya and Inuyasha were. It shook furiously and caused another crack in the earth right between Aiya and Inuyasha. Then it stopped.

"Inu help me!" The girl screamed to the other boy as the ground she was on began to fall down into the fiery hell mouth. Quickly Inuyasha grabbed Aiya's small hand in his own.

"Don't let go Inu! Please don't let go!" The young girl held on to the other's hand for dear life.

"I won't let go Aiya I promise! We'll make it through this together!" As Inuyasha began to pull Aiya up the ground quaked one last time. The earth shook violently and wildly. Inuyasha tried as hard as he could to hold on to Aiya but he has losing his grip.

"INUYASHA!" Aiya called to him as her hand slipped slowly out of his grip. Inuyasha froze in shock, his sister's voice ringing through his ears. Aiya almost never called him Inuyasha, only if she was mad at him or in danger. He watched helplessly as he beloved younger sister fell into the fires of hell.

The sky began to turn black and thunder roared like an angry tiger through the dark shadowy forest. Fork lightning struck hard on the ground below causing some trees to catch on fire. Suddenly, a huge black crystal cross arose from the fiery depths of the underworld. On the cross was Aiya, she hung there unconscious. Her once beautiful white dress she wore was now black and torn. All Inuyasha could do was just sit there and watch his little sister die. He had no way to save her and he knew that. It would slowly kill him from inside. Unknown emotions and familiar ones whirled through his mind, causing him to fall unconscious.

Once he fell into his deep slumber, dark shadows surrounded the crystal cross. Out of the shadows a small white light appeared and floated back down to the flaming underworld. That white light was Aiya's living being, her soul. Now it was gone, along with most of her youkai strength and magic. The threat was gone, and now everything would go back to how it was before. At least for now …..
