Chapter 19
“Excuse me?” Someone touched her arm. “Do you know what the time is?”
The woman, realizing that this was the girl Miko who had drawn blood from the Evil Mistress, quickly checked her watch instead her normal reaction of snorting and leaving without a word. “It's about a quarter past ten.”
“Thank you.” Miko smiled, and the other female quickly hurried away.
How the hell was that innocent child able to… Her thought trailed off as she caught sight of Sadie and Naraku in their little dark corner. Ugh. Utterly disgusting.
She turned to walk back to the other side of the club, but an all-too-familiar pull caused her to stop and put her hand over the place where her heart resided. Correction: where my heart used to reside, she thought bitterly. I wonder what he wants now.
=Kagura.= She jumped, still not used to Naraku's newest ability. =I want you to do something for me.=
She sighed. There was no point arguing. What?
=Keep an eye on the ones that fought Sadie earlier, especially the hanyou. Don't interact; just keep close and listen to their conversation. See if they mention anything about five hundred years ago…or the Shikon jewel. Ow!=
All right. Kagura, accrediting the exclamation of pain to Sadie, headed back to where Miko and Fang were standing. She leaned against the wall a yard or so away, tuning her ears to their conversation while trying to look casual.
“Well?” Miko asked, fiddling with a chain around her neck. Kagura felt something weird about it, but shrugged it off and listened to Fang's reply.
“I don't know…” He looked nervous about something.
“It'll help us blend,” she offered. “Right now everyone just keeps staring at us.”
“Well, damn, we drew blood from their leader, didn't we?”
“Yeah, but still…come on, Inu—uh, Fang, it won't kill you.”
Rolling amber eyes—Kagura thought there was something oddly familiar about him, though she couldn't place her finger on it—he took the girl's hand and led her into the dancing crowd. Kagura covertly followed, making sure to stay hidden as the DJ on the stage changed the song.
(Quick A/n: No, the song is not supposed to describe what's happening, I just picked one at random. `Kay?)
“Blonde-haired baby standing by the road/A pistol in her hand and talking on the phone/Said go to California (go to California)/Go to California (go to California)…Sidewalk gazing diamonds in the sky/Silent movie gods are flashing in your eyes/Said go to California (go to California)/Go to California (go to California)…”
Kagura smashed into someone and disappeared downward, finding herself having to dodge feet while trying to get back up. However, it was in vain; every time she set her hand down someone would step on it, and she felt that her sides were going to be bruised in the morning.
“Get up/Get out/Get inside the outside/Get up/Get out/Get in…Get up/Get out/Get inside the outside/Get up/Get out/Get in.”
She was debating crawling for the edge of the dance floor when someone grabbed the back of her leather corset that her little sister had given her as a joke and set her on her feet. “You all right?” a voice asked.
“Yes, yes, fine—” Kagura had turned around to face her savior, and froze in shock when she saw Fang.
No, not Fang…Inu-Yasha…and there behind him…though cleverly disguised by makeup…Kikyo…
She did something she hadn't done for almost five hundred years.
She fainted.

Sadie jumped up at the feeling of someone within her awareness going through intense shock and then blanking out. Naraku looked up, but not before his wife had disappeared. I hate it when she does that. Oh well. =Kagura.=
There was no answer. She was unconscious for some reason.
He leaned back in his chair. =Sven.=
Yes, sir? The boy's mind was muddled by alcohol, but he answered his master promptly. You just don't disobey Naraku no matter what.
=Find the two that faced my wife earlier tonight. Keep an eye on them.=
Sir, Kagura is with them. He could evidently see them.
=She's out cold.=
There was a pause. Then, Sir, she is waking. And Sadie is there.
Annoyed, Naraku decided that Sven would die after they left the club for trying to weasel out of work. =Very well then. Resume what you were doing.=
He turned his attention back to the wind sorceress. =Kagura. Why were you unconscious?=
Her mind was fuzzy as she awoke. Huh?
=Never mind.= He would interrogate her later.
***
Kagura shook her head, clearing out the last of the cobwebs. What the hell?
“Hey, Wind, are you all right?” She looked up to find Sadie standing there with two other people.
“Yeah.” Those two… Her gaze focused on them. The resemblance is there, but it's not them. This girl seems more lighthearted than Kikyo was, and her eyes are a different color. And Inu-Yasha never looked so…so…happy…
Unbeknownst to her, Inu-Yasha was also feeling a sense of acquaintance. Where have I seen someone like her before? Damn!
Sadie could feel the emotions of the two and found it intriguing. Well, this is strange. It's like Kagura and him have met before—
=Sadie.= She nearly jumped out of her skin at the sound of her husband's voice in her head. Kagome noticed her come up off the ground and raised an eyebrow, but the half-devil just grinned and waved it off.
Whaat? she thought at him, putting up a quick mental defense.
=Why was Kagura unconscious?= he asked.
All I know is that she went through an intense emotional shock right beforehand. Sadie glanced sideways at the hanyou and miko, a theory forming in her head. Uh, Naraku, sweetie, how long did you say you've had Kagura?
=Five hundred years. Why?= He completely missed the irritating nickname.
No reason. I had a thought, but it was wrong. Sadie closed off her mind completely, much to the annoyance of the evil leader.
“Wind, I need to speak to you. Thanks for helping, Fang, Miko. Remember to come by and see me before you leave, okay?” Sadie grabbed Kagura's arm and hauled her away to the bar. She set an indiscernible barrier over them, preventing Naraku from crawling into Kagura's mind or having anyone else overhear.
The closed part of Kagura's mind—thanks to Sadie—also opened, spilling forth information they had shared in other such meetings over the years.
“Why'd you pass out?” Sadie demanded.
“I thought I saw someone from my past, but it turned out to be wrong.”
“How can you be sure?” I don't know how old Inu-Yasha is…damn!
“There were similarities, but it just wasn't them.”
Sadie considered how to broach the subject before shrugging and just diving in. “Did you know an Inu-Yasha in your youth?”
The wind sorceress's eyes widened. “Yes, but how did you know that? Naraku been entertaining you with stories of Kikyo and her bodyguard?”
What? Too many puzzle pieces, too little time to put them all together. “Pardon?”
“Kikyo, his daughter from when he was human? Inu-Yasha Noshiro was her protector.” She glanced out at the dance floor. “That boy, Fang…he looks a lot like him, right down to the ears.”
Note to self: find more background info on Inu-Yasha. “And the girl, Miko.”
Knowing Sadie had seen several paintings of Kikyo, Kagura nodded. “They could be twins. Except Miko's eyes are gray whereas Kikyo's were brown.”
“Yeah, I know.” The half-devil's face contorted in confusion. Naraku…
=Yes?= It was faint, but definitely him.
Sadie panicked, quickly closing the door to the hidden part of Kagura's mind and dispelling the barrier. I was just thinking about you, not calling you.
=Get back over here now.=
She fumed. Ask nicely, asshole.
=Sadie!= Oh, yeah, he was pissed at something. =Now!=
Fine, fine, I'm coming. Leaving Kagura at the bar to wonder why she was up there, Sadie threaded her way through the crowd slowly.
=Sadie, damn it, don't make me come get you!= He could tell she was going human pace, and it was not improving his mood.
Like you could catch me. However, she sped up and soon reached him. “What?!”
Eyes narrowed, he pointed to something across the room.
Sadie followed his gaze and groaned when she saw that one of her personal guards—she thought the name might be Konanoto or something complicated and youkai like that—doing a perfect imitation of Naraku earlier with a girl pinning him down.
=I told you.= His eyebrow twitched. =This cannot be known!=
Nodding, Sadie started walking toward the pre-mortem male. =And take Sven with you. He was being indolent, and I don't want those types around me.=
Without even breaking stride, the half-devil caught the ear of Naraku's guard as she passed him, yanked her own up off the floor, and gestured for the girl portraying her to follow. Two were white as a sheet, and the other was nervous.
She took them to the alley out back, and there proceeded to rip out both men's hearts and burn them to a crisp before turning to the girl. She had collapsed to her knees and was staring at the half-devil with unbridled terror.
Merciless crimson eyes stared down at her. “If I ever catch you in my club again, I will not hesitate to bestow you with the same fate. Now get the fuck out of here before I choose to kill you too.”
Without a word, the girl climbed to her feet and ran off.
Sadie licked a speck of blood off of her mouth, then shot down the alley after the fleeing girl. “Changed my mind,” she hissed in the human's ear, clamping a hand over the girl's mouth and sinking venom fangs deep into her neck. It didn't take long for the human to start convulsing, muffled screams of extreme pain coming from behind the hand until Sadie seized her head and twisted, effectively breaking the insolent girl's neck.
After lighting fire to the corpse, she dropped it and walked back to the rear exit. A youkai stood just inside with a broom and dustpan. Sadie strode past him without a second glance, taking the door into the club and returning to Naraku. He asked no questions; he knew the job had been done and done right.
Some of the youkai could smell the blood on her, but none bothered themselves with it. There were always bad dealings at this club, most of them Naraku's, and Sadie was well-known for being cutthroat.
The half-devil stared at her arm, fingertips to elbow coated in red blood. Not many youkai knew when you had enough power in your arms, it was a simple matter to break into the chest cavity and take out a heart. Messy though.
She idly licked some of it off, enjoying the metallic taste and somehow not surprised when Naraku drew her into his lap and proceeded to `help' her.

A/n: O.o I'm gonna leave it at that, okay? Short chapter, I know, but I'm a little stuck at the moment. Next chapter they should leave the club…finally.
And did anybody notice that Sadie's not a really all that…good? She's sick, twisted—kinda like me—and doesn't object to Naraku as much as she makes everyone else think. >.> <.< I'm not that bad though. I don't kill people. ^_^``` And I don't like Naraku. Myli does, oddly enough, but I doesn't show in the story…plus, she's busy with Fluffy right now…
