Appearances are for later chapters...Rating: Rated MA for explicit language, violence and adult content, including strong sexual content in later chapters, implied rape, attempted rape, and some minor blood and gore. If I missed anything I strongly send out my apologies. (I won't put up that bullshit about being a minor and reading my stories. I started reading explicit fan fictions when I was fourteen and started writing them when I was fifteen, so that would kind of be hypocritical of me. ^_^)

Prologue::

Inuyasha ... you fiend...

This was Sesshomaru's first thought as he looked into the face of his love, her blood staining his pristine white hakama and haori as he held her to his chest. They were to be married in the spring, but now all he looked forward to was his younger brother's blood staining his hands and the ground beneath his lifeless corpse for what he had done to the one thing that he truly lived for. His golden eyes seemed like ice as they stared down; down at her lifeless form. Tears that had been waiting for eternity to be released fell onto her porcelain skin. He cried, yet his face held no emotion, for he would not convey his sadness to any person or thing that could be watching him grieve. His clawed hand stroked her face, a deep regret settling in his heart.

Rin... I should never have left you alone...

----Flashback----

A thin layer of snow blanketed the field, bits of grass poking out of the white crystals here and there. Spring would arrive in only a few short weeks, and the sun was slowly melting away what used to be large drifts of snow. Sesshomaru was standing against a tree next to his prospective mate. They were sitting in a comfortable silence, the girl rubbing her hands together and hiding them in the thick cloth of her multi-layered kimono for warmth. Sesshomaru heard her stomach growl, signaling it to be time for a hunt. He pushed himself off of the tree."Rin."

The young woman with waist-length brown hair kept in an elegant bun, lightly tanned skin, and deep brown eyes looked up at him from her place in front of a warm fire.

"Yes, milord?"

"I am going to the forest to hunt. Stay inside and I will return shortly," Sesshomaru ordered.

She stood with a quick 'yes, milord' and ran into the small hut that they were staying in until they could journey back to the Western Palace. He would have gotten Ah-Un to stay and watch over her, but they had gone on temporary leave to take care of their own, newly-made family of four. Jaken, who was usually in line to watch her no matter the circumstances, had perished in a battle. It was then that Sesshomaru found a person could only be brought back once with his Tenseiga. He checked the surrounding area for any suspicious energy. When he found nothing, he left shortly after and soon entered the forest without a care. He knew that Rin was smart enough to take care of herself, and if anything should happen he would be there to assist her.-------A dark figure chuckled as he watched Sesshomaru leave his woman at the hut. The stupid bastard wasn't even smart enough to take his woman with him to protect her from danger. He leaped out of the tree he had been perched in, silently thanking his dark priestess for teaching him how to mask his aura. As for his scent, he’d had to stay down wind for hours to keep that bastard from sniffing him out. He would have to discuss this matter with the miko when he returned. He walked to the hut calmly, sniffing the air every now and again to make sure that Sesshomaru was still gone, and went to enter the hut.--------Rin sat in the small hut after she built and stoked a fire to keep herself warm, her knees bent underneath her and her hands sitting neatly in her lap. She stared at the small golden band on her left ring finger and smiled, running her thumb over it affectionately.

Sesshomaru had been kind enough to respect her wishes on using human traditions for their betrothal. Sure, he had grumbled about it, but had bought a simple gold band for each of them regardless. After about five minutes of sitting in the dark hut, staring at her hand, she heard the door creak open. She smiled and looked up, "You are back early, my love-"She stopped short when she saw the unknown man standing before her, his light hair and eyes contrasting slightly with his tanned skin. The man said nothing, simply moved toward her. She stood quickly, reaching her hand back to snatch an arrow from her quiver... only to realize that she had left her bow and arrows sitting next to the fire outside.Stupid! She thought as she pulled the pin out of her hair to use as a weapon instead. The man 'tsked' a few times, shaking his head with a dark smile on his face, "Silly girl, you think you can hurt me with that?""I-I'll try..." she said with narrowed eyes, stepping further away from him as he moved closer. "W-who are you?""Awww..." He spoke in mock dismay, "Sesshomaru didn't say anything about me? I guess he forgot he had a little brother."Rin lowered the pin slightly, "B-brother?""Yes, brother. The sad thing is, we aren't very close..." he smirked. "More like enemies, really."It was then that he lunged, attempting to knock Rin down, but she stood firm, stabbing him in the chest with the pin. He growled, pulling back enough to punch the girl in her stomach, effectively knocking her off of her feet. She grunted in pain as she fell to the hard wood floor with a thud. The man jumped on top of her and grabbed her wrist, squeezing until she dropped the pin. Blood dripped on her face as she glared up at him, her breath ragged from the air being knocked out of her.The man chuckled, "Wench, you underestimate me." He moved his hand to roughly grope her breast, Rin struggling all the way, "Now, it's time for me to have some fun!"--------Sesshomaru walked at a slow and leisurely pace as he scented the area for a decent kill. After some time, he spotted a boar off of the path a little ways and proceeded forward quickly so as not to be detected by the beast. As quickly as he had spotted it, the boar's head was severed and it fell with a resonating thud on the forest floor. He hadn't noticed how quiet it had gotten, the woodland creatures and smaller youkai becoming silent as he pulled the beast further off of the path and proceeded to skin it when he heard a blood-curdling scream coming from the direction of the camp. He stopped what he was doing and stood for a moment, not really sure he had heard anything. The smell of blood and something burning quickly entered his sharp nose and he wondered momentarily why he hadn't noticed before... Another scream reached his sensitive ears and he flinched inwardly at the familiarity of the voice.

Rin! He thought as he left the boar where it was and moved with as much speed as he could back to the camp. A tightening sensation he didn't really find comfortable began twisting in his chest, goosebumps ran over his pale skin. What had happened in the short time that he'd been gone? He didn't know, but he was sure that he'd checked for anything suspicious in spirit energy or scent... How could anything have slipped past his keen senses?

He skidded to a stop in the small clearing where the hut stood, and he quickly turned away from the atrocious sight, hoping that what he just saw wasn't real... he turned back around to see that his worst nightmare had become reality...The hut was completely destroyed, bits and pieces scattered and aflame. Rin was laying amongst the rubble, bereft of her elegant multi-layered kimono and lying there in only her under kimono, whimpering and hissing as she tried to move.

"S-Sesshomaru... sama..."

"Rin," he exclaimed as he ran to her, lifting her limp body into his lap as he gently pushed her hair out of her face. The scent of her blood was thick in the air, yet her face was untouched. He began checking her for other wounds and was immediately met with the sight of the words 'demon's whore' scratched deeply across the flesh of her abdomen, as well as deep gashes on both of her wrists. He found blood staining the front of her under kimono just below her lower abdomen and was hit with a sick realization... She'd been robbed of her innocence; a thing that she was saving for their wedding night and mating ceremony. Though he had been courting her for two years, she had not let him take her and mark her as his own. She wanted to wait until they were bound together by spirit energy and blood before she gave herself to him... Had it really taken him that long to get back to camp? Or had this happened right after he'd left? His hand cupped her cheek, running imaginary circles across her cheekbone with the pad of his thumb."I-I'm s-so... sorry..."

He shook his head, "There is no need to apologize. You did nothing wrong... I should have taken you with me so that I could better protect you." He could feel the warmth of her body beginning to dissipate as he gently stroked her cheek. Her lightly tanned skin had turned deathly pale. She'd already lost far too much blood, and was fading fast.

He began thinking of something.... anything he could do to atone for his carelessness. He had failed in protecting the one thing that had ever brought him true happiness.

"I'll bring you back with the Tenseiga, Rin." He went to unsheathe his sword when a pale hand came to rest on his, the blood flowing from her wrist smearing and dripping on his own wrist.

"It won't work, milord," she spoke weakly. "You've done this once before, have you not?"

A young girl on a mud path covered in blood... His eyes clenched shut when he realized she was right, and the knot in his chest twisted painfully.

He bent down and kissed her lips, "I love you, Rin... don't go..."

"And I you..." She whispered as she lifted her hand and placed it on his cheek. She ran her finger along a dark purple stripe and smiled weakly, "Don't worry about me... anymore, koi... I just... want you to b-be... happy, alright?" She was trying her best to talk, but every time she got a few words out she would have to take a deep breath. After a moment, she lifted her other hand slightly and put a crumpled piece of parchment in his hand.

"Rin," his golden eyes narrowed in thought, "who did this to you?"

"I-I might have been... able to s-stop him... if I had my... my arrows, but I misplaced them... g-gomen... ne..." She smiled brilliantly as she spoke, "He said he was your brother....." her smile weakened slightly. "You never told me you had one."

Sesshomaru's eyes went wide with recognition. That little whelp was the one who did this? H-how? He looked down at her again when he noticed she was trying to talk. His eyebrows furrowed when he noticed she wasn't looking at him, but at something right over his shoulder. He glanced in that direction and saw nothing, then turned his attention back to her."D-daddy... is that you?" she smiled, looking at Sesshomaru with tears streaming down her face. "I'm... g-going to see my... family again, love. My daddy came to get me..." She lifted her hand slightly to point, "See? I-isn't that... great...?" His eyes widened once more as her limbs went limp all at once, her head slightly turning to the side as she exhaled her final breath. He stared at her for a moment, not wanting to believe what had just happened. In that moment he grew sickeningly sad and angry at the same time, and he shook her frail, limp body gently, screaming her name frantically. He unsheathed the Tenseiga and swished it through the air above her body.... nothing. Again... Again.... Again! He stared down at her for a reaction and still nothing happened. He fell to his knees before looking at the crumpled parchment in his hand. He slowly uncrumpled it as best as he could, only to find a quickly written and smudged message... written in Rin's blood...

I'm guessing right about now you're thinking I'm a dead man. I gave you fair warning, brother, and you didn't listen. See what happens when you ignore someone who’s serious? All I wanted was my Tetsusaiga, and you just blow me off like it's some kind of game. Let's make it a game, then, big brother. Catch me if you can.-Inuyasha

He growled lightly, crushing the parchment and clenching his fist so hard that his claws pierced his flesh. His eyes glowed a crimson red, tears brimming in his eyes, and he let out a horrible scream that filled the night air and kept every living creature from coming near.

Inuyasha... you will suffer by my hand and die by the blade you covet!!!

----End Flashback----

Sesshomaru looked down at her... completely dumbfounded that a young girl who had done nothing to deserve the fate she'd been brought... could still be so happy just before passing on. She was only sixteen and had already been brought back by his Tenseiga... He couldn't have her back. He couldn't do anything to help her situation except avenge her death. Sesshomaru was sure... Inuyasha would pay with his life for his transgressions, even if he had to search the ends of the earth. He slowly lifted his hand and closed her half-lidded eyes, kissing her softly on her cheek one last time.
