*Sorry for the late chapter you guys! My muse ran away so I had to hunt her down. She never did give in… she said something about me twisting her poetry or whatever…ANYWAY. I stabbed her and found a new muse. I go through those things like tissues! ~Kate
I don't own InuYasha. Man I wish I did. He's SOOOO kawaii!
InuYasha: Will ya stop calling me cute?! I'm MANLY.
Me: Riiiiight. Whatever you say my kawaii hanyou.
InuYasha: Oh, jeez!
Chapter Ten: My House
"A hanyou?" Higurashi-san repeated. "But how?"
"Well, Mama. It's all very simple, as InuYasha relates it to me. Apparently, I have to be near death. Once I'm nearly dead, InuYasha gives me HIS blood. Then, I wake up in the morning as a hanyou."
"I don't know, Kagome-chan. It sounds very dangerous."
"I said it was simple, Mama," she replied. "Not completely safe."
"Well, then, I'm not sure I want you to do that…"
InuYasha squeezed Kagome's hand shaking his head. She got the unspoken message.
"Fine Mama. We won't talk about it right now. As for the marriage, do you give consent?"
"Of course!" Higurashi-san said, relieved to be off the topic of immortality. "I would love nothing more than to have a new son-in-law and a whole bunch of puppy-eared grandchildren."
Kagome launched herself at her mother. "Domo arigato! I'm so happy...! I think I may cry." The women laughed and InuYasha just stood back in wonder.
'This is my life. This is my family. I've finally found somewhere I belong,' the hanyou thought.
~~~~~~~~~Through the well a few hours later~~~~~~~
InuYasha and Kagome cuddled up together next to the fire. Everyone had gone to bed already and it was just the two of them with little Shippo curled up and asleep in Kagome's lap.
After a long discussion, in which InuYasha was instructed not to contribute in by Sota, Kagome and her mother agreed that Miroku should perform the ceremony and that the honeymoon should be in present day Tokyo. Somewhere close to the well, in case there was some sort of an emergency.
The next day, Kagome and InuYasha went back through the well. Kagome held on to her mother and jumped through the well into the feudal era and much to her relief, they both got through. InuYasha grabbed Sota and threw jii-chan over his shoulder and followed his intended. They made it too.
The first task to be completed was to take the group, besides old Kaede who could not travel so far in her old age, to a house no one knew InuYasha had.
"Since when do you own a house?" Kagome questioned him.
"My father left it to me when he died. I'm not supposed to take anyone but friends and family there, but I figure you're all my family now," he told her, smiling at this last.
They arrived at the manor, there was no other appropriate word for the building that stood before them. It was made of stone that had intricate sakura blossoms carved around the doorframe. It was four stories tall and looked rather imposing but enchantingly beautiful at the same time.
"InuYasha," Sango caught his attention, "how is it that no one has touched this place since your father's death?"
"There's a warding set on it. No one save those I allow may even touch the stone. It's activated by blood. Not even Myouga can get in here without me." With that, he walked over to the doorframe, there, at the bottom was a slightly discolored kanji. InuYasha drug his claw down his wrist and pressed the bloody hand against the kanji. There was a small purple shimmer and the door opened.
The inside, if possible, was far more beautiful than the outside. Stone floors and fireplaces graced the entranceway and the ceilings were high and draped with high windows that let in generous amounts of moonlight. As they walked through and InuYasha showed them each to their guestrooms, Kagome noticed that there were sitting rooms on each floor and a fireplace in each room. On the bottom floor, there was an indoor spring.
As InuYasha finally came to his last guest, Higurashi-san, she stopped him before opening the door to her room.
"Inu-kun, forgive a mother's constant worry, but I hope you don't expect Kagome to share your bedroom?"
"No, Higurashi-san, not at all. Would you like to see the chamber I have picked out for her until AFTER the ceremony? Would that make you feel better?"
"Yes, Inu-kun, thanks. I appreciate you taking my concern into thought."
"Of course, Higurahi-san," Inu said graciously. Kagome just sat back and stared. He was being so polite, so considerate, so ELOQUENT. Maybe he should have near death experiences more often. Maybe not. Across the hallway, there was a beautiful door that Kagome had expected to lead into a formal dining or ballroom. According to her future mate, this was to be her room. The best in the house, save his own.
She had a beautiful, canopied four-post bed that looked as if it had been plucked straight from a fairy tale. The entire room was done in blue and silver, her exact favorite colors. Her quilt was down and her sheets were satin. All in an icy blue color. Her canopies and draperies were all silvery-white and her curtains sported a similar color trend to her bed. The walls were dark blue with stars painted on them in constellations. There was a hanging space for her clothes and a set of drawers in cherry wood. What surprised Kagome the most was the fact that across the room, there was a beautiful silver and dark blue tapestry. On it was the kanji for her own name.
"InuYasha, how did you… why… how did you KNOW?" Kagome asked, bewildered.
"The moment I first realized how I felt about you, I knew this day would come. Or at least it would if you accepted me. I ran off that night, I can only assume you thought I went to Kikyo, I gave orders for this to be made and came back a week later to put in this room," he said, lightly fingering the fine fabric.
